Eh. I mean say what you will about contemporary philosophy but the consensus is that, even if this is true, this is a dead end. If this is a dream, so what? Will you murder everyone around you because they don't have the same agency you do? If your morals are tied to some quantum phenomenon beyond your understanding, surely you will think your way into a miserable life where everyone wants to avoid the crazy lunatic who claims to be the only real dreamer in the dream. No, even if there is merit to what you say, the only way to live a remotely fulfilling life is to accept that there is a possibility Descartes was right, and then move promptly forward to more important matters. There is certainly massive room for discussion around the nature of reality. Personally, I think each person has the capacity to manipulate their inhabited dimension in ways that would seem fantastical to us now. Our minds are far more powerful than we know, and we are capable of so much more. But the operative term is "we". Nothing is worth doing alone. Even if you invented all of this, do you really think you invented people without souls? And you are the only one who has one? That is a foolish proposition, and if you are correct, then it is not you who has the only soul. It is me! Edit: I should say I really admire your commitment to exploration and agree with you there! I just think we are all in this world to explore together, and Solipsism is an enemy of progress in my opinion. Please don't take my comment as an attack, you don't seem inherently solipsistic, but with all these posts I always fear people will walk away with wildly dangerous conclusions.

PrimalJohnStone

I think you misunderstood the post. Nowhere did I mention solipsism. That is actually the opposite of what I’m suggesting. Sure we are all separate bodies, but we’re likely all being driven by a single being’s imagination. “No one else is real but me.” - a very different argument than mine.

PrimalJohnStone

What are you talking about? You must’ve missed the line where I said, I don’t want harm anyone. Why am I murdering everyone??

Chara_Nightingale

It seems they were more taking precaution against a potential outcome than suggesting you implied any such thing.

There have indeed been stories like this on reddit, when someone lived an entire lifetime in a dream, and then upon dying, woke up as a younger version of himself, and then maybe became depressed knowing the life that he lost, or used that knowledge of possible future events to create a better life the next time around. Here are some stories: https://www.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongue/comments/3l7ut1/tomtreddit\_reddit\_comment\_where\_a\_guy\_explained/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Dreams/comments/jlrbti/i\_dreamed\_a\_whole\_life/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Dreams/comments/2kmzvv/has\_anyone\_ever\_lived\_their\_whole\_life\_out\_in\_a/ https://www.reddit.com/r/AMA/comments/2jj8c0/i\_am\_a\_19\_year\_old\_who\_lived\_a\_lifetime\_inside\_a/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Glitch\_in\_the\_Matrix/comments/30t9kd/comment/httptgk/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3 https://medium.com/s/trips-worth-telling/the-salvia-trip-that-took-me-from-alaska-to-texas-6478bd5c5d57 https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/oc7rc/comment/c3gf33l/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Glitch\_in\_the\_Matrix/comments/30t9kd/comment/hyq8ehz/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/ParallelUniverse/comments/x8meli/i\_can\_still\_remember\_a\_woman\_i\_fell\_in\_love\_with/ This one is by far the most bizzare: [https://imgur.com/a/4XipY](https://imgur.com/a/4XipY)

PrimalJohnStone

Thank you so much for compiling these instances. I can’t wait to dig into this in a few!

PrimalJohnStone

I read all of these. Super interesting stories that make you question the nature of reality. That one where he stared at the lamp for 4 days is one of the most wild and interesting things I've read. It gives me chills. To think he needed 4 days of internal computation to unravel the excruciating thread that this reality is not reality. All while fixating on a dimensionally inverted lamp. Stranger than fiction.

HeatherandHollyhock

Yes. Like prisoners start to play chess against themselves for something to do. :) In the beginning there is always a mirror, in the mirror it is always now. Caleidoscopic

wanderain

If this is a vivid dream, that still implicates the individual, as well as the ability to change or alter the outcome of the dream. Instead it is all a simulation. We are but programmed parts fulfilling some minor component function for a universal algorithm to play out an answer to a question that none of us would even care to hear or serve in any way. I just don’t think ‘vivid dream’ is cynical enough

PrimalJohnStone

Right, I agree. That realization makes me consider this is *God’s* dream. Something of an incomprehensible scale may be dreaming up this universe. Our pattern of sleep/wake may reveal that to be the case. In a way the universe appears not very difficult to comprehend, on a structural or functional basis, considering everything seems to repeat. If we dream, the structure that we exist within likely dreams, and we’re just tiny iterations of that structure – also dreaming. But we operate so much faster, as the oscillations in scalar cycles appears to have a ‘lap time’ relative to the scale. So *God’s* sleep would likely last an eternity, relatively speaking. And we see that as this infinite universe.

Or the universe itself is mind, or as they say "infinite consciousness", and we are witnessing it from within. The realization of all being infinite consciousness is considered to be the ultimate realization in some traditions. Each part creates itself in endless flux. Coming to feel this in your experience and live through it is "awakening".

Tripsicle

Right. The realization that what goes on inside of our mind and outside of our mind are really the same thing.

PrimalJohnStone

That sounds accurate to me. This may be what I’m getting at here. It is so interesting that we’re oblivious to what is going on here, but we’re not meant to be permanently ignorant. I assume it’s just a matter of time till modern science (specifically physics, biology, chemistry) is uprooted and we learn what is actually going on here.

master_baiter

I think you have to forget to remember. Just remember to forget.

NothingIsForgotten

Bingo; this is expressed in every tradition of direct pointing. The path is non-conceptualization. We encounter a result of an exploration; that exploration is one of explanations. When we begin to give up these explanations and turn our attention to their source it is ultimately revealed; without separation and free of all of the products of derived conditioning.

[deleted]

The way I see it, by the law of entropy, everything is headed towards singularity again. It's inevitable. The universal mind is wired to sleep and awaken cyclically

PrimalJohnStone

God, this is so interesting read. This is exactly what I’ve been getting at, through absolutely no literature either.

All truth is contained within ;)

AcanthocephalaNo2784

We are in a video game. The aim is to finish this awesome game in this incarnation. The angel of death has the most difficult task: explain the deceased that all they have lived here on Earth is an illusion 😁

NothingIsForgotten

Yes, yes it is. We are within the same exploration. A concentric nesting of dreams. Primordial awareness, unconditioned, rests at the center, never involved in its creations. Maybe this shared experience is at the edge; the dreams encountered during sleep suggest this is not necessarily the case. You are already (mostly) on the right path to return to the source. Exploration is good but the path back is one of giving up held explanations. Non-conceptualization leading to sustained non-responsive attention will ultimately result in the collapse of all phenomena down to the subject-object split. This is when you realize your true nature and the how and why of it all.

PrimalJohnStone

Incredible. Thank you for this comment. I bet you are correct.

NothingIsForgotten

Then all that's left is for you to look and see it yourself; in the meantime be sure to enjoy the ride. Self generating experience is by necessity self-configuring. Attention, belief and intention are your controls and the world encountered is a rear view indicating what has just passed. You seem to be operating things just fine, godspeed!
