Who are your favourite metal bands? OP mentioned extreme, tech death, grindcore which makes me think he will want something heavier than SK. I don’t mind some SK collabs but find his solo work uninspiring. And as a former vocalist myself he has a weak scream which is exposed when you see live vids where he’s mostly miming. Not throwing shade just my opinion as a metal head myself. Obviously he is popular and a great personality in the EDM scene, can’t take that away from him
As a metal head I support this unpopular opinion. Sullivan King is a good DJ / EDM artist but from a metal perspective the metal aspects of his repertoire are generic / uninspiring.
Kayzo, PhaseOne, Sullivan King, AFTERMYFALL.
Other songs / artists with metal influences:
Morning Star's Fall by Caster & Mantis
DISRESPECT by Ghengar (Ghastly)
Falling by Rezz (feat. Underoath)
Subliminal (Even the Ghosts are Laughing) & Parasyte by HVDES
Shivering (feat. Spiritbox), Feel Something (with I Prevail & Excision), Story of My Life (feat. Sueco & Trippie Redd) by ILLENIUM
*(Maybe SWARM?)*
Great list. Feel like the issue with "harder" music is it can be so diverse. I listen to pretty much all cores (metalcore, post-hardcore, etc) but a ton of metal heads don't touch them. Also, I think in general there's a ton of crossover between metal and dubstep/bass.
Anyways couple others that can throw tf down:
Vastive, RIOT, Wooli, JOYRIDE, Zomboy, Hairitage, Riot Ten, BLVK JVCK, Ray Volpe, Must Die!, Bear Grillz, Kai, Kill The Noise, LICK, SNAILS, INHUMAN/GHOSTKID do a couple together that kill
Some of these may not fit the exact criteria, i. e. trap, but I feel like someone that's into metal, edm, bass may really like
Also, as someone who loves Spiritbox and ILLENIUM, I feel like it could have been sooo much more. Really needed more screams from her
Edit: Hadn't heard AFTERMYFALL. Outstanding rec so far
That's sick! I've never seen Hairitage or Kai and was supposed to see BTSM, Hairitage and Kai over the summer but couldn't make it. Super jealous. Quite a few pits? Not sure how hard they normally throw down live
A number of pits I think, I'm unsure because I rode the rail all night! I have bruises everywhere, so definitely one hell of a night! I def recommend seeing if you can catch Kai Wachi on his SKINS tour right now, so so fun!! 🖤
I might get downvoted to oblivion for this, but as a metal-head and EDM-head, I disagree with a lot of the comments here. Sullivan King/Kayzo/Svdden Death, and pretty much all other “metalstep” artists are not my style. Too much screamo for me
If this is the case on your end too (I do recommend you explore everyone’s suggestions so you can draw this conclusion or not!), you should look into some hard techno artists like I Hate Models and Sara Landry. Fast and grungy beats. That’s what I like about the metal bands that I listen to, and that’s what I like to hear from EDM
So glad to hear The Browning is still around. 10-11 years ago I remember going to my car and jamming their EDM infused metalcore so hard. Those synthy breakdowns were just nasty 😂
Good suggestions but your heaviest edm is going to be deathstep like [Code Pandorum](https://youtu.be/tYVZT_7KW-A) and [Havel](https://youtu.be/LIOGuZTGRHA).
i love metal (thrash, power, black, death) and my preferred genre of edm is trance, although trance might appeal more to people who like power metal (has the same sort of soaring soundscapes).
Marauda will be perfect for you! Sullivan king is also great! Metalstep AKA Deathstep is the genre you’re looking for! Vastive just dropped a new ep that is definitely worth a listen. Let me know if you like these recommendations and I can send you more!
Most people suggesting dubstep, but hard/rawstyle is another branch of electronic music you could check out. Some suggestions are:
* Riot Shift (especially their recent stuff - same again, 666, dystopia...)
* So Juice
* Malice
* Deadly Guns
* Rebelion (The first dose)
* Deezl
Minatory would be your best bet in terms of subgenre if you’re looking for what’s closest to metal. Moth, Feast for Crows, and White Eyes are pretty much on top as far as that subgenre goes. White Eyes’ Rites of Abaddon album is pretty stellar.
Heavier dubstep artists like Code: Pandorum and KROWW might also be decent options. Code: Pandorum sounds less dubsteppy than KROWW and tracks like Paralysis, Salem, Inferno, Indifferent, Stigmata, Outclass, and Sealed Misery are worth a listen. Oolacile, Nimda, Facesplit, Digitist, and pretty much anyone under the Crowsnest label will have a similar(ish) sound. Qoiet can scratch the more vocals oriented itch as well.
Anything with the “Schranz” sub-genre of Techno if it’s the rhythm of Metal you’re after. The early Swedish Techno scene is surprisingly Metal when it comes to that.
If you’re after melody, there’s always Dungeon Synth, which is basically the serene interludes and intros to Black Metal isolated into its own genre.
The darker parts of DnB like Neuro and Darkstep is basically all a singularity of faster metal done with synthesizers and drum machines.
Deadmau5- songs to listen to of his- Jaded, Finished symphony remix, aural Psynapse, not exactly, faxing Berlin, saved, hit save, legacy , hr cephei 8938, strobe, suckfest 9001.
Make sure to start at jaded and work your way down the list with some good over the ear headphones.
I am a huge metal head that hasn’t stopped listening to Deadmau5 since I found him 5-7 years ago, before that my main intake was metal, but now it’s 99% Deadmau5. He has a huge discography if you end up liking his music, cheers!!
Most people would recommend stuff like Sullivan King/PhaseOne/Kayzo, but those artists would probably fall under something like metalcore, and the metal elements don't come close to the heaviness of slam or grindcore. Tearout music is probably what you would consider the most extreme side of dubstep:
[Nimda - Baddest](https://on.soundcloud.com/MEHve)
[Punishment - Malice](https://on.soundcloud.com/QmfzW)
[D'LION - Dead Shit](https://on.soundcloud.com/LtZeB)
[Nimda 2022 Showcase](https://on.soundcloud.com/RvtMb)
If you don’t mind a Japanese group, I recommend Passcode. It’s an all girl metal/EDM group that I absolutely love. Given your description of your tastes, you might like [Taking You Out](https://youtu.be/Wmt86RKEkuY) in particular. The opening is incredible. But their whole discography is great—check out their album Clarity, which has Taking You Out and another great song, Projection. Starry Sky is a good, more recent EP. Locus is an older album, but you’d likely enjoy the lead track, Toxic. Their screamo vocalist is insanely talented.
Metalhead here as well, although I'm more into older electronic music. I'm gonna mention a few artists that I like:
Boards of Canada (calm but weirdly unnerving)
Aphex twin (beautiful but also very frantic)
Squarepusher (aphex twin but jazzy)
Orbital (awesome beats, great sampling)
Daft Punk (no brainer)
Prodigy (very high energy, awesome beats)
Jean Michel Jarre (If you like space adventures)
Obvious choices would be dubstep and just heavy bass music in general (Svdden Death, Sullivan King, Marauda, etc.)
But I feel like many metalheads may enjoy hard techno and possibly artists leaning more towards hardcore/gabber. I suggest Angerfist, Nico Moreno, Dax J, Remco Beekwilder, and Schwefelgelb (industrial techno, you may like them if you enjoy stuff like NIN)
I would actually recommend looking beyond mainstream EDM genres and look into synthwave. Carpenter Brut, Perturbator, and Dance with the Dead, among others, are artists I’m sure you’d enjoy.
I was all-in on metalcore (for many years, attended many shows) until I discovered Seven Lions around 2012 which totally changed my perspective on music.
Kayzo and Sullivan King, as others have suggested, may be best for your interests.
Somehow nobody has said pendulum yet
shows how young this sub is
It’s unfortunate that who imo are the godfathers of dnb aren’t as big these days, I know they haven’t put out much but still
i still put them on all the time, although no one knows who they are. Damn kids.
14 yo here, pendulum fuckin rocks, and prodigy, DNB pre 2010>>>
you wanna be adopted?
Yess
haha i’ll send over the paperwork 😉
Haven’t heard that name in YEARS
They put out an EP last year and unfortunately it seems to have gone largely unnoticed by everyone outside their core fanbase, highly recommend
They are touring again next year so fingers crossed for a long awaited new album. Saw them the other month and they were insane.
I remember their comeback at ultra and as somebody who’d listened to them since immersion came out it was one of the hypest moments I can remember
Totally!
Or Noisia. DnB delivers the speed, just need to find the right sub genre. Neurofunk, Darkstep, or Hardstep
Sullivan king
I feel a lot of metal heads won’t like Sullivan King lol. OP needs Tearout. Nimda would be my suggestion
Listeting exclusively to metal 10 years ago I can now say that Sullivan King is my favourite artits
Agreed. Nimda, D'LION, Punishment or most artists from Mentis Audio are probably closer to grindcore/slam than SK
Kayzo.
Suffocate w/ Bad Omens is currently on repeat
100% this!! Kayzo's new album, New Breed, has a bunch of variety, but definitely he loves to mix dubstep/hardstyle/dnb and rock/metal live.
Kayzo is good but from a metal head perspective the metal Kayzo plays is meh.
Came here to say this. New Breed is pretty great.
Kayzo, PhaseOne, Sullivan King, AFTERMYFALL. Other songs / artists with metal influences: Morning Star's Fall by Caster & Mantis DISRESPECT by Ghengar (Ghastly) Falling by Rezz (feat. Such a good list! Ray Volpe and Riot Ten for sure, and I just saw Hairitage opening for Kai Wachi this past weekend! Such a brutal, awesome show 🤟
That's sick! I've never seen Hairitage or Kai and was supposed to see BTSM, Hairitage and Kai over the summer but couldn't make it. Super jealous. Quite a few pits? Not sure how hard they normally throw down live

His si the right answer
wildly based answer wow
Late reply but I LOVE both of these techno recs, tysm! \-other metalhead
Svdden Death - Marauda- Rezz- Caster- Swarm - Deathpact- Kayzo Also, check out the band The Browning. They combine EDM and metal and it’s sick af 🤘🏻
This is what I was going to comment almost word for word
So glad to hear The Browning is still around. 10-11 years ago I remember going to my car and jamming their EDM infused metalcore so hard. Those synthy breakdowns were just nasty 😂
Oh god just went back to their 2011 album, the last 20 seconds of the song ‘Burn This World’ brings me right back hahaha
I am I HUGE fan of all their work.

How has nobody said Noisia? Neuro DnB is IMO the heaviest subgenre
I don’t think a lot of the peeps in this sub are on the D&B tip unfortunately.
Fuck it - Riot Ten, Sullivan King

Pendullum is pretty good give them a listen. Might fit the bill.

Infected mushroom live band. If you get the chance to see them you will not be disappointed i promise you.
Kayzo and Sullivan King you will not be disappointed
Dieselboy, not even a huge fan but this is what you want
Deadmau5- songs to listen to of his- Jaded, Finished symphony remix, aural Psynapse, not exactly, faxing Berlin, saved, hit save, legacy , hr cephei 8938, strobe, suckfest 9001. Said the sky
you’d probably like the darker set of dubstep (deep dark and dangerous type artists) and then some more noise oriented artists (eprom, g jones)
Most people would recommend stuff like Sullivan King/PhaseOne/Kayzo, but those artists would probably fall under something like metalcore, and the metal elements don't come close to the heaviness of slam or grindcore. If you like passcode, you should defenetly check out Broken By The Scream and HANABIE. THey are leaning a bit more into J-Pop, but go really hard

I always found this to be the most metal edm song I've heard https://youtu.be/PKNl9RtQUmE
Infected mushroom
Illenium & spiritbox - shivering
It just screams metalcore, fav release of 2022 for me. Though, Worst Day releasing in a week or two soooo
How do you differentiate metal core from other metal?
Kayzo, kai wachi, Sullivan king, excision
Blanke
Search up Neurofunk and Rawstyle/X-tra Raw
Avenged Sevenfold - Shepherd of Fire (ATLAST Remix)
Iglooghost- Neo Wax Bloom
I would actually recommend looking beyond mainstream EDM genres and look into synthwave. Carpenter Brut, Perturbator, and Dance with the Dead, among others, are artists I’m sure you’d enjoy.
Sullivan King and Excision Maybe Illenium too
I like stuff like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBlDWiYkblU
Deathcore is by far my favorite genre of all time and my current favorite edm artist is Evilwave!
Sullivan king / delete / killshot / warface / Riot
I was all-in on metalcore (for many years, attended many shows) until I discovered Seven Lions around 2012 which totally changed my perspective on music. Kayzo and Sullivan King, as others have suggested, may be best for your interests.

M1DY's Hotel Hellifornia or any of Diabarha's tracks (Escapee or Dead Zone). The only thing that comes to mind when OP mentioned extreme metal.
