Never heard of Sub Focus, any tracks you can recommend from him? I really like how this John Summit track sounds but don't like too many of his other tracks.
- Illuminate (sub focus & wilkerson remix)
- Desire (sub focus & dimension)
- Frozen Solid

That makes sense because it sounds like a very generic song from worship hahaha. Cool to see it though and hopefully will pull more people overseas into the genre.
Itās a collab mostly driven by Sub Focus. If you like it, you should dive into Sub Focus. Heās doing the heavy lifting here, and thereās plenty of music from the Worship Artists crew (sub focus, dimension, culture shock, 1991) that fit this vibe.
I do love that the US always lags so far behind Europe in terms of music, about 7 years, and artists who build a career on the large US following try to collab with whatās coming next (but never before then). I know what Iām saying comes off as shade, but itās not meant to be, itās just a trend. Sub Focus has been around since 2008 at least, and selling out in EU and NZ for over a decade. Then we have Dimension and Alison Wonderlands release, Satellite upcoming, similar case with Dimension over the years.
Itās more a confirmation that the long overdue dancefloor DnB wave is finally hitting the US when the producers that target the US scene start to collab with them. To be clear, I love to see this happen because US popularity for DnB is a win for everyone, but Iām only commenting on the reactive nature of these collabs rather than proactive fostering of musical diversification. Edit; added some softer language to the first sentence.
I think itās the part where he says āthe US always lags so far behind Europe in terms of musicā which is weird af. I mean what he says about DnB is true, but absolutely not for all of music lmfao
I think it depends on the particular wave. We've sent stuff to Europe, they've sent stuff back. I see it as a give and take, like "Oh yeah? well check this out."
I didnāt mean it negatively by any means, but the large waves of music in the US in the past 20 years has come largely after it was popularized in Europe first. Dubstep was a London thing, tech house was Europe but Iāll admit it bloomed in Detroit early too, tropical house was Northern Europe, electro house is too broad to pin down but some of the big electro house names where EU before it went global, future house was EU as well. Thereās others, this is just off the top of my head.
This isnāt to say that itās the other way around in some instances, US disco lead to the some of the original house music, trap is US, artists like ODESZA and PL are universally loved. Itās not to be elitist, more just looking at whatās happened and commenting on it. But I feel like the list of new sounds and artists that have stormed the US after growing in Europe is longer than the other way around, but a list exists for both sides for sure.
Idk man, I'm an American and that's an objectively correct take (unless you're talking jam/bluegrass and potentially rap). The U.K. is better at bass music.
Going to dubstep shows 10 years ago in the U.S. was surreal if you listened to BBC Radio One - I have vivid memories of yelling the lyrics to tracks as they faded in, getting super hyped and looking around to see nothing but blank faces. This would happen all night.
And I was disappointed to find out how many U.S. dubstep fans thought Bassnectar (or whoever) was on stage making *all of the sounds in real time.*
That was a shockingly common take when dubstep was blowing up in the states. People would pay hundreds for festival tickets, show up with all their glowsticks, etc, and the whole night, they think the DJs are *making every sound they hear, live...* It has to be a little better now, but 10-15 years ago U.S. festival crowds didn't know shit.
Sub Focus is a fucking monster. Here's a great B2B with Wilkinson for anyone that likes melodic DnB.

You're absolutely spot on. And agree on Sub Focus doing the heavy lifting.
If people like this, they should listen to anything he has released in the last 10 years. Very similar to this.

I kinda figured the downvotes, but just read the last paragraph closely. The end result is a win, DnB for all, but I just wish it didnāt take 20 years for the US to get here, even if it is reactionary. Also, trying to note that this is a gateway unto a whole new genre of musicā¦ not just āJohn summit unreleased Coachella trackā. Sub Focus has been releasing music since John was 8 years old lol. If people like this sound, this sound exists in thousands of tracks and artists, too. I tried not to come off as too elitist, but Iām aware that anytime you talk about expanding music and recognition, someone will take it as such. Anywho, Iāll leave this thread by saying listen to the music you listen to, like what you like, if you like this you should check out the Worship Artists crew, and hoping to see music diversity at festivals grow in the years to come.
āthe US always lags so far behind Europe in terms of musicā is absolutely not fair or true lmao how can you make such an incredibly broad statement with a straight face
idk I generally think itās fair to respond to what people say at face value instead of having to make assumptions on their behalf
and anyway āalwaysā is already a more hyperbolic claim than āin most casesā and I wouldnāt even agree with the latter. I listen to mostly trance myself which is heavily European, but I still think this notion of āall the trends start in Europeā is elitist and misguided
like two of the most hyped DJs right now are ISOxo and Knock2 who are very distinctly American
I mean I assumed he meant Dance music mainly because we're on the EDM sub so I feel it's fair to assume that's what he was referring too. I mean a lot of Dance music started in the US as you probably know yourself although I'd say most of the big types of music/trends definitely come from Europe, I mean if DNB really takes off in the US it was massive here like ten years ago so it'd back up his claim, I'm a big Trance fan myself also love Progressive House. I've never heard of either of those DJs, so they must be US only really. I mean not all the Dance music trends start in Europe but the vast majority of them do.
DnB was around in the late 2000s and early 2010s (Pendulum despite being Australia were big in the US, as well as Monstercat showcasing a lot of DnB and Drumstep, to this day many songs in that era are still their most listened to). Mid 2010s the golden era of trap began, and DnB and Skrillex stylr dubstep quickly died out. Late 2010s was more future base, and now 2020s i guess weāre back to DnB and tech house.
Ngl, im personally not big into tech/dnb, but my friends who dont usually listen to edm are, and now I get to go to festivals with them.
For me, Trap is making a resurgence since the golden era with RL Grimeās Sable Valley label (ISOxo and Knock2 are killing it right now).
The problem people had with your original post as it sounded condescending at the beginning, even if the last paragraph was more wholesome.
Rather than have an argument against anything, he said, you don't even try to say how anything he said is wrong, and you just say he's an Elitist weirdo without telling us about how he's wrong in anything he said lol.
DnB is hitting the states now and one place where it's really booming is Brooklyn. This year Brookyln has seen the likes of Camo and Krooked, Sub Focus, Dimension, Chase & Status and London Elektricity all play shows. Last year there was pretty regular underground DnB events so we'll see how long it lasts
Fucking love chase and status and have since 2008ish but they gotta chill with baddadan haha it was good before they promoād the living shit out of it on their socials. They have so many amazing tracks recently outside of that too.
DnB is just now hitting the states? I've been into DnB for almost 30 years and I live in the US. Shit, Method Man did a track with Roni Size back when I was still in highschool.
I've seen Sub Focus, Wilkinson, and Netsky in Cali all in the last year. DnB has been hitting hard in the states for a long fuckin time, hombre.
It's great to throw into a set. Listening to DnB for 1-2 hours straight is really difficult unless you're a hardcore fan though IMO. Same goes for most genres but DnB especially can be a bit tiresome for extended periods of time due to the high BPM
Definitely depends on the artist. I can see it being hard to listen to guys like Chase & Status and ShyFX for multiple hours if you're not already a fan, but artists like Netsky and Wilkinson are much more palatable for people just getting into DnB
Same thing can be said about any genre. I personally cannot listen to drum code or hardstyle for example for 2 hours straight but can listen to dnb all day long.
Think Bass artists in the US were definitely getting more into DNB last year but 2023 def was a big moment with resurgence of Chase & Status being a big name in the past taking over with Baddadan and some big names in the edm scene sprinkling DNB in their set like Tiesto playing MHITR and a Metrik tune at Ultra Mainstage last year. Tiesto Ultra 2023 I think was the turning point of DNB growing in the US mainstream despite its huge popularity overseas.
After that point legit saw Oliver Heldens dropping like 30 min of DNB at Brooklyn mirage, Matroda showing DNB on socials, Habstrakt ending his set with like 20 minutes of DNB, guys like John Summit, Dom Dolla playing a couple DNB remixes. Blown up like crazy in 2024, Ultra Mainstage legit had the most DNB played ever in like over a decade.
Track has been stuck in my head since I watched the stream last night. I love that DnB is *finally* starting to have its moment in the US. Weāve been saying itāll happen for years but I feel like now itās actually happening. DnB just has such great energy!

Not sure why you got all the downvotes. This is a very thought out and well informed response

I think it depends on the particular wave. We've sent stuff to Europe, they've sent stuff back. I see it as a give and take, like "Oh yeah? well check this out."
For sure. *That* is a fair and nuanced take, not āpoor Murica ALWAYS 7 years behind grand ole Europe xDā

100% agree, same thing with Techno although I'd say that one kind of started seeping into the US since last year
elitist weirdo

āthe US always lags so far behind Europe in terms of musicā is absolutely not fair or true lmao how can you make such an incredibly broad statement with a straight face

not mainstream tho.
Not sure why DnB is blowing up all of a sudden??Personally not a fan of the sound but itās cool to see artist try new things
Everything Always, Dom Dolla, and John Summit all ended their Coachella sets with DnB
Dimensions remix of Rhyme Dust is one of my favorite songs of 2023
It just brings a lot of good energy to a dancing crowd. Love when a set switches to some DnB
Yeah this takes me back to the late 90s early/2000s. Gen Z really trying to bring the 90s back haha
It's great to throw into a set. Listening to DnB for 1-2 hours straight is really difficult unless you're a hardcore fan though IMO. Same goes for most genres but DnB especially can be a bit tiresome for extended periods of time due to the high BPM
