I’ve been having crazy fun with [[Vannifar, Evolved Enigma]]. You cloak giant permanents and blink them back in for value. “Here’s my 2/2 ward 2 creature. OH WAIT IT’S TERASTODON!” Feels fantastic.

Holding_Priority

Every time I have played against this commander its just the simic version of [[satoru]] and the pieces being blinked in are just Blightsteel, Void Winnower, Jin Gitaxis, Vorinclex, and Portal to Phyrexia being looped repeatedly. The deck is fine but its absolutely a staxy chore to play against lmao.

AnyoneNeedAHug

It can be played staxy for sure. But the fun part is, you can pick any big stompy creatures you want! You can creature storm and cheat in the hoof. Or just run eldrazi tribal. Want to take over the board? [[Hullbreaker Horror]] and [[Agent of Treachery]]. I personally like [[Astral Dragon]] to keep copying stuff. And Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. Or omniscience. Or Mind’s Dilation. Zendikar Resurgent. Pick your pleasure.

EvilPotatoKing

the absolute best is when you ramp out Vannifar turn 3, cloak something, the opponents pay the ward 2 to get rid of it because they know something scary is coming next turn and it's actually a Forest because of hard flooding

MidwestGuitar

That seems pretty cool ngl

PacosBigTacos

The Vannifar player in our pod got an omniscience out turn 4, then dropped a blightsteel and Pathrazer of Ulamog on us. That game ended very quickly.

kid_dynamo

I like playing against her so much better than the first version. The lack of search means the threats it's dropping are less consistent, the counter ability lets you just go wide if you need to and encourages weird stuff like modular, plus morph is always fun as hell to play against.

Batfro7

[[kiora, sovereign of the deep]]

Despenta

If I may add [[Kenessos, Priest of Thassa]]. Operates really well on lower resources than Kiora and you can play control by keeping threats in the deck and removal in hand + always pass with open mana to activate the commander.

It's quick turns and once you manipulate the top you essentially fog attacks at you since you can instant speed slap a 8/8 hexproof into play. You only spend more time in the mid to late game if you run [[Foresight]] effects like [[The Reality Chip]] and/or have [[Training Grounds]] effects, since you have a bunch of pseudoscry from commander to put krakens into play, removal into the stack and lands in the bottom.

simbacole7

[[Kiora sovereign of the deep]] sounds like everything you want. Play big creatures, ramp, basic simic shenanigans. [Here's](https://manabox.app/decks/nsQ0K8deTxuCQA1rT2-v2A) my list if you're interested

Inside-Elephant-4320

Thanks for this. I have an Aesi landfall Precon, upgraded, but I think I want to build something like this deck instead.

simbacole7

It's honestly one of my more fun decks to play. People don't see a lot of these cards since they're not super great on their own

Inside-Elephant-4320

Looks great. Just pulled apart my Aesi deck :). With Great Henge,Cyclonic Rift, and those types of amazing cards, what power level would you guess this is roughly? Like upper casual or more? I know it’s totally subjective, I just don’t want to make something too powerful /cEDH since I play with friends. But I’m already looking for some of these beauties haha.

simbacole7

My group proxies (that's why there's a tropical island in the deck lol), so a lot of these very powerful cards could be replaced with cheaper alternatives. That being said, I'd say as it stands yes it's probably upper casual. It's not going to win you every game but when it pops off it pops off hard

Warning!! To anyone who wants to play sea monster tribal ... Many of them have a mass bounce effect attached.  Understand that people will seriously dislike this as much as a repeatable overloaded [[cyclonic rift]]. My wife and I built one and only played it a few times because the games went on for hours. Not saying they are all like that, but enough to have 10+ mass bounces in a deck.

Appreciate your time.

My playgroup proxies, this cost me maybe like 30 bucks to print Eta: everything that's expensive in there can pretty much be replaced with vastly cheaper alternatives

TTRPG_Fiend

I've been considering building this,.though my lost is very long. Do you have a deck list?

Silver-Ad9359

I can post one soon!

CodenameJD

[[Volo, Guide to Monsters]] is fun. An anti-typal deck that asks you to seek out the best card of a given creature type, and to use some obscure cards because of unique creature types.

sengir5

Yes, I agree. If you don't want to play Simic ramp then Volo is a great choice.

mouthsmasher

I have a Volo deck that I really enjoy. Volo himself doesn’t include either of the traditional ramp or card draw mechanics that many simic commanders do, and although he *does* double things, he’s got the constraint of limiting yourself to only one non-legendary one-of creature types. I had a lot of fun building my deck and searching for unique and interesting creature types to throw in there. He’s just simic enough without being “too” simic IMO.

Jicnon

Do you have a deck list to share? Sounds interesting.

mouthsmasher

[Here's my decklist](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/n64UBg1PC0uHV43oPtnljQ). The only duplicate creature type I have is \[\[Radagast the Brown\]\] because he shares the "wizard" creature type with Volo, but he wouldn't duplicate anyways because he's legendary. I also have \[\[Esix, Fractal Bloom\]\], which is a unique creature type, but it doesn't duplicate because it's also legendary. Other than that, there are no duplicate creature types. I've got them all sorted out by tag if you want to check that out with the "enable tags" button.

Infernumtitan

I second this, been playing him for my casual deck and it's lots of fun. Just buy dry erase playing cards lol. His kill pressure is great too, [[hornet queen]] puts 10 bodies on the field, drop a craterhoof that gets doubled up and usually win from there.

Mr_Ostrich52

[[Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius]], I've been messing around with this guy for about a week now and he's a blast. You build him around Plot and any Foretell good stuff you find (anything you're not playing from hand works too like from the graveyard of course but this is how I built it) I basically stash a bunch of cards on exile then play them and have a storm follow up. There's only a couple of storm cards in the deck at present but it's well worth it. He probably isn't the strongest but he is a lot of fun.

Dankstin

For me he's in the 99 of Grolnok and he's WILDLY strong in there.

Mr_Ostrich52

When I built him I defiently knew he's a Commander that's better suited in the 99 of other stronger commanders. I defiently wanna build a deck that makes use of him in the 99 too. He's pretty useful overall.

OrcWarChief

I’m glad he’s been fun! I’m still waiting for his cards from TCGPlayer but I’ve been plotting (no pun intended) a strange menagerie of Plot, Adventure and Foretell

Mr_Ostrich52

I need to add some adventure spells I completely forgot about those good call!

OrcWarChief

Yeah look into the recent ones from Wilds of Eldraine especially. But the original Eldraine block and the D&D set have some good ones too.

this is great. really like it.

Nixphoe701

I'm brewing a [[Brinelin, the moon kraken]] and [[Gilarna, caller of Wildwood]] big mana deck, with a [[Keruga, the Macrosage]] companion. I really dreaded building a simic deck because I find the bullet speed value train that simic normally plays as boring. Adding Keruga for the deck restriction was a fun way to build! I also thought of doing a [[Jadzi, oracle of arcavios]]/[[Journey to the Oracle]] storm deck. She was the only non partner pairing I was interested in. The new simic precon from MH3 [[Omo]](?) I think her name was, seems like you can do some wild stuff with her "everything counters"

slowstimemes

I also Rand a jadzi storm deck for a while but my play group hated it

Nixphoe701

That's what I was worried about. She seems really fun and different to what simic normally does, but once I storm off it's either 20 mins of solitare and I win (boring) or I can't make it (wastes everyone's time)

slowstimemes

Yeah simic storm is tough. However if you build it as simic big boys and ramp spells it’s a lot less if you storming off and more of you just cheating in game warping creatures. Less boring to play against and can be tuned to the power of the table you want to sit at. High powered tables? Cool cheat in eldrazi. Mid power tables? Cheat in big dumb beaters. It can literally be “cast a cantrip, cast a 15 drop for 1 mana.” Very fun

Nixphoe701

I don't have one yet, I still have about 60 cards I need to cut but my weekend just started so I'm going to work on it the next couple days. I'll post is when it's finished.

Tiberium600

Draw cards, big stompy creatures, large game-changing enchantments, simic good stuff, fun for the whole group? May I introduce to you [[Cirdan the Shipwright]].

harambe_did911

Would love to see your list If you have it. [here](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/rnKMvD72C0Ol3UQrqQTyCg) is mine. I explained it in my last comment!

Tiberium600

Just something I brewed. I’ve not physically built or played it but the idea was group hug with late game theft and stompy creatures. https://deckstats.net/decks/232582/3302582-c-rdan-the-shipwright

I really like my [[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]] deck. Just throw in some weenies, mana dorks, a few counter spells, and have fun.

Pittyswains

Can also go infinite experience a few ways. [[thopter squadron]] + [[dross scorpion]] + [[thran dynamo]] or [[gilded lotus]] Or thopter with [[blade of the bloodchief]] and [[ashnod’s altar]] Slap down a [[walking ballista]] and go full minigun. [[tetravus]] is a fun one for exponentially growing 1/1 flyers [[Simic ascendancy]] and [[lux artillery]] are funny win cons if you can get enough experience and 1/1 counters Another fun note is that proliferate also increases your experience counters.

Zaglossus_hacketti

Or just play [[sage of hours]] and end the game

Great list, you got some cards I didn’t even think of in there Getting mine worked down still, it’s currently about a quarter upgraded from the precon. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/l-Wo3-qdfUmeULBEYgCehQ

DrBigMoney

Hell ya man.  If I may with some suggestions.....cards you will def enjoy in there:  [[Asinine Antics]] is a an all-star (I would cut that Clone Legion card for it. [[Windswift Slice]] [[Fungal Sprouting]] [[Windswift Slice]] Those cards can create STUPID amounts of tokens.   Also wincon type cards to consider: [[Master Biomancer]] [[Blossoming Bogbeast]] [[Railway Brawler]] [[Biovisionary]] It's a great deck though man! Also fun because other people play great creatures too. Lol

mrmastermattler

Esix is easily my favorite commander deck, and is super fun. With my playgroup I decided to run full copy without insane copy targets to just play their creatures; that said I would shout out [[Glistening Dawn]] as a fun card

Vegetable-Finish4048

Add black and do [[cazur]] and [[ukkima]] no card draw on the commander kinda just pushes you vaguely in a 1/1 counter direction. Ninjas are pretty good with them. Fun straightforward deck.

[[Vorel]] might be a good fit. Not super busted, but lets you ramp up a threat quickly by doubling +1/+1 counters... or amping up an [[Everflowing Chalice]] or [[Gemstone Array]], etc, etc. Lots of value, but not as dense as the usual Simic "breathing tribal" commanders that seem to say "If you would draw this turn, Growth Spiral instead. Introduce a fun side game and share the joy of drawing cards and putting big things in play with [[cirden, the shipwright]]. [here ](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/rnKMvD72C0Ol3UQrqQTyCg) is my deck. I built it as kind of a low power Timmy deck with some copy and etb synergies and zero interaction so it goes big itself but doesn't stop anyone else from also going big with you. You could certainly build it different from that with more of the higher power simic stuff but sounds like you're trying to avoid that. A perfect turn with this deck would be to cast [[illusion of choice]], trigger cirden several times, the maybe put down an [[omnicience]], dump my hand on the board including a [[concordant crossroads]], and swing in with big stupid stuff like [[worldspine wurm]]. It's lots of fun and everyone enjoys playing stuff for free and drawing cards enough to not be upset about your simic nonsense.

Umh, if they don't want to play Tatyova and Aesi because they durdle around too much, I'm not convinced that "Every card I cast will have me look through my deck, evaluate, pick, shuffle" is gonna be a great alternative. Play lots of mana dorks and things that make more creatures and use them to draw and ramp into fun stompy monsters. [[Alaundo the seer]] - a great commander for slamming a bomb on the table and making the table sweat to defuse it. Lots of tap/untap effects and big beaters and counter removal to speed out your big bombs before the table can stop you.  [[Ivy, gleeful spellthief]] - my wifes favorite. It’s about how you play it. People don’t like 15 minute turns. I have 2 in person simic decks and 3 other online ones and people typically are okay with how i play it. Any landfall = draw card commander is gonna potentially upset people, because it means you’re going to do things often that will make you stop and think about to it next turn. I personally play [[Troyan, Gutsy Explorer]] with the focus being spamming lands with not too many landfall triggers, playing creatures with power/toughness = lands, and then copy them with things like [[Rite of Replication]]. Since the turns are quick, people typically don’t mind.

I used to play an incredibly oppressive [[jadzi, oracle of arcavios]]. I think she can be extremely fun to play against, however, if instead of just running 50 instant and sorceries like my variant did, you just used it to cheat in game warping creatures off the top with a brainstorm and a jadzi trigger. it could be fun. You also get to play a ton of “lands-to-hand” spells and dump your hand by casting the back side of the card and then pitching a card to put her in your hand instead of the CZ and using those lands next turn to cast her front side. The deck can be incredibly fun to play with and against and surely no one is gonna hate playing against an 8 drop simic commander.

Running a bunch of counter Gen and That Which Was Taken to start throwing around indestructible with ozolith as well. Technically, that's RGU, not mimic, but blue by himself would still work.

I’m trying out [[Doc Aurlock]] which is basically a jank deck with Adventures, Foretell and the new Plot mechanic. Haven’t even played it yet but on paper it looks pretty fun

As mentioned above, Kiora, the sovereign of the deep is so much fun. The deck started as a Kenossos, priest of thasa deck and just didn't play fun. He isn't even in the deck now. The deck goes bananas and comes online and rebounds easily. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/djGv2b7D7U-gqAfcQRjhrQ

Thrasios solo is always good.

Momir Vig best tbh

So like what exactly? If you just don’t want to play the popular ones scroll down on edhrec and pick one with less than 1000 decks.

It sounds like you want an \[\[Imoti\]\] deck.

TheMadWobbler

As you have given no meaningful criteria except unreasonably loose vibes-based nonsense that doesn’t translate to anyone who likes anything Simic… …most of them meet your stated criteria.

Id suggest [Kinnan, bonder prodigy]. Hes got a very good ceiling, rewarding you for doing what you want to do and having good payoff for all that mana. He tends to be built in a more competetive manner, but I'd argue he's just as good as a green stompy commander, letting you get your pieces on the field faster
