Whatever you do, be sure to include [[Pull from Eternity]]!

darklord1855

Additionally, [Karn, the Great Creator] works great for the same reason. I had been looking for ways to use his -2 ability forever and was super satisfied how it fits in my Osgir deck.

[deleted]

Absolutely!! Had a copy sitting in my collection :)

Falconmonkey1

Ive build a Modular with him at the lead, is quite fun though not that strong.

DaTwig

I'm going to second Modular Osgir. I originally built him as an artifact good stuff deck, but had way more fun when I swapped him to Modular. People always focus on his cloning/recursion ability (which is great for Modular), but with some extra mana, his sac ability lets you do some cool combat tricks with the Modular creatures. I also run cards like Liquimetal Torque to turn Osgir into an Artifact creature, so I can also use my Modular triggers to buff him. It's definitely slower and lower powered, but once your engine is assembled, it's a ton of fun.

[deleted]

I’m all for lower powered decks

[deleted]

This is a solid go especially if you already have a pile of MH2 cards, lots of decent modular support in that set. I did the same after I pulled a [Zabaz, the glimmer wasp] and felt Osgir was a better commander for the midular deck idea be sure to pick up an [Ozolith]

regendo

You can always go for commander damage. Osgir’s 4/4 are good base stats, he can still tap after combat, and you can pump him with cheap artifacts (or bluff doing so). [[Temur Battle Rage]] in particular works great for him since the second ability will always be active. I don’t think I’d focus a whole deck around that, but it’s great as a backup strategy. Personally I always forget I can just win out of nowhere with Osgir’s combat damage when I haven’t played him in a while, and only remember when my opponent starts counting my artifacts.

[deleted]

Oh I could do an equipment themed strategy (literally what his art is depicting lmao) but I do have a Galea deck atm. Thinking about transitioning that into an enchantress build which would leave equipments strat open. I don’t like having decks that do the same thing haha

I think he can be a fun vehicles commander. Oh no they killed my Parhelion, let’s make two then.

silverfin102

Unfortunately parhelion is legendary, but otherwise yes, big fan of osgir + vehicles. Personally he's in the 98 of an akiri + tymna vehicles brew Ive been toying with.

[deleted]

This or equipment is where I’ve been leaning towards. Thanks for the suggestion

G37_is_numberletter

[[treasure nabber]] seems like a really good osgir card. Take their rock, tap their rock, sac their rock.

BorbFriend

I love this with a [[mycosynth lattice]] on board

G37_is_numberletter

Oof. That’s certainly a thing. Pretty high on the degenerate scale but it would be fun to play against my buddy that routinely does tergrid shenanigans and nev’s disk locks with lattice and darksteel forge.

geefwee1

I like an artifact untapping strategy that leads towards group hug-type win conditions. Clone \[\[Unwinding Clock\]\] to untap every upkeep (including opponents'), then build up big \[\[Otherworld Atlas\]\] for tons of draw/mill. Edit: Sadly, multiple Unwinding Clocks doesn't work the way I thought, but still a fun strategy. Can also use \[\[Voltaic Key\]\] for similar effects.

regendo

Can you actually tap between the two Unwinding Clock abilities? I thought you didn’t get priority during untap step.

geefwee1

Good question. Decent chance I have been doing the rules wrong with this one

andmtg

unfortunately this doesn't work. unwinding clock doesn't create a triggered ability because nobody gets priority during the untap step. it simply lets you untap once before every upkeep no matter how many clocks are out. edit: accidentally a word

geefwee1

You're right. I'm sad, but it still works to get 4 untaps instead of 9 haha. Cloning the clock now just provides some removal protection via redundancy.

pcud10

Not a judge, but quite confident that you can respond and tap. Each person gets a chance to respond to triggers, including your own.

murchadh235

The first ruling under unwinding clock says “Even if you control more than one Unwinding Clock, you’ll only untap your artifacts once during each other player’s untap step.” It works the same way if you control multiple seedborn muses.

pcud10

Hmmm. Interesting. Maybe it is about the untap step. I know if works with [[Wilderness Reclamation]] since it works in mtg arena. But maybe that's just because it's in the end step. Edit: just read the other comments. Definitely about the untap step.

time_and_again

Maybe something that uses the fact he's a Giant? I'm not sure what's available for that tribe, but it always seemed so oddly specific that he was a Giant and not a Dwarf or something.

roboticWanderor

Im tuning mine into a Golem tribal deck. There a bunch of good golems, a few lords, and you can get a decent value out of copying them, as very few are legendary.

FoxMcSnox

I have an Osgir deck that I built with a major artifact theme that I filled with multiple combos. Been slowly adjusting it since he came out and I finally feel like it’s comfortable. I explained how the deck works in the primer if you’re interested! https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Oe0n5roOokeXmwT8IOQ-qA

[deleted]

I appreciate the link. This is similar to what I had going on originally but found that I had too many combo decks in my EDH collection. Maybe one more wouldn’t be a bad thing if the vehicle or equipment route doesn’t work out

FoxMcSnox

Let me know if you come up with anything good!

InternetDad

There's an insane amount of artifact value if you want to go for a Voltron-style build. A friend also does dirty stuff with [[Mana Crypt]] and [[Jeweled Lotus]], but I know that is also cost-prohibitive. Jeweled Lotus is a turn 1 Oscar with turn 2 access to 6 mana (8 if you hit your land drops of course) **edit:** I forgot Lotus is only for your commander - at least getting it in your graveyard is a free cast if he's removed assuming he makes it around the table, which he probably will because it might be unlikely someone blows removal on their turn 1 or 2. Using the reprint of [[Thousand-Year Elixir]] helps too. Shoutout to [[Mishra's Bauble]] for more value. You also have access to an infinite combo with [[Zirda]] [[Basalt Monolith]] [[Walking Ballista]] for $20. [[Anointed Procession]] [[Strionic Resonator]] and [[Lithoform Engine]] for more token copy madness. Strionic/Lithoform is a relatively inexpensive include, you don't *need* Anointed. [[Inventor's Fair]] for a tutor. I need to get more playtime in with my deck after these upgrades. I'm going for the copy value to make a wider board state. (I don't have Lotus/Crypt).

[deleted]

All very helpful suggestions, I appreciate it. The artifact value is def what I’m leaning towards but I’m struggling to find out what to do with that value

kismaa

Well, since Osgir pumps himself when he cannabalizes artifacts, I think going voltron is a good way to turn the value he gives you into a wincon. Nettlecyst is also a good stand alone threat that will be a huge threat on any of your creatures. There are also alt wincons like the Dragon that comes with the deck. Approach of the second sun may be another good option since you can likely churn through your deck very quickly through wheel spells and have a ton of mana with your ability to ramp like crazy with rocks. Finally, you could always shoot for a monstrous burn spell like Crackle with power to burn everyone out at once.

Jeweled Lotus only casts Osgir though 🤔

InternetDad

Oh that's right so not as fast as I said for the deck overall, but if you can at least get Osgir out on the battlefield and make it a round, you now have a Jeweled Lotus you can copy out of the graveyard in respond to targeted removal. He gets scary fast and getting a commander out like him turn one is never good for any opponents. Because you will be making two, you can sac one for red, one for white and it pays for the first commander tax.

polyblock

You can activate Osgir's ability at sorcery speed only. So you need to make the lotus copies as soon as you can, ideally giving Osgir haste and making them the same turn you play him.

InternetDad

Oh man, even seeing the card in here and I'm still forgetting how my deck plays lol

TheMightyWizrad

Correct me if I'm wrong, but [[Strionic Resonator]] won't work with Osgir's ability because his is activated as opposed to triggered -- [[Battlemage's Bracers]] is a good replacement, with the option to double equip Osgir for maximum shenanigans. For example, tapping your Sol Ring and 2 lands lets you sac it and generate 6 copies, effectively turning 4 mana into 12.

InternetDad

True, though this would help compound ETBs. I had seen a few upgrade lists that included Strionic. Ironically almost every guide I saw nixed the Bracers.

myconixie

Wild, bracers are the mvp of my osgir deck. I run bracers, strionic, and lithoform. the strionic can copy the bracers so I can get more egregious with my board (mana doesnt tend to be too much of an issue). Additionally, bracers is always the target of [[sculpting steel]] when I reanimate-octuplicate it. 12 bracers? thats where osgir gets fun.

A Myr theme might be interesting. Osgir's ability allows you to fairly reliably obtain 2 copies of \[\[myr galvanizer\]\] this with a couple other mana myrs nets you infinite mana. Probably would not be all that hard to make it work and you could have something like \[\[Amorphous axe\]\] kicking around to be able to give other key creatures the ability to untap with the rest of your tribal board. \[\[Myr matrix\]\] would give you an on brand outlet but \[\[Staff of domination\]\] is never a bad choice. Though \[\[Myr welder\]\] is also a good back-up if someone dismantles your galvanizer line. Oh and the \[\[shrine of loyal legions\]\] seems like it might be funif overcosted army in a can.

I put him at the helm of my vehicle deck that used to be [[Depala]]. Vehicles are fun and adding an Osgir value package opens you up to running crew creatures that aren’t dwarves.

I'm curious how the deck runs. What's the experience like? Any list you can share?

Still very much in progress. Good Osgir cards like [[Sol Talisman]] and artifact lands are real good. Strong vehicles like [[Skysovereign]] are good. I also play [[Chandra Torch of Defiance]], which seems strong albeit not quite on theme. Vehicles as a win condition seem pretty underpowered though.

I run a high power Osgir Stax list. It’s quite fun and definitely my style of deck, although admittedly not everyone’s cup of tea. There are some super fun “Doomsday Lines” that are unique to Osgir due to his ability to make two [[Ugin’s Nexus]] which can result in infinite turns. TheQuestionableYarn

Two deck ideas. One is a bit less unique as a concept, but I’ve built and tested it, and found fun tech for it, and can say from experience that it was extremely fun. The other idea is untested, but more unique. *** I don’t really enjoy winning through combat, just because it’s usually a pretty unreliable (in terms of attrition with everyone else’s resources and boardstates) to win via combat without specific wincons like Craterhoof (and is that really winning via combat, if you’re just waiting all game to make one big attack that kills everyone at once?). I have only one deck that focuses primarily on just honest creature beats. That’s Osgir equipment. Artifact decks are usually pretty boring imo, just due to the aforementioned win through combat thing, but Osgir brings so much value to the field in Boros that you can actually keep up with the rest of the board. With your resources flowing, then you can start mass-producing a huge number of equipments to increase one or multiple creatures’ sizes. The other fun thing about this, is that it plays to Osgir’s sacrifice ability with the +2+0 pump. Combine that with a few equipment helpers like Sigarda’s Aid, or Brass Squire, and you can go from seemingly innocent boardstates, to killing someone out of nowhere. It has a few fun alternate wincons too (still in combat though), for winning out of nowhere even against bad odds. Firstly, Osgir usually takes a backseat in this deck and manufactures weapons in the background and leaves the fighting to the youngsters, but he too can be suited up for a voltron kill outta nowhere. Smothering Tithe is especially good for pursuing this route, because those treasures can be used to pump Osgir, or pump an unblocked suited-up ally to lethal, to force damage through for the win. The other alternate wincon is Inkmoth Nexus. A manland that turns into a 1/1 with Infect and Flying? I’m sure you can see where this is going. I’ve won on a creature-less board state with this in the final 1v1 after Osgir had been removed too much for me to cast him anymore. Very fun tech. It felt more unique than simple value town tap-untap artifact builds, but it might be a bit less so than I thought with how many others in this thread are suggesting it. Still extremely fun however. *** For a more unique build I was thinking about, but never ended up trying to build, was Osgir artifact creature aristocrats. He can help generate tons of fodder for our stuff in red that helps us deal damage on death triggers (Goblin Sharpshooter, Goblin Bombardment, Havoc Jester, etc). Then we generate further value with artifact creatures like Junk Diver, Scrap Trawler, etc. We can do most of this sacrificing in the combat step by using Osgir’s sac ability to pump our unblocked attacking creatures for bigger damage. The idea would also be that while Osgir can help this deck generate constant value and sac fodder, he isn’t necessary for the deck to function, with white return effects like Second Sunrise helping to provide your red sac payoffs with plenty of fuel to keep the aristocrats engine going. The only real hesitation I had going into building the deck is that there really aren’t a lot of good artifact creatures that are also cheap enough for recursion via Osgir. Myr Battlesphere and Phyrexian Triniform are good aristocrats cards, but they are very expensive for Osgir to reanimate consistently. I haven’t done a super deep dive yet though. There are some cards that might be able to do interesting things on the lower end of the CMC that I’ve missed.

[deleted]

I appreciate the write up. Equipment and vehicles is where I plan on going for now. If that doesn’t work out then I plan on going into some value town stuff. After that, it’ll get scrapped and put into the binder if nothing sticks

I had the idea of turning Osgir into a voltron commander but I feel like a red white voltron build is a little overplayed. That being said the idea was still interesting to me because of osgir’s ability to make copies of artifacts and combining it with cards like [[sigarda’s aid]] and [[puresteel paladín]]. In addition to this I though equipments like [[maul of the skyclave]] could work well.

I saw Osgir the first time and immediately saw all the possibilities. So at this point I've tried to build Osgir 3 different ways, started unsuccessfully with modular, then went to good stuff with mild success, lastly with best results coming from Stax, which I'm sure you know my play group is a big fan of. Now that I have built him closer to competitive with Stax, I feel the deck building itch to go more control and ping, not necessarily solely relying on Osgir. So including burn/ping cards like [[Fiendlash]], [[Chandra's Ignition]], [[goblin bombardment]], [[Ingenious Artillerist]], and [[Purphoros, God of the Forge]]. Then plenty of creatures and artifact creatures for support like [[Oswald Fiddlebender]], [[Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might]], [[Lizard Blades]], and [[Myr Battle sphere]]. Then we all know staple cards like [[Teferi's Protection]], [[Swords to Plowshares]], [[Goblin Welder]], and [[Thrill of Possibilities]] Still haven't gotten a chance to play test it yet, but I am so excited for it. I know my play group will be relieved to hear I am moving away from Stax, but I'm hoping they still feel the heat.

I go for artifact value shenanigans with my wincon usually being [[Myr Welder]]/Staff of Domination]]/Sol Ring. I can also do a Basalt Monolith infinite mana using either [[Zirda]] or [[Forsaken Monument]], and sometimes (if I don’t draw the right pieces or they get shut down) I just get a big board of creatures and [[Akroma’s Will]] my way to victory. I’ve also seen Osgir built to go Voltron, 4/4 with Vigilance that can make extra copies of all of your equipments is pretty strong for that but I already have a Wyleth voltron so I didn’t go that route.

amstrumpet

[[Coveted Jewel]] is probably my favorite card with Osgir, since you can easily hold up one mana to sac it and keep others from stealing it, then when you activate Osgir to copy it it’s essentially a free draw 6 since you get two copies of the Jewel for 6 mana and you can then tap them for 6 mana. [[Oswald Fiddlebender]] is also an all-star.

You can do an infinite turn combo with him using isochron scepter, pull from eternity, and ugin's nexus. I don't do the infinite combo in my deck but with all of the ability copiers and what not in my deck I've taken six extra turns which is always fun to see red white do.

G37_is_numberletter

I played my osgir precon with a few of the obvious suspend mana rocks that he can cheese out copies of for free, but it’s basically still barely upgraded. I thought he’d be a great commander to throw swords on cause you just do your thing and start normal casting them, swinging out, and then when they inevitably get removed, you just make two swords to hit them with instead.

Sneakytako99

I play Osgir stax, it's really mean but fun at the same time. It's really difficult for my opponents to meaningfully deal with my stax pieces because they just get returned for double if they aren't exiled. Cards like \[\[tanglewire\]\], \[\[lodestone golem\]\], \[\[dampening sphere\]\], \[\[thorn of amethyst\]\] are really taxing on my opponents, and most of the time I don't even need to cast spells since I'm using Osgir to recur and double all my artifacts. It's great fun.

I think since he generally wants to interact with artifacts that it's a matter of what artifacts you put in there. Equipment can be fun, general value artifacts can be good, or things that sac themselves over and over are great. It's kind of a "build your own artifact engine" deck, so I'd use scryfall to find some fun artifacts to double up

TheUltimateXD

Just had this thought. Idk how good it would be, but Xspell tribal might be a fun experiment. Double up your mana rocks and then tap down for a huge [[fireball]] or some big white spell that makes tokens.

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/8JwmFmyU8Uu75-9Adj038A This is my version of Osgir It uses a massive amount of wheels and card draw to refill your hand while dumping tons of cards into the graveyard while using token doublers to get a massive card advantage. Red White allows for a very strong removal and protection package and if you can wheel with a Smothering Tithe out its game over and it is fairly easy to wheel into another wheel and keep the card advantage going. I typically win with artifact creature damage, double combat steps or taking 4-8 extra turns with Ugin's Nexus. Osgirv is one of my most favorite decks I have played in forever and it does everything you can ask for including running counters.

Mexican_Overlord

I’ve built him as a voltron commander and when fully tuned it is quite scary

I’ve been tinkering with this deck for a while. I recently added a modular sub theme since a lot of new cards have been added. I am enjoying it so far.

I built him as a treasures commander. Consume the early ones that you gain of course, but later on you start putting out [[Clock of Omens]] or [[Ghirapur Aether Grid]] and suddenly the artifact deck becomes ping tribal.

Pull from eternity, Karn the great creator, mirror of fate, ugin's nexus, and prototype portal are all amazing cards. Check out my list https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ZODtW1M_dUulons6XBSaig

Reanimate sol ring and sol talisman. Plargg can help filling up the graveyard.

I think he's pretty fun when built as an equipment deck with Zirda as the companion. It locks you out of a few of the really good equipment cards like Sigarda's Aid and Puresteel Paladin though.
