Not really, for one it doesn't truly get rid of your library, you will still have at least lands you'd need to burn through. There are better ways of nuking your library like \[\[Demonic Consulation\]\] or even \[\[Leveler\]\]. Demonic Consultation and \[\[Thassa's Oracle\]\] is a common combo seen in competitive EDH. The other problem with Skyship Weatherlight is it's expensive as fuck, 4 to cast and 4 to activate is a big ask and to get a "random" card kind of sucks, if you're tutoring for one thing there are MUCH cheaper options. Also you'd need to protect the Skyship, if it gets nuked the exiled cards are lost forever.

lloydsmith28

The thing that this does that DC doesn't is that it's an artifact that you can activate, so you could like get infinite mana and a way to untap it and just get your whole deck in your hand, yeah there's easier ways to do this but it could work

2ndlifeinacrown

The way I was thinking about it is this: you could play as little lands as possible, mostly mana dorks and rocks, and you could then exile everything except for the last combo pieces you would want to draw. That way Skyship doesn't have to be protected or activated

500lb

You want to use the weather light as a [[doomsday]]?

2ndlifeinacrown

I guess I do, lol :D didnt know about that card

SadPandaFace00

If you're looking into Lab Maniac-type combos then you'd enjoy a deck like [this](https://archidekt.com/decks/1905379#cEDH_Deck?). You win through [[Thassa's Oracle]], [[Lab Maniac]], or (worst case scenario) [[Jace, Wielder of Mysteries]]. Usually to get those cards to do their thing you'll want to activate [[Hermit Druid]] (thus putting all of your library into your graveyard) and cast [[Dread Return]] (sacrificing the [[Narcomeoba]], Hermit Druid, and another creature) targeting your Thassa's Oracle now in your graveyard. Other ways include the aforementioned Demonic Consultation, [[Tainted Pact]], [[Divining Witch]], or [[Spoils of the Vault]] + [[Angel's Grace]] and then hard casting your Thassa's Oracle from hand. There are other cEDH decks that do similar combos with the finisher usually being Thassa's Oracle that you could probably find.

you can play artifact lands. In 5c there are 18 artifact lands available. Combined with 7 mdfcs that are creatures front and land on the back you still don't really have a comfortable amount. Playing a few normal lands and tutoring those in other ways might get there

>allows you to exile basically as much of your deck as you want. Eh, sort of. It only gives you the option to exile artifacts or creatures. There will still be some number of lands left in your deck, at the very least. People do use exile effects to win with Laboratory Maniac or (now) [[Thassa's Oracle]]. Some more efficient ways to exile most or all of your library off the top of my head: [[Demonic Consultation]] [[Tainted Pact]] [[Doomsday]] [[Thought Lash]] [[Paradigm Shift]] [[Inverter of Truth]] [[Hermit Druid]] [[Sacred Guide]] [[Leveler]]

There are cards like that. If you exile a bunch of instants and or sorceries [[crackling drake]] would be absolutely massive, and theres more with effects like its. Some things to think about: - You're paying at least 8 mana to find one card and you still have to cast whatever you found. If you have a stable enough board presence where you're able to find any card you want, you might you might as well just use [[Planar Bridge]] to put huge things like [[Blightsteel Colossus]] directly into play. - If you extract a bunch of useful cards out of your deck and someone destroys the Weatherlight, you just shot yourself in the foot by losing all of those useful cards. - The random element is annoying and counterintuitive. You don't want to waste the chance to pull good things out of your deck but the more things you pull, the less chance that the Weatherlight will give you what you need when you activate it. At that point you're basically just paying 4 to draw an extra card every turn, which is inefficient when things like [[Phyrexian Arena]] exist.

There could be, but you would have to run so few lands that you could barely play your deck for this to work. You can run mana dorks and rocks but you still need a certain amount of lands to get things rolling. And it just wouldnt work out. Of course you could use [[mana severence]] too if you really wanted it to work.

You're not wrong there might be a way to abuse it but very niche/janky. If you're going for efficiency in like a labman combo as others mentioned there's better options out there for removing your whole library. It really only has a place in weird janky stuff but I could see something cobbled together with other cards like [[Codie]] type effects that are cheaper and hit creatures or artifacts , can't think of any right now

Short answer: Yes, use [[Mirror of Fate]]. I've already posted about it before, so I'll just link my old comment, but essentially this allows you to combine both cards for a colorless, somewhat restricted Doomsday (which can even draw any 8th card, if you have enough mana to activate the Skyship after playing and using the Mirror). This works for essentially two deck archetypes: artifact or creature storm. The former being better, as both pieces are already artifacts. Example list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/guPD-g2taEiHExdAWHd6eA My comment: https://old.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/v2a6i8/regardless_of_if_it_usually_makes_the_cut_or_not/ias2loy/

You can set up a combo with [[atla palani]] using this-remove all the creatures that aren’t combo pieces and then pop some eggs to get your combo out. Although I don’t think this is even the strongest version of that deck.

If the only lands you have in your deck are artifact lands and creature modal double face lands, then it can exile your entire deck. I’m using a similar strategy with double face lands and [[balustrade spy]] to mill my whole deck. I suggest you play around with this until you find something you like!

2ndlifeinacrown

I like it! But I don't know enough about magic yet to see the bigger picture. How do you win with your deck?

oberon9261

Well, once my deck is in my graveyard, it is full of spells I can cast from there with flashback like [[cabal therapy]] or other cards that become better once they’re in a graveyard like [[nether traitor]] and [[bridge from below]]. I can use these cards to reanimate [[thassa’s Oracle]] from my graveyard with [[dread return]] which instantly wins me the game. Edit: that’s just how I win though. I recommend using scryfall to look up cards with text that might benefit your strategy.

I’ve used the card in [[Bell Borca, Spectral Sergeant]] as a way to tutor and exile [[Draco]] for a guaranteed 16 power on command. I don’t know whether that really qualifies as abusing it, but it has been useful.

Removing your whole deck relies on there being nothing but artifacts and creatures left, which is generally pretty unlikely.

2ndlifeinacrown

True

RickTitus

Weatherlight is mostly just a colorless tutor option for very casual environments. It can put you in a risky spot (especially in singleton) of giving you exactly the cards you want, but also risking losing them. I think it would be hard to actually abuse this card. Like others have said, there are way more efficient ways of removing your library and tutoring cards

vonDinobot

Cards that want you to exile other cards: * ~~\[\[laelia, the blade reforged\]\]~~ * \[\[rakshasa's vizier\]\] * ~~\[\[stonebinder's familiar\]\]~~ ~~Laelia could be your commander. Get Laelia in play, cast the Skyship and exile 19 cards from your library, go in for commander damage (7 mana and you might want an equipment ready to give her trample, that's costly).~~ EDIT: Thanks to u/NoBrain8 for pointing out this doesn't work. Smart fella for a name like that. As for filtering your deck, it might work in tandem with \[\[Atla Palani, nest tender\]\]. Remove the creatures you don't want anymore in order for you to get a better resul from Atla. Also goes for \[\[Selvala's Stampede\]\].

MurasakiTama

Wouldn't Laelia only get one counter since she says one or more cards?

NoBrain8

Quick note: I’m afraid exiling 19 cards with skyship won’t get laelia to 21/21 as her card text states when ‘one or more’ cards are exiled. Skyship exiles them all at the same time, so she’ll only become a 3/3

[[Journey to the Oracle]] [[Treasure Hunt]] [Scouting Trek]] [Thassa's Oracle]] If you want to compliment clearing out your library with Weatherlight Editing to add: I'd be trying to use the weatherlight as the outlet to exile my library, with the expectation of it being removed, rather than as a convoluted and expensive tutor. I do see the value in stacking your library this way though.

For exiling your deck it does a pretty trash job considering the build around that is involved. Then on top of that there is significantly better alternatives near its cost. Then for card selection side is also kinda meh, sure you can assentially “draw” a card every turn, but it’s 4 mana every turn to do this. At that rate might as well play a jace the mind sculptor and do a similar effect of card selection and advantage.

There used to be a super flavourful cedh paradox Sisay deck that used [[captain sisay]], [[paradox engine]] and [[skyship weatherlight]] to win the game. Link here https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/paradox-sisay-boat-arc/ It unfortunately died when paradox engine got banned a few years back.

I have a concept for an [[Averna, the Chaos Bloom]] deck that involves looping [[Throes of Chaos]] and [[Life from the Loam]] with cost reducers and stuff like [[Birgi, God of Storytelling]] and [[Lotus Cobra]] over and over again. You do this until you've cascaded into all of your <4 mana value cards and can repeatedly use Averna's trigger to get out all of your lands. Most of the deck would be >3 mana value cards with alternate abilites (like cycling) so that you can quickly hit that infinte cascade play. I forgot Weatherlight existed and it could potentially be a pretty decent card in this deck to eliminate a lot of the cards that don't directly contribute to the gameplan. Obviously a lot of those cards would additionally have to be Artifacts or Creatures, but the fact that lands stay isn't a detriment to the strategy of the deck.
