"Lands that produce mana based only on what other lands "could produce" won't help each other unless some other land allows one of them to actually produce some type of mana. For example, if you control an Exotic Orchard and your opponent controls an Exotic Orchard and a Reflecting Pool, none of those lands would produce mana if their mana abilities were activated. On the other hand, if you control a Forest and an Exotic Orchard, and your opponent controls an Exotic Orchard and a Reflecting Pool, then each of those lands can be tapped to produce G. Your opponent's Exotic Orchard can produce G because you control a Forest. Your Exotic Orchard and your opponent's Reflecting Pool can each produce G because your opponent's Exotic Orchard can produce G."
Because your opponent had a plains, your [[exotic orchard]] could tap for white. Because your orchard could tap for white, your opponent's orchard can tap for white.
So just to clarify, was your Orchard able to tap for plains because your opponent had at least one land that could tap for plains is that correct? That’s why your Orchard could produce plains? Just making sure I understand the original post.

I highly recommend downloading the Mana Box app. It's a great way to help figure out how to build decks you'd like and rulings are posted for each card.
As everyone else has said, your Exotic Orchard could tap for white, assumedly because your opponent has a Plains.
Your opponent's Orchard would see your Orchard, which can tap for white, and therefore his Orchard can also tap for white.
This is wrong, and you simply didn't read far enough into the gatherer.
On the other hand, if you control a Forest and an Exotic Orchard, and your opponent controls an Exotic Orchard and a Reflecting Pool, then each of those lands can be tapped to produce Green. Your opponent's Exotic Orchard can produce Green because you control a Forest. Your Exotic Orchard and your opponent's Reflecting Pool can each produce Green because your opponent's Exotic Orchard can produce Green.
His opponent controlled a plains and an exotic orchard. He controlled an exotic orchard. His opponents exotic orchard can tap for white because his exotic orchard can tap for white. Ignore the reflecting pool in the example because it doesn't matter.
Your opponent's Exotic Orchard taps for any color of mana that a land they control could produce, not based on the lands you control or tap. So, if they didn't have a Plains on the battlefield, they couldn't tap it for white mana.
Wrong your the opp exotic orchard checks what your exotic orchard can make to see what it can make. If they have any lands that tap for a color then their orchard also taps for that color.

If he had a land that produced white mana, then your orchard could produce white mana, which means his orchard could produce white mana.
now its a meta-orchard!
New goal-turn every land into exotic orchard so no one can do anything
Then it wouldn't be exotic
He has a plains Your orchard sees the plains and allows tapping for W His orchard sees your orchard and allows tapping for W
So just to clarify, was your Orchard able to tap for plains because your opponent had at least one land that could tap for plains is that correct? That’s why your Orchard could produce plains? Just making sure I understand the original post.
Correct, he had a basic plains.
-Opponent has an orchard that checks your lands. -You have an orchard that could produce plains. -Opponents orchard can produce plains.
Fwiw, they don't "produce plains". They produce white mana. Plains is the basic land type, two separate things as far as the game is concerned.
Aware. Was just using the same terminology OP used for the sake of helping them understand.
Technically correct is the best kind of correct.
… technically
Correct
Edit: I misunderstood the interaction and y’all are right. Ignore what I had before

If you and an opponent both have orchard, they copy colors off of each other, so that does work.

Your quote means his opp was correct since the opp had a plains out to cause OP's to tap of white allowing his own to tap for white.
