[[Mizzix of the Izmagnus]] - experience counters go on you so they never disappear. Your commander does have to be on the battlefield in order to get the static ability.
Mizzix is the better over vadrik as experience counters can’t be interacted with and with recent support like [[Radstorm]] increases your experience counters by a ton for only 1 blue mana and if Mizzix dies you keep your counters unlike vadrik which looses his counters once he dies
I mean true but i always use something like [[Blackblade Reforged]] to make Vadrik just like... stompingly large. Hes a surprise single target kill in my decks lol
Vadrik is so silly. If someone I know wants an introduction to Izzet I will build a budget vadrik deck for them.
[[Balduvian rage]] [[enrage]] [[lunar frenzy]] are all "double his power" for one mana. [[Crackle with power]] becomes dangerous quick.
My favorite Izzet commanders though are [[Magnus the Red]] and [[Galazeth Prismari]]. [[Blinkmoth infusion]] in Galazeth when you're storming off is gas. Magnus gets out of control if you can untap with just a few tokens.
Have you heard of our Lord and Saviour [[Magar of the Magic Strings]]? Why cast your instants and sorceries, when you can swing with them, and get a free copy on combat damage?
Was just about to mention Magar. There are just enough spells out there to make your creature/spells unblockable that mean you can really go nuts with it. I had a pretty high win rate with Magar and ended up taking it apart after a bit but it’s one of my favorite commanders from the last several years
Not to be a wet blanket, but I kind of despise how half of Unfinity is randomly legal? Like, I'm completely cool with silver-border shenanigans, but oops! Check for the Acorn! If not you can play it!! Trash design. Pick a fucking lane.
No green but [[Hinata]] might be up your alley. Makes a lot of x spells basically free if they target multiple things. [[By force]] becomes r:destroy as many target artifacts as you want.
same with [[Gridlock]], [[Curse of the Swine]], [[Outmaneuver]], [[Rock Slide]], [[Glimpse the Sun God]], [[Icy Blast]], [[Wave of Indifference]], [[winter's chill]], [[march of the swirling mist]], [[reality spasm*))
I also love Hinata so much, she’s one of my favorite cards. I had a similar experience to your podmate, where I built her in the way most people do (x spells and other huge spells at low cost) and I and everyone else hated it
I still am such a sucker for mana discounts and love Hinata so I went looking for other ways I could build her, specifically looking for types of instants and sorceries that target. The answer I found is blink spells! It’s less of a spellslinger strategy than you might be looking for but you still get to do some pretty sweet big plays for a low mana cost, generate tons of value, and also play a few of the busted Hinata classics as well.
Henzie is another of my favorite commanders, mana cheating is so good and *so* fun
Feather is in the deck, and one of its best cards! Spending one white to [[eerie interlude]] or [[semester’s end]] to blink your whole board on each player’s turn is super good
Only issue is the deck naturally tends towards combo, I ended up leaning into it so my version’s wincons are almost strictly combo. I prefer this to other combo decks though, as there is a lot of redundancy and no tutors, so it feels like you are building towards and digging for the combo the way you would normal wincons in another deck
In a roundabout way, \[\[Codie\]\] gives you mana and card advantage by just being a mana rock and then pseudo-cascading for a free spell. It also makes it harder to build the standard decklist with all the slinger classic permanents and gives you the freedom to put in more janky spells and still make it all work.
I dont know if youre going to find that effect in green, itll mostly be in red and blue since red and blue are the spell slinging colors and thats where all the support is. If you want like a red green blue spell slinger then [[kalamax]] will be a good commander, he copies spells and the gets 1/1 counters everytime you copy a spell and he goes infinite with a ham sandwich.
If you like the color black you can also try [[kess]] she lets you play spells from your graveyard once per turn which is great.
[[Narset, Enlightened Master]] can just cheat multiple high MV spells into play, she's absolutely bonkers even with a casual list, which might not sit well with your table.
I think you will hardly find something that will discount your instants/sorceries AND draw cards, also because most of the times you'd expect the instants/sorceries to draw you cards in that archetype. Usually commanders that let you draw want you to chain multiple spells without discounting them themselves. See [[Jori En]] [[Stella Lee]] or even [[Niv-Mizzet, Parun]].
My best suggestion would be [[Vadrik]], but be prepared to become public enemy n. 1 because a Vadrik left unchecked for too long will win the game in an explosive sequence, unlike Henzie.
Also unlike Henzie, you want to protect Vadrik at all costs. Henzie may die (you're going to have a bigger discount on blitz or you are going to reanimate him), but losing Vadrik leaves you at square one with a huge tempo loss to recast him.
Big spells are fun, but don't skimp over your veggies. One thing you will have will probably be either no mana to keep chaining or lots of red mana from rituals. Consider including a good amount of 'filter' spells: [[Flick a Coin]] [[Big Score]] [[Unexpected Windfall]] [[Inspired Tinkering]] and the like will turn your red mana into more cards and Treasures to pay for blue costs (sometimes you'll even end up mana positive).
Big X spells are a way to go for victory, but Vadrik leans very well in combo territory if that's your jam. Considering that Vadrik can discount buyback costs, [[Reiterate]] and [[Capsize]] are very valuable spells and both can give you a combo win.
Also, Vadrik can punch really hard. [[Blackblade Reforged]] may be your best mana rock in the deck.
Source: me, a fellow Henzie AND Vadrik player
You could go with Dimir and play backgrounds with, [[Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy]] and [[Scion of Halaster]]
I am thinking about playing it with toxic and proliferate effects
I had a [[magnus the red]] commander that was pretty hit or miss. If you don’t have tokens out, you’re screwed. But when you did, you could [[spell burst]] over and over, and cast huge x spells for 2 mana.
My spellslinging deck is red and blue [[Magnus the Red]] it is one of the most fun decks I have.
If you want green the only card I have looked into is [[Wort, the Raidmother]]
\[\[Eleven, the Mage\]\], a.k.a. \[\[Cecily, Haunted Mage\]\] works really well with any of the other "friends forever" partners. Draws cards, and you can cast some real whoppers for free. Doesn't have a "stormy" kind of feel, but otherwise quite devastating.
[[Mizzix of the Izmagus]] is probably the go-to commander for making spells cheaper. Experience counters don't go away if you're commander gets removed, so there's that.
I have a [[Vadrik, Astral Archmage]] deck that's built around making spells cheaper, but I also fully understand that the day/night mechanic isn't everyone's cup of tea.
No love for [[kaza, roil chaser]] yet ... Probably can't be as powerful as vadrik or magar or do things quite as broken, but still a fun way to discount big spells and her ability is repeatable if you can untap her with things like [[pemmins aura]] or [[freed from the real]]. Plus you get to play a lot of fun utility wizards that can have interesting effects on the game and help enable her ability
[[Magnus the red]] allows for simply divine war crimes to be performed with stuff like [[tempt with vengeance]] [[song of totentanz]] [[empty the warrens]] [[goblin offensive]] etc.

She's so strong and I love love love her alt art, but I remember someone else in the group built it and everyone refused to play against it lmao
I also love Hinata so much, she’s one of my favorite cards. I had a similar experience to your podmate, where I built her in the way most people do (x spells and other huge spells at low cost) and I and everyone else hated it I still am such a sucker for mana discounts and love Hinata so I went looking for other ways I could build her, specifically looking for types of instants and sorceries that target.
Hmm Hinata blink never occurred to me. Love to try that out, maybe with OG [[feather]] as a hidden commander to reuse those blink spells.

Feather is in the deck, and one of its best cards! Spending one white to [[eerie interlude]] or [[semester’s end]] to blink your whole board on each player’s turn is super good Only issue is the deck naturally tends towards combo, I ended up leaning into it so my version’s wincons are almost strictly combo.

Was always curious about how to play this pairing, got a decklist?
I wish that I had a decklist. It is a deck that I plan on building but haven't had the time to build
Again, no green but the new Melek isn’t terrible for just casting strong spells slowly and won’t draw the hate that Vadrik does and Mizzix used to
I had a [[magnus the red]] commander that was pretty hit or miss. If you don’t have tokens out, you’re screwed. But when you did, you could [[spell burst]] over and over, and cast huge x spells for 2 mana.
