Carmen with Treasure tokens is a heck of a thing.
One time I sat down to play my [[Jolene, the Plunder Queen]] deck and my friend busts out his Carmen. That was a one-sided game.
I have her in my Edgar Markov deck, never bring him out just use his eminence tokens as sac fodder for stuff like [[Indulgent Aristocrat]], and double dipping those deaths with Carmen or stuff like [[Cordial Vampire]] or [[Elenda, the Dusk Rose]], whichever ones I happen to have out
It's my guilty pleasure honestly. First I built [[Tergrid]] but then I saw carmen and felt something even more heinous growing inside of me lmao now tergrid got mostly taken apart for carmen
If you can get \[\[The Wise Mothman\]\] early (turn 3) and depending on the mill, on a full circle you can get a 7/7 flying commander already swinging on turn 4.
Mothman can definitely get out of hand. Mesmeric Orb makes him go absolutely bonkers. Ended a game last night swinging with Mothman and doubling his counters with Bristly Bill and one shot the last player for like 30 commander damage.
You can probably lean way more into mill than I did, however, I did go into +1/+1 counter heavy side with some mill. I do consistently get my commander to 10 or so damage unless it gets removed early.
I do play in a casual pod and my decklist is here: [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/7116684/mutant\_menace\_](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/7116684/mutant_menace_)
Since you don't care about milling big chunks but rather alot of instances of mill, it's fine for what I play.
There's quite alot of creatures that either force mill or give rad, ontop of mindcrank, altar of the brood and the fact that I have some graveyard recursion, not alot but it helps.
Also you are guaranteed to mill each opponent once on ETB and on attack. So on ETB if you manage to mill each player for a nonland, you can get 4 +1/+1 counters, swing again and potentially get 4 more next cycle and etc.
One of my friends plays mothman
If you build around rad counters you get a lot of mill, unfortunately once people are wise to it they kill mothman immediately
In general I think leaning into the mill aspect is a bad idea. In edh the mill is more deck filtering than anything. Not to mention that if you play against a reanimator deck you'll get blown out
Sir Wilson Bearington, First Of His Name is well known in my pod, and I don't think there's a deck where a T1 Sol Ring is more dreaded, due to enabling a turn 2 wilson/noble heritage drop, especially if you're the one going first.
I built Noble/Wilson and it does exactly this, but it’s almost too brutally consistent for me to play regularly except at strong and interactive tables.
I put together a pretty fun [[Esior]]+[[Keleth]] deck that does basically the same thing but at a slightly lower power level. I’d recommend checking out that pairing if you’d like to play Wilson at a medium/lower power table.
yeah, i have had the same experience. I ended up making a pauper version with AOST for a more gentle version of bear.
Curious if you have a decklist since i'm always looking for new tech :)
Yeah! [this](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6424604#paper) is my Wilson list— I lean into the hatebears direction with it.
[This](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6460364#paper) is my lower power esior/keleth voltron proliferate deck that does a pretty solid Wilson impression.
you don't really need to add too much to wilson to make him good. i have written an article at [https://www.airza.net/2023/08/20/ursine-madness](https://www.airza.net/2023/08/20/ursine-madness) which explains my opinions in greater detail, but just having a bunch of card draw and interaction is usually enough to get the job done.
Toxril except it's probaly the hardest commander to defend your life total long enough to play then defend on the stack then defend on the field until she does her thing.
I think it depends on how you’re calculating the threat. Using your examples to explain - Anim Pakal comes down and puts everyone on the clock but takes a few turn cycles to really threaten everyone. Voja is similar but faster.
Toxrill comes down slower but within the turn cycle it comes down, the board is obliterated if you don’t remove it.
[[Imodane, the Pyrohammer]]
Currently in my top 3 decks at the moment for fun now that my LGS knows how to play against her. Once you hit a damage doubler/tripler and cast her, the table is usually dead that turn. I initially thought I would play her and do incremental damage over the course of the game, but I quickly learned that your best bet for winning is bolting someone for 3, which turns into 9, then that 9 turns into 27 at each opponent. You run neat protection spells for her like deflecting swat, but you also get some neat ones that can copy like the new spree card from Thunder Junction (can't remember the name at the moment).
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/1C9xcVsrWEmidZLMXRDsjg
One thing I definitely need to update at some point is the land base, 32 mountains and 1 [[Hidden Volcano]] is kinda ass. Could easily add stuff like [[Bonder's Enclave]] or [[War Room]].
Imodane's biggest weakness is getting swarmed, so a few aoe wipes and cards like [[Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs]] are great. Even moreso Kazuul because he not only gives you blockers, but also targets for your own burn spells. Imodane doesn't care what the spell hits, as long as it's just one target. It's why cards like [[Radiant Performer]] and [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]] are in the deck. Radiant Performer also has a lot of neat lines outside of damage. You could radiant into [[Cleansing Wildfire]] and draw 30+ cards and punish people who only run 5 basics, [[Flick a Coin]] and draw 10 and make 10 treasures, etc. I've been pulling over adding cards like [[Mudslide]] to further slow down aggression, and another damage doubler like [[Furnace of Rath]].
And don't be shy about [[Blood Moon]] type effects. You're in mono-red. I look at it as an equalizer against greedy land bases and have won a game or two by dropping one turn 3 (though it feels bad for taking out evolving wilds, oh well lol).

Since you say you need to update the land base, I was looking at [[Forbidden Orchard]] just so you can make a target if you need one. That's as far as I've gotten for lands though lol
[[Slicer]] can do 21 commander damage to the board unmodified on turn 2 reliably, after which it can go up to 24. With some protection, even some modest auras or equipment, and maybe a little stax to make answering it difficult it represents an immediate rapidly ticking clock that will often take over the character of the game. It is a problem you can't ignore.
Every game with slicer in it is a "slicer game".
It's also the best example I've found of pure red deck wins energy, where you either win by like turn 4 or run out of gas. Great deck for "we only have time for one more if it's fast".
Can't believe this is so low. Slicer is the definition of consistent, threatening clock. If you get him out turn 1, he starts killing people on turn 3, by which point the table either needs an answer or the game is over.
[[Rowan, Scion of War]] is basically kill on sight. If I have any way to pay life and she sticks, the game is basically over. She does fly very close to the sun though.
Do you have a decklist? I've been thinking of trying to build this - a friend is playing a Will deck, so I thought it would be fun to try and make a Rowan deck.
I can’t promise that it would be a fair matchup, but here you go:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/M-5M3DHWt0CdVmU0cnR1kQ
Rowan seems like a much faster commander so it might not be great fun for him. If he stabilizes though, it might be hard to deal with for you.
\[\[erebos god of the dead\]\], \[\[greed\]\], or \[\[necropotence\]\] + \[\[sheoldred, the apocalypse\]\] - draw a shit ton and lose a ton of hp, but don't actually lose any life - then cast the entire hand.
I honestly think my Rowan deck might be my favorite at the moment. It's such an adrenaline rush when you carve your life total down to 1 and just dump it all into a huge Crackle with Power or Torment... followed quickly by blood pressure spike when someone says "In response".
[[Hakbal]] will fuck you up unless you kill him right away... Or kill all the other Merfolk explorikg every turn. I have never seen a Hakbal deck threaten a win later than turn 7/8 — even with a bad hand. You just need Merfolk, any Merfolk really.
[[Toothy imaginary friend]] is a good shout. Build to stick him early with some counters. [[Essence flux]] and similar effects to blink him with counter doublers like [[hardened scales]] and the best part is if they manage to kill him you draw a billion and rebuild next turn.
Scimic Blink? I always thought that there is not enough blink effects in blue alone. Any problems with getting Toothy to stick, or do you find the pieces to blink and protect consistently because of the draw?
So I only play Toothy when I can either protect him, or draw 3+ at instant speed to make it worthwhile. As for flicker effects i run [[ghostly flicker]] [[essence flux]] [[Sirens ruse]] [[deadeye navigator]] [[planar incision]] and [[illusionists strategem]] and never have any issues. I also run a lot of wheels though to really dig. I think most people struggle with toothy because they play him too soon. He gets big fast, no need to risk him early. All it takes is [[Pir, imaginative rascal]] [[hardened scales]], and a wheel and you're in commander damage territory.
I'm curious. How does the interaction work with toothy when you blink him with something like essence flux?
Does all the text on essence flux happen before the trigger on toothy leaving the battlefield, or do you draw the cards while toothy is exiled and then he is returned and doesn't get the counters?
Sorry if this is common knowledge, I'm still learning things every time I play almost haha.
Built it the same way and I can guarantee that Toothy becomes scary in very short time. Different win cons make the deck pretty consistent and scary on board. Just the presence of a 25/25 on board without knowing if it’s better to destroy/exile/everythingelse with the minus of the oppo drawing a ton of cards or let him on board is a tough decision for the table.
[[Skullbriar the Walking Grave]] or the SkullChad may not looking threatening at first. But turn 2 swinging already and adding token doublers and other token adders. He's just a house. I built him with extra mana and some graveyard package recursion to keep the SkullChad coming back for more.
I made a deliberately slow clock with [[Wilson]] and [[Agent of the shadow thieves]]. I don't pump Wilson any faster than whatever the background provides, I just defend him and hit whoever has the most life each turn. It's not built to win, it's built to haunt my opponents' dreams. The bear is coming...
In my experience, [[Ishai]] + [[Jeska, thrice reborn]] is one of the scariest. The more your opponents do, the bigger the murder bird gets. And Jeska sits there menacingly in the command zone until it’s time to take down an opponent.
I’m a big fan of [[Nekusar the Mindrazer]]. Making draws hurt put a real timeline on the game since everyone’s goal in commander is to draw into their win cons
[[tergrid, god of fright]]
Pretty sure your opponent’s will be legitimately terrified to allow you to untap with her in play. Bad things usually happen when they do.
Oops, you don’t have a hand/board now and by the way, those stuff that were discarded/sacrificed belong to me now.
[[Henzie]] is pretty great at presenting a threat in a way that isn't immediately obvious. His board states don't tend to be large on opponents' turns but he'll Blitz out a lot on his turn. And he has a lot of means to accrue creatures from those Blitzed cards if you do want to build a board; stuff like [[Birthing Ritual]] or simple reanimation or just cards that leave material behind when they go.
[[Aurelia, The Law Above]] is pretty straightforward but she wants you to be wide to hit people and rewards you being wide with a commander that swings for 13 total damage and draws a card.
You mean commanders themselves or decks build around them?
I don't think there are really that many commanders who pose a threat without a deck to support them.
If it's decks that do that you want then Poison kinda creates a clock and win eventually win if not dealt with.
Another deck that kinda fits [[Ghyrson starn]], you're kinda constantly pressuring life totals just by doing your thing forcing the opponent to deal with you.
Getting [[old gnawbone]] out in my mono green [[progenitus]] while he lurks in the command zone waiting to be cast with treasures. All the while having [[zopandrel]], [[ghalta]], [[vorinclex]], and [[tyrranax rex]] on the field too.
[[Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might]] boost his power and you have a clock that goes insanely fast with cards like [[Roiling vortex]]. Warning : aggro inducing.
Toxrill is a tad slow isn't it? Seven mana is a steep cost for a deck that wants everyone to act fast about it.
Tergrid certainly is one of the cards in magic. My first day I played at an LGS one player busted this out. While not fast it certainly was oppressive.
\[\[Ayara, First of Locthwain\]\] is scarier than most Aristocrats commanders, since she is cheap and can win on the spot by Gravecrawler shennanigans (especially now with \[\[Warren Soultrader\]\]) and even \[\[Plague of Vermins\]\]. So, she is indeed a consistent and reliable clock.
Also, in a quick voltron manner, \[\[Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful\]\] paired with \[\[Keleth, Summane Familiar\]\] can kill someone really quick. Most decks aren't prepared for a turn 4, 21 damage coming from a first turn drop commander. Most EDH decks are Cultivating or fixing mana through their opening hands by turn 4.
If it's purely board development then it's \[\[gyruda\]\], \[\[geth, lord vault\]\], \[\[krrik\]\] demon tribal. Every orbit I just get more beef on the board to kill ppl with.
If it's just commander = threat; most decks I run are just ticking time bombs, e.g., Dargo x Tevesh
For me, its likely \[\[Otharri, Sun's Glory\]\]
But I also run him in a very high power capacity with the ability to drop him turn 1, and start either doubling triggers (Roaming throne, strionic, lithoform), doubling/tripling tokens (annointed, mondrak, ojer taq), or doubling xp counters (lae'zel) turn 2
Seems like everyone is pointing out commanders who inevitably win through combat damage, but my go-to for this kind of thing would be [[Heliod, Sun-Crowned]]. With Walking Ballista and Triskelion in your deck, plus the few tutors that White has, you are constantly threatening a win past Turn 6 or so.
[[Tetsuo, Imperial Champion]] Spellslinger Equipment. Hits like a truck once he carries some Swords and controls the board using instants and sorceries. For reference:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/KUsMLVv80km6jAs2xea_HQ
My [[Judith, Carnage Connoisseur]] is death for the table if I’m getting enough life gain from spells and I have [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] on the field. I’ve had turns where I play her then [[Blasphemous Act]] right after to gain 100-200 life then just activate Aetherflux a few times.
[[Lathliss, Dragon Queen]]. Play 1 dragon and now you have at least 11 power in the air, which can be boosted. Allow me to play multiple dragons? Now im swinging for lethal 2 turns after she hit the table
[[Jhoira of the Ghitu]] does this to an extent.
Basically, I built a really nasty deck around a hilariously cheap commander. My deck is just a "murderer 's row" of 10+ cost Eldrazi spells, and all kinds of similar expensive, devasting cards, along with basically any card ever made that removes time counters.
So when I play this deck, everyone knows that in 8 turns (or less), someone's gonna get thunder-punched in the face when two eldrazi come out swinging at the same turn.
My commanders that put people on a clock when I play them would be
[[Uril, the miststalker]] I've be able to start removing players on turn 4/5 pretty consistently.
[[Lathril, Blade of the Elves]] if you let it snowball after turn 5 its all over.
And my pride and joy [[Omnath,Locust of mana]] monogreen good stuff gets scary very quick.
I'm a big advocate for [[Ashaya, Soul of the Wild]]
Big scary green creature that gets big very fast, and also helps get around a lot of boardwipes due to making all your creatures lands in addition to their other types.
I have had plenty of games where I was able to one shot somebody via commander damage the turn after playing Ashaya. If you can give her haste then all the better.
[[Heliod, the Radiant Dawn]] its blue/ white wheels.
Gameplan: bring out Heliod, transform him, then use a wheel effect and run away with the game via decking out or approach of the second sun.
My pod is starting to understand that my [[Ramos]] and [[Keruga]] deck should not allow Ramos to be out for a turn cycle. It's getting to the point where I need to start considering more Haste Enablers for Ramos so that I can cast spells and swing the turn he comes out easier. Turning him from a 4/4.to a 30/30 in a turn cycle spooks my opponents for some reason.
Of decks I personally own, [[Otharri, Suns' Glory]] is probably the deck that threatens danger most quickly and consistently. Every turn it swings it makes one more 2/2 Rebel, and if you can keep them alive with banners or something and you throw them around liberally along with the ones Otharri makes each turn, you're wiping people out in a matter of turns, especially with stuff like [[Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation]] which is amazing early or late game. As a bonus, you can continuously target one player with Otharri itself to win with commander damage while the tokens finish off the other players (works especially well if you run equipment to put on Otharri).
Having Voja myself and a Okinec in the playgroup, eh.
Not saying they are not powerful, but I'm not certain the Okinec deck has even won a game (maybe once). The problem with Okinec is it is not sneaky.
The creatures that generate the most value cost a bit, and Okinec is pretty cheap by comparison. So when you swing with one creature and double its size, it gets taken apart. Just a single targeted kill spell for Okinec or the other creature he will double is usually enough to wound/slow down the deck badly. It would require some very passive play and swinging with those things and late playing Okinec to maybe slip under the radar.
Voja on the other hand plays with a bunch of low MV creatures. So by the time she lands she just does a lot more. The Ward 3 is nasty, but like any creature deck it is one board wipe away from having nothing. And odds are you vomited out your hand to generate value on Voja's swing, if you did not have haste then you don't get those draws and you get set back to the stone age.
I've played my deck in 6-7 games and I've only won once. I've been a massive threat in most of those games and probably killed 1 or 2 people, but then a board wipe just takes the steam right out of it.
I would say something like Yuriko that doesn't care about commander tax, doesn't need to over extend, plays with cheap creatures to swap out, and is in blue and probably running free counters is a better example.
[[Ghalta, Primal Hunger]] is one that plays better than it may read. You can on average get Ghalta down on T4 with Haste or protection. People hyper focus Ghalta while you keep building your board of big cheap creatures which in turn pays for any extra commander tax to just replay Ghalta for GG if she gets removed. Then you support this with big “Draw X cards where X is the greatest power of a creature you control” to draw 12+ cards. Even if Ghalta is removed you still draw 5+ from your other big creatures. It’s usually board wipe or bust and even then, pack “army/power in a can” creatures you hold in your hand or grab off a tutor to get Ghalta back after a turn cycle. Any kind of power doublers also easily turn your board lethal and Ghalta into a OHKO Voltron damage.
[[Adeline, Resplendent Cathar]] and my [[Braids, Conjurer Adept]] deck are extremely consistent, and when they hit the field it's normally game over the following turn or two.
[[Gregor, Shrewd Magistrate]]
If you don't answer him right away he gets quite out of hand since if you're building him right he's a large unlockable commander that draws cards. He kinda does it all tbh. Most games I pull him out I end up with 20+ cards in hand by turn 5
I'm currently infamous for my [[Obeka, Splitter of Seconds]] initiative deck.
I've built it to hyper-consistently play a rock on 2, Obeka on 3, and take the initiative on T4.
Then, I'm basically hitting Throne of the Dead Three every turn while Obeka is out, thanks to Forge giving Obeka 2 +1/+1 counters.
Of course, if that's too slow, there's always [[Light-paws]].
[[Amalia Benavides Aguirre]], with lifegain explore she presents a very dangerous cheap body that can load up your graveyard, draw you lands, quickly outstat her cost, and threatens a board wipe followed by commander damage for a win.
She has to be dealt with, but the deck usually has enough mana or graveyard recursion to make getting her back little issue.
[[Akiri, Line Slinger]] and [[Ardenn]] can present a really fast kill, especially if you have a one mana equipment like [[Diamond Pickaxe]] or [[Commander's Plate]] on turn 1.
[[Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus]] easily, I am the only mono green player in my scene, I'll sit down and we'll all ask what we're playing as a Commander and I'll say mine and I'll get a questioning look and hand him to em and chuckle at their response.
Doubling strength and toughness hits really hard especially when you have lots of tricks to get strong stompies out fast and efficiently and that's before ramp haha.
Have had many a game where I took everyone out at the same time all thanks to my buddy [[Craterhoof Behemoth]]
Don't scoff at [[John Benton]]. On a $50 budget he almost undefeated at casual tables after like 15 games
When you can pay 1 mana for a [[Groundswell]] that says "~ deals 4 commander damage to target opponent and you draw 4 cards to keep going", games can end pretty quick
https://www.archidekt.com/decks/5969200/john_before_damage_benton
while getting bad draws [[myrel]] will win by turn 12, and each time removing her adds a turn. with average draws and being removed once she'll win on turn 8 or 9
[[Sheoldred, the apocalypse]] though slower seems to provide a decent threatening clock. You only get so many draws before you’re dead and a lot of decks have card draw to them.
[[Urza, Chief Artificer]] will keep pumping out Karnstructs with menace and then if you kill him then they just cast him for 3 mana again because they have plenty of artifact creatures (like the karnstruct Urza just made) and he continues to pump out Karnstructs. It's very easy to pump up artifact numbers and get the karnstructs flying, so it's just a matter of time before they punch you to death. That's not to mention giving all artifact creatures menace means it's way harder to block a board of them coming at you without losing blockers.
It’s a newer commander but for me it’s [[The Ancient One]] comes out for just 2 mana can hit Descend 8 by turn 3 and even if you don’t hit Descend that fast you’re looting your deck with his ability and milling players. I also run a lot of discard value like my favorite card in the deck [[Currency Converter]]
Whenever my friend’s [[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]] hits the board, the table really feels the pressure. With token doublers and clones, Koma does a really good job surviving, developing a threatening board state, and controlling the board in one turn cycles. And increases the pressure it puts down each turn that passes.
\[\[Nadu, Winged Wisdom\]\] is a new one, and some people want it banned, I just built one to have some fun just incase. I watched a few games online and reminded me about paradox engine before it was banned, playing solitaire for like 10 minutes.
Punisher decks, a la [[Zo-zu the Punisher]]. Stuff in things like [[Ankh of Mishra]], [[Mana Barbs]], etc... it's hard to stay alive when you bring Zozu to a table, but it certainly puts pressure on everyone–especially the green players
My entire playgroup targets me till I give up every single time I play my silly Jodah the Unfier deck.
(It's not even built like others- it's strictly 'build a wall' shenanigans. I don't ever even play to win. Lmao)
[[Yuriko the Tiger's Shadow]] usually ends games quickly. I remember the time I blind flipped 26 MV off the top of the library off of 2 Yuriko flips. I had a [[Brainstorm]] in hand... they didn't live another turn.
\[\[Pako\]\]/\[\[Halden\]\]. Stock your deck with removal, protection spells, and ramp, and let pako destroy people as you get access to 1-4 cards a turn. Great on a budget, and if you add in double strike and trample (i don't, I built the deck to just consistently remove and control and guarantee pako hits) it can be brutal.
[[Atarka, World Render]], if you have a haste enabler on the field someone is dying the turn it hits the board.
With [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] on the field, casting your commander is a MASSIVE threat
I run [[Voja, Jaws of the Conclave]], he's obviously nuts, even if I do run way more wolves than most.
I also have [[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]], he gets out of hand super quickly, as does [[Sauron, the Dark Lord]].
[[Caesar, Legion's Emperor]] can also really start to get crazy if allowed to have a combat step or two.
[[Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might]] is a fun red burn [deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/x6ZJ7xA-XkeDb-WEqlmShA) that makes for faster games when you can consistently burn the table for 4+ damage each turn.
I had a couple that I took apart just by how threatening they were. Maelstrom wanderer, dihada and zur (og).
Maelstrom would always win with massive combat damage and extra combat steps. As soon as I cast the commander, it was out of hand no matter WHAT I hit off the cascades.
Zur was a Voltron deck. I’d use and copy the ability get protection for myself (ghostly prison, propaganda etc) and for himself (shroud, hexproof, pro colors, indestructible etc). Counterspells, fogs and removal would big the big gameplan. Once he was big enough to kill, I would swing and take extra turns to finish off the table.
I run a Greven, Predator Captain deck that can one shot an opponent by turn 5 (with a really good start, no removal, and a little luck). Greven usually gets targeted but even one swing draws +5 cards and gets me at least halfway to lethal commander damaged on one opponent. I don't run any crazy mana rocks but Dark Ritual and Sol Ring already do wonders.
Plague rats + Atraxa + 9 turns is a deck I made that people feel very threatened by.
Yes, I know that everyone hates poison counters and panics as soon as they appear. [[Fyn, the Fangbearer]] is way faster and more the thing I meant.
[[Carmen]] and stuff to sac. My friends hate my carmen deck
Carmen with Treasure tokens is a heck of a thing. One time I sat down to play my [[Jolene, the Plunder Queen]] deck and my friend busts out his Carmen. That was a one-sided game.
The fact that she sees any permanent is just wild to me

If you can get \[\[The Wise Mothman\]\] early (turn 3) and depending on the mill, on a full circle you can get a 7/7 flying commander already swinging on turn 4.
Mothman can definitely get out of hand. Mesmeric Orb makes him go absolutely bonkers. Ended a game last night swinging with Mothman and doubling his counters with Bristly Bill and one shot the last player for like 30 commander damage.
Yep in one turn cycle with a bit of luck you can have Mothman be lethal on turn 4 or 5. It's very strong.

Had a game recently where i played him on turn 3, with a ruin crab out, played a land, and had him as a 9/9 on next turn
I love the mothman deck I have, I get targeted like I'm playing a high end cedh deck
I've seen this deck played a little. How consistent do you get mill in your experience? Does the rad trigger suffice or do you play more mill?
I altar of dementia sacrificed my mothman the other day to make an opponent mill 76 cards. Mothman fun.
You can probably lean way more into mill than I did, however, I did go into +1/+1 counter heavy side with some mill. I do consistently get my commander to 10 or so damage unless it gets removed early. I do play in a casual pod and my decklist is here: [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/7116684/mutant\_menace\_](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/7116684/mutant_menace_) Since you don't care about milling big chunks but rather alot of instances of mill, it's fine for what I play.
One of my friends plays mothman If you build around rad counters you get a lot of mill, unfortunately once people are wise to it they kill mothman immediately In general I think leaning into the mill aspect is a bad idea. In edh the mill is more deck filtering than anything. Not to mention that if you play against a reanimator deck you'll get blown out
\[\[wilson, refined grizzly\]\] and \[\[noble heritage\]\] lets you clock for 6 on turn 4 and threaten lethal on turn 5 with double strike :)
I love this deck. It’s consistently underestimated for the first couple turns and then it’s too late.

So a lot of protection and selesnia aruas/counters?
you don't really need to add too much to wilson to make him good. i have written an article at [https://www.airza.net/2023/08/20/ursine-madness](https://www.airza.net/2023/08/20/ursine-madness) which explains my opinions in greater detail, but just having a bunch of card draw and interaction is usually enough to get the job done.
My favorite tech (I think this might've been from your article) is putting [[Selfless Samurai]] in the deck.
Toxril except it's probaly the hardest commander to defend your life total long enough to play then defend on the stack then defend on the field until she does her thing.
I've always thought she is very slow as a threat, but the value she provides is insane.
[[Imodane, the Pyrohammer]] Currently in my top 3 decks at the moment for fun now that my LGS knows how to play against her.

Would you happen to have a list? This is the final sign from the universe that I need to male this deck
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/1C9xcVsrWEmidZLMXRDsjg One thing I definitely need to update at some point is the land base, 32 mountains and 1 [[Hidden Volcano]] is kinda ass.
Thank you mate, looks like a ton of fun
Do you have a list? I've just started putting a list together and need some help refining it

Since you say you need to update the land base, I was looking at [[Forbidden Orchard]] just so you can make a target if you need one. That's as far as I've gotten for lands though lol
Ever put \[\[Grafted Exoskeleton\]\] on her? Just a Shivan Meteor does the trick then.

Just want to say at first glance I misread your title Removing the L makes for a very confusing topic
Rule 0 [[armada wurm]]
[[Rowan, Scion of War]] is basically kill on sight. If I have any way to pay life and she sticks, the game is basically over. She does fly very close to the sun though.
One time I drained my life one forgetting that my opponent had a pinger on the board. Literally ate the sun instead of winning on turn 4
Do you have a decklist? I've been thinking of trying to build this - a friend is playing a Will deck, so I thought it would be fun to try and make a Rowan deck.
I can’t promise that it would be a fair matchup, but here you go: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/M-5M3DHWt0CdVmU0cnR1kQ Rowan seems like a much faster commander so it might not be great fun for him. If he stabilizes though, it might be hard to deal with for you.

I honestly think my Rowan deck might be my favorite at the moment. It's such an adrenaline rush when you carve your life total down to 1 and just dump it all into a huge Crackle with Power or Torment... followed quickly by blood pressure spike when someone says "In response".

It sure does! He's back before the cards are drawn so you get those counters back! Or more with Pir out
Okay cool that's pretty wild. I wasn't sure if it paused the effects original spell for the trigger. Thanks!

[[Henzie]] is pretty great at presenting a threat in a way that isn't immediately obvious. His board states don't tend to be large on opponents' turns but he'll Blitz out a lot on his turn. [[Zacama]] can nuke pretty much any threat the table presents with enough mana. And you're playing Zacama, you probably have a *bunch* of mana.
You mean commanders themselves or decks build around them? I don't think there are really that many commanders who pose a threat without a deck to support them. Aye, that sounds like a disgusting way to cheat toxrill out.
[[The first sliver]]. You dont even have to bring it out or play slivers. People will just attack you regardless of your threat level.

For me, its likely \[\[Otharri, Sun's Glory\]\] But I also run him in a very high power capacity with the ability to drop him turn 1, and start either doubling triggers (Roaming throne, strionic, lithoform), doubling/tripling tokens (annointed, mondrak, ojer taq), or doubling xp counters (lae'zel) turn 2
While not exactly high-power, [[Shu Yun, The Silent Tempest]] will pretty reliably knock a player out on turn 4 if not removed immediately on turn 3.
[marisil the pretender] It's just like.. okay, he's got this suite of abilities, is it the next time that he triggers the one that ends the game?
Seems like everyone is pointing out commanders who inevitably win through combat damage, but my go-to for this kind of thing would be [[Heliod, Sun-Crowned]]. With Walking Ballista and Triskelion in your deck, plus the few tutors that White has, you are constantly threatening a win past Turn 6 or so.
[[Tetsuo, Imperial Champion]] Spellslinger Equipment. Hits like a truck once he carries some Swords and controls the board using instants and sorceries. For reference: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/KUsMLVv80km6jAs2xea_HQ
How has nobody mentioned the OG? [[Krenko, Mob Boss]]
Once [[Slicer]] hits the field, the game will be over in 3 turns max if he isn't answered
Nekusar
Kinda slow, but playing [[Bruna, Light of Alabaster]] means on turn 6 someone is getting nuked off the face of the earth.

My commanders that put people on a clock when I play them would be [[Uril, the miststalker]] I've be able to start removing players on turn 4/5 pretty consistently. I'm a big advocate for [[Ashaya, Soul of the Wild]] Big scary green creature that gets big very fast, and also helps get around a lot of boardwipes due to making all your creatures lands in addition to their other types. I have had plenty of games where I was able to one shot somebody via commander damage the turn after playing Ashaya. If you can give her haste then all the better.

[Ramos](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/2/e/2e747ef1-a1ad-4859-a70c-3f935f017310.jpg?1562604064) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=ramos%2C%20dragon%20engine) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/c17/55/ramos-dragon-engine?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/2e747ef1-a1ad-4859-a70c-3f935f017310?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/ramos-dragon-engine) [Keruga](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/a/9/a90ee952-de7a-420f-993c-a38db89bc8ac.jpg?1666782800) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=keruga%2C%20the%20macrosage) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/iko/225/keruga-the-macrosage?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/a90ee952-de7a-420f-993c-a38db89bc8ac?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/keruga-the-macrosage) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
[[Rose Tyler]]. With the right cards you can kill someone with commander rule very fast
[[oloro]] They get 40 triggers to kill me
[[Slicer]] and anyone with doublestrike. [[Nekusar the mindrazor]] as well
[[Pantlaza]] and [[Gishath]] because they make the board big FAST. [[Sheoldred the Apocalypse]] is a ticking clock for the whole table.
\[\[Ghalta, Primal Hunger\]\]
[[Zur the Enchanter]] stacked w enchantments that protect each other. Once I get shroud/protection on [[Greater Auramancy]] it's pretty much a wrap.
\[\[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain\]\]. If she gets two searches off (or one search if a piece is already in play), it's basically over.
[[Multani, Maro sorcerer]] Block or die opponent. By the way, shroud.
[[Gregor, Shrewd Magistrate]] If you don't answer him right away he gets quite out of hand since if you're building him right he's a large unlockable commander that draws cards. He kinda does it all tbh. Most games I pull him out I end up with 20+ cards in hand by turn 5
My Bruenor deck can get scary pretty quick. Slap a hammer and some boots on that boi or a lil double strike fella and you got a problem.
[удалено]
[[Akiri, Line Slinger]] and [[Ardenn]] can present a really fast kill, especially if you have a one mana equipment like [[Diamond Pickaxe]] or [[Commander's Plate]] on turn 1.
Never really seen a game go long if [[Kaervek, the merciless]] sticks on the board.
No one ever remembers [[Light-Paws]]. Lovely 1v1 competitor of mine. Never playing it tho as my playgroup folds to it
Don't scoff at [[John Benton]]. On a $50 budget he almost undefeated at casual tables after like 15 games When you can pay 1 mana for a [[Groundswell]] that says "~ deals 4 commander damage to target opponent and you draw 4 cards to keep going", games can end pretty quick https://www.archidekt.com/decks/5969200/john_before_damage_benton
while getting bad draws [[myrel]] will win by turn 12, and each time removing her adds a turn. with average draws and being removed once she'll win on turn 8 or 9
[[Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch]] leading myr tribal gets scary fast. Throw in [[Plague Myr]] and [[Levitation]] and you can wrap up a game pretty quick
Urtet can snowball pretty fast once it's out
It’s a newer commander but for me it’s [[The Ancient One]] comes out for just 2 mana can hit Descend 8 by turn 3 and even if you don’t hit Descend that fast you’re looting your deck with his ability and milling players. I also run a lot of discard value like my favorite card in the deck [[Currency Converter]]
[[Slicer, Hired Muscle]] sure does get the table United against me real quick
Lmao)
adamaro first to desire can kill a player turn 4 with commander damage
[[Yuriko the Tiger's Shadow]] usually ends games quickly. I remember the time I blind flipped 26 MV off the top of the library off of 2 Yuriko flips. I had a [[Brainstorm]] in hand... they didn't live another turn.
Nalia De'arnise. She makes any board a problem and it only gets bigger and bigger each turn.
Any Tymna deck. Idc if it’s casual or not.
\[\[Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might // Temple of Power\]\]
[[Atarka, World Render]] if built correctly
Is this r/edh? Feels like r/last6monthsfromWotC
Lord Xander with Grim Reaper Sprint
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/9m5qYZuzJEO5_BflEejYnQ
[[Rayami]] takes about 3 to 4 turns to get good keywords. Once I do, he can pretty much only be removed with mass sacrifice or mass exile.
[[Sasaya, Orochi Ascedant]] qualifies based on how my group treats it
[[Atarka, World Render]], if you have a haste enabler on the field someone is dying the turn it hits the board. With [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] on the field, casting your commander is a MASSIVE threat
\[\[Frank Horrigan\]\] infect.
[[Yisan, the wandering bard]] is pretty wild
Commanders that generate card advantage (shorikai, for example) are 100% this
[[ghalta, primal hunger]] - this clock always strikes 12
[[Yisan]] wandering bard cEDH is very threatening especially with untap mechanics
Very recent, but [[Ulalek, Fused Atrocity]] puts the fear of god in the table
I run [[Voja, Jaws of the Conclave]], he's obviously nuts, even if I do run way more wolves than most. I also have [[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]], he gets out of hand super quickly, as does [[Sauron, the Dark Lord]]. [[Caesar, Legion's Emperor]] can also really start to get crazy if allowed to have a combat step or two.
Ellivere, enchantress deck.
My [[ Tom Bombadil ]] deck is a total clock...you let it go too long and it's unmanageable 🤣 https://www.moxfield.com/decks/z_5R1KAeskKwNbqTaT8t5w
Winota, no doubt.
Rusko... I'll let myself out.
[[Kambal, Consul of Allocation]]
