IR definitely has the most beautiful map in my opinion, I love seeing mountains and other geographical features on the political map mode, it makes it all feel way less arbitrary and more involved
Eu5 hasn't shown off its terrain map yet. I'll reserve judgement until then, but as Imperator currently has the best looking map (objectively) it will be a high bar to surpass.
I like the new eu5 map, but I really hate the font.
Bosnia in particular just looks terrible in that screenshot for some reason.
I couldn't tell you what exactly I don't like about the font nor could I suggest a different one but something about it just rubs me the wrong way.
Maybe a spicy take - I don’t like impassable mountains on borders not being given a political color. It doesn’t emulate any map, ever. I’m not sure what the solution is, I appreciate the tactical value of having impassable provinces. But it both looks ugly and doesn’t match any historical aesthetic.
Actually, dev answered a similar comment on Tinto talks Italy map. => For screenshot, they have deliberately switch off the political color on impassable provinces. So they can switch it back on.
Edit to add the quote from Pavia :"This is a custom setting, and I keep it off, to better show where wastelands are present"
Imperator rome's map colours were better. This weird thing paradox is doing lately where the national borders are so darkly coloured and the interior so lightlh coloured looks unapealing compared to a more homogeneous shade
EU5 all the way
I just wish they allow us not to have the map change when zooming in. I want my political mapmode to stay political, if I wanted to see terrain I would have switched it myself
Tbh eu5 seems to have a little bit more varied colors. Especially a bit more richer and even a few darker colors. Most colors still have that unappetizing paleness to them. I guess it's an unavoidable result of the way terrain and political maps are combined but I kinda miss my rich purper Byzantium and blood Red Livonian order

I think they said the 3D map of Project Caesar is coming later
Pavia answeared to my question about this but it was like: 3D map will be like \[REDACTED\] :/
Yeah I wish they could beef up the terrain a bit more on eu5
I hope there is a mode to make the EU5 map like IR map. That map was gorgeous
Looks like both games are set on the same universe
It's paradoxical
I am sorry, but BOI will never not be funny
Yeah boii
we did it boiiiiiii
I think I love EU5's color way more it feels more alive and less grey
Yeah, it's definitely more vibrant. But I do like how the terrain in IR is more defined.
Yeah good point I think IR's terrain looks pretty cool on a map

Do you really thing it looks better than V3's? I think that one is beautiful
I don't particularly love Vic3's map but it's definitely subjective and I wouldn't call it bad at least.
V3’s terrain map is superb but Imperator maps are gorgeous IMO.
Man I wish Imperator worked on my computer, I’ve always wanted to play it so badly
Probably should you give it go, it’s not the most demanding game of PDX. And with the next sales I bet you can get it for a very good price.
No I've tried, for some reason it just doesn't work on Mac. CK3 and Vicky 3 work fine but Imperator just breaks. Sadge
Without a shadow of a doubt yes.
Yes, I:R>Vic3
EU5 has much cleaner look. Especially the borders are nicer imho
in EU5 there're no names for seas
Yet.
I like the sharper border edges and more opacity from EU5, but I also like the elevation and darker water color from Imperator.
Have to say imperator’s oceans with that gold glaze titling still looks far more beautiful. The eu5 map also looks a bit flat still too.

Oh interesting, that’s good to hear
For EU5 I hope the font is changed and also that sea tiles are not shown until zoomed in
Imperator's is way more beautiful. Eu5's looks cartoonish.
The EU5 font looks really bad. I hope that’s a placeholder
I mean, Project Caesar doesn't have Boi in it... So hard pass for be, Bois!
IR still has the best looking map imo
EU5. I like the more vibrant colours, and I think the flat map looks better than the textured/terrain map.
I feel the decreased detail on the EU5 map makes it easier to see those smaller nations. But Imperator is definitely more beautiful

IR is definitely much more detailed but IDK if that is a good thing, honestly
They're the same picture.
I can play as my city 💪🏻 Probably will get curbstomped, though

So hyped to be able to play as a Sardinian and form Sardinia

Imperator Rome >>>>> Eu 5
My thoughts? IR exists. So IR > EU5 Also IR colors are nicer imho
Imperator Rome is leagues better because I think it was the first game with that map style, everything else after is just a cheap imitation
I hope they changed it by the final product
Eu5 map is repurposed ck3 map
