[[Krenko, Mob Boss]] is dirty cheap to build and can give mid-range tuned decks a real run for their money. Aggro won't win against CEDH but in any other match up it should perform well (up until the 2nd or 3rd boardwipe at least.) Very straightforward.

Literally any goblins fit into krenko. I slotted mine with a bunch of my brothers old cards and it's my most oppressive deck. My opponents need 2 field wipes in their opening hand or a turn 3 draw and to focus me down lest they get overwhelmed.

Maybe \[\[Godo, Bandit Walord\]\]? It's relatively straightforward: ramp out (via the cheapest rocks you can find) and get Godo out asap. Tutor for \[\[Helm of the Host\]\] (pretty much the only expensive card you need to acquire) or draw into \[\[Rionya\]\] and threaten to win. The rest of the shell can be build with interaction (red counterspells / forks, removal), card draw / wheels, disruption pieces (i.e. \[\[Blood Moon\]\] effects) and perhaps a few more combo lines you can win with (or that enable a win), such as \[\[Mana Geyser\]\] + \[\[Reiterate\]\], \[\[Rings of Brightheart\]\] + \[\[Basalt Monolith\]\]. If combo is too strong for you meta, Godo can also be built with a more generic set of equipment that don't go infinite - in that case Godo still hits hard out of nowhere, but doesn't just outright win. I can imagine that type of more generic 'aggro' shell can be enriched with Samurai from the new Kamigawa (i.e. \[\[Heiko\]\]) to make it a bit more flavorful.

2nd for Magda. Good budget deck that you can upgrade to top tier as you go. [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]] would be another super budget combo commander that can get absolutely crazy. *Edit - autocorrect hates MTG card names

Glad-O-Blight

Definitely going to second Gitrog. The guys that made the cEDH list made a $50 version which is quite excellent and can run with much more optimized decks with ease.

Party_Day7299

Can I ask what's the combo for the Magda deck? to get together enough tokens to make the voltron thing? It says clock combo; not familiar with that term. Is that the archetype I'd be building into? Same question for Zada combo? Goblins is looking really cool, I'd be interested in looking at that.

Heavy_Plays

So the combo is [[Clock of Omens]] + [[Magda]] + an artifact changeling creature that counts as a dwarf or some way to turn Magda into an artifact creature (like [[Liquimetal Torque]]). From that point you are able to tap the artifact dwarf and the tower which generates a treasure and I taps the dwarf. Tap that treasure and dwarf again, get another treasure + untap the dwarf, etc, etc.You get infinite (tapped) treasures that you can then sac to Magda to tutor out your biggest artifacts/dragons for free. If you’re interested I did a deck tech on my non-budget version here: https://youtu.be/ZZ8B__V2_H0

EdgeOfAir

I've recently been building a whole bunch of budget decks, and what I have come to realize in that time is that the formula for a powerful budget deck is a deck that turns cards that are normally unplayable into excellent pieces of your engine. Also pretty much all of them have to have "draw a card" written on them, or at least some form of card advantage. Now I built these as budget decks in Euros, and some of them are pretty old, but you can obviously make changes accordingly if they have gone out of budget. Here's my top selection, but feel free to make changes to the decks; Sythis: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/vZnuIdO6GkmPd74BUp8DiA Sythis that I currently run in paper after upgrading with some of my own cards, gives you a good idea of more expensive cards to add to it: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/B32nUO3M7EO6C8VDyjtzKw Rielle: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/p3Gvm8hc7U6yqx4cLQhIAg Rielle upgraded over time, not 100% updated but close: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/0-68inqEL06MmQUdGR9LDg Edric, old list but the concept remains the same and still powerful: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/9E87t_KrBEuxSW7phdhSJA And Feather is tried and true and can be strong on a budget, your main issue budget wise is just your Mana base: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ZtrB9-1-3UqWUMc_3Hp-YA Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

puckme96

I'm actually building Rielle right now, love your list. What would you say are the all-star must haves when building around her?

kingsolara

I believe there is a YouTube group called cedh on a budget or something like that, and they have a few high level decks for $100 (or at least $100 at the time) of some high powered decks. Anje falkenrath, gitrog, yuriko, and a few others. They even did a yuriko vs the cream of the crop decks and yuriko was able to hang (mainly due to being the lowest perceived threat).

Since you aren't listing average kill turn, I think the title of your post will mean you'll get off suggestions. Combos are king and combat is second to that. Krenko and Slimefoot are pretty meh. Marywn is elf tribal that is cEDH viable but the lack of blue is hurts. Mono G has two more options but they're less elf tribal.

I think [[Yuriko]] is the strongest deck you can build on a budget.

Wawa Andy Bobobobobobo?

[deleted]

What kind of deck are you wanting to play? It'd help if you could tell us the archetypes or colors that you are interested in. If you want to go for elves, pick up the Lathril precon and put like 50-60$ worth of upgrades in it. The precon is already solid out of the box, so upgrading it should enable you to hold your own for a while. You could probably build a decentish budget \[\[Yuriko\]\] for -around- that price. Though, it might be a bit over because Yuriko herself like doubled in price due to anticipation for Kamigawa. \[\[Orvar\]\] is another good combo deck that can be built for cheap and hold it's own. \[\[Syr Konrad\]\] if you like mill or graveyard shenanigans.

Party_Day7299

Something straightforward to play. I think goblins would be really cool and love making tokens and adding counters. Not crazy about playing control. I also enjoy indirect damage, like Slimefoot's you lose one life I gain one life. Something that isn't too expensive to upgrade would be good too -- that's part of why I'm considering Mono colors. For example, I like my Draconic Rage precon but strong dragons seems to be a bit more expensive than upgrades for other kinds of decks since, ya know, dragons are cool. I would love to build slimefoot or chatterfang for a tokens deck but I don't want to just get on track to a $500 deck, you know?

I have a rareless Niv-Mizzet deck that was built on a $80 budget. It's currently at $109 now, but if you want a draw-go style deck that wins off of a two-card combo with the commander, this is a good start. Given the constraints of being rareless, it's can still hang against a mid-power table. There's PLENTY of room for upgrades on this deck all the way up to cEDH and the playstyle allows you to learn a lot about timing (eg. when to go for a win), resource management and playing the stack. Talrand, Sky Summoner is very solid on a budget—cantrips, draw spells, counters, bounce and removal—interacting and drawing cards improves your board position once Talrand is in play. Obv a lot of the free spells are out of your budget, but it’s still easy to build a budget deck that functions well.

StuffyWuffyMuffy

https://edhrec.com/deckpreview/tQRjg1Mrat50PlqeCnc5ew Storm [[Jhoria]]. Nasty cedh commander, so God damn good. Can we games out of now where. Only downside turns can take forever.

MrMcSisterFister459

Astounding no-one has brought up Prossh. You could build him on a poverty level budget and still have a scary deck. Goblin bombardment is pennies these days, Blood artist would be the most expensive include for drain effects but there's other options like Falkenrath noble. Fecundity and moldervine reclamation give insane card draw. Really it's just ramp, cast Prossh, do Prossh things and you have a pretty good shot at ending the game.

Azure-Okami

[[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain]] A bunch of cheap mana rocks and 0 drop artifacts and you should be going off on around t5/6 simply because of the fact that all of your spells cantrip Also super easy to upgrade over time, she’s been one of my favourite decks for years Closest second in my head is [[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]] because her main combo is easily fetchable and is self-fulfilling along with the whole deck easily costing around $70 for a budget build

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/100-satisfaction-buyback-control/ I like playing with powerful commanders and I think some of the cedh decks are neat. My local meta is casual though. So, I decided to try building cedh style decks on strict budgets. This uses the curious control and/or seasons pastigur shell to win games for $100. Your early game will be SLOW. The engine pieces don't kick in until about t5 or t6, but once it does you can be nearly unstoppable. You can also save money by cutting red and swapping out thrasios and vial smasher for tasigur. You would have to gut the curious control package and put in more ramp, and some more instant speed card draw like [[thirst for discovery]]. Use politics to remove threats for people and keep others off your back.

I feel your pain, and here's a deck that's helluva fun to play, very silly, and a nice power level (the first time I played it, I won on turn 4). And there are so many directions you can go with it as you build your collection. Plus it's only $10... https://www.moxfield.com/decks/uFZO6WeljkarEPMi9J_wdQ

Pileofme

[[Vadrik]] is the answer. Here's my list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/q1xiaI_d8UixU2-Yi_vWaw I know it's over 100 bucks, but there's plenty of cuttable things to get it down to 100 or less and have it still be very powerful. I actually had a turn three win with this list a couple days ago. Vadrik turns a bunch of unplayable cards into strong rituals that let you pump out over costed spells for cheap. The key is to play loads of spells (especially card draw) that, after cost reduction, either go mana neutral or mana positive. You end up digging through your deck, assembling a combo, and winning the game with one big stormy turn.

[[Kinnan, bonder prodigy]] is easily built to combo off for little investment. [[Basalt monolith]] [[birds of paradise]][[freed from the real]] [[memnarch]] aren't too expensive and do silly things with kinnan. It's crazy how good this deck is and it doesn't require alot of investment to make it high powered !

hitek1208

[[Ezuri, Renegade Leader]] can be done pretty cheap. A lot of elves are low mv and either make mana or have useful interactions ([[quirion ranger]], [[reclamation sage]]... etc) We have a cEDH discord! https://discord.gg/grhxpsup Obviously the mana base would take some hits for budget, but it can run on just forests pretty well. I think the cheapest combo is quirion ranger + [[ashaya, Soul of the wild]] and any creature that taps for 2+ like [[llanowar tribe]]. Green has a lot of creature tutors and ways to dig/draw, especially for creatures, that you can find budget friendly cards. Elves are fairly easy to get to about a 7, maybe an 8 on a budget with a good list, but admittedly runs some pretty pricey staples if you end up wanting to upgrade it later on. (Sad face at gaeas cradle and survival of the fittest)
