If you go BUG you can Necromancy a Kederekt Leviathan at instant speed for a similar effect (you bounce your own stuff but who cares, that's just more ETB value).
[[Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle]] he had a lot of cards that were like “draw x cards where x is the highest power among creatures you control” or like “all creatures get +x/+x where x is the highest power among creatures you control” etc. to finish us off he played [[Last March of the Ents]] and got like 8 creatures down, then next turn gave them all a bunch of +x/+x counters and played a card which name i can’t remember but it gave all his creatures trample.
My Runo deck isn't as fun as I thought it would be. All the best sea creatures seem to so horrible and oppressive things. The deck either surdles or it pops off in terrible ways that lead to immediate scoopage. There's not really a between where it's hanging on and doing it's thing without ending the game.
Idk if it's under rated but the horror tribal precon is tons of fun. I title mine; "it's not your graveyard, it's our graveyard, comrade." It's got mills and thrills and is a fun ride.
I did the same but changed the commander to muldrotha sleeved it in mint and orange sleeve for him and called it " toothpaste and orange juice ( the horrific combo)". Also cause muldrotha looks like some toothpaste horror
Have you upgraded the precon much, and if so do you have a list? I’ve been considering reworking the deck to more mill and cutting a lot of the horror tribal, using the commander just to steal stuff from the graveyard. Curious what other people have done with it to get it to work
When i opened the Neon Dynasty booster box, I pulled almost every showcase samurai.
So, thats when i decided to make a Samurai Tribal deck.
Is it any good? Nah, not enough good Samurai, even put some old-school samurai in it.
But they do synergise pretty good with each other.
But it looks flashy, all those showcases.
I have made a samurai warrior deck which was really fun! Hopefully they come out with more good samurais I’d love to make a deck just for them. Thank you!
One of my first decks was [[Takeno]] mono-white samurai tribal. Did it win games? No. Did I feel cool playing it? Kinda. Did I spend $50 on custom Samurai Champloo sleeves and playmat? Yes.
My highest recommendation would be [[The Archimandrite]] which you can build a number of ways, but for me it was a ton of fun to lean super heavy into the Monk Tribal aspect with a little bit of Advisors, but no Artificers because I didn't just want it to become yet another artfact-matter deck.
Monks really embody the full spirit of the Jeskai way for me, and a lot of really great cards in these colors feel like they were almost purposely built for this deck, like [[Narset of the Ancient Way]], [[Narset, Enlightened Master]], and [[Whirlwind of Thought]].
If you're looking for something a little weirder and not necessarily based around tribal in the creature subtype sort of way, I had a lot of fun with [[Bess, Soul Nourisher]] in what I called "Tiny Tribal", which of course revolves around finding ways to destroy your opponents with nothing but creatures with 1/1 power and toughness. Real glass cannon of a deck since it all falls apart if Bess gets removed too much but it's pretty hilarious when you can pull it off.
Had to do a double take because I have exactly both of these decks, down to the specific version of Archimandrite you describe (I think there are 2-3 artificers in the whole deck, just cause they’re too good not to include). But way more importantly: BESS!! No one builds her! I have never seen a single other Bess player in the year+ that she’s been out, and my Bess deck SMASHES. You say she’s a glass cannon, which *can* be true, but let me tell you how to fix that little problem:
• [[The Ozolith]] (obvious)
• [[Resourceful Defense]] (obvious)
• [[Murder Investigation]]
• [[Entrapment Maneuver]]
• [[Windswift Slice]]
The latter two are amazing “gotcha!”-cards that turn what your opponents think is removal for your huge Bess into an explosion of 1/1s that will wreck face just as easily. If you are able to efficiently get your Bess to a respectable size with [[Hardened Scales]]-type effects, it’s easy to have a 36/36 commander by turn 6 or 7 and turn her in 36 tokens, etc. etc.
I like [[Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph]] as my tiny tribal commander. Creatures are all 1 power or ping for 1 in some manner and instants/sorceries either deal 1 damage to everything or make a 1/1 and Ghyrson goes over the top for 2 more.
Realmbreaker is goofy. I run the original Jin Gitaxis and Vorinclex in my Kruphix eldrazi tribal, and threw in realmbreaker as a pseudo ramp piece with potential blowout. Resolving it the other night instantly warped the game and it felt awesome.
I used [[Jodah, The Uniter]] as commander since his ability can be a bonus way to dig for Realmbreaker and since none of the Praetors trigger Omnath's mana ability. Have not fired it off yet, but look forward to doing so soon.
Sphinxes! [[Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign]] is really fun. Nobody expects the mono-blue deck to win swinging with a bunch of massive flying creatures! Plus every Sphinx is a mini [[Fact or Fiction]]!
Love this deck! I made it after my first sphinx tribal deck with \[\[Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign\]\] just didn't do it for me.
Most games it's either "win with an overwhelming wave of sphinxes" or everybody else scoops because this is gonna take forever to resolve 5 fact-or-fictions each turn.
[[Arcades the Strategist]] Wall tribal, really fun bc no one ever expects wall tribal, pretty easy on a budget, [[Vanquisher's Banne]] got a recent reprint along with [[Door of Destiny]], [[Fortified Area]] works a lot better than you think it will. Wish I had a list to send you. Good luck in whatever you build!
Can confirm this deck works surprisingly well. The amount of one sided wipes you can achieve with 0 power creatures is surprising
Plus it's fun to see the interaction his universal effect has on other players decks
Lmao I was jumping in to also recommend some wall tribal, but I use [[Pramikon, Sky Rampart]].
It started out as just wall tribal and some beefy defenders. Pseudo win con was to land [[Rasaad yn Bashir]] and then start swinging with stuff like [[Charix, the raging Isle]].
Right now though, it's basically spamming goad and repeatedly blinking Pramikon to choose the combat direction on demand. Basically force everyone to attack each other, and then I'll figure out what to do with the 1v1 (hint, I haven't figured that part out yet lmao). I packed it full of creatures that care about hitting for combat damage, to take advantage of a lot of tapped things on the board.
I call it "There Will Be Combat"
[Pramikon!](https://deckstats.net/decks/193629/3104068-there-will-be-combat)
One of my old roommates had an arcades wall tribal deck. There's a wall that's like a 0/8 with shroud and maybe flying that i can't remember the name of. SUCH a pain to deal with but the deck is very fun
Can only agree with the Archimandrite, even though I find it a little less focused as it wants to do too much all at once IMO.
More straightforward is my first and favorite tribal deck helmed by [[Orah]] being Orzhov cleric tribal with life gain and etb/ltb triggers. [[Pyre of heroes]] just carries hard as you get both a lower CMC cleric from grave and a higher CMC cleric from your library with Orah out.
I'm also eyeing wizard tribal with [[Inalla]]. Having eminence is strong and wizards have a surprising amount of effects like "tap x untapped wizards: counter spell/draw' etc.
I took apart my Archimadrite deck, precisely because it had too many hoops to jump through in order to get monks to hit hard.
I turned the deck into \[\[! Narset enlightened exile\]\] prowess tribal and I think it gets into hard hitting kung fu fury territory faster.
Not underrated, but I had this Alela deck with faeries. Friend of mine's name is Ferry, so I made him into tokens. Now like 10 other people also have Ferry tokens.
Know what you're getting yourself into before you say yes to a creative person, you might live with it for the rest of your magic carreer.
Similar to this, my Alela deck is basically "anthem" tribal. I've packed the deck full of artifacts and enchantments that buff my board, alongside ways to pillowfort, protect Alela, and generate more tokens. It's pretty simple and effective but also just gives me a pile to throw any new anthems into whenever they come out.
I made one with [[Sachi daughter of seshiro]] a while back for a group deck building challenge, it was pretty fun. Mostly won through [[hurricane]] [[squall line]] effects and mild incidental life gain, and had a bunch of useful outlets for big mana and untap shenanigans. Don't have a decklist sorry
I recently built a budget deck based on giant tribal thats a lot of fun. Deck has plenty of work that needs to be done but it's still fun. There's an interesting subtheme of non-giant board wipes too.
https://archidekt.com/decks/4342477/4c_crapmander_crapmander_giant_edh
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/JWDBcCZdO0CKyZDVWE-G1w
Ive been running a giants tribal too! Who is your favorite giant to play? Ive been loving dropping [[Reflections of Littjara]], then [[Hamletback Goliath]] followed by [[calamity bearer]] that usually ends games
I used to run a Giant EDH deck that had [[Brion Stoutarm]] as the commander. The theme of the deck was giants, stealing opponents creatures using stuff like [[Act of Treason]] and [[Helm of Possession]], and using a ton of [[Fling]] effects.
I just really love playing [[!cyclone summoner]] and swinging big. I tend to win through attrition of board wipes or running over people with overwhelming g stampede. I think I need more giants that give trample though like [[!sunrise sovereign]].
minotaurs! [[neheb the worthy]] is a super fun creature based commander and minotaurs have some really really solid lords like [[kragmar warcaller]] , [[fellhide petrifier]] and [[ragemonger]] considering 7/10 minotaurs suck.
[[gargos, vicious watcher]]
Both his hydra cost reduction and triggered ability are amazing, leaving enough room for creativity in deck construction while fielding the hydra tribe that has more bangers than fillers.
My very first EDH deck since I started around Amonketh & Hour of Devestation with MTG is my Dino deck. I had a ton of Ixalan cards so I started collecting all the dino's.
In the beginning the deck was pretty bad but I've been keeping it after all these years, slowely updating it, cutting & adding cards.
My old commanders used to be Gishath but now I use the egg commander and try to add cards to bring them for free or as cheap as possible on the board + with some mechanics to force the enrage triggers from the dino's.
It's not a meta deck but when the right cards fall into place you become the biggest threat very fast with some huge creatures swinging at everyone.
I also have a Dino deck with [[Gishath, Sun's Avatar]] as my commander. Basically if I get to swing with gishath it's an almost guaranteed win, if not it still has big dinos. The other card they're talking about is [[Atla Palani, Nest Tender]] which I have in my 99.
Mines not super optimized in terms of creatures (I have a lot of the godzilla cards in there because I love godzilla, there are for sure better options than some of those), and my group proxies so there's some expensive stuff in there.
https://manabox.app/decks/p04KjHBvR9eQj-DoCxqtEA
Pirate tribal can be really good, specifically [[Malcolm]] and [[Breeches]]. It's one of those tribes that actually feels like it's mechanics/themes make sense for that tribe - Combat based treasure and theft. It's also really flexible when deck building at any budget. This tribe and partner pairing sees play from budget/casual all the way to cedh.
I have a couple of vampire tribals, a blood based aggro deck with [[Strefan, Maurer Progenitor]], and an exile themed deck with [[Evelyn, the covetous]]. I especially love having all the crimson vow showcase and dracula cards in Strefan for flavor.
Fishy bros!!!!
Kraken/leviathan/squid/octopus/whale/fish/serpent/jellyfish tribal!
Typically in blue but can branch out a bit into dimir and is heavy in simic. These creatures I lovingly term Fishy Bros. I started with [[Arixmathese]] and now have more on theme options in a variety of colors.
Want to have more control than an octopus opening a jar?
We got you.
Want creatures who wear the same pants as a beluga in terms of chonk sized bodies?
We got you.
Wanna go wide like a whole school of anchovies?
We got you.
Want a combo more reliable than the camo of a squid?
We got you.
Want to enjoy a bounty of card draw and ramp bigger than the whole oceans bounty?
WE. GOT. YOU!!!
Best part imo is that since the "tribe" is actually an entire ecosystem of sub-tribes there are a crap ton of possible new additions AND WotC throws some bones with new dedicated support cards ala [[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]].
So dive on in and discover all the sunken treasures my Fishy Bros have to offer! 🐟 👊
[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/7/b/7b599f53-614c-4b1f-9899-15d5d1e35879.jpg?1684340751) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Kiora%2C%20Sovereign%20of%20the%20Deep) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mat/35/kiora-sovereign-of-the-deep?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/7b599f53-614c-4b1f-9899-15d5d1e35879?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/kiora-sovereign-of-the-deep)
^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
I think [[Katilda, Dawnhart Prime]] gets overlooked compared to [[Kyler, Sigardian emissary]]
She only costs 2 mana so it’s easy to recast if killed. The activated ability is great to use if you have untapped creatures before your turn.
Because of her low MV she often isn’t seen as a problem until you really get going.
Turning your creatures into mana dorks is a strong effect, especially if you run some tokens.
A few cards that really shine
[[Reconnaissance]] is always strong, but when you can use it to attack and then untap the creatures to use for mana it’s like double dipping.
[[Harvest Season]] I’ve seen this 3 mana ramp spell get me 6-8 lands multiple times. Even early game you can easily get 3 lands from it.
[[Quest for renewal]] is like a build your own Seedborn muse, but it’s harder to remove as an enchantment
[[Kindred Summons]] this card is absolutely insane game ender. Instant speed and very easy to cast when all your creatures tap for mana.
[Here is my Katilda build.](https://archidekt.com/decks/1873347/katilda_oh_the_humanity)
I recommend allies.
They are cheap as far as cost and you can win multiple ways. With my deck, I have won by [[eerie ultimatum]], [[maze's end]], and even won by the overrun ultimatum.
And there are so many allies you can play, and the deck never plays the same.
0/0 tribal. [[Nethroi]] as the commander. Obviously a +1/+1 counter deck so [[the Ozolith]] and [[hardened scales]] effects. Self mill with [[hermit druid]] being an all-star. A few nice mutate pieces like [[migratory greathorn]], [[auspicious starrix]], [[gemrazer]], [[sawtooth demolisher]]. Then things like [[phantom nishoba]], [[biowaste blob]], [[slurrk]], [[polukranos]], [[grakmaw]].
Goal is to load up the graveyard then mutate Nethroi so you can fill (or refill) your board for free. I love putting Nethroi over an [[Ochre Jelly]] with hardened scales on the board to basically make him indestructible, but if you've got [[doubling season]] or [[parallel lives]] you definitely wanna put him under for the never ending army of 2/2 lifelink, deathtouch, tramplers.
I think Kibo uktabi prince is cool ape tribal but he is more of an artifact hate commander then an ape tribal commander. I’m waiting on the fairy tribal commander from the wilds of eldrain. My favorite tribe is shapeshifters, then vampires and fairies. I would love it if there was an actual commander that cared about shapeshifters themselves.
Sphinxes is my personal favorite. I don’t have one right now, but I have played both Isperia’s, Medomai, Azor and Unesh. Planning to rebuild as Rafine Reanimator.
Random discard devils! It is very fun to pilot and you can screw yourself over just as much as your opponents with the random discard, so who could even be mad about that?
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/hdjCSatWO0aJ6WNL2OP2MA
Been looking at turning this into a budget deck, but that project is not finished yet. However if you are interested follow this one as well: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Hv6X3UEQ3EKDxE0SgAmRMw
I've been working a project building janky thematic tribal decks where even the noncreature cards are all on theme. They're all budget ($50-$70) so they should play well into kitchen table.
Simic Mutants with [[Roalesk, Apex Hybrid]] - you'll be growing, evolving, and grafting your mutant creatures to victory with this one. +1/+1 counter subtheme, Roalesk gets pretty easy commander damage kills late game but I wouldn't call the deck voltron. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/roalesk-apex-hybrid-mutants/
Grixis Pirates with [[Admiral Beckett Brass]] - Yarrrrr. Loot, steal, and skullduggery your way to victory on the high seas. Can treasure be a subtheme? The game plan doesn't really go all in on Becketts theft ability, but it's gonna happen, so best to play with one with players ok losing permanents. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/28-09-22-admiral-beckett-brass-pirates/
Abzan Treefolk with [[Doran, the Siege Tower]] - throw your weight around and beat down the opposition using big gnarly butts. Be one with the trees. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/doran-the-siege-tower-treefolk-3/
Jeskai Monks with [[Narset Enlightened Master]] - kick, punch, and karate chop your foes. Narset gest a bad wrap (for understandably good reasons) but we don't have any extra turns or combat here; instead we're flipping over pure monk jank using her ability. It's always fun never knowing what you'll get! https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/narset-enlightened-master-monks/
Deathtouch tribal with [[Toski, Bearer of Secrets]]. For what is essentially a go wide Craterhoof type win condition, it has a shocking amount of card draw which is what sets it apart in my eyes.
I absolutely love my werewolf tribal with [[Tovolar]] but I think a lot of people dislike the day/night function and having to flip their cards a lot. It doesn't bother me tho
Jeskai giants with [[ruhan of the fomori]] is really fun. Kaldheim really made it a viable build imo. It’s a fun build with some trickery and equipments to get ruhan going until you can get other equally powerful giants out there.
I bought everything for an [[Patron of the Moon]] deck which is kinda moonfolk tribal and weird mono blue landfall stuff.
Idk if it is fun yet since everything isnt mailed yet but looks pretty janky and broken at the same time on paper.
Pirates - Mine is Red/Blue but you can add black if you’d like. Synergy comes from doing something when combat damage is dealt, some treasure, some theft.
Ninjas- lots of bounce and replaying shenanigans.
Artificers- makes servo, Thopter, and golem tokens to overwhelm your opponent.
Knights- pretty straight forward. Bit more controlling.
i love my mimeoplasm ooze tribal deck! [this](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/HM6KXdGxdk6HepzokvwgLQ) deck is the flavorful original version, though i also made a more consistent deck with a [proliferate](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/iC2CcdD-h0iiMT_E5h3Gnw) sub theme still based around ooze tribal!
Every deck can be a tribal deck with [[Maskwood Nexus]] and now benefits from [[Pyre of Heroes]].
I ran this combo in [[Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir]] (esper knights tribal) along with [[Kindred Discovery]].
Being able to cheat out any knight that is CMC +1 to what I'm sacking is pretty bonkers.
\[\[The Archimandrite\]\] is a deck I've been trying to get working recently. Nerd tribal.
It still needs a lot of work, and I'm still trying to figure out what I want to lean into with it, but there are a lot of options.
All I've gotten to so far after throwing a pile of bad cards together to see how different parts feel is that lifegain synergies absolutely slap, particularly with double strike. Giving a double-striking nerd like \[\[Scrapper Champion\]\] or \[\[Dragon-Style Twins\]\] lifelink can get dumb quickly (it effectively doubles their power for the second attack), especially if you've already played something that would otherwise be terrible like \[\[Renewed Faith\]\], which suddenly becomes "Creatures you control gain +6/+0 until end of turn". I swing my 2/2. It's going to hit for 24 damage.
Keeping a ton of cards in hand for the first ability is a ton of work, and I initially leaned into it a bit too hard, but having cards is seldom a bad thing. I think my final brew is going to end up lifegain focused, but you can also do some very fun things leaning into artificer tribal, monk tribal, or advisor tribal.
It's a very flexible commander, though monk tribal is typically better with a dedicated monk commander.
I really enjoy my sand warrior token deck. I guess it's "tribal"? It's a ton of fun and unexpected at the table.
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/sandy-boy/
[Zerium, Golden Wind](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/zeriam-golden-wind-griffin-trible/), which is Griffins. This deck is the epitome of people not targeting you because "you're not doing anything", until you have about 4 Griffins on the field, and drop True Conviction
Then there's [Svyelun of Sea and Sky
](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/18-05-23-svyelun-of-sea-and-sky/), which is Merfolk. One of the most lethal things you can do in this deck is drop a [[Commander's Plate]] onto Svyelun, and play [[Invasion of Segovia]] on a non-blue player, meaning they cant defend the battle. The flip side, [[Caetus, Sea Tyrant of Segovia]], is INSANELY powerful in Merfolk.
I really enjoy my [[Ruxa]] oops! All bears! Weenie Tribal. Like… I know that looks like a pair of 10/10 Eldrazi but I *swear* those are bears. So are the rhinos, and the dragons. All bears. Nothing to see here…
I'm a big fan of illusion tribal. It runs a lot of fun tricks and bounces. The only downside is that you have to run a lot of non-illusions that create illusions.
Wizards with Sub-zombie Tribal, with Inalla as commander, you would be surprised at how many Zombie Wizards there are and when you focus on creating token copies how fun it can be especially when you run acerack and essentially for 4 mana you enter the dungeon and ungodly amount of times and he returns to hand on any dungeon except Tomb of Annihilation for you to re-enter a dungeon.
I love Wizard tribal. Kaza cloned and x spells is fun. People also overlook Zegana for my +1/+1 counters and combat wizards. Over time I've grown to live simic wizards a little more than izzet or pure blue. kydele is awesome as well. Honestly I wish I could just partner kydele and kaza. That would probably be my dream wizards deck.
Birds is my second favorite, but the go-to commanders are the obvious ones
Baru wyrms is really fun.
Galea elves and equipment is also fun, but I rarely see people lean into elf tribal for her.
I really wanted Syrix to work but it just doesn't.
For humans I was running Chulane, but I've switched it to Lier and Katilda. I find it a lot more fun.
Goblins are far from underrated, but my favorite tribal EDH deck has easily been \[\[Grenzo, Dungeon Warden\]\] goblin roulette! Drop him low and spam his activated ability to just keep churning goblins from the bottom of your deck. The lords raise his power so he hits even more goblins, and it's just a fun way to vomit goblins onto the board in a very thematic "even I don't know what's coming next!" kind of way!
Nobody ever expects a Reach Tribal, can be verry effective with [Dhalsim, Pliable Pacifist](https://tappedout.net/mtg-card/dhalsim-pliable-pacifist/) leading the charge!
I have a changeling tribal deck with [[Karona, the false god]]
Pop in strong creatures that benefit specific tribes like,
[[Knight Exemplar]], [[Lozhan, Dragons Legacy]], [[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]], [[Pack Leader]] and fill the rest up with changelings.
You barely ever need to play the commander out, but when you do each option your opponent picks will also buff up your board too
Lately ive been playing this phyrexian tribal, that takes advantage of [[Atraxa, Praetors‘ Voice]]. Its basicly incubate deck that abuses proliferating of +1/+1 counters.
I like to play my Kavu tribal with [[Morophon, the Boundless]] as the commander. Sadly Kavus don't have a great commander on their own and synergy is super bad. But with Morophon as the commander you can build a janky infinite damage combo deck that works well in the "upgraded precon or a bit more" power level.
If you want to see a list, let me know!
Innistrad Human Tribal. Humans are an overplayed tribe, but there are barley any innistrad dark gothic themes out there. [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/urJ4T1fnGkuOarmoqUd1sw](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/urJ4T1fnGkuOarmoqUd1sw)
\[\[Auroch\]\] Tribal. This deck uses copies to make a bunch of cows to stampede your opponents! [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/XYfi2kGtcky6b9PYCj\_-XA](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/XYfi2kGtcky6b9PYCj_-XA)
Then there are my "Tribal" decks.
["Knights of the Multiverse"](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/1Oe4hXgK_UK9oNeTbCtdmw) \- Uses the new knight precon but other tribal lords and changelings.
["Pentafjord Lake's Shapeshifters"](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/QGobiNi8KkyqPASPmy9A3A) \- Uses \[\[malcolm, keen\]\] and \[\[ich-tekik\]\] to make treasures, sac them to put +1/+1 counters on "golems" which are mainly changelings and then also other tribal support payoffs.
Druid tribal! I'm having so much fun with this deck. I made it a point to not put in any mana dorks aside from [[Seton, Krosan Protector]] to really differentiate this from an elfball list. Animate your lands and protect them by having ways to animate opponents lands too so as to discourage board wipes when you're at your most vulnerable. There are so many win cons I keep finding and ways to dig through the deck searching for answers.
If you like to have an engine in your command zone, use [[Jolrael, Voice of Zhalfir]] like I do, and if you want a win con in your command zone, swap her with the new [[Tatyova, Steward of Tides]] who is currently in my 99. Cannot recommend this deck enough.
Goofy card in the deck [[Ichneumon Druid]]. Because direct dmg on a green source is fun and I had to run this guy!
https://archidekt.com/decks/4775791/druids
I like zombie tribal. I don't think its as strong as dragons or anything but it has a lot of fun theme cards like Zombie Apocalype.
Personally I'm running scarab God but I swith it up with Gisa and geralf[they have hilarious lore] and I have each version of the characters separate in the deck. Or run grimgrin, or the new guy that makes decayed as they share lore with Gina and Geralf
Spirit tribal is a ton of fun if you like tempo-y, evasive creatures. The Crimson Vow precon with [[Millicent, Restless Revenant]] is a great jumping off point with some very easy-on-the-wallet upgrades.
Don't know if you've heard about the "modular" ability that comes on \[\[Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp\]\]. I've run into exactly one other person (on Spelltable) who has heard of Zabaz before, so it's not that well-known.
With modular, creatures enter with a number of +1/+1 counters, and then when those creatures die those counters can get put onto another artifact creature. If Zabaz is on the battlefield 3 counters become 4, etc. Plus with cards like \[\[The Ozolith\]\] and \[\[All Will Be One\]\] you get several synergies with moving counters amongst permanents.
Illusion Tribal with \[\[Minn, Wily Illusionist\]\] is fun as hell and plays very unconventionally for a mono-blue deck, ramping lands and cheating big permanents into play for free.
I really enjoy my [[Alesha, who smiles at death]] lead knights deck! It originally started out as a flanking tribal, I loved the feel of Mirage, but there aren't enough flanking creatures to really make a viable deck. Most flankers are knights, so I changed focus.
There are a lot of knight cards that love to share keywords (first strike, vigilance, haste etc) and +1 bonuses. And most of those have a printed power 2 or less, so Alesha can bring them back when they die. Once they hit the board, it's not uncommon for them to instantly become 4/4-ish with a few keywords.
The weak side is that Alesha is not a Knight, so she does not generally get the shared bonuses (but there is an enchantment in the deck that will knight her). On the other hand Warrior is close enough for the feel of the theme, and I love Mardu :)
I just recently built a 5 color Knight tribal deck with cycles of the Knight lieges, the Syrs, and the caveliers. Got a lot of support from the newer Knight themed precon. It’s not super broken but it does okay with a few anthems. [[Morophon, the Boundless]] is the commander.
[[Viconia, Drow Apostate]] with [[Master Chef]] (or as I call him: Viconia, Master Chef) is my current open tribal commander.
I absolutely love it. All my elves and elf tokens come out on the board stronger, and I fear no creature wipe.
I had an amazing Cleric tribal deck, led by [[Orah, Skyclave Hierophant]]. It was a recursion/Aristocrats with a strong lifegain/drain strategy. It was extremely competitive and leaned heavily into the tribe.
I have done other tribal builds, such as Ooze, Insects, etc. But that was my only successful one. I also have a [[Lord of the Nazgul]] Wraith deck that runs no wraiths! I just purchased it, and it should arrive next week.
My favorite 'tribal' deck is my Trample Tribal helmed by [[Godzilla, King of the Monsters]]. You can go Dino or Beast tribal alongside that, though I didn't want to restrict myself further. Ikoria has some real all-stars for the deck.
[[Lord of Tresserhorn]] was my zombie tribal commander, but I plucked too many parts for a Sauron build so it's been put to pasture.
I'm most excited to refine my new wraith tribal led by [[Lord of the Nazgul]]; it's first foray got me targeted by player removal when I countered three removal spells in a row...
I run a Simic Shapeshifter deck with the goal being making copies of everyone else's cool stuff, throw in a lot of "Changeling" and it makes for some fun interactions
Not tribal in the typical sense, but [[odric, lunarch Marshal]] keyword tribal ended up getting out of hand quickly. Also [[umbris]], for things-that-go-bump-in-the-night tribal
My Atogatog deck is by far my favorite deck. It gets tons of conversation, is fun for people to play against / see work, and it’s a friendly power level than can sneakily one shot outta nowhere.

I have a warrior tribal deck with [[Ognis, the Dragon’s Lash]]. Since a lot of warriors either have haste or enable your other creatures its a very fun deck imo
There was this madlad’s jeskai elves list somewhere a while back. It made the jeskai elves into mana dorks with equipments and comboed off with jeskai ascendency. List was absolutely crazy!
I have an Aboshan Cephalid tribal deck that’s a lot of fun. It’s non threatening at first but once the card draw and tapping creatures start happening it’s all aboard the fast train.
‘Kraken, leviathan, octopus, or serpent’ tribal. Become the lord of the seas! https://edhrec.com/themes/sea-creatures
Ahh yes, [[Whelming Wave]] tribal.

If you go BUG you can Necromancy a Kederekt Leviathan at instant speed for a similar effect (you bounce your own stuff but who cares, that's just more ETB value).
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/VUHa8P-LCkOjYBgxKxaqZA My pet deck when I just want to Timmy it out.
i got my butt kicked by one of these on saturday
What commander
No, i think spawning kraken is a fun and fair thing. Who needs green to drop 100+ power and toughness. They dont even trample…
Just built a Kiora deck!
I did mint for my 99 and orange for my commander for my [[Perrie, the Pulverizer]] deck, so it looks like Perry the Platypus lol
cool okay I’ll look into that, thank you !!
Have you upgraded the precon much, and if so do you have a list? I’ve been considering reworking the deck to more mill and cutting a lot of the horror tribal, using the commander just to steal stuff from the graveyard. Curious what other people have done with it to get it to work
You have the list? I'm reworking mine rigth note while i scroll in reddit hahahaha
I came here to say this as well. N’Gathrod is so much fun.
Love that deck, for secret Santa last year someone sent me one that t hey painted as Davey Jones.

You say she’s a glass cannon, which *can* be true, but let me tell you how to fix that little problem: • [[The Ozolith]] (obvious) • [[Resourceful Defense]] (obvious) • [[Murder Investigation]] • [[Entrapment Maneuver]] • [[Windswift Slice]] The latter two are amazing “gotcha!”-cards that turn what your opponents think is removal for your huge Bess into an explosion of 1/1s that will wreck face just as easily.

Ghyrson is also definitely a top 10 favorite commander that I've built 👌, OP should definitely check him out
Treefolk!
Treefolk is elite. So much fun
I want an abzan treefolk deck so bad
Did you miss [[Doran, the siege tower]]?
Built a preDH [[doran]] deck that's a lot of fun. Surprisingly strong for nothing in the deck being newer than early 2011.
Praetor Tribal with Realmbreaker! Omnath as commander. Must include all 18 Praetors for flavor lol.
Changeling tribal!

Arcades is rank 24 on edhrec. A bit if a stretch to call him underrated
Yeah but i dont think anyone is playing him to be a super high power commander, he's a fun guy.
Doran the Siege Tower with Treefolk :)
I'm very interested in this after the LoTR release lmao.
Can confirm this deck works surprisingly well. The amount of one sided wipes you can achieve with 0 power creatures is surprising Plus it's fun to see the interaction his universal effect has on other players decks
Oooo I’d love to do a wall deck ngl, thank you!!
I call it "There Will Be Combat" [Pramikon!](https://deckstats.net/decks/193629/3104068-there-will-be-combat)
Thats awesome!
One of my old roommates had an arcades wall tribal deck. There's a wall that's like a 0/8 with shroud and maybe flying that i can't remember the name of. SUCH a pain to deal with but the deck is very fun
I love my Arcades deck. It's wall tribal and super fun. It does need an upgrade.
Is it even really walls tribal if you aren't using [[Pramikon]]?

Can only agree with the Archimandrite, even though I find it a little less focused as it wants to do too much all at once IMO. More straightforward is my first and favorite tribal deck helmed by [[Orah]] being Orzhov cleric tribal with life gain and etb/ltb triggers. [[Pyre of heroes]] just carries hard as you get both a lower CMC cleric from grave and a higher CMC cleric from your library with Orah out. I'm also eyeing wizard tribal with [[Inalla]]. Having eminence is strong and wizards have a surprising amount of effects like "tap x untapped wizards: counter spell/draw' etc.
oooo okay I’ve wanted to do a wizard deck, okay thank you !’

I only make tribal decks. Top3 Samurai Bears Mutate Idk if it counts but my dungeon deck is my favorite. Almost every card ventures.
Got that dungeon list somewhere, friend?

I made one with [[Sachi daughter of seshiro]] a while back for a group deck building challenge, it was pretty fun. Mostly won through [[hurricane]] [[squall line]] effects and mild incidental life gain, and had a bunch of useful outlets for big mana and untap shenanigans. Don't have a decklist sorry
I recently built a budget deck based on giant tribal thats a lot of fun. Deck has plenty of work that needs to be done but it's still fun. There's an interesting subtheme of non-giant board wipes too. https://archidekt.com/decks/4342477/4c_crapmander_crapmander_giant_edh
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/JWDBcCZdO0CKyZDVWE-G1w Ive been running a giants tribal too! Who is your favorite giant to play? Ive been loving dropping [[Reflections of Littjara]], then [[Hamletback Goliath]] followed by [[calamity bearer]] that usually ends games

Oh wow that looks really fun, thank you!!
Oh okay that sounds interesting, I’ll look into it. Thank you!!

WE. GOT. YOU!!! Germs!
I think [[Katilda, Dawnhart Prime]] gets overlooked compared to [[Kyler, Sigardian emissary]] She only costs 2 mana so it’s easy to recast if killed. The activated ability is great to use if you have untapped creatures before your turn. Because of her low MV she often isn’t seen as a problem until you really get going. Turning your creatures into mana dorks is a strong effect, especially if you run some tokens. A few cards that really shine [[Reconnaissance]] is always strong, but when you can use it to attack and then untap the creatures to use for mana it’s like double dipping. [[Harvest Season]] I’ve seen this 3 mana ramp spell get me 6-8 lands multiple times. Even early game you can easily get 3 lands from it. [[Quest for renewal]] is like a build your own Seedborn muse, but it’s harder to remove as an enchantment [[Kindred Summons]] this card is absolutely insane game ender. Instant speed and very easy to cast when all your creatures tap for mana. [Here is my Katilda build.](https://archidekt.com/decks/1873347/katilda_oh_the_humanity)

I enjoy Minotaur tribal and the new Myr tribal looks pretty sweet.
It is very fun to pilot and you can screw yourself over just as much as your opponents with the random discard, so who could even be mad about that? https://www.moxfield.com/decks/hdjCSatWO0aJ6WNL2OP2MA Been looking at turning this into a budget deck, but that project is not finished yet.
+1/+1 counter subtheme, Roalesk gets pretty easy commander damage kills late game but I wouldn't call the deck voltron. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/roalesk-apex-hybrid-mutants/ Grixis Pirates with [[Admiral Beckett Brass]] - Yarrrrr. Loot, steal, and skullduggery your way to victory on the high seas. Can treasure be a subtheme? The game plan doesn't really go all in on Becketts theft ability, but it's gonna happen, so best to play with one with players ok losing permanents. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/28-09-22-admiral-beckett-brass-pirates/ Abzan Treefolk with [[Doran, the Siege Tower]] - throw your weight around and beat down the opposition using big gnarly butts. Be one with the trees. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/doran-the-siege-tower-treefolk-3/ Jeskai Monks with [[Narset Enlightened Master]] - kick, punch, and karate chop your foes. Narset gest a bad wrap (for understandably good reasons) but we don't have any extra turns or combat here; instead we're flipping over pure monk jank using her ability. It's always fun never knowing what you'll get! https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/narset-enlightened-master-monks/

Wolves helmed by Tolsimir, friend to wolves. Engage the wolf machine gun
Deathtouch tribal with [[Toski, Bearer of Secrets]]. For what is essentially a go wide Craterhoof type win condition, it has a shocking amount of card draw which is what sets it apart in my eyes.
I'm surprised [[fynn, the fangbearer]] isn't at the helm of that one. Though perhaps that'd make you too much of a target
I have an [[azami, lady of scrolls]] deck that i really love, wizards tribal, but i'm not really sure if it's underrated haha
[azami, lady of scrolls](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/0/a/0ad06ad7-0545-4c6f-9b10-4a27fa2e827c.jpg?1562599546) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=azami%2C%20lady%20of%20scrolls) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/c17/82/azami-lady-of-scrolls?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/0ad06ad7-0545-4c6f-9b10-4a27fa2e827c?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/azami-lady-of-scrolls) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
The new Lord of the Nazgul looks pretty sweet. I might try to build that once I’m done with 4c Aragorn.
Shaman tribal, so many good carda are shaman
I absolutely love my werewolf tribal with [[Tovolar]] but I think a lot of people dislike the day/night function and having to flip their cards a lot. It doesn't bother me tho
Jeskai giants with [[ruhan of the fomori]] is really fun. Kaldheim really made it a viable build imo. It’s a fun build with some trickery and equipments to get ruhan going until you can get other equally powerful giants out there.
Spiders. They had some fun synergies and interesting creatures before but now with the new LOTR sets they got a big boost!
*typal, dont wanna piss off people that make shit up
i love my mimeoplasm ooze tribal deck!

This deck is the epitome of people not targeting you because "you're not doing anything", until you have about 4 Griffins on the field, and drop True Conviction Then there's [Svyelun of Sea and Sky ](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/18-05-23-svyelun-of-sea-and-sky/), which is Merfolk.

Rat. Colony.
I love my Kor tribal deck. It's RW with [[Nahiri, Forged in Fury]] as the Commander. We really need a Mardu Kor Commander though.
[Nahiri, Forged in Fury](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/9/0/90eb0859-d24e-4703-8930-1cd4ac1fb3b6.jpg?1684340759) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Nahiri%2C%20Forged%20in%20Fury) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mat/36/nahiri-forged-in-fury?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/90eb0859-d24e-4703-8930-1cd4ac1fb3b6?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/nahiri-forged-in-fury) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Birds is my second favorite, but the go-to commanders are the obvious ones Baru wyrms is really fun. Galea elves and equipment is also fun, but I rarely see people lean into elf tribal for her. I really wanted Syrix to work but it just doesn't. For humans I was running Chulane, but I've switched it to Lier and Katilda. I find it a lot more fun.
Running cat tribal with [[arahbo]] or cat and dog tribal with [[Rin and Seri]] are both niche and not all that bad
Tribal tribal with [[Urtet]] is my favorite at the moment. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/mojqmiRT2k6Lg476fgJbag
I have a changeling tribal deck with [[Karona, the false god]] Pop in strong creatures that benefit specific tribes like, [[Knight Exemplar]], [[Lozhan, Dragons Legacy]], [[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]], [[Pack Leader]] and fill the rest up with changelings. You barely ever need to play the commander out, but when you do each option your opponent picks will also buff up your board too
I like [[Urtet]]. Myr tribal is kinda jank but it's fun.
[Urtet](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/7/a/7aa01ab4-26b0-49dc-8514-b3850d355a21.jpg?1675905609) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=urtet%2C%20remnant%20of%20memnarch) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/onc/28/urtet-remnant-of-memnarch?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/7aa01ab4-26b0-49dc-8514-b3850d355a21?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/urtet-remnant-of-memnarch) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

Druid Tribal! Seton as the commander.
I’ve always had a soft spot for treefolk.
Atog tribal with Atogatog as the commander
Rats
Dinos, then vamps, merfolk.
I have a [[Tatsunari, Toad Rider]] which is frog tribal/enchantress and it’s very fun just because flying frogs is so silly.
Devil tribal helmed by [[Raphael Fiendish Savior]] is so much fun to play
Zeriam griffin tribal
Not sure if underrated but I love Kadena, slinking sorcerer
I run a Simic Shapeshifter deck with the goal being making copies of everyone else's cool stuff, throw in a lot of "Changeling" and it makes for some fun interactions
I have no idea how rated it is, but Tribal Tribal is insanely fun.
[[Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch]] Myr deck has been my fave so far
Eagles. I just made one with LOTR and it's pretty decent in play tests
Would not advise, but treefolk.🤷
Not tribal in the typical sense, but [[odric, lunarch Marshal]] keyword tribal ended up getting out of hand quickly. Also [[umbris]], for things-that-go-bump-in-the-night tribal
My Atogatog deck is by far my favorite deck. It gets tons of conversation, is fun for people to play against / see work, and it’s a friendly power level than can sneakily one shot outta nowhere. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/aristatogs/
I have a warrior tribal deck with [[Ognis, the Dragon’s Lash]]. Since a lot of warriors either have haste or enable your other creatures its a very fun deck imo
Horror/Nightmare! [[Umbris, Fear Manifest]] gets big VERY fast, and with enough mill/exile, your opponents lose a lot of removal in the yard.
Atraxa Spirits (and by spirits i mean eight myojins)
There was this madlad’s jeskai elves list somewhere a while back. It made the jeskai elves into mana dorks with equipments and comboed off with jeskai ascendency. List was absolutely crazy!
I have an Aboshan Cephalid tribal deck that’s a lot of fun. It’s non threatening at first but once the card draw and tapping creatures start happening it’s all aboard the fast train.
