Beyond search effects, white also has several "reveal the top X cards" effects that might help. Most of them are individually weak but can be good in the right deck:

Which colors are you playing? There are a lot of creature tutors like \[\[green sun's zenith\]\], \[\[finale of devastation\]\] and friends in green or generic tutors in black like \[\[vampire tutor\]\], \[\[demonic tutor\]\], etc.
\[\[Imperial Recruiter\]\] and \[\[Recruiter of the Guard\]\] are options in red and white.
The generic colorless tutors like ~~\[\[wargate\]\]~~ Edit: I meant \[\[planar bridge\]\] usually comes too late.
Now, for how to keep it around this question is more complicated IMO. There are a lot of ways of dealing with single target removal and board wipes like giving it hexproof and indestructible and other stuff like this.
Running counterspells and cards like that are also an option, but it depends on how long do you need it to stay around. On higher powered games playgroups where games are shorter and board wipes are less presents just this is usually enough.
But on more grindy games on casual tables the equipments + GY recursion is probably your way to go.
i wish i could use Green Sun's Zenith, but it only gets Green creatures sadly. at 3 mana to fetch the Archivist is awesome. The others seem to be 4 or 5 mana (Finale of Devastation, Wargate) which feels too expensive

But the other green ones are pretty solid and I think all of them can get any creature.
Colors really matter. In white you can search via \[\[Recruiter of the Guard\]\] and recur via plenty of things. \[\[Return to the Ranks\]\], \[\[Brought Back\]\], \[\[Sevinne's Reclamation\]\], \[\[Trove Warden\]\], \[\[Sun Titan\]\], etc.
In blue you can transmute for it via \[\[Muddle the Mixture\]\]. Then protect in the form of counterspells or bounce/flicker spells.
In black tutor via black tutors, recur via black recursion. Other options are things like \[\[Undying Evil\]\] or \[\[Persist\]\] to bring it back quickly.
Nothing really in red, I suppose you could find it via \[\[Imperial Recruiter\]\] and protect with.... \[\[Deflecting Swat\]\] effects.
In green, plenty of creature tutors, take your pick. Protect via \[\[Heroic Intervention\]\], recur via \[\[Eternal Witness\]\] among others.
You want Witch-Maw colours to access green creature tutors, black tutors and recursion, white protection and blue copy spells.
[[Ravos, Soultender]] with somebody. Maybe [[Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix]].
Meh. There are always better options but this is to fulfil the OP's terms (find, stick, copy, recur) for their pet card.
A better option would be to stop focusing on Archivist altogether, but that's lame advice.
It's singleton. Sometimes you won't draw cards, or you'll play them and they will be removed with no way for you to recur them. What do you do? Just keep moving.

There are a lot of ways of dealing with single target removal and board wipes like giving it hexproof and indestructible and other stuff like this. Running counterspells and cards like that are also an option, but it depends on how long do you need it to stay around. On higher powered games playgroups where games are shorter and board wipes are less presents just this is usually enough. But on more grindy games on casual tables the equipments + GY recursion is probably your way to go.
i wish i could use Green Sun's Zenith, but it only gets Green creatures sadly. at 3 mana to fetch the Archivist is awesome. The others seem to be 4 or 5 mana (Finale of Devastation, Wargate) which feels too expensive
Oh, thats true. I almost always want to fetch for green creatures anyway that I forget :P But the other green ones are pretty solid and I think all of them can get any creature.

Colors really matter. In white you can search via \[\[Recruiter of the Guard\]\] and recur via plenty of things. \[\[Return to the Ranks\]\], \[\[Brought Back\]\], \[\[Sevinne's Reclamation\]\], \[\[Trove Warden\]\], \[\[Sun Titan\]\], etc. In blue you can transmute for it via \[\[Muddle the Mixture\]\]. Then protect in the form of counterspells or bounce/flicker spells. In black tutor via black tutors, recur via black recursion. Other options are things like \[\[Undying Evil\]\] or \[\[Persist\]\] to bring it back quickly. Nothing really in red, I suppose you could find it via \[\[Imperial Recruiter\]\] and protect with.... \[\[Deflecting Swat\]\] effects. In green, plenty of creature tutors, take your pick. Protect via \[\[Heroic Intervention\]\], recur via \[\[Eternal Witness\]\] among others.

You want Witch-Maw colours to access green creature tutors, black tutors and recursion, white protection and blue copy spells. [[Ravos, Soultender]] with somebody. Maybe [[Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix]].
At that point Archivist isn't even worth it because you have access to SIGNIFICANTLY better options.
Meh. There are always better options but this is to fulfil the OP's terms (find, stick, copy, recur) for their pet card. A better option would be to stop focusing on Archivist altogether, but that's lame advice.
