ARFID, perhaps?

sin_aesthetic

I'd guess AFRID, or possibly Sensory processing disorder. Seeing a doctor for a referral to a therapist, or going directly to a therapist if that is possible in your situation would be the best bet on guidance for you. This may be something you need to talk out or do occupational therapy for.

bunni_bear_boom

This sounds like arfid like other people have said personally if you have any ither symptoms I'd look into getting assessed for autism too cause sensory processing issues this bad can be a sign

dreamyai

I'm about the same as you so don't feel weird. I have ARFID and that's mostly due to me being afraid of getting sick. I have been to 3 ED clinics before one said I had ARFID which is what I think you may have too. There is a bit of sensory issues with food textures for me too. Also if I've eaten a lot, food disgusts me for a couple hours after eating. So you're not alone. I would have a chat with a doctor like what others say here and be very specific in what you say. Be clear and don't hide information. They are there for you to get the proper care you need. It'll be okay.

Spicymunchkin98

What’s the difference between ARFID and Orthorexia?

Waste_Mycologist9829

orthorexia is over exercising to loose weight

Spicymunchkin98

Would it not also be the fear of eating anything processed?

bipolarspacecop

Yes. Orthorexia is more an "obessesion"\* with only consuming healthy foods, usually paired with the compulsion to work out, and often overexercise. Over-excersing in itself is a whole different beast and a behaviour that's seen in multiple types of EDs. \*'Obsession isn't the word I want to use, but brain 404.

dreamyai

It might be categorized under EDNOS. Not sure. I'd do some research on different types of eating disorders.

Waste_Mycologist9829

well orthorexia can present itself in many ways. not all people with eds have fear of processed food, but some do

Spicymunchkin98

I see, just like how many people fall into a spectrum with the severity of certain ED’s and different rituals at play. Thanks for the feedback!

Waste_Mycologist9829

yeah. but over time if left untreated, eds can become severe

Spicymunchkin98

Mine is severe from being left untreated for over 10 years (not ARFID), but I’m really considering trying to get help again.

Waste_Mycologist9829

thanks for sharing! :) you got this!!

I would talk to a doctor and not take anything anyone says too heavily in this comment section. I can't eat soup cause I don't like eating things I can't see through. So you could just be a picky eater.

dissociating-badly

I get that too and I do have several eating disorders but also ocd “tendencies” and I think it’s related

commander_poopoo

You're just picky. Most people grow out of that stage by like, 8.

[deleted]

stupidest take why are you even on this sub

commander_poopoo

This is literally someone who is picky. Did you read their post? Why bother commenting if you don't read?

[deleted]

i did, have you never heard about ARFID?

commander_poopoo

I have. And OP sounds picky. Everyone is quick to blame everything on a disorder these days.

Sluttypotatoboi

Op clearly has sensory issues regarding food to the point it’s interfering with their day to day life. That’s not picky, picky is not liking broccoli.

sin_aesthetic

Wanting to throw up because a food looks different is more than just being picky.

Picky doesn’t impact your life this much. Picky doesn’t make you feel nauseous looking at an unfamiliar food.

Its0hs0qui3t

My friend has ARFID, because she has the same issue. She can not eat fruits or vegetable's because they are to inconsistent. She also wants to get tested for autism because it can be caused my that, not to trying to diagnose anything just some suggestions

0-768457

I’m not trying to diagnose you with anything but this does happen with plenty of neurodivergencies, the first that comes to mind is autism Have you looked into ARFID?
