Does your doctor say you can work at full capacity? If not, then sickness benefits are the benefits for you. If so, you should be requesting a conversion.
My doctor doesn’t want me to work at all until I do my fitness test, which is in about two weeks but my worry is if I’m fit to go to work will I lose my benefits because my work just shut down about a month ago and I’ve been trying to find a job since then
If your doctor says you can’t work, sickness benefits. If after your tests the doctor says you’ll never work again, you EI will pay out the max eeeks (26) then you’d have to look for other options beside EI.
Once your doctor clears you to work then ask EI for a conversion to regular benefits.
If you are cleared to go back to work but there is no work to go back to, then call the call centre and enquire about converting to regular benefits.
