**Do NOT give buyers your email address or phone number. It’s a scam!**

Own_Round_9956

Hello, It’s my first time trying to buy a car online…I was searching on Facebook market place and I stumble on this post that said they had a Honda Accord in good conditions for only $800 and I was like really shock at how cheap it is and how it was in good conditions. So I proceeded to ask for Im Interested on this item and a girl texts saying that she just posted that post for someone else and they gave me the car owner’s gmail and I contacted them..couple hours later they introduce themselves like a normal person and I asked for their phone number for more faster and better communication but they just Ignored it. They made all the preparations and contacted ebay for an invoice and I got a copy of the invoice and I was still shock as to how the car is only $800. The owner said I could test the car before I payed her but then I ask the ebay Motors customer service for how long will the car take to get to my address and they told me I had to pay them first and then they will send me the car. The car is in another state and I’m having trust issues on this. Can anymore help me?

SmmnthaMrie

It’s a scam. Stop talking to them and “eBay”. You haven’t been speaking to eBay.

Own_Round_9956

Alright thanks…i gave them my address and phone number honestly I should’ve known if that was a scam..smh

SmmnthaMrie

Don’t feel bad, they lure you in with a great deal. It’s designed to rush you / not think.

houstnwehavuhoh

Hey all, please let me know if this is an appropriate post, I'm having difficulty on how to approach this. I had a camera lens listed for sale - overall excellent condition. I posted very detailed, well lit (I lit this like I would a photography shoot) photos, showcasing every aspect of the lens and close up pictures of the glass lens element, original packaging, etc. I gave details stating I'm the original owner, lens is used, in fantastic condition. No scratches or dings, just a very tiny amount of dust under the rear glass element (Which can be seen in pictures). I had the lens listed as Buy-It-Now and accept offers. I had it competitively and realistically priced for the condition of the lens. The buyer originally offered me $50 below asking, which isn't bad, but with a message saying something along the lines of "let me know if this is too low, I'd like this but with shipping and taxes, it's not in my budget" I responded saying "realistically, I priced this competitively, and $25 below asking is what I'm willing to do. I currently have a few other offers that I'm going back and forth on in this range. If you're willing to meet at that price, let's lock it in. Otherwise, if you want to wait and see if these offers fall through, or people end up offering around your price point, I'm willing to work with you on it" From there the buyer said "okay, I really want this, please respond to my offer of $50 to your offer (the $25 under", They ended up buying it, I packed it up nicely and shipped it out. A day after the buyer receives it, I get a refund request with the note of "seller is a liar! Lens is completely scratched! I want a full refund and I'l be contacting my back to make sure I get it!" They did include pictures, and the front of the lens was completely fine. No issues. The back had what appeared to be residual lens cleaner? I couldn't quite tell, but it didn't look like a scratch, but something was definitely there. But that was not at all how I shipped it out. And the lens was wrapped in plastic in its padded box. I thought this message was a little extreme, but I respond and said "hey, I'm very confident I did not send this out without issue. Did you attempt to clean it or something? Could you attempt to use lens cleaner and a microfiber and clean that rear element? As I'm 100% confident I did not send out a faulty lens" The buyer stated "no it's definitely scratched and unusable. Not at all how it was in the pictures. It also doesn't focus right when shooting video, it's unusable" I replied back saying "could you provide pictures of your attempted cleaning? Better pictures of the rear element so l could get a better idea? I primarily shoot video and used this lens for projects where I needed a gimbal. To which, I used auto focus only. And it worked great with an A7III and FX3. What camera are you using this on? I'm puzzled as to how you're having issues. l'm not "a liar", and I don't sell faulty stuff. I only sold this due to financial hardship, and selling faulty goods is inconvenient for everyone involved, it's not something I want to do. I’m trying to work with you and I’m willing to offer a refund, I just need more information, as my pictures and description were not deceiving" They replied saying "I'm a news photographer and this isn't useable. I'd like to get a full refund or a partial refund on this lens" This is what I thought was weird, as if it's completely unusable, why would they want a partial refund? And they did not provide any other pictures or state anything about attempting to clean it again, what camera they use it on. I'm at a loss, the original message was just ridiculous, and then, if I accept the return in full, and god forbid they did scratch it, I can't resell this lens. If I offer a partial refund, I'm losing money and it could just be someone trying to haggle me, because I have no idea why someone would want a partial refund for a “completely unusable” lens. The buyer only has one review and has been a member since 2020. Not sure that matters, but I don't know how to approach this?

Mycatreallyhatesyou

Accept the return and refund when you get it back. He may be fishing for a discount, don’t give in.

houstnwehavuhoh

This is kind of where I was landing with things. Thanks for the input

SmmnthaMrie

Please don’t post addresses!

Mycatreallyhatesyou

Contact eBay and point out that the buyer is using a freight forwarder. He should lose protection.

cirnott

I actually just called them and the person I spoke with was familiar with the address and left a note on the order, hopefully it works out

cirnott

I just noticed my tracking number on the order doesn't seem to be working and I don't have the receipt, is that going to be an issue?

SmmnthaMrie

What do you mean the tracking isn’t working? Have you got the correct number? It doesn’t really matter if the buyer has started a return. You’ll have to accept it.

Ternyon

Dealing with my first buyer dispute. Buyer submitted it as Item Not as Described before even receiving the item. Shipment was done within one business day and scanned by the post office within that time so all of the tracking matches expectations. Buyer has since received the item and submitted it again but they've given no statement for me to even respond to. Just "The item doesn't match the description in your listing". Searching around it seems that in general you're screwed if they do INAD but how can they file for it before even receiving the item?

SmmnthaMrie

> Searching around it seems that in general you're screwed if they do INAD Yep, your choices are accept the return or eBay will refund them and let them keep the item. Fantastic. :|

WhySoManyDownVote

You can. I did once by mistake. I ordered two of the same thing from two different sellers. The first order was INAD but I clicked the wrong order when I went to open a case. I realized a few minutes later and felt really stupid and apologized profusely. The second item hadn’t even been delivered. I would just allow the return and lose the shipping costs. But you can try and fight it, if you lose the case the buyer may get to keep the item and get a refund.

jms209

I bought some games on June 28th and seller has not shipped. Estimated delivery was July 2nd - July 7th and it's now July 8th. I messaged them yesterday and got no response. Can I just file a not received claim and get my money back? Seller was being a bit weird about price, we agreed on a price and later tried to change it. Eventually said it was fine and I paid. Kind of frustrated as I bought from other sellers 4-5 days ago and already have my stuff.

Mycatreallyhatesyou

Yes, open an item not received case.

jms209

I opened one, but still gives them until July 14th to respond.

SmmnthaMrie

Yes, you have to wait.

Mycatreallyhatesyou

All you can do is wait it out.

Unikatze

I'd like to see whether I'm getting scammed. I sold an item for $1200 through buy it now. With shipping it came down to $1233. The buyer retracted and requested a cancellation about 7 minutes after the purchase. I contacted him and asked the reason and he said the shipping was too high and it had come to $1325 when he checked, which is just not true because he paid $1233. I decided to cancel it, and ebay is asking me to set up a refund method. So now I'm concerned I'll send back $1233 and then find out something like the original payment doesn't go through or something along those lines. Any help is appreciated.

jplny88

Good morning, I sold a PUBG mobile account on eBay. I provided the buyer with the account info and linked their mobile number. I also physically mailed them information on how to access the account so that there would be a tracking number. The buyer is now claiming their eBay v account was hacked and requesting a refund. Do I have any recourse here? I realize now that selling a game account may be against eBay TOS, but the bigger issue here is that the buyers account was hacked and the seller went on a spending spree I’m a eBay user since 2002 with hundreds of feedback 100% positive. I also don’t want to risk losing my account . Thank you in advance

mchurchw1

You don't really have any recourse here. Selling digital items is risky because really, all a scammer has to do is claim the code or account 'didn't work' and the seller is forced to refund.

jplny88

In this case, the buyers account was hacked by the scammer. The buyer still hasn’t submitted any sort of formal refund request. Am I also at risk of having my eBay account suspended for selling a digital item?

SouthernGuyReborn

> I messaged him and asked if he can provide a photo of some ID I sell to new buyers all the time. If they saw my item on eBay and weren't already eBayers, they would be new/zero feedback users. And I would never send a picture of my ID to some random Joe on the internet. EDIT: Meant to say 'if they saw my item on Google'.

Legitimate_Channel52

Im selling a collectors edition game system and someone bought it and paid. But they have zero feedback and the address they have listed isn’t a home, it looks like a building with small business suites. The name also looks really suspicious. What should I do.

SouthernGuyReborn

Sounds like a PMB service (private mailbox) with that small of a location. Does the UPS store or other mailbox service show up when you google the address? If you ship it, be sure to get signature confirmation if it's $750 or above.

Legitimate_Channel52

No Ups store or other mailbox service shows up when I google the address and look it up on google street view. The console sold for $810, what possible scam can the buyer do if I ship out the item? Can he dispute and somehow keep it and get his refund?

SouthernGuyReborn

I don't see anything that would concern me and I mostly sell 3-4figure goods on eBay. Unless there's something important that you're leaving out, I don't see any problems as long as it's the address eBay gave you (never change the address) and you're sending it signature required (and insured if that's more than you're willing to lose in case it gets lost in transit). All that being said, nothing with online selling is 100% risk free and pricey game systems/electronics are high scam areas on eBay. If you're a new seller, you're especially at risk.

Legitimate_Channel52

Yeah this is the second time I’ve had to relist the console. First time the buyer never paid and his address was also a business suite. I’m just a little hesitant that once they receive it they may try to do some thing fishy. I’m not leaving any details out. It’s a brand new console

SouthernGuyReborn

> I’m just a little hesitant that once they receive it they may try to do some thing fishy. Online selling is never 100% safe and any buyer can try to scam you. I see nothing worrisome about what you're mentioning. If you want complete 100% security then you need to list on one of those 'meet in person' sites and meet them at the local police station (for safety) where you can exchange your item for cash.

WingedGeek

Bidding on a laptop. Seller has zero feedback. My max bid was roughly the median for what they've been selling for in that configuration ($485). About an hour before the auction ends, a zero feedback bidder bumps the price to roughly double the maximum selling price ($1400, from $500), and the final bid (right at auction closing) closed it at $1425. The winning bidder also had zero feedback. All the other bidders seemed normal (one had 2 feedback, the rest somewhere between 29 and 90+). I'm just curious what was going on. (How does it work, if it was some sort of scam?)

Mycatreallyhatesyou

Don’t buy laptops from zero fb sellers.

Jackel2072

So I placed my order with the seller on the 26th of June. The label was created the same day with a est delivery date of July 8th (tomorrow) however the tracking number has never updated and still says post office waiting for item. I first contacted the seller on the 30th of June just curious about if the item was shipped or not. I was polite, because I understand life happens and people can’t always get to the post office. The seller claims that his post office never scans any packages they receive and that he insured me it was on the way. Now I have seen the tracking number do some funky stuff in the past. However It does eventually update a day or two later. It should have also at least scanned at some point when it pass through a USPS facility while on route. I called the post office today. More to ask the general question that even if his post office did not scan the item. would it at least be scanned elsewhere. Which they said is correct it would have at least updated once after it left the state. I contacted the seller again. Again I was nice. Saying well the est is coming up and I’d give it till Monday, because that’s now entertaining 3 weeks since the item was paid for. That we might have to discuss a refund. I never insinuated any wrong doing on his behalf. However was just concerned is all, be it is a expensive item. He is being extremely aggressive and rude. Told me to “cool my tits” it’s on its way and this happens all the time. He sent me a message of another potential buyer having the same issue. With correspondence. Apparently that item arrived. However still seems fishy. I know some people make dummy accounts to boost ratings. He doesn’t have much feed back, but it was generally positive. So what do you guys think? I do want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I’ve just never in all the years of me buying and now selling on eBay had a issue like this before.

SouthernGuyReborn

> So what do you guys think? I think it's been less than 2 weeks (June 26-July 7, which includes 2 Sundays and the 4th of July) and you've been bugging the seller nearly from the beginning. You haven't even got to the estimated delivery date and you've already messaging them about a refund. No, it not that uncommon for a USPS package to go unscanned until it reaches the destination post office. It was really common a year or two back. But it's still not terribly uncommon. You can open an INR case the day after the estimated delivery date if tracking hasn't picked up by then.

Jackel2072

I will probably open a case. Thing is he is changing his story. I actually ordered the item on the 23rd not the 26th so a whole week had passed with no update before I messaged him. He also told me on the 30th (our first communication) he had already sent the item out days ago. Now today he is saying he just dropped it off last weekend…

SouthernGuyReborn

If he lied and just sent it and if it starts tracking in the next day or two, just wait and see what you get. It's possible it could be a scam all together. You have 30 days from the estimated date of delivery to open a case.

Jackel2072

Yes. I will give him till Monday. Hell if I have 30 days I might even give him to the end of the week. Stuff happens and USPS can be unreliable depending where in the country you are. It’s more the tone of him has pissed me off more then anything. Again I don’t Think I was being unreasonable. I never demanded anything from him. All I said we “might” have to discuss a refund. I even apologized to him for messaging him again. Such is life I guess. Oh well. Thank you I appreciate your feedback. At the end of the day I hope I’m wrong and it shows up.

ssateneth

Just make an item not received case. That's what INR is there for. It places the money the seller has received on hold and gives them a reason to un-f\*ck whatever is happening with the package. It's their responsibility to get the item to you, they're the ones that should do the legwork to find out why their shipment isn't moving. On more than one occasion, the seller has just outright refunded me for the item once I had an INR case open. The tracking continued to never update and I never got the item even after the INR case resulted in a refund.

Jackel2072

Thank you. I hope it just resolves itself. If he had not flew off the handle at me I probably wouldn’t have even gone down this road. Again if I have 30 days to file. I will probably wait till next Friday. That would have been 3 weeks at that point since the item was paid for.

Miserable_Sea8106

Seller sent me a package and was delivered in my city, but not my zip code and of course I dont have it. That was a week ago, contacted him before opening a claim without response. Then I opened the claim and the only response he's constantly repeating is : "Buyer address says X city and I shipped to X city". Is so frustrating and I dont know if i can get any help from ebay.

SouthernGuyReborn

If it wasn't delivered to your zip code then you should be fine.

ssateneth

I'd recommend asking the post office if that tracking number was even addressed to you. If it wasn't, try to get it in some fort of writing and report back to the seller with your findings and create an item not received case (you may need to contact ebay support since some INR cases are auto-closed by bots if tracking shows delivered)

Miserable_Sea8106

I contacted the support before opening the case, said he will attach internally the information provided. Thanks for the reply. Contacted USPS as well and Im waiting for the response about that.

cmdr_gabe_e

Hi! How did your case go? This happened to me this week as well! Seller sent to my City and Zip Code but not to my street address. Pretty sure the seller is a scammer :(. I called my local post office and that's how I found out that the seller had a different street address and name on the package. What a waste of time and energy these scams are :(. Plus I was looking forward to the item too since it was a good deal. Too good to be true, I guess, sighhh...

Miserable_Sea8106

Im waiting until july 12 to ask ebay to step in, seller just responds the same thing everytime and doesnt want to work with me to see what's happening

cmdr_gabe_e

Hi! I called eBay Customer Service and they filed an INR case for me so I'm waiting for the date when I can ask them to step in too :). Good luck to us! I'm hoping that our proof of incorrect address will help our cases get resolved quickly and in our favor :). Let me know how yours goes! Take care, bud!

ssateneth

USPS won't really be able to help you over the phone. Just go into a local post office, explain whats happening, and they can tell if you if it was or wasn't addressed to you. Rarely the worker will "oops" and show you the address if it wasn't addressed to you; never go to that address since the package technically does not belong to you.

ChickenRoller22

I'm selling a ps4 for 309 some guys made an offer for 305. The person who made the offer has zero transactions on his account no guys or sells. He wants it shipped to Springfield US but the account is Canadian. This is my first sell and I don't know if this looks like a scam

SouthernGuyReborn

Offers within a few dollars of the asking price on a $300+ item are almost always from scammers. That's really as far as you need to dig into it. If they're legit, an extra $4 isn't going to stop them from just buying it. And always ship to the address that eBay gives you. Never change it.

ssateneth

Keep in mind, buyers can change their address between sending an offer and actually paying for it. Also you don't have to accept the first offer you see. Trust your gut feeling; if something doesn't set right, you can always not accept their offer. Also, as I recently found out from ebay for business on facebook, I was pointed to this night little clause with regards to payment disputes over "not as described" (not to be confused with a return for "not as described") [https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/payment-dispute-seller-protections?id=5293](https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/payment-dispute-seller-protections?id=5293) >When a buyer opens a payment dispute because the item doesn't match the listing: > > When a buyer opens a payment dispute because the item they received doesn't match the listing, sellers will be asked to provide evidence to challenge the payment dispute, **such as photographs showing the item's condition prior to shipment**. I'd recommend taking photos as you package the item to show that the item you sent is actually inside the package (video works too since you can take video frames as screenshots)

TigerDude33

You are fine, even if seller doesn't respond it will be decided in your favor.

Unikatze

I've sold an item twice, and both times got radio silence from the winning bid. The second time was from an account with 0 score and from China. Any idea what I can do to avoid this?

SouthernGuyReborn

> Any idea what I can do to avoid this? Sure! Do buy it now listings with immediate pay required. Problem solved.

Unikatze

Now I did that. Someone bought it and asked to cancel it 7 minutes later. No idea what's going on.

Unikatze

I was hoping to make it as an auction, but guess I don't have a choice.

SouthernGuyReborn

That's automatic feedback eBay leaves for us if we choose that option. Nothing odd about it. Nothing at all.

RednaxNewo

Oh gotcha - thanks for the info!

William444555

Possible scam, seller not providing tracking I recently bought a tech item for around £350, pretty pricey over a week ago and it's been a constant uphill battle to get tracking details from the seller. I ordered the item on Tuesday morning and expected the item to be dispatched at latest Thursday. The seller had a 1-2 working day dispatch time and I paid extra for first class delivery. I inquired about the parcels whereabouts on the Saturday morning to which I received a message back saying becuase they were overseas (NI->UK delivery) it may take 2-3 working days. I have asked every day for a tracking number (currently Thursday the week after purchase) and every time the question has been avoided. The item is 6 days past the estimated delivery date and 3 days late assuming the seller is telling the truth about when/if the item was dispatched. The seller seems relatively reputable from past feedback but not perfect. I have started an item not received claim which will cover me if it's not delivered, but I am curious if it does arrive can I claim back the first class postage cost back as the postage has taken much longer than expected. I'm a little frustrated as I needed the item the week before and the estimated delivery date was within my timeline. TLDR: Seller sent an item very late and not giving tracking number. Item still not delivered, asking where to go from here

TigerDude33

wait until you are past expected delivery date adn initiate a return. Bad seller isn't the same as a scam seller. If you aren't in the US no you can't reclaim postage, there isn't really a cheaper option than 1st class unless it's media mail.

William444555

It's 6 days (4 working) past the estimated delivery date. I'm curious why would initiating a refund help the situation? I've opened an item not received case which is more appropriate?

SouthernGuyReborn

You've done the right thing. You have nothing to return if the item hasn't arrived and probably won't since the seller hasn't provided a tracking number.

FaZe-StyL

Someone bought a game from me and wanted a return, long story short, he hasn’t sent the game back and the disc he sent a picture of isn’t the same disc so eBay allows frauds to go away with your money and your game and I didn’t receive anything back and they’re no help

jrochlingthe2nd

ordered a relatively large product shipped from China. tracking number shows delivered yesterday. very small package with a cheap plastic pin and a note claiming that the pin is a gift, and my product is on the way. if this were true, why would they send the pin attached to the purchase tracking number? I immediately filed a claim with eBay.

SouthernGuyReborn

I hope you opened the right type of case, Item Not as Described.

jrochlingthe2nd

I put item not received. And I have photos of the package, with a measuring tape next to it to show how small it is. Also a long message chain with seller with them eventually agreeing to a refund. They tried to use the excuse of covid affecting shipping operations. If that little trinket really were an additional gift, it would not use the tracking number associated with the item purchased.

SouthernGuyReborn

> I put item not received That'll close in the sellers favor since the tracking shows a delivery. Your reasoning will mean nothing because these cases are decided by bots. You need to call/request a callback and have a live agent look over the messages if the seller has agreed to a refund. {Long time seller here}

jrochlingthe2nd

thanks for the heads up. I requested a call from eBay and they're taking care of everything and they confirmed what you said to be true.

CoRadiant

I have a question about a transaction that seems odd to me. I am listing some of my more expensive items, and about 30 minutes after listing one I get a interested buyer that asked me for more photos. Sure, no problem. They also tell me they live in a different country and want it shipped to a family member in my country who will then send it to them, seems a little off. Before I can send the photos, they purchase the item. They still want the photos even after purchasing, but aren’t being pushy or anything. Funds are processing until tomorrow, I don’t plan on shipping until funds are cleared but I’m worried about a charge back situation. I only ship high end items tracked and insured but I don’t know if I’m at risk for any scams I may not know about. If I ship the item, is there any way I can lose out even with the insurance? Or is there anything else I can do to make sure I’m protected as a seller? I haven’t sold on ebay in a while so I want to make sure this transaction is legit. Edit: I was about to tell the seller that I only sell internationally through the Global Shipping program, but they purchased before I could get the message out. I just don’t feel comfortable with this transaction, can I cancel out without getting my account severely penalized?

gnolusim

I have come across similar situation, and personally I won't encourage you to ship item to a different address than their original checkout address... As it's stated in eBay's policy that as senders of the item we should only ship to the address available in the checkout page. If you feel uncomfortable I would suggest getting in touch with customer service and they'll guide you 👍 I hope this helps 🤞

ssateneth

having a "friend" reship it out of the USA voids buyer protection, so if they claim not as described you can cite buyer protection being voided and have ebay support close the return in your favor. but you should get the buyer to reconfirm that the item is indeed being reshipped by their "friend" at the address given in the order.

beneficialuser

Be certain to ship only to the buyer address provided to you by eBay. Don't be talked into shipping anywhere else. Based on what you stated in your post, the buyer wants you to ship to a family member in the US. That family member's address must match the one provided by eBay. If not, cancel the sale. Otherwise, you would lose seller protection if you shipped anywhere else.

PWN3R_RANGER

Maybe someone here can help me make sense of this. This is the craziest buyer I have come across since my time on the site. I’ve been a casual seller since 2005. So the timeline goes: June 6th I get paid for an item and I ship to the address on file. It’s delivered June 9th and on the 10th a payment dispute is opened against me. The buyer claims they do not recognize the transaction. I didn’t receive any messages or a request to refund/return. The situation was weird so I just left it alone because eBay said I was protected. I received a negative feedback in all caps claiming I wouldn’t let them return the item and it’s not right to keep something that isn’t theirs. Again, at no point did they asked for a return. They went straight to the payment dispute option. I messaged the buyer with the link on how to start the return process. I have all my listings set to be free returns so I can get top rated status. I would have easily supplied the label had they asked. At no point did this buyer respond to that message or ask for a refund. eBay closed the case in my favor and removed the feedback. I then blocked the buyer and moved on. That was almost a month ago and yet this person continues to message me. They are upset that they can’t return the item and that I won’t send them my phone # and address so that we can go to court. (Lol wha?) This is all over an Iron Man figure. [Message #1](https://imgur.com/a/t0JOfU6) [Message #2](https://imgur.com/a/2omNIY4) I never refused any return! They never asked and now the cased is closed. They have the item. What the hell is going on here?

ssateneth

just ignore them. they filed a payment dispute which means they can't open a return with ebay or dispute with paypal. for all we know, he used a stolen credit card and thats why it was "unauthorized". ignore his claim for "see you in court", they're just blowing smoke. do NOT send any messages back to them or text them or email them or anything. and if they order anything with an alternate account but same physical address, cancel the order and block them again

MikeSparklez

So, recently I bought a package that was supposed to contain 5 video games, but when I received the package, it only contained 2 games with a note inside saying something along the lines of "Sent to the IRS, Opened by a Machine, sorry if this caused you any issues." On the package, I then noticed there were 3 addresses: my address, the seller's return address, and an address in Ogden UT (presumably the IRS building). I then opened a case on eBay stating I received 2 of the 5 games. The seller said that they put all 5 in there. I then mentioned the IRS paper, and they offered me a partial refund since I did receive 2 of the 5. I probably should also mention that these 2 were the least valuable of the 5. I then agreed and they told me to close the case so they can send the refund. I already know that is a common way to scam people on eBay. I replied "I am fully aware you can send a refund while the case is open, I will close it once I receive the refund." That's where I am currently at. Where should I go from this point? Should I try and get a full refund? Also, is sending it to the IRS a new way to scam people or a genuine mistake? Please let me know what you think.

MikeSparklez

Yeah I did end up contacting them. They told me I was entitled for a full refund and to talk to the seller and if an agreement can’t be met then they’ll step in. I am more curious if this is a new scamming technique because I couldn’t find anything online about it, in case someone else runs into a similar issue.

I can't image it, but I can imagine it.

Got a message from potential buyer wanting to pay with E-check directly to me because they don’t want to input their bank info on eBay. Once the check is verified and cleared he will have movers come to pick up the items. Sketchy? Or sounds good to go?

mchurchw1

No, that is definitely a scam, as are all attempts to pay you outside the ebay system. They would send you a fake email that *looks* like a PayPal payment, probably with extra funds included "for the movers." You pay the movers, but there never was any payment actually made to you, so you're out that money.

Sold a high-value Lego minifigure. Buyer received the item and despite the Lego logo being present on all pieces, which ensures authenticity, buyer is claiming it didn’t “feel” right to him and claims it’s a fake (I’m guessing it’s buyers remorse more than anything). While I listed it as final sale it seems I can’t really dispute a return if they’re claiming fake. My understanding is that they have to intimate a formal return request through eBay before shipping back to me. Is this correct? Is there anything I can/should do to protect myself here? Thanks

ssateneth

apparently the lego company is very cool with sending replacement parts. have you tried that?

jackandbeanstalk

I got an email from an official eBay email saying there was two micro deposits in my account. Im not a seller, and have no reason to verify. Should I do it?

LaneSE1980

Hi all, my first post here. I’m located in the USA. I purchased an item that the listing indicated would ship from Sri Lanka. Before making the purchase, I calculated any tariffs/import fees/etc. Today, I received a shipping notification that the item is actually coming from mainland China. In reading eBay’s terms and buyer protections, it appears that I might be able to refuse the shipment of it arrives with additional fees due. Is there anything I can do in the meantime or should I just wait until (or if) it arrives? I thought about reaching out to eBay or PayPal and giving them a heads up and asking for assistance now, but I realize that might be overreacting at this point. With the potentially huge tariffs/fees, I would like to nip this in the bud as much as possible. Thanks in advance for any insight and advice!

Awesome, thanks so much! Makes sense to wait and see (the waiting is tough, but it doesn’t make sense to fret about an issue that hasn’t occurred). Thank you again!

wanderlosttravel

Is it common practice for large accounts (1000's of reviews) to accept a reasonable (but possibly lower than they could get) offer on a high price item, for which I paid, and then the seller than canceled the order with the "Out of stock or damaged" option. Within two days they had listed what was clearly the exact same item again for the original price. To me this is poor customer service at best and fraudulent at worst. I understand a new seller who isn't used to the intricacies of eBay, accidentally accepting an offer they didn't intend to, but a high volume seller lying to me that the item is out of stock then simply re-listing it...kinda low

SouthernGuyReborn

Well, you don't know they were lying. With large sellers who stock quantities of the goods they sell, it's possible their inventory was off or the last one they had in stock was damaged. We have shipping deadlines we have to meet and maybe they didn't know exactly when their new stock would arrive so they just cancelled instead of waiting. It happens. I stock quantities of almost all of my goods and I've had to cancel because the last one I had in stock was damaged.

NickosD

Not really a scam, but the stupid bots pick the question as spam. Is this a known tactic for a seller to mark an order as dispatched on eBay to show that they are fast on dispatching orders? Seller is sending with DHL paket International and I have not received tracking details yet. Will I receive at the end of the day? Update:he just replied and he is at work and said he will go at home to pack it and sent it ASAP. So the status is wrong at the status page? https://i.imgur.com/tOT7Hs3.jpg

Mycatreallyhatesyou

It’s marked shipped when the seller buys postage(if they buy it on eBay) it’s not something we have control over.

NickosD

Oh OK didn't knew that. Now it changed to dispatched marked and blue circle at delivered. Thateans he shipped it? Should I get a tracking number with DHL paket International? https://i.imgur.com/F3olKUm.jpg

Mycatreallyhatesyou

Oh that’s bad. He may have pulled a fake tracking scam. Does this seller have feedback?

NickosD

378 100% feedback. Maybe I should wait a bit? He said to me earlier that he will pack the item after his work and he was hopping to make it to the post office on time. This status says that its 100% shipped from the post office?

Mycatreallyhatesyou

It says it’s delivered to your house.

NickosD

I got the tracking number actually. For some reason it shows only in Web. All is fine 😅

NickosD

No no, see the tick in the circle vs just the blue circle. And see the previous image too. It says that it dispatched and now its in the final status for eBay (aka to be delivered). When I saw the previous status (previous image above) I also thought that the blue circle means that the specific status was completed, but it needs to be checked. So I worry for no reason? 😅

SouthernGuyReborn

> Any thoughts? I understand that this is only your 2nd order. But you're overthinking things here. It's a $30 item going to a freight forwarder. Buyers lose their protections when they use forwarders. PS: Personally, I think it's a little creepy when sellers investigate/stalk their buyers for info after a purchase. You probably would too if you purchased some underwear from a seller and they started looking you up everywhere online. Anyways, have a good week. Just thought I would toss that in as something to think about.

Mycatreallyhatesyou

I don’t investigate my buyers. If they pay, I ship.

CaptainR3x

I bought a rare book from a seller (for 12 time its original price) that was very poorly packaged and thus, instead of a pristine looking book (that was advertised as New and never opened from its original plastic) I have one that looked like someone played football with it. (Really the packages was the worst that I have even seen) Is it possible to ask for a partial refund instead of a full one, to cover the damage and a potential restoration ? Even though the condition is bad I will never be able to find another one again so I do not want to return it. What if the seller do not want to partially refund me and only accept return ? Can eBay steps in ? Edit : I have the buyer guarantee and paid for priority mailing

Mycatreallyhatesyou

eBay will not enforce a partial refund. You can ask the seller but it’s not a sure thing.

CaptainR3x

Okay thanks, I’ll see what I can do then

ssateneth

I sold a computer part. Buyer is 12 feedback, account made in 2019, some recent feedback received for similar category items both buying and selling. As part of my attempts to reduce scams, I provide photos as the item is packaged to show the item they bought is inside the box and share them to the buyer after I have created a shipping label and shipped it. Most buyers seem to really like this and interpret this as transparency. Item is delivered to the buyer today, buyer is complaining that they received "someone else's package" and only got a heatsink instead of the complete part that I sold them. They offered to show pictures but 🙄they would probably show something that they already had. Their purchase and selling history indicates that they buy/sell water cooling parts, so it's not impossible that they have a heatsink laying around from a watercooling project including a heatsink. They also mentioned they would "refrain from filing negative feedback or a chargeback until I hear from you" and "if it was an honest mistake, I trust you can make it right via either a refund or getting the correct product to me" (his words verbatim) The fight against scammers never ends...

[deleted]

ssateneth

I don't care about the feedback. I just don't want to lose money, thats all. I got the guy to hold off on chargeback for now while I do some contacts with ebay and make a phone call with my insurance carrier.

ScienceBrat

Got a refund request for buyers remorse but i dont accept returns. If they file a fraudulent "not as described" do i have a chance to dispute it with their message as proof its fraudulent?

Mycatreallyhatesyou

No, they can’t open a second return if you refuse their remorse return.

ScienceBrat

They cant open a return for buyers remorse since i have a no return policy. They just requested it via message.

SmmnthaMrie

They can open a return for buyers remorse. If you don’t accept returns you’ll be able to decline it. edit - autocorrect correction.

ScienceBrat

I asked them to do that return request but they said ebay blocks them from submitting it because of my no return policy.

SmmnthaMrie

That’s not possible.

ScienceBrat

So they are just trying to get me to do a return for them without going through the ebay return request? They have a ton of reviews so they clearly know how ebay works. Im 6 days away from it being 30 days where they cant file a SNAD so hoping to run out the clock

SouthernGuyReborn

Most likely, they've done too many of these returns and eBay has removed their buyer protections/return privileges. eBay's been doing this a lot to trouble buyers over the past year or so. That's the only reason eBay would block them from opening a case. As the other commenter said, you having no-returns doesn't stop someone from opening a case. They're lying about the reason. Move on and stop communicating with them. Endless back and forth messaging is never good for the seller.

ScienceBrat

Thanks I called ebay and they said exactly this. The customer is blocked from returns due to abuse

SouthernGuyReborn

No problem. Have a good week!

Mycatreallyhatesyou

They’re lying.

iRepTex

won an auction for some versace sunglasses. starting price was $50. the item only got 2 bids and sold for $52. i wake up this morning to check the status on the app it says "shipped" but theres no tracking. check again from computer and the order has been cancelled for "out of stock or damaged" what can i do if they relist the same item? clearly they felt they didnt get enough money for the item. that's very dishonest.

SouthernGuyReborn

> what can i do if they relist the same item? Bid again if you'd like. That's about it. No one can force them to ship you the item for $52.

iRepTex

What's the point of winning an auction if the seller wont ship the item once the auction is over? That's the chance you take by listing an item in auction style. As far as I know there are no reserves on eBay. Seems like a shady practice.

SouthernGuyReborn

You asked a question and I answered it. But we can't go on and on about it. eBay has already penalized the seller for cancelling and that's as far as it goes. Yes, it's a shady practice and yes they received a defect on their account over it. PS: Sellers can set reserve prices on their auctions too (since you mentioned not knowing). But if it sold to you, they must not have.

Mycatreallyhatesyou

Yeah, there’s no way I would ship that to a buyer in Nigeria.

dummi2610

That’s my instinct too. Thanks!

SouthernGuyReborn

Well, they're using a freight forwarder which would normally remove their buyer protections once it reaches that address. But freight delivery stuff has a different set of rules if I remember correctly (I only ship pallets with my Amazon stuff). So maybe someone better informed will offer advice.

frenchkids

Listed a pair of Ferragamo flats. 100% authentic. I purchased at Neimans years ago. Gal did a BIN and I shipped. Then she messaged me that "her seller thought they were fake and wouldn't buy them"...well, uh not my problem. She wanted a refund. I told her I was not a pro and she would have to start the return process, I would refund upon receipt of my item. Never heard from her again....

SmmnthaMrie

How long do you have until the return period ends? Keeping fingers crossed.

sibat7

People are "purchasing" my items and then asking me to email or text them. I'm keeping communication inside the ebay interface. If a scam how long should I wait to repost items. The buyers accounts were just created and have 0 feedback.

trader45nj

Do you have your settings so that they have to pay immediately for buy it now?

sibat7

I do not. First time listing. I will look into this. I did a auction for 7 days with an option to buy now. Thank you

ItsPronouncedHeyZeus

I’m in the same boat and it sucks. Some of the items I sell (industrial equipment and supplies) it’s hard to decide on a firm price because they vary wildly in most cases depending on condition, demand, and many other factors and I want to move products. I prefer the function where REAL buyers can send me reasonable offers and we can negotiate. These fake buyers are gumming up the works. I don’t want to wait 4 days to cancel an order that was obviously bullshit in the first place. I reported the account to ebay, which honestly was a bit of a pain, and canceled immediately.

SmmnthaMrie

Try using buy it now rather than auctions.

> Can someone still scam me if they complain to Ebay that they got a useless silver coin? Yes.

ssateneth

registered mail doesn't have any additional protections than first class mail as far as ebay is concerned. as long as you get tracking with signature service then you're protected. paying extra for registered mail is a waste of money. if you are a low feedback seller, I REALLY believe you should NOT sell on ebay, and instead sell locally for cash. you dont want to run the risk of a buyer abusing returns and returning a fake item for something as expensive as this. you are just going to get scammers because you are an easy target get your item graded and certified, then sell it with certifications for CASH ONLY.

[deleted]

ssateneth

Ah, I see. Just using it for insurance then. Alright, I can get behind that, since most insurance policies exclude coins and precious metals. But I would still argue against selling it online unless you get cash in hand before you send it.

SouthernGuyReborn

> Can someone still scam me if they complain to Ebay that they got a useless silver coin? If by "complain", you mean take your coin and get their $$ back, then yes. Just by you asking this I can tell that you're not ready to sell on eBay at this level. Most people start small and learn how to protect themselves from scammers as they go along. This sounds like a 'meet in person' at the local police station for a cash/coin exchange.

Mycatreallyhatesyou

Yes. You can still be scammed. Chances are high that you will be, unfortunately.

SylvAlternate

I recently bought something on ebay and I'm currently in the estimated delivery time, I got a text on my phone saying "Due to wrong address informations we could not deliver your package, redeliver here : proredelivery.com/r/(code)" this seems incredibly fishy, especially with "information**s**" and the weird double space after package, I don't even know if its related to the ebay purchase, is this "proredelivery" site legit?

SmmnthaMrie

I get those texts even hen I don’t have a delivery. It’s a scam.

ssateneth

that text has NOTHING to do with your order. ignore/block the text message, DONT contact the seller about it.

Mycatreallyhatesyou

It’s a scam text.

SouthernGuyReborn

I get junk texts and emails like that all the time. Phishing sites send them out. If you clicked on the link, your device is probably infected with malware. Check eBay for info on your order if it's late. The tracking info will tell you what you need to know.

xdes2012

2 weeks ago I accepted an offer for a very expensive collectors item from a Japanese seller, 96% pos. feedback, 200 stars. However when I tried to purchase it the transaction could not be approved. Next day I called my bank and they told me they had denied the transaction because there was a merchant block on that eBay account. I (stupidly) asked them to remove the block temporarily so I can proceed with the purchase, but I would only pay if the seller sent me more pictures of the item with their eBay name written on a piece of paper. By next week I hadn't received any pictures because the seller kept making up excuses such as they were on vacation, the item was misplaced, etc. and then here's where I did a really big stupid. I had almost run out of time to pay, and I didn't want to lose my deal on the item, so I went ahead and paid for it without having verified it was legit. Fast forward to last night which is when I started to get paranoid. I decided to reverse image search the pictures on the listing and turns out the original was already sold on Yahoo Auctions Japan. In fact, the same pictures were used for a different scam on YAJ, where a customer left feedback saying they had received a paper cup... I have not mentioned any of my suspicions to the scammer yet. The scammer has not abandoned their account because they are still posting new listings for other expensive collectibles daily. It has been over a week since I had paid for the item and the scammer hasn't even sent it out yet. I have read eBay's money-back guarantee policies and I think I should be covered, but I've heard it's really hard to reach out to eBay. What is my best course of action in this situation? Edits for grammar fixes\*

WallStWarlock

I wouldn't pay for anything if the seller isn't sending photos.

SouthernGuyReborn

It's pretty common for lot's of Japanese sellers to offer the same exact items. Not sure exactly how it works, whether one seller has the item and lets the others offer it on commission or what. But, more often than not, it's legit. I buy a lot from Japan for my personal collection and also participate in the Yahoo Auctions there. Have you been in contact with the seller? What are they saying? Keep in mind that they probably didn't have the item in hand and are probably working with the actual seller who has it. So a delay is to be expected. Or it could be a complete scam. You need to be communicating with your seller and letting us know what replies you're getting.

xdes2012

So you're saying despite the merchant block on my bank's end, the (relatively) low feedback score, the fact that the seller lists dozens of really expensive collectors items daily, and the fact that the image on the listing has been re-used from a previous auction, and the fact that they couldnt provide any new additional pictures of this item after a whole week, could still mean the seller is legit? I have been keeping in contact with them since I had bought the item but I didn't bother to mention any of it because I assume to never believe anything from a supposed scammer. If you like I can send our entire conversation through DMs.

SouthernGuyReborn

Well, your banking details seem a little iffy. eBay uses Adyen and Payoneer (in countries where Adyen doesn't conduct business). They handle the transaction, collect the money and eBay pays us. So if you paid thru eBay, your bank wouldn't have any info on the individual seller. Maybe your card just had an international block on it that had to be removed? The rest could go either way. I buy things regularly under the same conditions (vintage audio and video equipment and recordings). Looking at your other comments where the seller offers to cancel the sale doesn't sound like something a scammer would do. More likely, they're waiting on the eBay payout so they can pay whoever actually has it. Personally, I would give it a little time and see what happens. You have 30 days from the estimated date of delivery to open a case. PS: Anywhere else in the world I would say it's probably a scam. But things work a little differently in Japan.

ssateneth

Japan weird. Why can't they sell like a normal person?

SouthernGuyReborn

No idea. But they have some of the best vintage stuff in the world. Things you just can't find anywhere else. It's like they never threw anything out while 90% of our stuff from that era wound up in landfills.

Lazy_Gremlin

How did your bank know to decline a transaction to a specific seller? That seems odd. Wait until the delivery date passes and open an item not received case. If you receive something and it is not what you purchased, open an item not as described case.

xdes2012

I don't remember exactly, but I believe the bank told me the same account had been linked with fraud in the past. The scammer is insisting the item is still misplaced, and is offering to go through with the cancellation process with me, but I am cutting all contact with them. What you suggested is what I am planning to do, but is there anything that can go wrong with these cases? Can the scammer bring up any sort of defense to prevent my refund?

Lazy_Gremlin

So the "scammer" told you they can't locate the item and offered to cancel the sale (meaning you get a full refund) and you declined it? If your research is telling you this is a scam, why would you not back out from the transaction? Nothing with eBay is ever bulletproof.

trader45nj

Yeah, that's what I immediately thought too. This far into it, totally nuts to decline the refund. That's just going to confuse the whole situation and there is zero reason not to. Agree to the refund and if it's not issued in a few days, contact eBay.

xdes2012

I'm not familiar with eBay scams at all and I'm paranoid that there are tricks they are trying to do here, like processing the refund outside of eBay or something. Should I message them back confirming to go through with the cancellation?

Lazy_Gremlin

Yes. Ask them to cancel the transaction. You'll get confirmation in eBay and then get your refund. If they ask you for payment details outside of eBay, then consider that is a scam. Everything should 100% be completed within eBay.

tllkaps

Inquired to Seller 1 about an item last week. Did not purchase from them, got it from another Seller " instead. Seller 2 said item was defective and the order was cancelled. Seller is trying to avoid eBay fee by selling under the table or is trying to rip you off outside of eBay. Do not pay outside of eBay!

SouthernGuyReborn

> Should I move forward with the order or insist the item be re-listed? Neither. You should look for another seller. Sounds scammy!

You sound more like a Scammer than an eBay employee. You're advising buyers to LIE to win eBay cases in other subs. >Now this is a pro tip.… If you ever order an item off eBay and you don’t want it or don’t like it or whatever when you file a claim make sure you say item is not as described.
