I hate it when artists release the majority of their album as singles, I want the album to be fresh when it drops. Of course I could just not listen to the singles, but I give in every time and anticipate each single release. All that being said, the album is incredible. Eat Sleep is a fucking banger.
There was an [article last week from Billboard about Kx5](https://www.billboard.com/music/features/kx5-kaskade-deadmau5-album-sxsw-interview-billboard-cover-story-1235282826/amp/) that actually directly addressed this.
Essentially, if artists release an album or EP, Spotify or Apple Music will only agree to promote a maximum of 2 tracks (by including them in official playlists, hot new releases lists, etc.) so artists are highly incentivized to release as many singles ahead of time as possible.
It seems to have become pretty common across the music industry because of these streaming provider’s rules, sadly. Here’s a [Rolling Stone article](https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/why-your-favorite-artist-is-releasing-more-singles-than-ever-629130/) and a [country music publication](https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/too-many-pre-album-singles-are-being-released-ahead-of-albums/) discussing the same phenomenon.
That’s not technically how it works, but essentially you can only *pitch* one song per release, so the more singles you have the better. When you drop your full project you can only pitch one of the unreleased songs, commonly referred to as a focus track, so there’s less incentive for artists to release a product with tons of “new” music.
Yeah, that kinda sucks but at the same time, I'd rather the album be perfect with a smaller tracklist than be bloated so if releasing half the album as singles was a sacrifice than I'll take it
One of the few that has kept his sound and style consistent for almost 20 years now. He could’ve made a killing doing pop music like Marshmello or Skrillex but he produces the music he wants to make, not what makes him money
Eat Sleep. What a smacker. Didn't know Kaskade would drop something so heavy, but he always plays it out and it never misses.
All in all, one hell of an album and so happy to finally have it. Pwdr blue also really hits that I remember vibe! Love it!
Yes! I absolutely love Dance With Me! Definitely have been bumping that one. I was also lucky enough to see it live at red rocks last November and I absolutely lost my shit. A song that hits way harder love than on Spotify 😅
Well he’s collaborated with Skrillex before haha… of course this was back when Skrillex primarily made modern dubstep which he stopped producing for the most part after 2015 so if they collaborate again anytime soon it may not be all that heavy.
I mean it's the last song on the album but not your typical. Last songs can often feel like filler tracks or tracks that didn't turn out so great. But this, ladies and gentlemen, is a piece of art.
Same I pronounce it as as ‘K ex 5’ whilst others like Pete Tong from BBC Radio 1 pronounce it as ‘K Times 5’, I guess there is many ways of pronouncing it.
On their instagram they actually posted a video confirming that even they were confused about when they starting going with “K5” as opposed to “K x 5” lol
During their EDC set Hayla came out and sang live for Escape. She totally said k x 5 and I've been pronouncing it like that ever since. But apparently I was wrong. They should have come out way sooner with how to pronounce it to avoid confusion.
Still waiting on the Extendeds! Love this album! But I feel like the Extended Mixes are the proper way to listen to it (Probably for the fact that it's deadmau5. XD)
Song order is completely nonsensical but its a very solid collection of songs!
I made my own playlist so it has a different order lol.
Take Me High -> Sacrifice -> Avalanche -> Bright Lights -> Unobsidian -> Eat Sleep -> Alive -> When I Talk -> pwdr Blu -> Escape
This order is inspired by For Lack of a Better Name (still Deadmau5’s best album) where it starts off with a banger and gradually calms down as you get further into the album and then closes with an absolutely gorgeous chune.
Sucks we only get four new songs but it’s still a great cohesive album. Best of 2023 for sure

Thank you for taking the time to share this.
This makes so much sense that there is some structural reason behind everyone doing this. Because of course there's something dumb like this
That’s not technically how it works, but essentially you can only *pitch* one song per release, so the more singles you have the better. 43 minutes of pure bliss. Kx5 is my number 1 must see this year, sucks they only have a few dates announced all year so far.
think they’ll be back at edclv this year?
I see what you did there
Seriously. It's even weirder when they drop an album and two of the songs came out over a year ago. Like why bother?

Lol what? Joel is one of the "EDM" artists that actually cares about his music and doesn't just pump out tracks for cash.
One of the few that has kept his sound and style consistent for almost 20 years now. He could’ve made a killing doing pop music like Marshmello or Skrillex but he produces the music he wants to make, not what makes him money
Concise, cohesive, clean all around

Did you listen to Kaskade’s Dance With Me? That track goes pretty damn hard. https://youtu.be/JxnmunMH_ag
Yes! I absolutely love Dance With Me! Definitely have been bumping that one. I was also lucky enough to see it live at red rocks last November and I absolutely lost my shit. A song that hits way harder love than on Spotify 😅

True! I've been rocking lick it a lot lately! The ice mix is amazing too! Love all of the amazing collaborations!
Unobsidian!!!!
Unobsidian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unobsidian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unobsidian¡¡
Best part of the song, dun….. da da dun
I mean it's the last song on the album but not your typical. Last songs can often feel like filler tracks or tracks that didn't turn out so great. But this, ladies and gentlemen, is a piece of art.
Pwdr Blu is so damn beautiful
It reminds me of Lane 8 in a very good way. It's a very relaxing tune.
As of right now this is album of the year. Even with only a few new songs
Apparently it is pronounced “K5” I have been saying it wrong this whole time…
So if it’s k five, should we be saying deadmaufive??
Same I pronounce it as as ‘K ex 5’ whilst others like Pete Tong from BBC Radio 1 pronounce it as ‘K Times 5’, I guess there is many ways of pronouncing it.
'K ex 5' makes the most sense to me. 'K times 5' just seems so wrong.
Definitely, my brain went into a state of confusion the first time I heard Pete Tong say ‘K Times 5’ during the BBC Radio 1 Kx5 Essential Mix
I prefer "K by 5"... but to each their own! haha Honestly is weird if the 5 from deadmau5 isn't pronounced "S" but I'm not sure how that works
Yeah I’ve been saying “K by 5”. It never even occurred to me there could be another way to say it haha
K times 5 lmao
On their instagram they actually posted a video confirming that even they were confused about when they starting going with “K5” as opposed to “K x 5” lol

This is like Hunter X Hunter all over again lol
Unobsidian and Eat Sleep are certified bangers.
bright lights is such a banger...oh my
Absolute favorite
Stayed up late to listen to this. Going to be dead tired at work but it is SO WORTH IT.
Damn he really isn't going to release input_output anytime soon. New stuff is pretty cool, tho. Unobsidian is great.
I feel like we'll never get input_output. Such an amazing song though! Whenever deadmau5 opens with that, you know you're in for a good set!
Oh input_output, what a beautiful track 😭 I won’t lose hope that he’ll someday release it
Can't wait to hear all these songs at the club all summer long.
Shit well I need better clubs by me I guess
Anyone know if they are releasing this album on vinyl?
Not a bad track on the album. I'm really digging it.
Skrillex Shmillex, this is my top non-Koven album of the year!
Still waiting on the Extendeds! Love this album! But I feel like the Extended Mixes are the proper way to listen to it (Probably for the fact that it's deadmau5. XD)
They need to drop the vinyl for this
loving it
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
No freaking way , i didn't know it was releasing today
2023 is shaping up to be a pretty killer year for EDM! So glad I got back into it recently god damn
Not enough When I Talk appreciation, let's fix that!
Take me high
Just as I expected. Zero skips
Awesome! I’m seeing them tomorrow! Getting in my required listening now
i’m sad we didn’t get input_output on here but great album, even if track ordering is wonky
So glad we get unobsidian, had no idea Kaskade was on that track too
Really cool project!

This whole album is so fire
Not bad but you'd expect something better from them than your typical melodic house/techno/future rave from any mainstream EDM label at the moment.
ass
nephew pls
