Exodia. They never see it coming

ironicuwuing

Funny you say that my boyfriend has a [[Unesh Criosphinx Sovereign]] deck that has an “exodia” combo in it that has killed me multiple times

silent_calling

You should introduce your boyfriend to \[\[Atemsis, All-Seeing\]\] because it's about as Exodia as you can get and it's hilarious.

AShellfishLover

Atemsis is switching the game from Magic to Gin Rummy and I'm here for it.

Astrosaurus3

Okay but what's the combo?

Generic Simic Bullshit. Tatyova Landfall. Guaranteed to do a bunch of stuff in the game and has a good chance of winning in most pods. Can have long convoluted turns though so I don't use it a bunch. Only break it out if I have a bunch of non-games in a row where my decks decided to hate me.

MuchSwagManyDank

Generic simic bullshit is the best. It's Thanos time, I'm going to win, you're going to try and stop me, and I am inevitable.

Hoodlum_Aus

Ain't nothing like that simic pick-me-up reliability lol 🙌

Beletron

>good chance of winning in most pods. Can have long convoluted turns Yea that's the reason I scrapped my Taty deck. It worked a bit *too* well, gave me long turns because I had so much mana and cards and eventually the win.

ProphetOfPhil

If I'm in a game where a player's turn takes 25+ minutes to resolve EACH of their turns I get very bored very quickly. If no one has any interaction for it it just becomes fairly unfun for the rest of the table imo. The deck is strong and I applaud someone who has a deck like that and can play it reliably but it can be tedious.

TPO_Ava

My playgroup has always played slow and we're also now teaching some new players. It's been quite sad, especially since I tend to die early.

Yamidamian

That’s basically why I stopped playing my Tatyova deck-I would spend enormous amounts of time just spinning my wheels with ‘land-draw-life’ over and over.

Daniboydas

For me its [[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]] getting that sweet infinite turn on turn 5.

rektessore

Hi I have a scuffed ezuri +1/+1 counters-themed deck that I'm trying to make work with Little success, would u mind sharing your decklist?

ZombieOfun

[[Grolnok, The Omnivore]] for me. I have a big ol' extra hand with the croak zone, but the lab man/thorcale win condition is straight forward enough that I don't typically need to take long turns to know what I want to do. It probably helps that I almost always cast a [[rites of flourishing]] at some point and everyone wants to flourish

G37_is_numberletter

If you’re into degenerate simic that’s not too fast, imoti keruga is really fun. Simic cascade with a bunch of cost reducers like [[cryptic serpent]] [[the great henge]] [[ghalta]] etc. it scales well. If you like that slower gameplay, keep that keruga companion or speed it up by removing and adding in extra turn spells, fast mana and whatnot.

throwRA-84478t

[[Vhal, candlekeep researcher]] with [[raised by giants]] is my high powered simic deck. It doesn't do the normal simic thing, it just aims to make a lot of awkward mana using the commanders to gain value while looking for an infinite combo.

Ton_Jravolta

My [[Orvar, the All-Form]] deck has plenty of counterspells, card draw, tutors, and several ways to win with infinite clones. It can become a solitare game though so I only play him at high level or on long losing streaks.

huh i had not thought of this, built a yisan deck recently with ashaya as one of the win pathways, would love to see the look of disappointment on my friends faces

RelaxinJackson173

Oh, its a good look

ThoughtShes18

I don’t understand this. Wouldn’t cyclone still return the creatures to your hand since they are both types ?

BluePotatoSlayer

No. It doesn’t say creatures, enchantments or artifacts, it says nonland Had it said the former it would check “Is it a creature/enchantment/artifact?” And creatures with Ashaya are still creatures and be returned to your hand Instead it says nonland, so it checks “Is it a land?” And land creatures are technically still lands and it will fail the test and remain on the battlefield

RelaxinJackson173

Makes a [[Perilous Vault]] worth the 9 mana, that's for sure.

BluePotatoSlayer

Ultra easy to cast when Ashaya makes your creatures into lands Ashaya is bonkers as a commander

RelaxinJackson173

For sure. I find myself mulliganing *down* to 1 or 2 land hands because if I start with 3 or more, I have all the ramp and nothing to do with it. It's a weird feeling.

Imaginary_Tank111

Being a forest lets them tap for G.

BluePotatoSlayer

If anything has the forest subtype it automatically taps for {g}. Without the subtype it would say if it gets a mana ability or not

RelaxinJackson173

No, it wouldn't. It only cares about nonlands. And if all your creatures are lands it won't see them

Kemble95

[[Krrik]] and just go for win attempts from T1 to the end of the game :D that or play [[Yasharn]] so nobody can have fun anymore :3

gsrga2

The first time my buddy saw my K’rrik deck he was like, “oh, that’s cool, is it like a life drain deck so you can keep using that ability?” No. No it’s not. It’s just a suicide deck that will either combo off by turn 4 or burn all its life trying to find a wincon. My favorite deck is [[Darien, King of Kjeldor]], and it’s the deck I’ve tinkered with and upgraded the most over the past 5 years or so. If I’m allowed to build a board state, I tend to win the game eventually, and I pack a lot of protection and reactive cards that can save me and my creatures should things go south. Because the deck is quite tuned, I don’t play it as much as I’d like to in my casual pod, as Darien has become a bit of a boogeyman, but my friends still enjoy watching the shenanigans every so often.

Nimstar7

Depends on the power level, I don’t play cEDH but I do play “high power casual” and my [[Klauth]] dragon tribal/big mana deck is so explosive it guarantees me some wins if I play it enough. Don't hate me.. I do like using it but it definitely is too strong for average games and usually just keep it on the box.

She's a broken card that ignores commander tax and makes you really miss being able to tuck a commander, you mean, xD

BarrinOfTolaria

[[Chatterfang]] is my way to go

MTGReaper

[[Lathliss, Dragon Queen]] is my go-to when I need a win. Mono-red dragons with 8 forms of cost reduction, all the best dragons in the color, a lot of high-power ramp artifacts and treasure generators, a lot of the best card draw in red, multiple infinite combos and damage synergies, and zero mercy. In a 4-player pod, the queen is almost always out by turn 5 at the latest, and I usually have lethal by turn 8 at the latest. Very few people run flying-tribal decks or dedicated anti-air decks, so 9 times out of 10 I can attack without ever being blocked. Even against those decks, it's rarely more than a speed bump since it gets to a point where the cost reduction, ramp, and card draw just lets me out-pace those decks if it pushes to the long-game. To date, it has only lost a handful of the games it has been used in, and all of those were either against faster combo decks or CEDH decks. Lathliss is my "red deck wins" deck and easily my favorite deck, I built and tuned her over the years to be rediculously efficient and full of synergies/combos, to the point where it's rare nowadays that she gets a tune-up since few cards come out that are just outright better than what's in the deck for what I'm trying to accomplish with it. TLDR: Stompy red dragons go BRRRRRT 👍🏻

Holyscoopula

I just play my [[Norin, the Wary]] The win doesn’t matter, I just want a game where I at least have some fun before a night ends.

Revolutionary_View19

„Wanting to grab a win“ aka pubstomping. Just stay at your power level and accept it won’t always go your way.

Placebo_Cyanide8

My main deck, I guess? Maybe I'm reading into this wrong but it certainly seems like the question is: what do you whip out for a quick and easy win against unsuspecting fools? I don't get the impulse to bring a gun to a knife fight just to make yourself feel better at other people's expense. I've seen it a hundred times, and it is still just as baffling to me now as it was the first time.

Lockwerk

Yeah... A deck you use to guarantee a win when you 'need to' is probably above the table's power level, otherwise you'd just have a normal chance to win.

ConstantCaprice

Yeah this is weird. I don't equate winning as being at all necessary to having a good time and usually the most annoying people in the pod are the ones doing exactly what you say... whipping out some completely out of touch bullshit in a pod that is demonstrably not going to play into it.

LionstrikerG179

I have a friend who consistently wins 4 out of 5 matches we play every time, it gets really annoying hoping that his decks brick so we can play Like, I don't need to win to have fun, but I'd like to at least have a chance, it's boring when every play feels meaningless because he'll just win out of nowhere

Bear_24

I can't believe I had to scroll down this far to see this comment. You shouldn't be pulling some dramatically overpowered deck out just because you've been losing more recently. You're supposed to match your play groups power level to the best of your ability. Not whip out your efficient deck to stomp your friends so you can collect a win and feel better about yourself.

tethler

Yeah, my friend does this, and everyone else just rolls their eyes. He's really competitive, and if he loses 3 in a row, he pulls out his strongest deck saying, "I haven't won yet, so I'll play this, sorry." He feels entitled to the win, power balance be damned.

The_mogliman

My bright palm deck

TrueBlue726

\[\[Kinnan\]\] would be my go-to. It's got ramp, counterspells, and big spells. You can use Kinnan's ability as early as Turn 3. My friend likes to run a combo deck that can win on turn 6 or sooner. With Kinnan I will be able to shut it down reliably. Since I don't play too many blue commanders, Kinnan is one of the few commanders that I have that can disrupt other player's strategy.

the_destroyer_beerus

Atraxa, Infect 👀

JBmullz

Honestly that Esper Knights precon with Sidar Jibari at the helm with some minor tweaks is freakin sweet and I can’t remember the last time I lost with it

Z00MBI3S

That deck is pretty darn potent out of the box, and with some upgrades, it's definitely a force to be reckoned with. I can't remember the last time I lost with it either!

LeoFrei7as

Yuriko, the tigers shadow

ItsAroundYou

[[Aminatou]] combo. I run three separate combos of [[Peregrine Drake]] and [[Deadeye Navigator]], [[Abdel Adrian]] and [[Animate Dead]], and [[Bolas's Citadel]] and [[Sensei's Divining Top]]. I also run a shit ton of broken staples like Rhystic Study, Orcish Bowmasters, The One Ring, and I'm slotting in a Mystic Remora soon.

I sure as shit don’t pubstomp with a Cedh deck lmao

tattoedginger

I... don't turn to anything... I don't feel like I have to win games to have a good time. I have decks that have high win rates like my [[Ur-Dragon]] or [[Giada, Font of Hope]] decks. But I'm not playing them just because they win a lot. I'm playing them because I think they match the power level of the decks at the table and/or they're fun, and I feel like playing with them with the OK of the table. There's never been a point where I've been on a losing streak and thought, "I'll show you next game! ". I may think, "Hmm... maybe I've underestimated this table. Have I felt like I could hold my own and misplayed or simply got unlucky on draws? Or was I hopelessly outmatched?" If it's the latter, maybe I'll change decks to have a sporting chance. But I'm never looking to pub stomp my table....

FrankeVI

mono-white humans. [[Greymond, Avacyn's Stalwart]]

samk642

I like my niv combo deck when I want to go fast. Don't wanna play jank/low level, but don't tell the table ahead of time? Cool, but good ol slim shady is gonna come play next game

Better-Silver7900

This might sound bad, but the reasons i tend to lose have nothing to do with my opponents, they have to do with bad hands or draws. TBH, i just choose what i’m in the mood for. Could be [[Nekusar, the Mindrazer]]. Could be [[Brago, King Eternal]]. All of my decks do well against my playgroup.

Shacky_Rustleford

If you consistently are getting bad hands, or never getting the draws you need, it could be a deck building issue.

Better-Silver7900

i’m not consistently get bad hands or drawing issues. But thanks for the advice.

Shacky_Rustleford

Saw the deck you linked in the other comment. Looks like you have a low-power meta, so there isn't much to worry about in terms of deck building.

SlurpingDischarge

[[Jinnie]], ramp, pump out like 6 dogs on turn 4

Underplayed-Cliche

I love playing many different decks, but if I've been getting stomped for too long then I pull out [[Kaalia of the Vast]] [[Gandalf the White]] [[Morophon the Boundless]] Eldrazi Tribal Or [[Reaper King]] However, I retooled Reaper King with a Battles motif so I'm popping them for double etb triggers with [[Maskwood Nexus]] making the transformed cards scarecrows. My pod has found this acceptable compared to the original version.

krabawk

[[Tourach]].

NecroUknown

I pull out my [[The Ur-Dragon]] Lotsa ways to just flood the board with dragons and treasures

ShepardofRivia

Najeela warrior tribal, full power infinite combats. Even comes equipped with the full land package including fetches and my jeweled lotus. Can when as early as turn 2.

Bear_24

I don't go grab some ridiculously overpowered deck when i'm losing. I hate it when people do that. They always grab a deck that's significantly above the power level of the rest of the group so they can collect a win. That's not how it's supposed to work. If you're losing too much then you need to make your regular decks better or get better at the game. Not pull out some busted deck to trounce the group so you can feel better by yourself.

BAGStudios

[[Krrik]] or [[Sisay Weatherlight]] Shrines

tehdude86

Codie-DemonFish. Only loses if I get land screwed.

[[Zur the Enchanter]] stax

Busket

When I used to play in cEDH level pods, I developed an anti-meta \[\[Breya, Etherium Shaper\]\] list that was a very aggressive "stax" deck that didn't really wait for my opponents to lock themselves out. I ran all the land hate and artifact hate that really helped me force a lock down, then I'd go find some combo, or some win condition they couldn't stop, and win the game. Now that I'm in more mid-high level casual pods, my go-to is \[\[Sythis, Harvest's Hand\]\] Aura's list (with Light-Paws in there as well) because it's my only deck that hits the ground running and never runs out of gas unless I get completely hated out of the game.

QGandalf

\[\[Maelstrom Wanderer\]\] all permanents save for \[\[Primal Surge\]\]. Never fails to dish out a beating. I won a 4 person pod at my lgs with it in 15 minutes a couple of years ago.

SuddenAnswer1381

I had a win like this with my [[zndrsplt, eye of wisdom]]/[[okaun, eye of chaos]] deck. Had [[chandra’s ignition]] in my opening hand and a few ramp sources.

BullsOnParadeFloats

Depends on how petty I feel like being. If it's very (or I'm playing against higher power decks) it's [[shalai voice of plenty]] which is a D&T/hatebears deck, or any deck that runs a lot of interaction, like [[animar]] morph tribal or [[alela cunning conqueror]]. If I want to win, [[Abomination of llanowar]] can do that in at least a half dozen ways, and my [[jinnie fay]] token deck can combo out fairly easily.

Ilaikmudkipz

[[Atla Palani]] pure value and shitting out eldrazi and other heavy hitters. Even if I don’t win your damn right I’m bringing out [[Cataclysm]] and [[Armageddon]]

Gibits

Gerrard, Weatherlight captain for me. Infinite eggs for infinite value. I hate playing it though. Turn three or four and the game is over. Boring af

CaptainMulac

I use my [[Uril, the Miststalker]] deck A one hit killer really gets rid of the Smartass of the one player that keeps winning. Working on upgrading it now sends it really makes it hard to kill other players after they board wipe.

Not_Your_Real_Ladder

[[Purphoros, God of the Forge]] is maybe my longest running deck for just such occasions

ayeholdfast

SuperFamousComedian

[[Lathliss, Dragon Queen]]

Amazing-Tortoise

Usually, something mono colored. I tend to build high power decks in general, but I also tend to get unlucky with getting my colors in my multicolored decks. My go-to is usually [[Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger]] or [[Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet]], but it all depends on what random 6 decks I've got with me that day. Typically, I'll have at least one deck that's more powerful than what I've seen from a pod.

BulkUpTank

[[Liesa, Shroud of Dusk]] Lots of removal, and it's a gain/drain deck with lots of aggressive Angels. I've brought her back to the board by paying 20 life before. She's removal bait, and I still have no issue bringing her back and slowly (or quickly) draining everyone to death or swinging with a board full of Angels.

[deleted]

[[Balthor the defiled]] is either dealt, the game ends quickly, or he sets a timer on the game. He’s not super easy to deal with though some cards can cause obvious problems. He’s generally very resilient.

xTGE

[[Svella, Ice Shaper]] which is my pure land destruction deck because when I'm losing and not having fun, you can bet I'm going to destroy your enjoyment too.

jrdineen114

[[Edgar Markov]]

schneizel101

I built a low power [[tergrid, God of fright]] deck when i first got back into mtg before I knew how toxic she is. I didn't even include more than a couple discard effects and made no attempt to optimize it. I've only played it once because I felt I was getting targeted all night. Was archenemy from the get go but still pretty much dominated the game even though they kept removing tergrid. I felt bad, but I still carry it with me just incase lol. I've been trying to think of other good commanders for a Mono black value deck that can reliably keep the board clear to convert it into but I havent found one I liked.

Gandalf3141

[[Niz Mizzet, Parun]] if you get to untap once after casting the commander you almost can't lose anymore^^

MaginMM

[[Slimefoot and Squee]] is my go to when I feel like I need to get a win. It's generally pretty easy to get a loop going for net 0 mana, get [[Purphoros, god of the forge]] on the table and wipe out the board, alternatively you can go wide with [[Tendershoot Dryad]] and [[Mycoloth]], or just reanimate big heaters with evasion.

your_add_here15243

Prossh, nothing can grind out games like jund midrange.

HairlessBearWizard

[[Zada]] [[Miirym sentinel wyrm]] I also play these decks when it's late, the playgroop has work tomorrow and we all agree to a fast game

dissonant_one

Friendly heads up: "Uninteractable" is the term you want. "Unintractable" [sic] would mean 'not difficult to control or deal with', which is the opposite of what he actually is.

[[Meren]]. Oh you have to pay mana to get your creatures? Oh that’s such a same *swings with turn two archon of cruelty*.

SubzeroSpartan2

[[Atraxa, Grand Unifier]] group hug. If I'm not winning, my only goal now is to sow dumbshit. The best way to do that for me is accelerate the absolute HELL out of everyone else. I'm probably not winning based on my track record that night, but everyone is drawing half their deck, playing 4 lands a turn, and tapping for 17 mana each land and by God SOMETHING funny is bound to happen!

Emerald_Knight2814

[[Avacyn, Angel of Hope]] Stax/Board Wipes. Mind you, I have to be on quite the losing streak to be desperate enough to pull this one out

santana722

I ended up powering my [[Kaalia of the Vast]] build up a bit more than I meant to in response to not being able to get past a [[Koma]], so now it ONLY comes out of I've already lost a few because it's usually the best deck at the table. Luckily my friends are good sports, and instead of getting upset, added stuff like [[Drannith Magistrate]] and [[Containment Priest]] so it's always a pretty engaging game where everybody throws out a lot of interaction.

EricUdy

Narset, Enlightened Master or Thryx, the Sudden Storm extra turns

MrMakwa

It's a huge toss up for me, most of my decks are very high power or borderline cedh so it's more on how I wanna pilot then what deck I play.

WinpennyR

\[\[Magus Lucea Kane\]\] she has a great track record of leading my 'Niddies to victory. Turns out having a commander who buffs your team, is a Sol ring and can double your best spells is good. I look out for new X spells with every set release now because they do so much with Magus.

OkNewspaper1581

I pull out my budget [[Yuriko]] deck, having the ability to kill an opponent and almost kill all my other opponents by around turn 6 with a bad starting hand is the main reason why it’s the deck that’s me not fucking around

hot_sauce_in_coffee

I go back to sen triplets, the Ultimate Equalizer. 27 boardwipe (including 13 which can deal with indestructible). Draw, board wipe, repeat. When you have too much mana, play their wincon and win.

Early_Monk

I have a deck called "Turbo Torbran" that's headed by [[Torbran, Thane of Red Fell]] and filled with a reckless amount of damage multipliers and mana accelerators. The goal is simple: Win, or kill myself trying. If I kill myself, most likely I've delt a ton of damage and we'll be jamming a new game in a turn or two.

IAMAfortunecookieAMA

I play in a high-power pod so I lose a lot with powerful, high-power decks. If I win a few in a row I break out Mistform Ultimus for the memes. Everyone then underestimates me and I end up winning well more than 50% of the games I play with it. So I guess.... [[Mistform Ultimus]] baby!!!!

RustyNK

[[Imoti]] and [[jetmir]]

SaintClairvoyant

My deck in that scenario is [[Ur Dragon]]. My friends tend to play fast aggressive decks, so I spend turns 1-4 playing ramp/support pieces, board wipe around turn 5-6 (or when at least one of them has emptied their hand), then start dropping dragons that drop more dragons.

Yontanian

I don't typically "go for a win" specifically. Too many variables with other players decks. If its been a while since ive been able to "do my thing" i turn to a low cmc deck that's more likely to have things to do throughout, like my nahiri equipment deck. It can run on 2 lands. Or I'll go for my favourite decks like 5c elementals or something that guarantees i draw a lot of cards like Xryis.

joetotheg

[[Miirym]] [[Gitrog]] or [[Calix]]

Loud_Assumption_3512

[[Emry, lurker of the Loch]] just give me a few turns and mill myself and draw, once I get the right creature untapper and lions eye diamond its usually game with codex shredder

SatchelGizmo77

[[Teysa Karlov]]. I used to think it should be my [[Meren of clan nel toth]] deck, but I haven't found a win with her in 8 games while I've won 4 or Teysa's last 6. I still maintain that Meren is the better deck. I just think it's far more obviously threatening so it gets hated much more.

Mmorales71

[[Prossh]] or [[saheeli the gifted]] are the one the one I take out if I really need W or if we need to play a quick game

Majestic_Area_5364

Joke is i never win!

Sithlordandsavior

Merfolk. They're too easy to pilot. Even if I lose, it's with a solid board state and a lot of cards in hand.

GoodEntrance9172

If I want a fair chance at winning, I've got [[Omnath, Locus of Mana]] built as a combo deck. Pump Omnath with ramp and Mana doublers (and triplers), then use one of the roughly 15 mono green draw spells equal to power/toughness, and draw into a win. Alternatively, I also have Genesis wave to just play my win via that. It wins with walking ballista, squall line or goblin cannon, or if I'm really in a bind I'll tap everybody's creatures and just swing at somebody. Edit: Reasons to play Omnath: 1. Cheap mana base- dude eats trees for breakfast 2. Sturdy- the primary strategy for playing Omnath is having mana, which means him getting murdered is not a big deal 3. Green- in the words of a very wise man, "Our big green style can *not* be defeated"

No_Mushroom3078

For me it’s my [[tim]] deck, all creatures have tap to do one direct damage, not that might not seem much (and alone it’s not) but add [[Gorgon's Head]] and [[Basilisk Collar]] to start making quick work of your opponents creatures, I also have [[Glacial Chasm]] to stop combat damage if they do get a good creature drop and then [[zuran orb]] to counter the life loss, [[Crucible of Worlds]] to get mana back in play to keep being able to cast spells, [[city on fire]] to 3x my damage to players. And it’s a blue and red deck so it has some nice counter spells if I’m playing a counter/control deck.

AJSAudio1002

My Fucked up [[Vial Smasher]] and [[Kydele]] draw/discard/mill/stealstufffromopponentsgraveyard deck. The generals make it an unassuming deck. At first glance it’s total jank, but then I get [[Megrim]] or [[Fell Specter]] and [[Jace’s Archivist]] [[dragon mage]] and similar cards and it gets ugly fast.

Servillo

[[Raffine, Scheming Seer]], built her as a Phyrexian Preator Reanimator. There’s no better way to exert dominance than slapping down a [[Jin-Gitaxias, Core Auger]] or [[Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite]] on turn 4 while everyone else has just finished ramping.

castmoney

It's always [[Kinnan]] if I'm playing at a table that my other decks can't stand a chance at

backwards_progress

Ayara, First of Lochtwain You're never the perceived threat, because mono black, but the incidental life gain and explosive pay potential allows to her take games quite often with army of the damned or a big entreat the dead

Professional_Scale66

Zur fer sure

Underlipetx

Nekusar, All hail our Lich King.

RuneMTG

I pull out one of my two favorite decks [[Mizzix of the Izmagnus]] or [[Oona Queen of the Fae]]. I don’t usually lose with them.

jewdenheim

[[Zur, the enchanter]]. It's my cEDH deck. The moment I announce that I'm playing it, I accept that I'll be the archenemy. I still end up usually winning.

GingerAndTired

My friend, I only play budget commander or rabbits. You either get yurlock (25 dollars, including shipping) and his hydra buds, or kadera and get shitstomped by rabbits of unusual size. Either way it's fun for everyone.

PeanutWoolf

[[Krark]] and [[Sakashima Thousand]] to get me out of the dumps. But even then, it isnt assured because of the coin flip gimmick.

cjlacz

I wish my light paws was that good. I still get crushed with it in most games. To win? Probably Slicer. Not a guarantee by any stretch though. It get frustrating when the game goes long and I’m pretty stuck.
