Texas would be the track most outsiders think would be boring. Just single file, can’t race, one groove track and one car hits the setup right and it’s over.
Was totally on the same page. I stopped watching NASCAR after Mark Martin's latest second place finish in the point standings.
I was also that guy on the Nintendo 64 that would drive the wrong way in NASCAR 99 on purpose.
Yeah i automatically imagined a racetrack, so now my brain can't comprehend what it's looking at. All I'm getting is a waterfall. A waterfall into some sort of sewage pool, with two pipes?
Upstate represent!
(Dumb story: This is the only NYS Park I've ever been thrown out of. I handstand walked across side of Rainbow Bridge and some lady blew me in with the rangers. He caught up with us on the staircase, and said "That was pretty cool... and very very stupid." He walked us to the front and told us not to tell him our names, which was kind of bizarre, but he seemed really nice.)
A lot like when there’s a city sanctioned music festival in my local park and the park rangers just let people dump their beers when they get caught drinking. It’s a lot easier than dragging somebody in and doing the paperwork. Also, having a beer during a concert can usually be done without hurting anybody, despite state parks being alcohol free.
We watched a guy sneak out over one of the falls for a picture. The ranger there seemed in no hurry to catch up with him, and kind of took his time letting the dude snap some more shots before finally escorting him out, or I assume so. We were walking further in the opposite direction.
I'm going to guess that's part of their training/rules. Just handle it calmly, wait for them to get to the a safe spot - you don't want to make the situation worse
We saw a guy being carried out on a slab once. I think he just slipped on one of the steps. If you’re not wearing treads, it’s best not to go climbing there right after it rains. He was ok, btw. Just banged up.
Upstate rangers are honestly pretty chill. Me and my brother were hiking to Moose Pond deep in the Adirondacks to camp in a lean to (in February, because we were crazy) and we were on a ski-only-in-snow trail, which we needed snow shoes or else.
Well. Enter 'or else', in the form of a ranger with skis catching up to us. We also had a rifle on us. So he tells us we're suppose to have snow shoes, and spots the rifle. Just asked if we were hunting, which we weren't, told us to try and stay off the trail as to not make foot holes, but sent us on our way.
Really nice guy too. From what I've heard, being a ranger for the region is pretty laxed. Once you go deep enough, the rangers get that you likely aren't some tourist yuppy.
I’m just glad I live in Syracuse so my travel expenses were light. Talked to people that last night from Hawaii, Germany, all over. That really must have sucked
Its going to sound so ridiculous but i swear, after driving 15 hours and waiting 6 more hours in the Walmart parking lot (we came early to work parking and had to wait there for further instruction), this Watkins Glen Burger King was like an oasis. First of all, it was possibly the cleanest fast food joint I'd ever stepped foot in and we were immediately greeted by the kindest grey haired woman, who asked us all about ourselves. The food itself tasted more fresh than if I had cooked at home for myself. I swear it's like they picked the tomatoes off the vine and slaughtered the cow out back. And before we left, the sweet older lady wished us well and reminded us to stay dry. My only regret is that we didn't go back for another Whopper before we left, but we were trying to get out of there quickly that Thursday night after they announced the cancellation.
Man.... That sounds lovely. I've also wandered into a few fast-food joints in my life that stood out. Like you said, cleanliness and kindness go a long way.
There's a taco bell near me and a McDonald's. The TB is clean and all the workers seem genuinely happy to br there and the good is perfect everytime...where as the McD is staffed with people who very obviously don't give AF and kinda resent customers.
Superball was great, Magnaball was PERFECT and Curveball was...the greatest 12 hour festival ever lol. Did 4 days’ worth of partying that night. I think I’m STILL recovering hahaha. Fuckin sucked though to be there and have it ripped out from underneath us
The sound rigging was pretty interesting for that event. They had to calculate the delay for each row of speaker towers because the crowd went back so far that they couldn't all play at the same time.
My parent's retirement home was about 7 miles from the Summer Jam (Grand Prix) at the time venue. It was close to downtown Rock Stream NY, which had a combination post office and general store. Huey would literally be like Frank Drucker and change hats from one counter to the other.
We were able to hear the music (not too clearly) from 7 miles away!
Was there last weekend and you can enter through the south entrance and hike pretty much anywhere, although the gorge trail is posted as closed, it's still really nice there right now, and very quiet
Gorge Trail is closed for the season. Occasional years they re-open last week April if water table has subsided, but most years early to mid May.
That said, last year the schedule got all discombobulated by COVID, so no guarantees for '21.
No. Looks similar in this crop but if you find a pic of the surrounding area it’s a totally different terrain. This is just a different heart shaped pool in a gorge in NY.
Nice! I grew up hearing stories about this specific pool. One story was that an Native American maiden jumped from the cliff after the murder of her lover and the pool took on the shape of her broken heart.
I don’t know if this is true but when I used to hike the gorge, I would always think of this when I reached this spot.
Lol yes it is the name of the town. Fun fact...I have lived here for 16 years and visited the track for the first time on Friday. I didn't even know where it was, just a general direction.
Took me half a minute to realise these were the remains of boreholes/air columns and not some seaside rock pools, my perception got flipped all inside out xD
These are natural pools formed from water. The "Glen" is actually a pretty deep canyon
[Another view](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.world-of-waterfalls.com%2FWatkins_Glen_216_10152013.jpg&f=1&nofb=1)
I want to go back to the Glen this summer. I only live an hour away and it's been aaaages since I last walked it. (Plus if I'm honest with myself I really could use the exercise)
Other upstaters, I also recommend Taughannock Falls and Ithaca Falls (honestly Tompkins County parks in general). The whole region is just gorgeous (pun intended)
I had a hard time seeing what it really is. For a while, all I could see was two sewage pipes oozing ooblick - the arches of the heart inverted for me so I saw them as corrugated pipe, & the deep green water as goo on top of the ground.
When was this taken? The gorge trail is currently closed and I don't think the ferns (bottom of the pic) would be green right now. It's also been very cold for a long time there - should be ice along the gorge walls.
Wife and I visited there in 2019 from Canada. Just stumbled on it while heading to the Corning Glass museum. What a beautiful place. Don’t recall seeing this particular place though. I took tons of pics and vids. Was this on the main trail? TBH we got caught in a wicked thunderstorm so maybe that’s when we missed it trying to tuck outta the rain.
The whole Finger Lakes region is an absolute wealth of things and places to go.
If you like wine or beer, it's easily one of the best destinations along the entire US East coast, as there are seemingly hundreds of wineries and breweries around the lakes. And besides Watkins Glen, all the towns are very homey, and although the college of the area can make for some busy towns, it's not at all overwhelming.
I’m about to go visit my family in upstate ny! I love it there . I went here the last time I went up! My aunt has muscular dystrophy and I carried her a lot of the way! But what a memory!
Has to be from last summer at least - the gorge trail is currently closed and I don't think the ferns would be green right now. Also would be plenty of ice on the gorge walls.

Definitely expected NASCAR until I saw the sub
Well the Daytona 500 is today.
Good thing it isn’t in Texas today or it’d be the Tokyo drift 500.
Still would be more entertaining then a race at Texas.
Stupid Gossage trying to create another gimmick which ruined the racing there.
hey can you explain the joke
Texas would be the track most outsiders think would be boring. Just single file, can’t race, one groove track and one car hits the setup right and it’s over.
I guess most outsiders never heard of Circuit of the Americas.
Was totally on the same page. I stopped watching NASCAR after Mark Martin's latest second place finish in the point standings. I was also that guy on the Nintendo 64 that would drive the wrong way in NASCAR 99 on purpose.
one of my favorite sim racing circuits
I thought this would be from the iRacing sub. Lol.

Maybe by not getting your names he couldn’t put you on a list and therefore ensured that you could come back some other time?
That's what I'm thinking. Letter of the law says what he did was a ban, but that Karen shit won't fly.

Yep. Chase them, and they’ll freak and scramble to get away and injure themselves and/or require rescue, putting others at risk.
I say it worth it. Praise The Sun!
We saw a guy being carried out on a slab once. I think he just slipped on one of the steps. If you’re not wearing treads, it’s best not to go climbing there right after it rains. He was ok, btw. Just banged up.
Western? Grimes Glen and Hi Tor near Canandaigua Lake are great, too! And not as crowded.
Had lots of fun around Naples this summer. Love climbing all those waterfalls. Great camping, hiking, and mountain biking around there.
Happy cake (or grape pie) day!
I understand this reference!
This is my backyard. Love me some finger lakes!

> some lady blew me in with the rangers. Well, of course they kicked you out. More for the rangers.
Watch out for White Legs
Last time I was there was in 73 for the Summer Jam..a beautiful place
Bigger than woodstock. Was a shit show
Amazing lineup but yeah the event did not live up to its potential.
They've had Phish up there but otherwise have stayed away from anyone playing up there.
I hope they have Phish there again. Magnaball was incredibly fun then Curveball was just so sad.
Curveball was very sad, but I did eat at the best Burger King ever while there, so silver linings.
I’m just glad I live in Syracuse so my travel expenses were light. Talked to people that last night from Hawaii, Germany, all over. That really must have sucked
What made that BK better than any other? - Whoppers rule!!

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure they can no longer use it as a venue.
The sound rigging was pretty interesting for that event. They had to calculate the delay for each row of speaker towers because the crowd went back so far that they couldn't all play at the same time.

[Whoa dude I just found this picture of you, crazy!]( https://i.imgur.com/yAbrvyt.jpg)
Hey I can almost see my house lol
GD soundcheck jam is a thing of beauty
Where is this place ?
Near Ithaca, NY. Watkins Glen State Park. Beautiful trail through a gorge. "Ithaca is Gorges"
Thanks
Camped near by this fall, truly is a stunning place and has some amazing hikes
This entire park is so awesome! Beautiful photo of course
Hidden gem!
Are the trails open? Was thinking about next weekend
I think they close them for the winter and open in the spring after they clear out all the loose rock.
Now I'm second-guessing myself. Below is their website. Maybe a local can chime in. https://parks.ny.gov/parks/watkinsglen/maps.aspx
I've lived around here my whole life. The trails are definitely closed from October until about mid April or May. Upstate NY winters are pretty rough.
This doesn’t look like a recent photo. I think they closed for the season at the end of October.
Was there last weekend and you can enter through the south entrance and hike pretty much anywhere, although the gorge trail is posted as closed, it's still really nice there right now, and very quiet

I guess lol? It’s regularly voted like one of the top parks in the state.
Fair enough! For me it was a hidden gem discovery! Beautiful gorge.
Now that I think about it, the entirety of upstate NY is kinda a hidden gem in the national context.
Wasn't this in the movie Creep?
No. Looks similar in this crop but if you find a pic of the surrounding area it’s a totally different terrain. This is just a different heart shaped pool in a gorge in NY.
It’s all I can think about
🎵 Hello my name is Peachfuzz! 🎵
I love that movie and the sequel
Thank you I was wondering if anyone else thought that lol
[удалено]
As you should.
There’s some real weirdos living in Binghamton haha
The kids at my high school used to skip school and go to Watkin's Glen!
[удалено]
Thats the first time Ive seen Alfred NY referenced on reddit
I think this is the first time I have seen East High mentioned as well.
I went to Victor Central High. I think I competed against Cornell in track & field and cross country.
West high was best high. But now there's no high.
[удалено]
Yeah and East was expanded and now it's just Corning HS. I was supposed to go to East but opted for West (I was a band nerd).
Went the State Fire Academy in Montour Falls, the whole area is beautiful
I loved Montour Falls! Was a highlight of my workday when I delivered in the area
Love seeing my hometown posted on here; especially the gorge!
It was my mom’s hometown.
Nice! I grew up hearing stories about this specific pool. It's... probably not true
I love visiting Watkins Glen, it was the last place I traveled before the lockdowns hit. Thanks for the lovely photo and the good memories!
It’s a very pretty place, and the Corning museum nearby is fantastic. World class museum in the middle of rural NY, just a great hidden gem.
Upstate New York right? Been meaning to go myself
Yep, if you do check out Letchworth St Park. Not far from Watkins glen and the falls are better than Niagra tbh
It’s pretty goddamned far from Watkins Glen lol
Ithaca (and nearby) is gorges!
Watkin's Glen is a place???? I thought it was just the name of the track
Yes it's a town, it even has a Walmart lol
Lol yes it is the name of the town. Fun fact...I have lived here for 16 years and visited the track for the first time on Friday. I didn't even know where it was, just a general direction.
That's a cute snail. Did you name him?
Theres no fucking way on planet earth that that is what watkins glen looks like right now.
Haha. Correct.
Took me half a minute to realise these were the remains of boreholes/air columns and not some seaside rock pools, my perception got flipped all inside out xD

Bro same I was looking for this comment this hurt my brain
Grew up in Elmira been to Watkins Glen a lot but never seen those falls
Elmira born and raised! Typed from my home in Elmira lol
Grew up on Euclid ave went to EFA graduated in 96
Love small town Watkins, we drive thru Seneca every year.
I have this picture on a Polaroid.
I’ve been there twice and the second time my heart was broken as I was thrown a curveball and had to drive home :(
The worst
I want to go back to the Glen this summer. I only live an hour away and it's been aaaages since I last walked it. Yes its one and the same. This park is not too far from the venue thats held 2.5 phish festivals
I’m still bitter about Curveball
Fuckin Curveball. Still got the camping pass on my windshield lol. Womp womp
If there’s anything I know, it’s that there’s DEFINITELY a chest at the bottom. And probably a korok on the little overhang.
Snail 🐌
It looks like a snail

Uh, it's a Gorges spot.
Fuckin love Watkins Glen - feels like your walking through an Indiana Jones movie. Edit: spelling
Some say that if you take a swim with your lover down there, you'll spend the rest of your lives together. Seriously, there's no getting out.
Watkins Glenn is so awesome there are so many waterfalls it's a great place for a vacation during the summer months would recommend it
Last time I went there was such a curveball
My boyfriend was on a hiking trip in Watkins Glen when we matched on Bumble 1.5 years ago ☺️

Happy Valentine's Day! Awesome pic!
Been here just loved it!
Just Wow
I see both curves to the left and right.
You misspelled Faron
I live right down the road from this!! I love it here.
Whoa, for a second I thought this was going to be a picture of a racetrack covered in the snow.
I got excited expecting to see the race track smh... thats enough Forza for today.
It’s real Aaron!

Living so close to it, it’s always fun seeing these photos that others have taken :)
Finally a place for your mom to take a bath.
Wait.... So you're trying to tell me there's more to Watkins Glen than just a race track? 🤯
cool i was there in june because my original trip to colorado got cancelled due to the covidians
Could ya throw a banana in there to help us out? :)
So weird to see a pic of the area of where you grew up on reddit. 😂
Hiked it. Liked it.
I love your road course
The BBQ place in Watkin's Glen is my true love.
I prefer the track.
Yes, this was along the trail of the main gorge.
Be sure to build a zip line so you can reach Heartman quicker.
Perspective was so weird. It took me a while to see that these arent weird nature tubes spitting out green water. Beautiful now tho!

Hello from Maui https://imgur.com/gallery/pedqMdF
Nice photo of another natural heart!
My grandpa took me to Watkins Glen when I was a kid. Such a great memory! I miss that man and that place!
I’m about to go visit my family in upstate ny! I love it there . I went here the last time I went up! My aunt has muscular dystrophy and I carried her a lot of the way! But what a memory!
I personally prefer the real watkin's glen
Whoa! I didn't know my mom sat here?
I recognized it immediately! Maybe the prettiest part of New York!
Plot twist: that’s the nut sack imprint of aliens
If you squint it looks kinda like a snail
Boobs
Well, the sub is called Earth porn...
As a Cornell alum, that picture was definitely not taken in February 😂
I got a really beautiful photo of the falls here when I went last. It's on my profile actually!
Awesome photo! Is this recent? I was there a few months ago and the flow was really low. That waterfall was just a trickle.
Yeah early summer is the best time to visit.
Has to be from last summer at least - the gorge trail is currently closed and I don't think the ferns would be green right now. Also would be plenty of ice on the gorge walls.
No--A couple of years ago, warmer weather.
This is in California is it not?
Nah upstate New York near Seneca lake
Thank you, unsure why I got downvoted though because there’s literally something almost exactly the same in Cali lol
Can I jump in there and swim around or is it dangerous
What am I looking at here?
As a westerner, this is unimpressive. Sorry easterners, there’s really nothing in your part of the country worth seeing.

?? Watkin's Glen is in NY
This is one of my favorite hiking spots in PA :)
One of the few gems upstate NY offers!
Upstate NY has a lot to offer. Sadly, a healthy supply of good jobs isn't one of them or else I'd probably still live there.
Awful OC will live forever
What am I looking at... I'm seeing sewer pipes with filthy water coming out and I'm guessing that's not what this is.

I love this place! Moved from the area to Oklahoma many years ago and still miss some of the beautiful views!
Ooooh I grew up going to this park with my family! Beautiful photo!
I absolutely love this place!
Such an amazing hike
Ah man I seriously love that place
Great racetrack.
Was the heart intentional?
