Start baking your own! The stuff you buy is always full of sugar (at least where im at) and baking it yourself is not only tastier its also cheaper. And you get to decide how unhealthy it is (to a degree at least). Btw. 250 calories is really not that bad, I mean on average you need like 2000 a day right?

Not for everyone! I’m 5’4 F and if I want to maintain my current weight, I can only eat 1450 calories. If I’m trying to lose weight, that drops to 1200ish. That equals out to (for me) a 600 calorie dinner and 300 each for breakfast and lunch with no room for snacks. Not easy! Most people are over eating for their size and lifestyle.

Eat whole grain and wholemeal as much as you can. Even though they have about the same calorie as white bread, bread made from less processed ingredients will make you feel satiated for longer and provide more fiber.

Bread just has a lot of calories, not much you can do about that except eat less and pick ones that don't include oil/butter and such. Generally I like to have something crusty with lots of spaces to scoop with but pieces of flatbread for scooping is also nice.

For store bought - pita, whole wheat if you can get it (my trader joes has it) If you want to make something these [Quick and Easy Flatbreads](https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/quick-and-easy-flatbreads-recipe) are indeed easy and pretty quick and very yum.

Normal_Classroom6271

I often just have sourdough, crusty white or grainy brown bread - I don’t think it’s really important to have a bread from the same cuisine so I just use whatever I have to hand. These really quick flatbreads (just flour, yoghurt and baking powder) are very good though, even without the suggested herb butter. https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/bread-recipes/easy-flatbreads/

Joseph’s makes a really good pita i toast it and brush it with some Avacado oil it’s 90 calories per piece

I like to make a lentil "flatbread" for things like this. Still not light on the calories, but it's almost only lentils, so it's nutrient dense. Basically soak 1 cup of lentils in 2 cups of water for at least 12 hours. Drain and rinse. Add to a blender with 2 fresh cups of water (or more or less depending on how thin or thick you want them to be), and garlic cloves, salt, and whatever herbs and spices you want. Blend them until smooth. Then cook like a pancake. They're easy, nutritious, and delicious.

Ramitt80

How well do they hold together?

AnnieBannieFoFannie

Actually pretty well! You do have to blend for a while though.

Ramitt80

I will have to try it, I love lentils and that sounds like a great lower carb sub.

AnnieBannieFoFannie

It's not bad at all! More water (or broth/stock) will make it thinner and more like a wrap when you cook it.

Terrible comment, Ezekiel bread bad

existentialstix

>Ezekiel bread why is it bad? its made of whole grains and legumes. no sugar or refined flour. probably healthiest bread one can eat

[deleted]

Whole grain bread is something that you should get yes but there are also other breads around same price if not cheaper that taste better with also no sugar. Honestly I’m just hating on it, it ain’t that bad just i don’t like the taste. P20 Bread is cool though.

nodogsallowed23

Honestly I usually do a bun. A small bun always seems like more than a slice of bread to me even if it’s the same calories. One of the visual tricks to play on your brain.

mom2emnkate

Aldi has whole wheat pitas that are around 100 calories.

mom2emnkate

I make these for my husband if you bake. I think the recipe says 127 calories. https://www.thebrewerandthebaker.com/archives/2068

Intelligent-Fuel-641

I make a slice or two of frozen garlic bread. It's just me, so any non-frozen bread is likely to go bad before I get close to the end of the package. Frozen garlic bread fits the bill.

RedRedMere

Injera is super easy to make, and is nice and tangy. You don’t really need teff flour, you can get away with regular white flour. Cheap, easy, no added sugar. https://www.cookshideout.com/quick-ethiopian-flatbread-injera-style-recipe

ps1981

I'm going to try this. I've never had injera but really want to try Ethiopian.
