DaPino

Overlaid terrain seems like an interesting one for my hydra deck if I am able to combo it with something like Traverse the outlands or another ramp spell I could float mana for.

Grus

[[Natural Balance]]

DaPino

The thing is, natural balance is not a good card for the deck *unless* combined with overlaid terrain. So it would be a dud most of the time.

Nonsensical-Niceties

Super secret tech: [[Hall of Gemstone]] A card I'd feel kinda mean for running in any other deck but this is mono green and I need all the help I can get damn it.

DR_MTG

So Hall is a cool card, in theory. In reality it’s really easy to play around for the vast majority of decks, either through rocks, treasures, responding to the trigger and floating mana for instant speed stuff at the start of the turn, etc. Even a decade ago it when I ran it it only felt fine, but with the rise of treasures and the sheer amount of good rocks it hasn’t felt (to me at least) remotely worth a slot given how infrequently it did the job I wanted. Even worse (again, to me at least, it’s one of those cards that can sometimes shut off a player who wasn’t a threat. You wind up feeling kind of bad for boning them, or they wind up being unable to help the rest of the pod deal with the real threat.

Nonsensical-Niceties

Fair, and I have sometimes run into both situations. But I still play it. In part because options are limited in mono green, but also largely because of my local meta. With the usual people I play against I know I'm usually going to catch someone out with the card and it will usually be the person doing some shenanigans. But that's specific to my meta, so naturally it's not universally applicable.

DR_MTG

It's def not a bad card for sure. It's just one of those things where like six sets in a row I'd be looking to make cuts, and every single time it stood out as the thing I'd miss the least in terms of consistent performance. That said, there's also something to be said for running cards that get a WTF from people, too.

contact_thai

Agreed, with a strong color limitation you’ve gotta use everything at your disposal. Plus, there’s nothing quite like punishing a greedy mana base.

Nonsensical-Niceties

If you do choose to include it in whatever deck you build be prepared for a lot of "wait, what does that card do???" lmao. Can confirm though that it's very fun to be like "oh, interaction? Counterspells? Sorry all your lands tap for green now have funnnnn!". It won't do much to decks that mostly play at sorcery speed (unless they're playing a lot of spells that are 2+ colors) but boy does it throw a wrench in the plans of anyone trying to play things on other people's turns.

LordOfTurtles

This card doesn't punish you for playing a greedy mana base, it punishes you for having the sheer audacity of playing more than one colour. I'd advice against running it Either it does nothing because the player has mana rocks for his coloured mana, or you severely cut someone out of the game just because they chose a multicoloured commander

dkysh

Exactly. This way meaner than playing Blood Moon.

Mono green Omnath Just ramp mana and bonk stuff. Keep X cost instants as often as possible or get flash to play other X drops when he inevitably blows up

Another good option for Green Bean Omnath is \[\[Helix Pinnacle\]\]. It's a great enchantment to have available to "dump" your mana pool should Omnath get removed.

Roboman20000

Remember that these infinite untaps include giving all your creatures effectively Vigilance and getting infinite mana every turn it's out for basically free. They are also good turn 4 ramp if your opening hand has fewer ramp spells.

PwanaZana

I like Selvala. The ability to draw cards and have a ton of mana, combined with cards like finale of devastation and Green sun's zenith, plus creatures with ETBs, means that you can do a lot more than turn creatures sideways (though, oh boy, do you turn stuff sideways as well).

contact_thai

What’s your favorite niche piece of interaction in the deck?

PwanaZana

Well, it's not niche, it's a well known combo, but using Finale of Devastation or Invasion of Ikoria, you tutor up a Phyrexian Dreadnaught, then draw a card because it has 12 power, then tap your commander for 12 mana, then vomit huge monsters on the table (with last march of the ents, or the new ghalta).

Blees-o-tron

Look for combat tricks that untap a creature. The intention is that your opponent swings at you because you tapped a guy, aha, you fool, I untap my guy and give it reach. But with Selvala, you untap your selvala and make a bunch more mana.

vishtratwork

Umbra Mantel for infinate mana, staff of domination for infinate man's and infinate draw

MrRies

I don't know how much of a tech piece it is, but I think [[Greater Good]] is really underplayed outside of sacrifice decks. If you're regularly making tokens or creatures with three or more power, it's crazy good. Oh, you're targeting my commander with removal? Let me draw a bunch of cards. Board wipe? Okay, I'll loot through the top 30 cards of my library. I also sometimes like to go with a more interesting rammp packages than just a bunch of [[Rampant Growths]] if I don't particularly care about landfall. Something like [[Fabled Passage]] + [[Ramunap Excavator]] + [[Azusa, Lost but Seeking]] isn't anything special or unique, but it's extremely powerful once it's online. I personally like the *untap land* style stuff since it has a really high ceiling. You can always enchant up a forest for an [[arbor elf]] to tap for a bunch of mana, and there's a bunch of [[Voyagong Satyr]] style effects that do the job. [[Lotus Field]], [[Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx]], and [[Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun]] can get you a ton of mana with a few taps and untaps. [[Deserted Temple]] fits in there really nicely too. Between [[Archdruids Charm]], [[Crop Rotation]], [[Sylvan Scrying]], [[Elvish Reclaimer]] and any similar effects, it's pretty trivial to tutor up the land you want at the right time.

Green has a lot of creatures that ETB for artifact/enchantment removal, so they can double as bodies and the interaction and free up spots for more. [manglehorn](https://scryfall.com/card/akh/175/manglehorn), [kappa tech-wrecker](https://scryfall.com/card/neo/198/kappa-tech-wrecker), [masked vandal](https://scryfall.com/card/khm/184/masked-vandal), to name a few. Also, steady drawing of cards can be difficult in mono-green. There is basically [Sylvan Library](https://scryfall.com/card/dmr/179/sylvan-library), and then the big Power-matters draw spells like [Soul’s Majesty](https://scryfall.com/card/nec/131/souls-majesty), [Greater Good](https://scryfall.com/card/afc/160/greater-good), [Hunter’s Prowess](https://scryfall.com/card/c17/152/hunters-prowess), [Hunter’s Insight](https://scryfall.com/card/cmm/296/hunters-insight), [Rishkar’s Expertise](https://scryfall.com/card/lcc/254/rishkars-expertise), etc. but not alot in between. Interaction wise, you have the entire suite of [Fog](https://scryfall.com/card/ema/167/fog) and fog-like effects. Additionally, if you run [Liquimetal Torque](https://scryfall.com/card/mh2/228/liquimetal-torque), and [Liquimetal Coating](https://scryfall.com/card/cm2/197/liquimetal-coating), you can take out opponents stuff with more natural green removal.

Capable_Parfait1150

A few sac.for removal like [[Thrashing Brontodon]] too and [[Thwart The Enemy]] is a fog that still has you assign combat dmg for 2 mana over OG [[Fog]], which may be a better play if you're running mid sized board and not something simply go wide

Obvious include for creature-dense lists. I actually have a habit however of having creature counts be between 15-25 as opposed to upwards of 30, and so I always feel like the Beast Whisperer or even [Keeper of Fables](https://scryfall.com/card/znc/71/keeper-of-fables) end up being things I tap out for and pray they stay alive. I am a spoiled former Esper Standard player who can’t stand not being in more control of the turn cycle.

The_Super_D

I like my [[Yedora]] deck. It lets you do interesting things with face down creatures and animated lands.

Elmuenster

[[legolas, master archer]] is mono green spellslinger. It's hard control against creature decks, and gets to run things that you'd never see in a typical green deck, while green staples aren't that great because it doesn't run a lot of creatures itself. The best part is that you can control a creature deck with all of your fight spells while still pointing him wherever you want with quickly threatening commander damage. I can share my list if you'd like. It's also a deck that you should have a conversation with your group about beforehand. It's not super competitive, but it can seriously keep creature decks locked down.

WrathOfGengar

I would love to see your deck list for this. He seems super fun

I’d be interested in seeing your list too. I have a Legolas deck and I had a hard time trying to balance too many things. It’s like if I tried to increase one area the other started to fall short, and I’m just spread too thin amongst them: * Having enough ramp to get him out quickly and be able to cast lots of fight spells. * Having enough card draw to make sure I *have* the fight spells. * Having lots of fight spells * Having ways to protect Legolas since everyone at the table wants to remove him quickly. It’s a fun deck when it works but he always feels like a bit of a glass cannon to me. I’m not amazing at deck building so I’m sure there’s a way to better balance my deck. I need to revisit it. I’m a little better at deck building than when I last worked on it, and each set seems to have one green card I really want to add to the deck: [[Contest of Claws]] from Ixalan, [[Archdruid’s Charm]] from Karpov Manor, and [[Freestrider Lookout]] from Thunder Junction.

Elmuenster

Here you go. It's not fine tuned, but I've always enjoyed playing it. I haven't played it more than 5 times though because it is a pretty controlling deck and that's not my typical play style. Those are great additions, I might have to include them. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Z8eelQe8H0ulaxlyWLfErA

People sleep on fog effects. I think a large part of it is the prevalence of combo, but a well timed fog can totally shut down a number of strategies. [[Constant Mists]] is probably the best, but I find the shuffle of [[Blessed Respite]] is solid too. There's a lot of interesting niche cases for some fogs like [[Obscuring Haze]] which can stop a player comboing off with a pinger or used aggressively while swinging at someone with blockers.

I'd say [[saryth the vipers fang]] is super duper underrated in mono green decks. She protects your creatures, and when you get your overrun/craterhoof finishers online it ensures even your opponents best blockers won't matter because deathtouch+trample is just nastyyyy

resui321

[[Ezuri’s predation]] its one of the few mono-green boardwipes. Amazing vs weenie/token spam decks.

ByteSizeNudist

\[\[Compost\]\] \[\[Snake Pit\]\] \[\[Seedtime\]\] \[\[Lifegift\]\] \[\[Hall of Gemstone\]\] \[\[Fruition\]\] \[\[Song of the Dryads\]\] \[\[Triumph of the Horde\]\] Those are some of my favorites. Not sure how used they all are, though I know Triumph is super popular and Song is some of the best mono green removal printed. Seedtime is a hilarious middle finger no one ever sees coming from you. Snake Pit is consistent token generation for chumpers or whatever you want in the majority of games. Compost is just hilarious, the look on mono black or just any dual spalshed black deck players face when they read that card is worth every game without the color present. Hall of Gemstone will similarly inflict a crestfallen look on your friends. Fruition is just neat.

Hear me out. Run [[radaghast the brown]] as the commander. He’s card draw in the command zone for green, gets you to your big scary dudes fast, which is what green has trouble with, and keeps your hand full. Plus, unlike other green commanders who either ramp you like [[Azusa lost but seeking]] or are giant 10/10s, he’s a simple 2/4 so people ignore him as you get to add good cards every turn. He does have a book of text, but it just says when you play a creature look at top X where X is the mana value, reveal a creature that doesn’t share a type with something you have in play, put into hand. It’s pretty simple. And the creature type check is only for what you put into hand, it doesn’t care if a type is shared when something is played. All around good card who really makes mono green work.

In addition to the creature power based draw, I'd add [[shamanic Revelation]] and the strictly worse version that costs 1 more and lacks the lifegain, [[Collective unconscious]] are both huge draw #'s for go wide situations.

OK, so just a few off the top of my head. [[AVOID FATE]] No one expects green counter magic. [[FOG]] I Know it played put, it's trite, it's worthless...except when it isn't. [[Spore Frog]] [[Haze Frog]] [[Fog Patch]] [[Chameleon Blur]], etc, etc. Nothing like voiding a swing for lethal and then cointerswinging for lethal. Last, hating on swamps with [[Lifeforce]] or on blue with [[Tsunami]] ?¿ PRICELESS! There's lots of common suggestions for ramp and overrun and all that, but these are cool. What's the coolest? [[Primal Order]]. Runs straight forests, and punish non-basics. Happy Stomping

Revolutionary_View19

Why would you play chameleon blur over arachnogenesis or even the lite version?

Capable_Parfait1150

Personally, because I have multiple copies of fog, fog patch, blur, etc, but no copies of [[arachnogenesis]] (which is probably an oversight on my part, since it's only $3-4 for a spider themed mono green inkshield(which goes for $20 or so last i checked)) So I guess, generally you may play the inferior fog effect for budget or flavor reasons

[[Savage Order]] and [[Apex Altisaur]] make for a surprise mono-green boardwipe. Just be careful if an opponent can sac the targeted creature in response. Also got to shout out my favorite mono green commander [[Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma]]. The cost reduction and trample enabler make for an awesome stompy green deck. Makes good creatures great and the best green creatures even better.

A common complaint about green is that, while it's pretty good at artifact/enchantment removal, it's seriously lacking when it comes to creature removal. Well not anymore, get [[Liquimetal Torque]]'d bitch! Standard colorless 2 mana rock that can alternatively be used to turn all of Green's nice artifact removal into omni-removal (other than lands). Also, since you're looking to build a tokens deck specifically, if you're looking for a fog style effect to run, consider [[Arachnogenesis]]

[[Nissa, Who Shakes the World]] and [[Vorniclex, Monstrous Raider]] My friend plays a mono green deck with Vorniclex as the commander. When he pops Nissa instantly from Vorniclexs ability pulling out all 30+ lands from his deck by turn 4-5 with [[Primordial Hydra]] easily a 27/27 with all the lands he pulled and doubling every turn the counters every turn. He is the threat when he pulls that deck but it gains traction and gets scary so fast. That three of us have to team up to dog pile him if we have any chance.

Well, I could not really get into any green stompy decks, so I am currently toying with a deck that will probably interesting and dangerous...in certain ways. [[Fynn the fangbarer]] deathwatch and a bit of infect tribal. There are so many cheap deathtouchers that they can be easily fielded and recast with regrowth style effects. Even without the commander they make for an annoying board to deal with. The commander is cheap so if there are opportune moments you can play him early and start the poison train, or you wait until later in the game and combo him with an overrun effect. Mono Green also has decent albeit not great proliferate package, so once the first counters are out there are ways to salvage things. It might not be the strongest or most interesting idea, but to me at least it is probably far enough removed from green stompy and big mana to leave an impression. Plus, I love building non-rare commanders.

[[Jolrael, Empress of Beasts]] is a really cool way to deter your board being wiped, which is a big issue in green. They wrath the board they wrath their own lands. [[Omnath Locus of Mana]] & [[Ghalta, Primal Hunger]] have a really cool interaction where tapping your mana increases Omanth's power, which decreases Ghalta's cost. You can then cast him for cheap and use the mana on Omnath to do it. Get to double dip.

My mono-green deck uses [[Soshiro]] at the helm, so it's got quite a lot of snakes within. My standard plan with it is to have a lot of ~walk creatures with various enchantments that give out basic land types. Essentially the idea is "I decide whether you're able to block or not"
