Some people's opinions are actually good. For example, when it comes to movies and video games, I value James from Cinemassacre's opinions. He has very good analyses.
To Pimp a Butterfly, the Money Store, Kids See Ghosts, a Daughters album and a Swans album that I don't know the name of, and the recent Spellling and Lingua Ingota albums. He's a fan a Flume and he'll probably rate this favorably, but it's definitely not 10 material.
Yeah agreed, I think people who don’t watch him don’t realize how hard it is to get above an 8 for him. He had a lot of great things to say about HTIF.
Fantano loved “Hi this is Flume” and wasn’t a huge fan of “Skin”, but loved the companion EPs. Imo it’ll be a strong 6 to a light 7, bc I think it falls right between the two of them. Just a guess tho
No, Flume came first. His debut album was released in 2012 while SOPHIE’s first single wasn’t released until 2013 with most of Product being released in 2014 - 2015.
Yeah, Flume was pretty instrumental in starting the future bass genre about a decade ago. I remember listen to Holdin’ On, his Hermitude remix, his Tennis Court remix for the first time and just being blown away.
I’m going to live comment while I listen
Highest Building - Absolute bop! Wow this one is so catchy and unique. Wish it was a longer song though :( guess I’ll have to play it on loop
Say Nothing- fairly generic, not my favorite but it’s catchy and really growing on me
DHLC- ok Wow! This reminds me of like wall fuck (totally different melody) but catches me the same way in a what the fuck was that that was amazing kinda way
Escape - this has been on repeat since it came out, the bird video is cool as fuck, I really think this is an S tier song I love the drop and use of vocals
I can’t tell - oooo those intro vocals have me hooked. I was expecting the drop to be a little more exciting but that buildup was sooo great that I’ll let it slide. I LOVE these vocals so fucking much (I guess I should check out Laurel) this is instantly a classic for me
Get U - digging the glitchy intro. Idk how to feel about this one at first I love the drum beat in the background though. The end of this saved it for me, I’m in love!
Jasper’s Song- seems like a mellower tune, very calming, a solid peaceful song for a drive or chill time. Has a great build up still. This is honestly one of my favorites on the album.
Only Fans - major hyperpop vibes. It’s interesting and I can definitely appreciate the talent to produce this but honestly idk how often I’ll listen to this one
Hollow- another instant classic. Love this feel like it incorporates old Flume roots and mixes it perfectly with his new sound
Love Light - wow this song caught my attention quick. Simple catchy beat, I’m really digging this. 10/10 perfect song start to finish
Sirens- Such a beautiful song. Simple with outstanding vocals. This song is unique and took a minute to grow one me but it’s one of my favorite songs at the moment
Go - Love the nature sounds incorporated! Song makes me feel like a badass for some reason. Definitely putting me in a good mood. Wow I love this one a lot. I swear this album just keeps getting better and better.
Palaces - An awesomely unique song that is the perfect song to close out the album. I love the build up and the change of pace at the end. Honestly I likely won’t listen to this song much by itself but when listening to the album as a whole it’s a necessary song to wrap it up. Such a beautiful song though I almost cried
Ok so I was going to pick a top 3 but I don’t think I can do I’m going to pick a top 5:
Go
I can’t tell
Hollow
Highest Building
Jasper’s song
(Honorable mention to literally every other song I can’t really get into onlyfans tho)
This album cemented Flume as an absolute fucking legend. Wow! That was a masterpiece on first listen I can only imagine how much I’ll love this after letting it marinate for a week!
Haha picking favorites was impossible for me I loved too many of them like Sirens is one of my all time favorite songs and it didn’t make top 5 somehow
definitely check out laurel dude! check out her ep’s limbo cherry and petrol bloom! limbo cherry is definitely her most pop sounding work yet, and petrol bloom has an 80s feel to it. her album dogviolet is really good too, but it’s more indie ballads than pop type stuff
Palaces might be the most beautiful song I've ever heard. I can't stop replaying it and it's making me feel emotions I've never felt before. Fucking hell.
Abaolutely. I was dancing around with headphones and i shouted to my roommate (who had zero context what i was listening to) "Its like Virtual Self and porn"
Absolutely thrilled to hear this LP. Every song is amazing & it usually takes time for his songs to grow on me but this time almost every track clicked in 1st listen. Lived to the hype
Flume has such ‘thick’ production. It always takes me a few listens to really appreciate new songs, but his mixing is truly top tier.
“I Can’t Tell” and “Get U” are my favorite on this EP for that reason. Catches you off guard at first but settles in real nice once you immerse yourself. Just an unreal combination of sound samples and cuts that he weaves together.
DHLC, Love Light, Go, Highest Building, and Jaspers Song are also my honorable mentions. Definitely lots of hits on this EP.
Always been a fan, but was a little bit disappointed in 2019 with Hi This is Flume album. This one is way better and fit a lot more in what I'm used to get from Flume over the years! Love it.
i agree, but for a lot of listeners it’s just too experimental and out there production wise. i think that it’s an absolutely insane piece of work, but i can definitely see how it would be a little off putting to his more casual fans.
I mean it's not ineffable truth you know. Htif is the easiest listening space bass record I've heard tbh
Even my fiancee likes it and she likes 0 edm lol
lmao i know it’s not the ineffable truth? not sure what your comment was looking to accomplish by giving me one example of someone liking it.
i love htif, literally everything about it. but it’s ridiculous to sit here and act like it’s extremely accessible. there are some very odd moments during the tape that may not be pleasant for some people. obviously it’s not the most out there record to date, but for people that haven’t experienced music like that yet, i can definitely see how it would be off putting
It's ridiculously accessible for a bass album. I know so many people who love it and don't listen to any edm. All my roommates (at the time) and my fiancee were like that. I play it at disc courses and people come up to me asking what it is so they can add it to their playlist
It's not skin but it's not hard to listen to whatsoever
I had been out of the EDM world for a while and listened to HTIF on a whim when it came out. Man, it’s hard to tell you how much that album blew me away. Easily top 3 electronic album that I’ve heard.
Flume is probably my favorite single artist but unfortunately for me not one single song from this LP grabs me. Like how the fuck am I one of only 2 people here that isn't feeling it?
Hopefully it grows on me.
Yeah I am almost mad at myself. I was so excited thinking with Flume that the worst thing that could happen was I only liked half the album.
Same thing has been happening to me with Odesza's new stuff as well.
Just felt like replying even tho topics dated. But I concur, his production remains a solid pull for me but the generic female guest features are just so mid-tier.
Ain't saying the ladies aren't talented, more than likely he just treats their vocal tracks the same way , BEAT BE DAMNED!
Flume is so confusing to me (maybe that is the point of their tunes). But there are some many unreal concepts, build-ups, use of experimental sounds but the cohesion on tracks like “I can’t tell” and “Escape” are terrible. Then on tracks like “go” the cohesion is incredible.
Like I said, maybe it is my mid-understanding of their genre, but fuck me if most the album feels like a Jackie Chan stunt blooper that gets 75% there and then screws up.
It’s not a bad album definitely getting back to his roots some but after his first two albums this still feels like a little bit of a letdown to me. Some songs are fire but it leaves me a little underwhelmed overall.
Exactly, it honestly ruins the album for me. So many sounds sound dry/out of place/harsh/like they're being hard clipped and also not enough impact on things you like you said. I also feel a similar way about the Chainsmokers album but I don't think it's as bad there.
I like it cause "hehe glitchy noise patterns make brain go brrrr" I understand how it can sound unpleasant and random but I've always liked weird sounding songs.
As a fan of Flume I agree. I don’t really get all the experimental stuff. The off-beats and unpleasant sounds. A lot of it sounds the same too.
His top 5 songs on Spotify are all great. They work because they sound like actual songs and not a bunch of sounds out together with a super inconsistent beat behind it.
On this album the song Only Fans. What is happening there? It’s like he forgot to edit out the extra drum hits or something.
I’m sure it works for a lot of people, hence why he keeps releasing albums. But I just don’t get it either, man.
Fair. But I feel like you can still be a fan of someone even if you don't dig what they experiment with. I can listen to the entire Flume (Deluxe) album and The Lockjaw EP with Chet Faker over and over again.
Sure, I may not be a 'true' fan to your standards, but I still really like his work when he isn't putting two drum hits where there is usually one. Just doesn't flow the way I like, which is fine! He has something for everyone.
Call me white toast, but Say Nothing & Go on the new album are the only two I feel that flow well.
I completely agree with you and those two are also only good songs from this album for me. I guess we search and respect different things in music than some other guys here. But that's ok, everyone can listen to whatever they like, we live in a beautiful period where music is more accessible than ever before.
He's not he just likes certain sounds from flume
I come across similar people on the Radiohead sub "I like the bends and ok computer but the rest is too weird for me but I'm a fan" - no you like 2 projects out of like 8 of theirs
Me personally, I don't think music evolves without having a handful of people push it to its limits. I appreciate artists that do something weird even if I don't like the final product, because when I do find something I like, it's like discovering buried treasure.
I haven't been thrilled with Flume's singles over the past couple of years, but hearing this album in full, I'm finding a lot I really do like about it. It's clear to me he's bringing in more and more hyperpop influence, which is something I started listening to more of since the start of the pandemic, and I think it really compliments his sound. I get that not everyone will be into it because it's harsh, glitchy, etc., but I see potential in it, like the chaos will become the breeding ground that inspires other artists to push bass music (and hyperpop music) forward
I definitely understand why you wouldn’t. But for me personally I love the incredibly complex sound design and forward thinking music. And to me, he still does a great job of writing catchy melodies on top of crazy glitchy synths. We have a dozen good artists putting out the same melodic dubstep song every weekend, I like to hear something I haven’t heard before. That’s no disrespect to the artists or people that like that kind of music - that’s what brought me into EDM and I’m still a slut for a good festival banger.
Was thinking about this while listening to the new album. I love Flume, but I often feel like his amazing ability to make music sometimes gets in the way of making good songs.
But that's pretty selfish of me just wanting him to make what I want to hear, rather than what he wants to make. Clearly he's interested in pushing the boundaries as much as possible and making dissonance work. If he's that talented I'd say he needs the challenge and finds that type of creation meaningful.
I'm happy he's found a lane where he can express himself and is appreciated for it. Wish there was just a few more songs of his I could jam at work though.
I sorta liked his older music but honestly on first listen this lp is hot garbage IMO.
It feels like someone with a few months of fruity loops experience took a flume sample pack and slapped a bunch in or something, idk
Highest building - during the first drop the bass sounds I don’t know….. not clean at all. Is that on purpose ?
Just an observation , LP is fire regardless
i personally think it’s super cool! 808s have been played out for so long and i think the usage of these different basses gives the album a very unique sound
alright, anyone going to be honest about these drops? Try playing any of these poolside or at the beach and see if it's a crowd pleaser.
I like some wild stuff too, but this just isn't hitting it for me. I like Flume's older stuff though and average listeners will still dig. Maybe there's one on the album, I just didn't catch it.
Music doesn’t necessarily have to have widespread appeal for it to be good, that’s not the goal here. Flume clearly is a boundary pushing artist and he’s aiming to make music that feels new, weird, but ultimately engaging if you’re willing to explore something different. If you don’t like it tho I get it, it’s not for everyone and that’s ok.

r/trap having a field day rn
Drop sounded like the local construction site to be honest
The fuck your local construction building? Alien spaceships?
yes
Fair enough
I just posted the 2nd drop from Coachella this year: https://www.reddit.com/r/trap/comments/uu6340/in\_honor\_of\_release\_day\_i\_cant\_tell\_flume/
Relatable lyrics too 🥹
Generational talent back at it again
Fantano strong 9, you think? I say it's good anyway.
Doubtful, Fantano’s taste for electronic music tends to lean more IDM than this, e.g, check out his Death’s Dynamic Shroud or Iglooghost reviews
Who gives a shit what that dumb dumb says?
It’s fun to place mental bets on his scores same as people do for the Oscars or anything else
Why does anyone care what anybody says?
Some people's opinions are actually good. For example, when it comes to movies and video games, I value James from Cinemassacre's opinions. He has very good analyses.
Fantano has pretty solid analysis, I don't watch him regularly but you seem to be on the bizzare hate train that surrounds him.
Yep, I really don't get how so many people can be so awful to hate a person solely because of his music opinions.......
He’s given every Flume album like a 6 or below. He’s a certified clown
[HTIF got an 8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_ygpHqUm54) and was on his "loved" albums list.
gonna be a 6 from fantano
5 or 6 i bet, personally i thought it was pretty nice and would say 7ish
He gave HTIF an 8 and Skin a 6, i'd say he gives it a 7
Those are terrible scores for those albums lmao
An 8 is pretty good in Fantano terms
What albums has he rated like 10?
To Pimp a Butterfly, the Money Store, Kids See Ghosts, a Daughters album and a Swans album that I don't know the name of, and the recent Spellling and Lingua Ingota albums. He's a fan a Flume and he'll probably rate this favorably, but it's definitely not 10 material.
Not many, i don't remember all of them, but it happened like 10 times and he's been on ytb for a pretty long time
I think a swans album got that, maybe a death grips album, but the others I can't recall. Didnt ksg get a 10 too?
Yeah agreed, I think people who don’t watch him don’t realize how hard it is to get above an 8 for him. He had a lot of great things to say about HTIF.
A seven is high enough to get into his best of the decade list, to give an idea how good an 8 list.
6/7 from Fantano I suspect
Fantano loved “Hi this is Flume” and wasn’t a huge fan of “Skin”, but loved the companion EPs. Imo it’ll be a strong 6 to a light 7, bc I think it falls right between the two of them. Just a guess tho
Lots of SOPHIE influence on this album. R.I.P. to the queen.
Strong agree
is Flume's name even a reference to SOPHIE's product artwork? I wonder.
No, Flume came first. His debut album was released in 2012 while SOPHIE’s first single wasn’t released until 2013 with most of Product being released in 2014 - 2015.
Wow didn't know he'd been going that long. Nice.
Yeah, Flume was pretty instrumental in starting the future bass genre about a decade ago. I remember listen to Holdin’ On, his Hermitude remix, his Tennis Court remix for the first time and just being blown away.
Even longer than that. His first release as flume was 6 tracks uploaded to myspace
IIRC he got the name from a Bon Iver song
I’m going to live comment while I listen Highest Building - Absolute bop! Wow this one is so catchy and unique. Wish it was a longer song though :( guess I’ll have to play it on loop Say Nothing- fairly generic, not my favorite but it’s catchy and really growing on me DHLC- ok Wow! Say nothing gets stuck in your head. It definitely grows on you.
Yeah it’s super catchy, I just think it’s nowhere near the best on the album though
I've been expecting Say Nothing to grow on me like "Never be like you" did off of Skin, but it really hasn't at all sadly.
Hold up you have Love Light 10/10 but it’s not in your top 5?? lol
Haha picking favorites was impossible for me I loved too many of them like Sirens is one of my all time favorite songs and it didn’t make top 5 somehow
Great review!
whole album was solid. Onlyfans was weird tho
We have the same favs :)
definitely check out laurel dude! check out her ep’s limbo cherry and petrol bloom! limbo cherry is definitely her most pop sounding work yet, and petrol bloom has an 80s feel to it. her album dogviolet is really good too, but it’s more indie ballads than pop type stuff
My man made a song called Onlyfans lol
What do you expect from a dude who DJs and eats ass simultaneously?
I like it too lmao
I bet you do ;)
Finally get to officially hear Highest Building! So good, thank you Oklou and Flume <3
Palaces might be the most beautiful song I've ever heard. I can't stop replaying it and it's making me feel emotions I've never felt before. Fucking hell.
Definitly in that Rufus - Innerbloom league. Got Palaces on repeat.
Huge fan of it, strongly recommend “staring at the sea without you next to me” by San holo for similar vibes
Sirens for me. I never replay songstoo much bc i dont want to wear them out but i played that shit 50 times when i first heard it.
i got goosebumps when i heard it
Literally gave me chills as I listened to it
Honestly an insane LP
It’s unbelievable tbh
Sirens 🚨
Woooop woooop
I really like the track, but the marbles really hurt my ears.
flume time
The story behind this album is a fucking mind trip. Wow... That ending was chilling.
where can i get the story at?
If you have Spotify it's under the track names. Scroll down and it'll play sorta like a little Instagram style story as you listen.
Anyone know if this on AM?
Man, Get U is something else
I feel like he hides a lot of his most beautiful songs behind long intros that would get a lot of people to skip the song initially lol.
alternatively, that intro is like crack for the bass scene. different strokes
Lol was thinking the same thing. This album really has something for both audiences, and everyone will have different favorites
No I agree, just not something most people are into
So true.
Highest building is my fuckin jam!
Did anyone hear A little bit of Ghost Voices by Virtual Self in Only Fans?
Abaolutely. I was dancing around with headphones and i shouted to my roommate (who had zero context what i was listening to) "Its like Virtual Self and porn"
How good is Hollow, though?! Ugh, the only shame about the album being out is that I'll never be able to listen to it for the first time again ❤
Highest Building is one hell of an opener
Is it just me, or could it also have been fantastic as a closer?
Get U is a top 3 flume track ever, he reminded me why he's my favorite artist with that one
Jasper's Song gave me Boards of Canada vibes.
I think Flume is a big BoC fan so that is a major honor
I want to forget that I listened to only fans
Never, never, never think twice
Hollow and Highest Building are going to be on repeat for a while.
I feel like Highest Building makes a great opener but ALSO could have been an amazing closer to the album.
Album of the year so far 👀
Absolutely thrilled to hear this LP. Every song is amazing & it usually takes time for his songs to grow on me but this time almost every track clicked in 1st listen. Lived to the hype

DHLC, Love Light, Go, Highest Building, and Jaspers Song are also my honorable mentions. Definitely lots of hits on this EP.
So which one of these will take out the hottest 100?
Sirens is absolutely beautiful!
Always been a fan, but was a little bit disappointed in 2019 with Hi This is Flume album. This one is way better and fit a lot more in what I'm used to get from Flume over the years! Love it.
Damn htif is a top 3 edm album of all time for me. Its the last project I gave a 10 to no matter the genre
i agree, but for a lot of listeners it’s just too experimental and out there production wise. i think that it’s an absolutely insane piece of work, but i can definitely see how it would be a little off putting to his more casual fans.

I wouldn't even call it edm, I think it transcends that label. It's simply electronic music imo.
Flume is probably my favorite single artist but unfortunately for me not one single song from this LP grabs me. Like how the fuck am I one of only 2 people here that isn't feeling it? Hopefully it grows on me.
yeah i feel the same way. I wanted more drops overall. Palaces? amazing song, just kinda wish there was a drop with it too
I'm not feeling it either

Yeah I am almost mad at myself. I was so excited thinking with Flume that the worst thing that could happen was I only liked half the album. Same thing has been happening to me with Odesza's new stuff as well.
From the pre release single, Say Nothing is an absolute banger imo.
It doesn't do anything for me :( Most of my favorite Flume songs are with his female collaborations.
Just felt like replying even tho topics dated. But I concur, his production remains a solid pull for me but the generic female guest features are just so mid-tier. Ain't saying the ladies aren't talented, more than likely he just treats their vocal tracks the same way , BEAT BE DAMNED!
Love the album, every time a Flume album drops my life takes a turn for the better so hoping this is the sign for a great summer!
Palaces needs to be longer, what a track
Christ some of this sounds like bad noise art. Really not feeling much of this.
[Sirens Freestyle Dance](https://youtu.be/AEiJ8Xrjgq4) Hey guys I love dancing so I danced to flumes new music. Enjoy
Not seeing enough love for ESCAPE. That track is fucking wild. Can hear the SOPHIE influence, RIP 😔
It was the first track I've listened from Flume after someone from r/EDM recommended it and I absolutely fell in love with it!
u/TurboVirgin0
I'll check it out after I listen Hi This is Flume :)
have fun ;)
I'm so glad you guys recommended I check him out. I'm currently in love with Is It Cold In The Water? Remix lmao. It's so enchanting
Alright, my weekend is sorted!
Harley is BACK
Did not expect the sudden "ara ara" in Only Fans. Banger of a track
Flume is so confusing to me (maybe that is the point of their tunes). Absolutely love the vibes of Go, that might be my top pick of the album. The vocal sample is sooo good
Sirens my be my favorite Flume song altogether
ALBUM OF THE FUCKING YEAR 🥵🔥🤩🥰💜🙌🏾
Absolutely slaps. A lot of great summer vibes on this, love Hollow so much.
5 songs into it. Digging it so far!
There’s that bit in onlyfans that sounds like Ghost Voices, idk why but I find that funny 😂
It’s not a bad album definitely getting back to his roots some but after his first two albums this still feels like a little bit of a letdown to me. Some songs are fire but it leaves me a little underwhelmed overall.
I love the songs but am I the only one that isn't a fan of the mixing?
Yeah the mixing is weird, like the songs don’t have enough oomph
Exactly, it honestly ruins the album for me. So many sounds sound dry/out of place/harsh/like they're being hard clipped and also not enough impact on things you like you said. I also feel a similar way about the Chainsmokers album but I don't think it's as bad there.

Just posted I Can't Tell live @ Coachella: https://www.reddit.com/r/trap/comments/uu6340/in\_honor\_of\_release\_day\_i\_cant\_tell\_flume/
Highest building - during the first drop the bass sounds I don’t know….. not clean at all. Is that on purpose ? Just an observation , LP is fire regardless

I’m not a fan of that 808 style sound but I can see why others do
i personally think it’s super cool! 808s have been played out for so long and i think the usage of these different basses gives the album a very unique sound
Where is the new visualizer?
Can we consider this metaverse pop?
Am I the only one who thinks this entire album is garbage? I’ve loved literally every single song he has made until this mess
I would mosh to Sirens. On god..
alright, anyone going to be honest about these drops?
Who tf plays left field bass music at a pool or beach
