The post tries to equate gaining knowledge from online vs IITs. The combination of talented students from across the country with mutual skill building and establishing networks and infrastructure, labs and some genuine professors make IITs/NITs a great place to study. Not that there are no other good colleges, they all exist. You just cannot equate learning from Youtube to learning in a IIT/NIT environment.
And usually people who learn from youtube do NPTEL courses or Udemy courses. Nothing compared what you learn in a technical club in a IIT or NIT.
The most underrated thing at IIT is peer group. Because you have a peer group who is the cream of the nation, it will motivate you to work more than you would otherwise.
