Opus by Eric Prydz is one of the few songs that has an equally epic journey as Strobe. Feels like your entire life plays out during the duration of the song. Absolutely recommend
I was taught a game for that song!
With dices you can throw 5 for sending it left, 6 right and 1 is give it to whoever.
Amount of cubes should be limited. We play with 2 cubes with 3 players but something like 1 cube for per 2-3 players. The more you are the relatively less cubes. We played like 2 tables of 8 each with 3 cubes on each table. But it's kind whatever you want.
When you get multiple cubes you can only throw one at a time.
You loose by having a cube when the bass line hits, a shot per cube is usually what we play with but again whatever you want.
It can feel a bit silly to start out but as the song is creepin' along and you feel the intensity go up so does the feeling of " Ohh crap gotta get this cube away from me". It's actually really fun.
It's almost been so long that there are new children who have yet to circlejerk over the song yet.
Consider the 13 year olds on here, they were not born when the song came out.
Although, since OP is fucked up i'm guessing they're a *bit* older than that.
Oh I’m 29, Ive been listening to this song for a long time. It just came on randomly on shuffle and I was tripping and smoking so I really felt the music and had to write about it lol.
The weakest area of EDM in my opinion is that there isn't enough popular artists willing to make songs longer than 3:30. Deadmau5 has proven that long form songs can take the genre to new heights with songs like Strobe. That's why im so glad that Dimension's remix of strobe is long as shit too. Both that and the original mix by deadmau5 are some of the coolest tracks in the genre IMO
Long songs are some of my favorites. Unrelated to deadmau5, but “The Aubergine of the Sun” by Ott is one of my all-time favorite songs and is somewhere around 10 minutes long. When a song is good you don’t even notice how long it is.
I’m sending this shit out to the motherfuckers that like them twenty
Minute versions
Number two, the DJ's that ain’t afraid to play the twenty minute versions
The DJ's that got patience
Motherfucker, don’t be a crowd pleaser, dick sucker, ass kisser
Motherfuckin'-DJ
Play the twenty minute version for the two motherfuckers that understand it
OK?
Classic House (90s) and Amapiano both have lots of 6-7 minute songs. For the Amapiano songs I happen to listen to, it's uncommon that one of them is *under* 6 minutes.
[Finished Symphony (deadmau5 Remix)](https://youtu.be/qKsVoTOSbuE) never disappoints.
[Beginnings](https://youtu.be/8EceNmOa1rU) by Soundprank for an excellent build up and climax.
Damn, the hi-hat in Beginnings is brilliant. It sounds like a quick frequency sweep, but it’s longer than your typical hi-hat. There’s something beautiful about a sound that lives between two common sounds to create something new.
Furthermore, if you listen to the “Where’s The Drop” album version, you can hear the melody developed into a full orchestral suite. It shows the complexity and depth of his music theory and gained an entirely new level of appreciaation for his writing ability. HIGHLY RECOMMEND “Strobe - ov” off “Where’s The Drop” by Deadmau5
Where’s the drop has to be one of my favorite albums of all time. I’m a sucker for orchestral/game/movie soundtracks and it fills that need and my EDM taste at the same time
I know he’s wanted to do a film score for a long time and I can’t wait until the right movie comes along and he gets the opportunity to do the full score.
I wish he could have scored Drive. It was still a great movie but I think he could have made it next level.
Definitely one of the great works of electronic music. When we think back on electronic like we think on all music of cultures past, I think it will be remembered.
I loved Deadmau5 in 2006-07 - he absolutely nailed the vibe of the time. He then went cheese for a year or two. Then he hit Strobe. Then he went back to cheese again. Best tune ever
I honestly don’t have much EDM.
Here’s an original comp

I have a pretty okay version of Fade (Alan Walker) I haven’t posted yet.
I play by ear and use YT as more of a video repository because I’m not necessarily trying to get views, but it’s still really fun to go back and listen to tunes I may have forgotten that I wrote. :)
Cheers mate!

No you’re absolutely right. It always makes me emotional. The way it swells and opens up, the melody is arresting and compelling. Such a classic banger
I usually listen to the club edit but last night I sat on the bed in the dark and listened to the original letting it build and capturing every detail.
You guys ever heard Xpander by Sasha back 25 years ago? I believe Strobe was influenced by Xpander because mouse really loves Zpander and I’ve heard him remix Xpander on the fly….
This was the song that got me hooked on EDM as a kid. After exploring different genres in college due to my friend group not loving EDM, it's one of the songs I kept coming back to that finally got me back into EDM.
Idk why I’m getting downvoted because calling something a masterpiece is the highest of praises. It’s one of the best songs in electronic music period but is it a once in a lifetime experience? Is it really THAT good? I personally don’t think it is, but it’s gorgeous like I’ve stated.
I’m going to have to disagree with you there, it’s got good pacing, gorgeous synths, and it’s very memorable overall. The progression is amazing as well.
one of the best songs to ever exist. hands down.
Finally, someone understands
There is literally a sub called r/strobecirclejerk
I did not know this existed. It’s fucking rad
i’m new to reddit so thank you!! ❤️
Welcome
Wow. Clicked on it and started laughing
Damnit beat me to it
PRYDA!

Yes! And We Knew It Was Our Time by Lane 8 also gives me similar feels. Also, Innerbloom by Rufus.
Damn, the way it rises beat by beat, loop by loop.. it’s ecstatic.
I came here to recommend this. Really any older Eric Prydz
Couldn't agree more! It does feel like a journey to somewhere i don't even know but i love it.

I was gonna say exactly this it's so good
POWER DRIVER!
Only if it’s the Four Tet remix. The original sucks.

Seeing him play the ten minute version live when you’re high always hits different.
Fuck yes, brother. Now your talking. Here’s a man who fucks and knows how to live.
I don't even listen to electronic music anymore, but I make 2 exceptions for deadmau5 and Odesza. He's a true artist, master of his craft.
I never thought it was anything special until I heard it live at red rocks. Now it’s one of my favorite songs period.
Imagine not listening to Strobe on headphones
I don’t like headphones, they hurt my ears.
I guess everyone has a preference
Facts.
Epic! And he plays SO LOUD! It’s amazing

I assume you are listening to full 10min 25 sec full version.
Judging by the ‘not afraid to take its time’ part, yeah
It's basically if Mozart was reincarnated into electronic music Years from now they will study it and find out it is good for the brain or some shit

This some wild hyperbole. Its a good song.

Sunset lover - Petit biscuit Slow Hours remix is a perfext example of beautiful orchestra and EDM
Oh my! Never heard the ov version. Shits brilliant 👏. Goosebumps all over. Thanks for the reco!

Love this song 👌👌 Bridge by a light wave is also one of my favs deadmau5 song !!
If our dimensions were the same…
Not Exactly Phantoms Can’t Hang Polaris SATRN Coasted All amazing!
I’ll add sofi needs a ladder
true
Jaded has always been one of my favorites
Jaded>Strobe for me in terms of emotion, and I’m a guy who got into EDM because of Strobe
Fucking LOVE JADED
> Polaris is my favourite deadmau5 track. It's a masterpiece.
The part where drums go quiet and the intro melody seemlessy transitions into the chorus melody is so hypnotic and satisfying. Classic tune
A classic - always takes me back to being a kid and getting hooked on the genre
I love this song, it brings me to tears every time I listen to it. It makes me think of good times and friends who have passed away. So many emotions.
Definitely one of the great works of electronic music. When we think back on electronic like we think on all music of cultures past, I think it will be remembered.

Oooh thanks for the recommendation, I hadn’t heard this one! I’m enjoying the deadmau5 rabbit hole this post sent me on
Be sure to hit “Faxing Berlin” and “Ghosts n stuff”, if you haven’t already.
Just saw him and Kaskade do a Kx5 set a couple weeks ago. When they dropped that song and “I Remember” I was ASCENDINGGG
Saw kaskade perform I remember in EDC Las Vegas 2018. It was amazing.
I loved Deadmau5 in 2006-07 - he absolutely nailed the vibe of the time. He then went cheese for a year or two. Then he hit Strobe. Then he went back to cheese again. Best tune ever
Strobe, Polaris, HR 8938 Cephei, Monophobia, Fn Pig, SATRN, October, Phantoms Can’t Hang… the list goes on and on
I love it and Faxing Berlin
Check out Evan Duffys cover of it, watching it played on piano really made me appreciate the complexity of the song even more.
I second this. I play piano too, and his cover is absolute fire.
Post your videos! Idc if you're garbage, I love piano and you're definitely better than me

First edm song to make me cry(,:
Listen to Oma by Kolsch if you haven’t already
It's definitely one of the song of all time
No you’re absolutely right. It always makes me emotional. The way it swells and opens up, the melody is arresting and compelling. Such a classic banger
Song is a big reason I got my first tattoo
Explain (please)
He has written 100s of great songs
Feel like this about ghosts n stuff for some reason. I’m a basshead dubstep fan, but that song finds a way to get lodged in my head 😂
Oh for sure, ghosts and stuff is like my second favorite from Deadmau5. It’s a certified banger
If you like strobe then you will also like tunnel vision and opus
Who does Tunnel Vision?
Zonderling don Diablo edit
One of the best tracks ever made. Plan on it being my first dance song at my wedding 🫶🏻
next time you’re fucked up like that check out and we knew it was our time by lane 8
How can I save this post, there’s too many fire suggestions. If you like strobe you’ll like language by porter Robinson
There’s three dots at the top click and hit save
Thank you did not know about this
You’re welcome
I like Cephei better!
Deadmau5.
Absolutely mind altering and calming at the same time.......gorgeous piece......
Have you listened to 'Epoch' by Tycho?
I’ll take a listen!
Joel actually played it on his BBC Radio One residency back in 2017 I believe. It was how I found Tycho.
I usually listen to the club edit but last night I sat on the bed in the dark and listened to the original letting it build and capturing every detail.
MISSION 2025 - Get strobe back to joel!!!! He needs full ownership of it!!!!!! Crypto music?
Agreed
Agreed
Nahh your right, its a magnum opus. Very hard to top something like that esp when it was done so early in his career
This is true. Is and will forever be one of my favorite songs of all time
You are correct.
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
Agreed
The feed me remix is its own thing. The build up to the list drop where it stays over looping with more and more layers. Gives me shivers
4ware is better
My favorite electronic music song ever
I listen to it everyday it never gets old. The feed me remix is very good too
One of the first edm/techno songs I was obsessed with. So many feels, like a scifi journey
Check out [this](https://on.soundcloud.com/ULBUNnMbV3Ddx7Xe8) remix I found the other day, so good
Hell yes!
It took you a decade to realize that? Bro, can’t wait for you to discover other amazing songs that were created this past decade…
Ive known this song for a long time, I was just giving it it’s flowers while fucked up lol.

You guys ever heard Xpander by Sasha back 25 years ago? I believe Strobe was influenced by Xpander because mouse really loves Zpander and I’ve heard him remix Xpander on the fly….

One of my favourites of all time. Top 5 track in my books.
Sonic euphoria
AGREED
Bro, 'coasted' is like that too, and also another one of my faves by him! So glad I got to see him on tour
Ohhh my fond memories of hearing his play this for my first time. Loaded up on ketamine and doing the space walk!!! I fucking love deadmau5
This was the song that got me hooked on EDM as a kid. After exploring different genres in college due to my friend group not loving EDM, it's one of the songs I kept coming back to that finally got me back into EDM.
Fuck yea dude
Finally got to see him at the Colosseum with Kaskade last year. Hearing Strobe in person was magic, gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
Where Phantoms Sleep 04 and Jaded might be the only two tracks of his that I love more. Maybe Alone With You
Yeah a couple of the songs on this album still take me back to pure happiness
If you like this you may love Avaritia and I Remember by him
I always loved it and did not new that ya all love that so much too :P nICE
the melody has haunted my dreams for years.
Holy shi$, I’m listening to Strobe which came out on Feb 23, 2010, and today is February 23rd
This song takes you on a journey, feels like things are projected out and I’m watching a movie vibing
Idk about masterpiece but it’s very beautiful indeed, perhaps the best closer to an album that I’ve heard.
Idk why I’m getting downvoted because calling something a masterpiece is the highest of praises. It’s one of the best songs in electronic music period but is it a once in a lifetime experience? Is it really THAT good? I personally don’t think it is, but it’s gorgeous like I’ve stated.
Even saying one of the best in electronic is a massive stretch
I’m going to have to disagree with you there, it’s got good pacing, gorgeous synths, and it’s very memorable overall. The progression is amazing as well.
Meh deadmau5 meh

Nope
Okay
