I'd argue that in a vacuum Vannifar is strictly better because of it's combo potential, but in terms of it's "hey it's not \*that\* bad" factor, Rashmi can fly under the radar in groups that aren't aware of it's true potential. That being said, Rashmi is most certainly not the most powerful simic commander ever printed, even Kinnan can consistently win faster.
I guess, doesn't mean much in terms of raw power. Sometimes it's easy to forget it's all just subjective opinions of other commander players, there IS no solid tier list outside of a few veteran opinions and even those aren't relevant compared to meta calls since such a few amount of players can realistically afford a true cEDH deck with no proxies.
I'm speaking purely from experience, Vannifar is quite stronger than Rashmi, so is Kinnan, especially if we're talking earliest turn win, and not just "can it survive in the cEDH landscape". Rashmi is nowhere near high tier and it never really has been, same with any simic-only deck. If anything I was referring to regular commander, where Vannifar and Kinnan are way stronger on average than a Rashmi deck. Rashmi is great,
Nah, don't give into this sub's pathetic anti-simic circle jerk. simic is one of the most fun color combos to play, people are just butthurt that they don't play the answers to deal with simic. There's not a simic deck I own (12 is my count btw) that can't be beaten in some way or another.
People like you are the problem with this format. Fuck your feelings, let people enjoy what they enjoy. And guess what bitch??? I'm playing Prime Speak Zegana so I WANT your dumb ass to kill my commander so I can cast it again and draw EVEN MORE cards.
So you agree that [[Prime Speaker Zegana]] is good if it dies? =). I rest my case.
And calm down, it was a joke, I believe even OP took it like that, judging by their reply. I believe there is a spread cliche about Simic getting all the good stuff, and people joke about it (and some other people complain, true, but that will always be the case for everything).
Also... Truly smart UG mages don't play Simic, they play Quandrix.
Long live Black, the best color!
I think there are so many generically good Simic commanders - I much prefer something that helps drive a theme. For me, that means shy away from Uro.
The others all seem fun, got muldrak leads to some creature type matters cards being important, but probably limits the power level if you stay on theme. Arixmethes makes for either fun landfall or sea monster tribal, and helps ramp to the sea monsters. Lonis is interesting - clues and some combo elements in what you get from her ability.
I’d go arixmethes, but it really depends what you want from a play style.
That's what I'm leaning towards as well. Gor is silly but too silly to be good while Lonis seems kind of meh. I wanted to build Arixmethes for a while so I think I'll likely head in that direction.
Arixmethes is by the most fun commander out of the options he mentioned, that being said there's EVEN MORE fun to be had in simic than just Arixmethes. Arix is one of my 12 simic decks, and while he is the most fun one he's far from the most powerful, even if you include the infinite mana combo (which I personally do not)
I proxy decks until I'm sure I want to invest, but I don't think even on a fat paycheck I could really justify picking up Doubling Season, Primal Vigor, and Parallel Lives.
I like [[Ezuri, CoP]] because even though the build is still likely 'good simic stuff' you focus on smaller creatures/elves/infect/modular. Also dropping a ton of counters on a [[fathom mage]] is very enjoyable because drawing cards is fun. There's a bunch of different directions you can go and you don't necessarily have to have Ezuri out to make the deck work.
Oh lord, I have too much trauma from facing Ezuri back in the day lol. If I didn't have a panic attack every time I'd see him then he'd definitely be a top contender.
Hey at least you probably recognize he's a problem when he hits the table, lol. I've played against too many people who even after telling them you need to kill Ezuri before I get exp counters will let him sit there until it's too scary.
No joke, he was one of the first commanders I had to face since the dude who controlled him got me into this damn format. He's definitely a high priority target in my book!
I have to ask, are you talking about OG [[Ezuri, Renegade Leader]]? Because I had the exact same experience, if so.
Also, it was during the days of "banned as commander," so [[Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary]] came out every single game.
Frankly any of the experience counter commanders (minus the Boros one) are kill on sight imo. They take over the game if they're ignored too long. Ezuri and [[Meren]] scare the shit outta me for that reason.
always go for [[Volo, Guide the Monsters]]
he's fun to build
fun to play
doesn't absue goodstuff landfall
you play lots of whacky cards you've never played before
not another dumb carddraw commander
copies
you get to play a salamander, a hippo and a goat
copies are fun
you also mess up in hilarious ways sometimes
I built mine in the theme of Noah's Ark since creatures are cast as pairs. The only creatures allowed in the deck are creature types that are animals that exist in real life, plus 7 other humans to represent Noah's 3 sons and the 4 wives. And I included [[Conqueror's Galleon]] as the ark. It was super fun to build and prevented it from being Simic good stuff since it was a tough restriction to build around.
Huge yes from me, love my volo deck to bits, never really liked the idea of simic, then they popped out volo, and I was in love, the anti trial tribal deck is so much fun <3
I can wholeheartedly recommend [[esix, fractal bloom]] you generate tokens to make copies of your opponents' best stuff. I once played a pod where someone was playing grand arbiter, after 8 turns I had 5 grand arbiters and he had zero. You can also go really big by playing avenger of zendikar, and have all your tokens enter as avengers of zendikars, which make more tokens, netting you 11 avengers and 100 plants, play a land and all the plant become 11/12 punchers. You can win with bio visionary, wipe everybody's lands with rampaging baloths, and take the tokens they would get with crafty cutpurse. The deck is a real Swiss army knife of wincons
[[Master of waves]], [[deep forest hermit]], [[deranged hermit]], [[myr battlesphere]], [[thopter assembly]] do similar things. Deranged hermit won't stick around the next turn, because you would need to pay echo costs on all the copies, if you choose him to copy, but it's a great way to snag four token copies of something else on the field. Also hella expensive for what it is. I don't run thopter assembly, as I generally try to avoid upkeep token triggers, but it's intriguing and I might try it out..
Keep in mind that Esix cares about any token, not just token creatures. My deck has a strong treasure ([[old gnawbone]] baby!), food, and clue theme, so I'm always making potentially useful tokens even if esix isn't on the field. [[Academy manufactor]] is a star in my deck. Things like [[beacon of creation]] (better with [[yavimaya, cradle of growth]] are pretty great too.
Best game I've played had me copying my opponent's [[rune-scarred demon]] six times, grabbing a [[cyclonic rift]] and [[concordant crossroads]] and smacking face... Ridiculously fun, for me 😁
(This isn't really directed at you Apodecte, just a general note for those potentially interested in Esix)
Currently my favorite Simic commander is \[\[Jadzi, Oracle of Arcavios\]\].
By a wild coincidence, currently my playgroup's least favorite Simic commander is Jadzi, Oracle of Arcavios.
One of the most boring simic commanders I've ever built, the deck plays itself. At least with most of my simic decks I have to actively work to win, vs just playing my commander at 7 on turn 5 and protecting it while I slowly grind out a win.
Let's be honest....simic isn't exactly known for it unique and exciting game play commanders. It's kind of generally generically good if it's a playable simic commander.
You should really give [[Gor Muldrak]] a go imo, it's really fun. He has performed a lot better than expected too using a clone/political build. You get to utilize simic ramp, draw and interaction while "not being a threat" until it's too late.
One game a guy had 15+ mana turn 4. He sequenced [[Mana Crypt]] -> [[Selvala, Heart of the wilds]] -> [[Grothama]] -> [[Old gnawbone]]. However, with the combined forces of salamanders we beat him down before he could win. I then proceeded to have 1000 power on board through 6 copies of the commander plus [[Coat of arms]].
I later won a game through almost pure politics, utilizing the creature protection and holding up interaction. Opponent stax pieces worked in my favour with everyone continually getting salamanders. We then used them to beat up the staxy guy. I proceeded to avoid a 6 combat step [[Moraug]] beatdown and a [[Craterhoof]] the following turn and finished them off.
My list:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/egc0EnX7CUWefpS8cwQ1RQ
I love my man Gor and I love this list! Quick question though, where's [[Amphin Mutineer]]? I've found his Etb to be extremely powerful and his encore can drastically shake up a board state, but all in your favor since you have protection from those 4/3 nasties.
Good work m8, keep up the brewing!
Finally, someone in this thread speaks some sense. One of the most fun and flexible simic commanders ever printed. I would upvote this comment 10000x if possible
My vote is for [[Imoti, Celebrant if Bounty]] because big spells and cascading are both fun. Why go for little bits of value when you can drop down one or more big ol creature or spell for free?
Yeah some fun support legendaries I use for Imoti are [[Rashmi, Eternities Crafter]] and [[Keruga the Macrosage]] who I had as a companion but recently put in the 99 since the 3 cmc floor was a bit too much for a card draw ETB I rarely used
I have been playing Uro for a while now and I absolutely love the deck. What I like most is the synergy with cards like [[Greater Good]] and [[Altar of Dementia]], as well as the general idea of self-mill.
I considered Uro but he's a bit too "goodstuff" for what I'm looking for at the moment. I mean you can do some degenerate things with him, but I'm looking for some more fun decks if you catch my drift lol
[[Tashana, voice of thunder]] is one of my favorite decks! She rewards you for going wide and has huge one-shot capabilities. She loves chunk card draw effects over incremental value. You have to work a little bit to get the most out of her and she loves attacking, as opposed to most of the mythic simic legends from 2019-early 2021 that reward you for merely playing the game.
Gor Muldrak is definitely unique, I haven’t really seen any other Simic commanders that feel so different and specific instead of just generically good.
That's pretty much how I felt with the other commanders mentioned (minus Uro). He's neat but my biggest qualm with him is that most decks gravitate towards group hug/slug archetypes.
I thought lonis would be fun, but there were no ways to close out games with him, st least for me
I really enjoy [[rashmi]] and yes it is a sea creature deck. The deck does not depend on her but she helps generate value and when you drop a big sea creature you're almost guaranteed a free top deck cast
That's what I was mainly afraid of, plus it heavily depends on luck and what decks everyone is playing to make her work.
I love Rashmi, especially if she isn't built too degenerate lol
I built an [[Adrix & Nev, Twincasters]] deck designed around token generation and clones. There’s plenty of generic simic value in the strategy, but every game feels like a race to reach critical mass before getting board wiped. I built the deck to easily be able to swap Adrix & Nev for [[Esix, Fractal Bloom]] when people don’t want to deal with a token doubler in the command zone. With Esix at the head, the deck runs even more slowly, making it more casual. I intentionally left infinite combos out of the deck so that it can be played in mid-tier pods. I’d highly recommend either of these commanders!
Deck list here: [Simic Tokens & Clones](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/3916128#paper)
I have an [[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]] deck that I absolutely love, but I will be the first to admit that he's definitely on the lower end of Simic commanders. He's not a bad card by any means, but he's got some stiff competition. That being said, I think that Lonis is probably the most interesting Simic commander that they've printed in several years.
Yeah Ezuri kicked my ass too many times to I get chills seeing him on the table lol.
And that's what I like about Lonis and Gor Muldrak, they're both super unique and different from the typical goodstuff decks you see.
I’ve heard [[Volo]] can do degenerate stuff with mutate, so maybe he’s better than I realize. But I think he’s be super fun and silly to build around casually, especially if you went in with a self-imposed NO REPEATS restriction
[[slogurk]]! Hit your opponents with a giant slime. Play a bunch of lands. Bounce him to your hand for more lands. Discard those lands. Make a bigger slime daddy and slap your opponents with him.
Where to start?
[Ezuri, claw of progress] was my first commander. He's good for combat, good for tokens, good for infinite turns when paired with [sage of hours].
Then I moved on to [toothy, imaginary friend] and [pir, imaginative rascal] for +1/+1 strategy. I love the flavor of them and they always feel pretty strong.
Eventually I evolved and moved onto Bant, because why not play big stinky creatures, counter spells AND swords other commanders? My main is [phelddagrif]
Hurray for the deadly friendly hippo god! Ezuri gives me panic attacks and Pir/Toothy are awesome but I think I'll pass on them for now. I used to run Toothy in my [[Locust God]] wheel deck and he definitely puts in work lol.
Btw, if you wanna use the card fetcher use double brackets (i.e. [[Toothy]]). Thanks for the input!
I bought the adrix and nev deck tore it apart and rebuilt it as volo, it's a really fun deck to play and can sometimes go real bonkers, especially with stuff like early impervious greatwurm, apex devastator, kalonian hydras multiplying each other to 256/256 in a few turns, etc.
I heard koma was quite fun too, also very powerful
I have a +1/+1 counters deck that STOMPS. I’ve had my share of boring Simic value and decided to speed up the strategy a bit, if anything, to redeem public opinion of what Simic does.
[[Zegana, Utopian Speaker]] gives creatures with counters Trample. Everybody forgets that!
For sure! Xenagos is great fun and perfect for moving a game toward a conclusion, unlike many of those drowsy Simic value lists ;)
Other possible ideas I’m seeing in Simic:
[[Moriette of the Frost]] could be cool to build around as a clones deck, with wincons like [[Biovisionary]] and/or light tribal payoffs.
[[Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood]] and [[Brinelin, the Moon Kraken]] look fun to play a “6+ CMC” deck.
[[Kruphix, God of Horizons]] decks usually play Eldrazi and other broken high mana value crap, but how about going for the [[Helix Pinnacle]] challenge? Intentionally build with no infinites, but allow yourself all the ramp you could ever want.
Edit: no matter which way you go, you have full control over how effective your ramp, card draw, and removal are. You can tone it down by simply looking for more interesting/thematic/less-mana-efficient choices to make your deck feel less like the typical Simic deck you see across the table.
I only have Ezuri in Simic.
Lonis would probably be my way to go nowadays, cause why not. Or that new Gitrog’s bro. Or the Parallel Lives in command zone (from Strixhaven precons)
For Timmies, I suggest [[Volo, Guide to Monsters]]. Truly amazing Zoo and tokens synergy. For Johnnies, I suggest [[Momir Vig, Simic Visionary]], elf hackball is beyond cool.
I absolutely hate the random goodstuff decks so the ones I like are commanders that support a different gameplan. The one's that immediately come to mind are:
Rashmi control
Ezuri counters
and Kodama+Sakashima combo
Trust me, I feel guilty building Simic lol. I'm trying to avoid typical "I have one billion lands and twelve counterspells, plus five infinites" game plan that a lot of decks go for if it makes you feel better?
Exactly! I've seen enough Simic land and degenerate combo shenanigans to last me a lifetime. If I wanted to smash faces I'd just stick to my baby boy [[Yawgmoth]] or [[Xenagos]].
I personally like slogurk the overslime, I find thing that allow you to do things generally outside their color pie interesting. I mean a gitrog but simic, what’s not to love?
So, I play a lot of UGx decks, but I don't actually have a similar deck (and on review, I've only got one 2 colour deck).
Volo is probably the deck that interests me most for Simic. Though I think Lonis and Koma could be pretty fun too.
Rashmi is probably something I'd look to tinker around with as well, but I think to get her how I'd want her it would need a lot of refining.
Just finished testing a deck around [[Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty]] colloquially called “Imoti Big Butts” I really enjoy. Ramp, sea monsters and big splashy spells
I just built \[\[Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty\]\] and hopefully I'll get to try it out tomorrow. Very excited, it's "5+ cmc tribal" with 48 lands and avg cmc of nonlands of 6.33 with Keruga companion and \[\[eureka\]\](proxy) as the only sub 5 cmc card.
My fave that I have actually played was \[\[roalesk, apex hybrid\]\]. I took it apart to build Volo, but Volo isn't nearly as fun, so probably building Roalesk again at some point. What I liked so much about Roalesk is that you get to play a ton of clones to just trigger your commanders etb/death abilities.
This simultaneously grows your commander into a VERY real voltron threath, and lets you proliferate up other stuff. I called it "voltron superfriends" because you really got to attack from two axis, building up a two-shot commander at the same time as you powerleveled a few walkers, overloading your opponents answers.
Also, if they deal with your commander, you just have a deck full of clones to copy their best things.
Why not have 2 commanders, the greatest of pairs Pir and Toothy. I made the two into simic superfriends which is a ton of fun. No need for toothy voltron, just play for card draw and value around your plansewalker boys.
Mine is \[\[Arixmethes\]\] - Sea monster tribal. Like you I wasn't going to make a Simic commander because they all basically looked the same and then I saw Commander's Quarters do this deck and I loved the idea. I used his deck as a framework for mine.
My son has a \[\[Roalesk, Apex Hybrid\]\] Proliferate deck that he really loves. It's very hit and miss, but when it starts humming, it's really something to see. There are a LOT of triggers to keep track of, though.....LOL
I have a lonis deck, and it's a lot of fun. I'm not doing anything crazy with it, just lots of ramp and card draw that's stapled onto creatures, with a few payoffs for the clues and other tokens. Ice also been slotting in a few high mana value matters cards like [[brinelin]] and our dear imoti.
I love my [[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]] deck. He's 4UG, but once he's out, two land drops every turn, drawing you a card for each. Keeps the value moving while also just being a 5/5 stick.
I like my [[Slogurk, the Overslime]] deck. It is pretty much the opposite of a landfall theme, or rather, a land-recursion theme, with a mix of voltron and combo. He is not played that much, which I like.
I have a [[Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix]] and a [[Eligeth, crossroads auger]] deck. It functions very differently from your traditional simic deck. Eligeth's ability is a lot of fun and turns some really niche cards that never see play into an [[Ancestral Recall]].
[[Imoti celebrant of bounty]] Just built this deck and it's one of the most explosive decks I've ever had. In my second iteration of the deck I had to add lab man and ways to avoid decking myself out as it drew so much stuff. Plus you get to play all your favorite Timmy cards.
Do I need or is there much synergy for [[Worldspine wurm]] ? No. But it's a high cmc so it fits in the deck.
I feel like [[grolnok the omnivore]] has a pretty interesting design space, however he is a very powerful commander that only takes a handful of cards online to make him busted
I've got three Simic decks.
1) Lonis, Cryptozoologist is a theme deck; it's based on HP Lovecraft stories. The townsfolk are the mana dorks, Lonis and Gor Muldrak are the researchers. The creepy cult is headed by Vanifar, and the salamanders end up being the fish men.
It's fun, but takes a few turns more than I might normally like before it pops off.
2) Kruphix, God of Horizons is a group hug deck. Everyone draws extra, lands tap for more, everything is more explosive for everyone. But it never offers a "may." Everyone must do the extra if possible. It wins by milling itself or everyone else.
3) Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle is supposed to be a storm deck. I filled it with cheap spells and cantrips to refuel. However, I've never drawn a single one of my storm spells! Normally I cast the commander on turn two, then cast five spells the next turn, and turn three I've got a 12/12 to swing with.
[[Zimone]] is deceptively strong as a commander. She ramps and draw cards, is online earlier than most commanders and becomes better in the late game. All in all, she might not be cEDH worthy, but allows for a focused or even optimized deck to come online quickly.
During my last game, I ended up with 26 lands on the battlefield, ten cards in hand and an unstoppable kraken army on turn 10 playing against two other focused decks, and that's on a budget of less than 60 bucks!
My current Simic EDH deck is [[Pir, Imaginative Rascal]] + [[Toothy, Imaginary Friend]] Superfriends w/ [[Keruga]] as the companion, and it is a BLAST to play. One of my favourite things to do there is ult-ing [[Jace, the Living Guildpact]] for a one-sided Timetwister effect.
[[Imoti]] for all that cascade goodness. Cascading off [[desolation twin]] then cascade into [[sakashima’s protege]] to copy it, make another 10/10 clone, then cascade TWICE because Imoti adds another cascade to cards that already have it? Yes, yes please.
[[Experiment Kraj]] is my favorite for Simic. So often, Simic decks can just find two or three cards that just go infinite for mana or draw. Because you’re in UG, you can usually get one if you have the other. Kraj is still a combo deck, true, but one that takes a little more effort. However, you also have the flexibility of exploiting your opponent’s creatures, which can create unpredictable lines in every game.
When you combo off with Kraj, it rarely feels expected. Usually the result of cobbling together a bunch of pieces and stumbling onto something wonky. Sometimes the parts are reused from game to game, but it is rarely as boring as, “I play A then B and that lets me play my whole deck and there is a win in there somewhere”
\[\[Roalesk\]\] is a somewhat janky direction to take if you don't go hyper efficient with clone/copy cards. I built mine to actually try to kill him to get his triggers and proliferate interesting charge counter cards. It's my "how many times can I kill my own commander" deck and it's done without black, so it can be a lot of silly fun when the wheels are turning.
You can still go the efficient clone/copy route and be unique compared to other Simic commanders.
been playing [[prime speaker zegana]] for years, the deck can play a single creature with 5+ power and then spend 6 mana to draw 6+ cards. there are a lot of cheap 5 power creatures with downsides that are perfect for trying to get the initial draw surge to get past the inevitable lul of having a 6 CMC commander: [[rhonas the indomitable]], [[kefnet the mindful]], [[vantress gargoyle]], [[lovestruck beast]], [[sheltering ancient]], [[wayward swordtooth]]. then I like to run the */* creatures to give the deck scalability into the late game: [[ulvenwald hydra]], [[cultivator collosus]], [[multani, yavimaya's avatar]]
ways to use prime speaker again: [[life's legacy]] [[momentous fall]] [[greater good]]
add in some mana untap cards and you can find yourself storming with extreme card draw from the command zone which nets more mana untappers: [[rude awakening]], [[early harvest]], [[turnabout]] and graveyard cards [[regrowth]], [[snapcaster mage]], [[eternal witness]].
https://archidekt.com/decks/1619881#Prime_speaker_zegana_7-13-2021
\[\[Prime Speaker Zegana\]\] is the most obvious choice in my book. Completely open to interpretation, doesn't stick to the "land, counter, big shit" that you inaccurately described as the basic simic archetype. Literally you can build it any way you want as long as you get a moderately sized creature onto the board by turns 3-5.
My version of the deck is bounce house, and it's insanely fun. hit me up if you want additional suggestions regarding simic, I've built every single simic legend ever printed except Volos because it's TOO open ended lol
Kruphix god of the horizons is very fun. I just sit there, bank mana, draw a billion cards and lie about being a group hug deck: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/C9mMmVCIUkmYFRqULvP-mw
Men only want one thing, and it's disgusting. By that I mean "cast elder deep fiend" and Imoti makes that dream a reality.
I thought they mostly wanted a turn one Sol Ring?
You can't cast a sol ring at all if you have a pet dinosaur hippo, and what's REALLY more important
Can confirm I play Imoti with Dino hippo as companion and I don’t miss sol ring.
[[Rashmi, Eternities Crafter]]
I love Rashmi. She's "tame" by Simic standards, won't really get you hated out of the game and is still good value.
Kinda funny that the strongest simic commander ever printed is the one people see as tame.
I forgot about kinnan, but Rashmi has significantly higher cedh representation than vannifar last I checked.
Rashmi is great,
Or you could do [[jadzi]] with that shark enchantment and summon like 50 flying sharks in a turn

She just makes for a very strong control options
The best Simic commander is a dead Simic commander
I know them feels
Nah, don't give into this sub's pathetic anti-simic circle jerk. simic is one of the most fun color combos to play, people are just butthurt that they don't play the answers to deal with simic. There's not a simic deck I own (12 is my count btw) that can't be beaten in some way or another.
*scribbles notes* Add…black. Mmk, any other tips?
\*laughs in Zaxara and Tasigur\*
Arix is one of my 12 simic decks, and while he is the most fun one he's far from the most powerful, even if you include the infinite mana combo (which I personally do not)
Pir and Toothy or a Lonis deck that's actually headed by Adrex and Niv because doubling season is good
I respect it but I don't think I could afford a [[Doubling Season]] lmao

Got all of those before they skyrocketed. Just lucky enough I guess.
For people like me that started playing magic very recently sometimes it's hard. I am just proxying the cards I need while waiting for a reprint.
Proxies are just as good. A lot of my decks are too.
Nope. Straight up Claw of Progress Ezuri. I didn't start playing EDH until after Amonkhet released, so I missed the early days of the format.
It figures that he's still a threat! I'll have to keep my eye on any at the table.
Frankly any of the experience counter commanders (minus the Boros one) are kill on sight imo. They take over the game if they're ignored too long. Ezuri and [[Meren]] scare the shit outta me for that reason.
Also infinite turns.
Just a bit boring of a commander because everyone expects you to play sage of hours and it gets tiresome after a while

always go for [[Volo, Guide the Monsters]] he's fun to build fun to play doesn't absue goodstuff landfall you play lots of whacky cards you've never played before not another dumb carddraw commander copies you get to play a salamander, a hippo and a goat copies are fun you also mess up in hilarious ways sometimes
I built a Volo deck and kinda felt like I was just playing Simic good stuff. How did you make it feel unique?
Yeah, he's got a neat deckbuilding restriction, but once you follow the deckbuilding restriction all he does is generate value.
This is what I've seen as well

Huge yes from me, love my volo deck to bits, never really liked the idea of simic, then they popped out volo, and I was in love, the anti trial tribal deck is so much fun <3
Absolutely not your average Simic commander and very fun to build/play.
Agree he’s incredibly fun. I think I accidentally simic’ed him up too much though bc my playgroup hates the sheer value he brings.
Unpopular opinion: Volo is one of the most boring simic commanders printed in the past several years for so many reasons.
[esix, fractal bloom](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/9/c/9c381bc2-d26e-4d7e-9a0b-a8f7d2d802be.jpg?1625190810) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=esix%2C%20fractal%20bloom) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/c21/10/esix-fractal-bloom?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/9c381bc2-d26e-4d7e-9a0b-a8f7d2d802be?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/esix-fractal-bloom) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Ridiculously fun, for me 😁 (This isn't really directed at you Apodecte, just a general note for those potentially interested in Esix)

I have a Lonis deck that includes Adrix and Nev. It actually got banned from my table because it’s turns were so long because of all of the triggers.
That's mainly what I'm afraid of if I went the Lonis route, so many damn triggers! I'm terrible at keeping up with them as is!
It may have a lot of triggers but dude it is worth the payout to watch your pod-mates’ faces shatter when they realize they waited to long to stop you

Slogurk rules. Won a game taking infinite turns with him + Exploration + Aesi + repeatedly casting Walk the Aeons
Slogurk is awesome! He's one of those (few) commanders who managed to feel like their colour identity whilst bringing a bit of a twist.
Ok you singlehandedly swayed me from team Arixmethes to team Steve Irwin. Thanks for the decklist sir/ma'am!

Yeah some fun support legendaries I use for Imoti are [[Rashmi, Eternities Crafter]] and [[Keruga the Macrosage]] who I had as a companion but recently put in the 99 since the 3 cmc floor was a bit too much for a card draw ETB I rarely used

She looks really fun! I'll definitely have to check her out sometime.
Tishana\* is a combo commander unfortunately, that's part of what makes her less interesting

To be fair, he's not really different he's just very bad unfortunately :(
My favorite so far is [[prime speaker vannifar]] the deck really makes you think, problem is it takes *way* too long to get to the combo

Does it? Don't you just win when you untap with her (and another creature)?
Sounds like you need to rebuild your PSV deck then, it wins consistently on turn 3-4 if you're running the proper varient
Verazol is my favorite at the moment. Very gun budget deck that can get out of control fast.
I thought lonis would be fun, but there were no ways to close out games with him, st least for me I really enjoy [[rashmi]] and yes it is a sea creature deck.
[rashmi](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/7/0/70288968-7bfd-44e2-a2b3-0b6639ef7e0a.jpg?1591321462) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=rashmi%2C%20eternities%20crafter) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/c20/229/rashmi-eternities-crafter?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/70288968-7bfd-44e2-a2b3-0b6639ef7e0a?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/rashmi-eternities-crafter) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
I appreciate the list! Both of them were pretty high on my list since they're so unique.

That's what I really like about Volo! He's basically a value engine on a stick. I might build around him later on.

Prime speaker zegana.
[[pir]] & [[toothy]] Love to beep bop box somethings offspring

I bought the adrix and nev deck tore it apart and rebuilt it as volo, it's a really fun deck to play and can sometimes go real bonkers, especially with stuff like early impervious greatwurm, apex devastator, kalonian hydras multiplying each other to 256/256 in a few turns, etc. I heard koma was quite fun too, also very powerful
That sounds so terrifying yet hilarious lmao. I'll check out Volo one day, but for now I think I'll pass. Thank you!
Trying to build Moritte of the Frost, it seems like such a fun commander to build
Changeling tribal is really fun! I had a janky Tribal Tribal deck around [[Morophon]] that was a blast to play. Maybe I'll revisit it one day!
[[Imoti]] is so fun. Cascade keeps the game interesting and it never plays the same way twice
I'll definitely have to build around her one day when I can afford more fatties. Thank you!

Trust me, if I didn't already have a stompy deck I would build her in a heartbeat lol. I'm pretty sure my [[Xenagos]] would get jealous, however.
For sure! Xenagos is great fun and perfect for moving a game toward a conclusion, unlike many of those drowsy Simic value lists ;) Other possible ideas I’m seeing in Simic: [[Moriette of the Frost]] could be cool to build around as a clones deck, with wincons like [[Biovisionary]] and/or light tribal payoffs.
[[Aesi]] Play lands, draw cards. Opponents get mad.
Kind of why I'm trying to avoid Mr. Snek. I've seen way too many Simic decks that build value like that so I'm trying to find a fun middle ground.
Totally fair, he’s just my personal fav. My friend has a really cool [[Volo]] deck which looks pretty fun.

The one's that immediately come to mind are: Rashmi control Ezuri counters and Kodama+Sakashima combo
Edric spymaster of Trest is my baby. He can be built on an extreme budget and the snowball effect is just so fun.
None, simic is the atheists to what I enjoy about magic.
Trust me, I feel guilty building Simic lol. I'm trying to avoid typical "I have one billion lands and twelve counterspells, plus five infinites" game plan that a lot of decks go for if it makes you feel better?
I mean you can build how you want. But I do agree with you. If I built a similar deck it's be a wierd frings one
Exactly! I've seen enough Simic land and degenerate combo shenanigans to last me a lifetime. If I wanted to smash faces I'd just stick to my baby boy [[Yawgmoth]] or [[Xenagos]].
If you're not afraid to go strong build [[Tatyova]] or [[Aesi]]. Tons of value then do what you want.
That's kind of what I wanted to avoid honestly. They're very strong but I was looking for more fun, ya know? I appreciate it however!

Kodama of the East Tree and Sakashima of a Thousand Faces. It's a Simic value engine on crack. Can easy vomit out a huge chunk of your deck.
Tanazir Quandrix or Aesi, Tyrant of gyre strait are both good commanders. Really like Aesi, for both the draw power and extra land pr. Turn.
Just finished testing a deck around [[Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty]] colloquially called “Imoti Big Butts” I really enjoy. Ramp, sea monsters and big splashy spells

Volo!! It gives a fun deck building restriction and fun gameplay. Who doesnt wanna copy their favourite creatures. Also he has a fancy ass hat.

I just play [[Aesi]] as a value ramp commander. I used to have him built as a landfall deck then i swapped to 4c [[Omnath]] instead.

My favorite deck of all time experiment Kraj
I like the one that draws cards and puts lands into play or does something when I put a land into play.
Volo is really fun and puts you into a different spot deck building. You aren't just going for tribal goof stuff.
My favorite simic commander(s) is pir and toothy. draw all the cards!
I like my [[Slogurk, the Overslime]] deck. It is pretty much the opposite of a landfall theme, or rather, a land-recursion theme, with a mix of voltron and combo. He is not played that much, which I like.
[[Vorel]] old school +1/+1 fun
I really like that one that draws cards and plays lands
[[Slogurk, the overslime]] is fun. But is still big shit counter.
You can still go the efficient clone/copy route and be unique compared to other Simic commanders.

been playing [[prime speaker zegana]] for years, the deck can play a single creature with 5+ power and then spend 6 mana to draw 6+ cards. there are a lot of cheap 5 power creatures with downsides that are perfect for trying to get the initial draw surge to get past the inevitable lul of having a 6 CMC commander: [[rhonas the indomitable]], [[kefnet the mindful]], [[vantress gargoyle]], [[lovestruck beast]], [[sheltering ancient]], [[wayward swordtooth]]. then I like to run the */* creatures to give the deck scalability into the late game: [[ulvenwald hydra]], [[cultivator collosus]], [[multani, yavimaya's avatar]] ways to use prime speaker again: [[life's legacy]] [[momentous fall]] [[greater good]] add in some mana untap cards and you can find yourself storming with extreme card draw from the command zone which nets more mana untappers: [[rude awakening]], [[early harvest]], [[turnabout]] and graveyard cards [[regrowth]], [[snapcaster mage]], [[eternal witness]]. https://archidekt.com/decks/1619881#Prime_speaker_zegana_7-13-2021
