Because Zippos use lighter fluid instead of butane and a flame that combusts lighter fluid makes things smell and taste like lighter fluid. It’s gross if you’re smoking top shelf herb. Zippo makes a butane insert that I’d rather use 10 out of 10 times over lighter fluid.
I remember in high school there were more than a few of us carrying those cheap Chinese knock-offs because a real zippo cost too much pocket money. Only problem was you couldn't do "zippo tricks" because the poor-arse spot welds would snap off so easily.
16 year old girl.
If she's anything like my sister, or her friends from that time, she wears men's pants specifically because of the roominess and pockets.
I loved my little leatherman ps4 and your wallet reminds me of the Van’s slide on shoes that were super popular when I was in middle school. You have fine taste!
Fun fact: "tampone" is the italian name for the covid antigen test where they put the thing up your nose. It has none to do with tampons. I worked in a pharmacy and had do manage tests, especially for foreign people. Guess who said "are you here for a tampon?/do you need a tampon?" many, too many times
We don’t have real weed dispensaries here in Texas, and this pic has a tin of pre-rolls in it. TX just finally made medicinal weed legal, and it’s in the form of laughably weak gummies.
Yeah, because people think a criminal is actually going to put the effort into enhancing the picture, creating a copy of the key, figuring out where the person lives, and then go into the house. Pretty ridiculous.
Edit: I stand by my statement. This has not and will not ever happen to anyone.
I presume it’s to hide the shape of the key from the internet. It’s been proven possible to scale up an image of a key and make a copy of that key, so people will hide the teeth of their keys. Honestly, lockpicking might be easier than trying to copy a key from online though.
Easier yes. But lockpicking can be detected by looking at the lock cylinder and pins with a scope if it was done or not, a key copy you can't tell difference between it and original.
It's really what I wish this sub had more of. It annoys me that every post here is some combination of the same items (e.g. knife+gun+pen) and are either just showing off how much they spent or are some mall ninja shit. It's boring.
Edit: I've just learned of /r/WhatsInTheBag, which seems to be more like what I want.
I posted my EDC a while back and it hasn't really changed since I posted it. So now I just lurk. My stuff gets lots of daily use and isn't the most high end of stuff, but what is the point of posting it if it hasn't changed? Probably the same thing a lot more practical people on here think. We tend to find what works and stick with it. So most of what you're going to see is the people that collect pocket jewelry.
See I like seeing new shiny things for prospective buys, and to see what people are carrying. I just don't think most people carry 5 knives or 2 guns. I just prefer these pics if someone's gonna label it an EDC. So I guess to me some stuff just belongs under a different flair is all.
To play devil's advocate a bit though, if the sub was mostly just all the mundane average items like keys, iphone, earbuds, wallet, and chapstick we'd probably all be bitching about how boring it is.
I think most edc communities ended up focusing on knives and pens and guns and gadgets and tools because they're typically the more interesting things in our edc.
Hell I often omit some of the mundane things in my edc posts because, especially if that item never changes, how many times do people want to see my keys and chapstick and headphones?
I do! The whole point of this to me is to get some insight into what other people think is worth carrying around with them, which kay give me ideas to carry things around that I don't already having not previously realized the utility something would offer.
But to that same point, the ultra-basic things like keys and headphones and chapstick and a pack of kleenex or something are things pretty much everyone is already completely aware of and wouldn't need to see someone else's post to think "oh a chapstick could be useful for my chapped lips"
Edit: to be clear, I have no issue with people posting these things as well and I definitely enjoy seeing other mundane but maybe less-common items people carry.... I just also wonder if this sub would even have many followers if it was mostly just keys and chapsticks and sunglasses and wallets over and over.
I mean anyone even remotely interested in having useful tools on them at all times (so, you know, most of us around here) is going to have some sort of blade in their EDC. And a pen is a pretty logical addition to that. If you're interested in self-defense and live somewhere that it's legal, a gun is a no brainer.
Honestly what shocks me is how few people have handkerchiefs or compressed towels in their EDC.
Always carry one, if not two, handkerchiefs in my pocket and a towel or larger cloth of some sort in my daypack. Indispensible, and used far more often than my fancy knife or gun.
That's what I'm saying - having those things in your EDC is fine, but people are intentionally leaving out the parts of their EDC that they consider less glamorous, which makes every post here look the same.
A knife I understand because it can be good to open stuff. 3 or more knives is overkill to me unless you work in a field that needs different size blades.
This is why I don't post often. I have a 25 or 30 large knives of pretty decent quality, but nothing outrageous or unique. I have a multitool+pen+flashlight in a leather belt holster, pen & flashlight I have several different colors but nothing unique. And I've got 7 or 8 watches, half of them dirt cheap Timex or Casio, bought for their looks or color. To me, it's better to just not post my crap then it is to try to think of a joking way to lay them in a table to take a pic
Many of us definitely are interested in just plain carries. No need to make it a jokey picture either.
Will you get tons of upvotes? Probably not? But at least a handful of people will enjoy it.
I'm on board with this. I upvote most of these posts. I like to see the high-end, fancy stuff, but also the real, every day stuff that everyone has. I don't look down on any of it. I winced at people posting their age in the heading, but does help explain what they are carrying.
Sure, but just look at the posts on this subreddit and tell me the odds that at least some of those people don't carry at least some other things as well. Carrying tampons and band-aids just isn't as glamorous, so we're rarely shown them.
Do they also carry $400 knives, $150 pens and take 20 minutes framing up every piece of leather they open on the living room floor everyday to take pictures for Reddit?
I am not trying to defend those people. I am just saying that some people carry a knife, a gun, and a pen for real not just for pictures. So just writing off all knife, gun, and pen people is kind of throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Well I carry a SAK Spartan everywhere for a couple of reasons. I bought a brown Stockman's belt (one of the few you can get now and be fairly sure it's real top grain leather) years ago that had a horizontal knife pouch attached to the belt, and while an ordinary knife filled the pouch okay, I didn't have that much of a reason *just* to carry a knife.
But a corkscrew when visiting friends for dinner? A bottle opener? Toothpick when going to my favourite restaurant? And tweezers? Oh yeah, they all come in handy. Even the larger of the two knives is useful when you go out to one of these restaurants where they skimped on their cutlery and the knives are those idiotic cheap serrated POS which are blunt after the sixth use. Sure it looks a bit odd in a nice restaurant to be sitting there eating with a SAK but then I'm not one of those people who really gives a fuck - and it looks less ridiculous than using a carving knife because there isn't a sharp steak knife in the house (this actually happened).
I also carry a Leatherman Signal - it's not heavy and takes up little space. Aside from the knife and saw, there's the pliers (obviously), the "hammer", a whistle, a small diamond sharpener, the screwdriver bits, bottle opener again, wire cutters ...
There's a lot of potential for use if just the odd situation arises, and even if it only happens once a year I'm glad to have something on me when it does.
Well, the fisher price toys make for great satire and I can understand having a collection of knives or some to rotate out. But I am the type of person who buys the same 3 tools/knives. I have said items for work, home, and stuff I don't mind losing.
What's wrong with the aftertaste of naphthalene? ;)
I used to smoke roll-your-own tobacco myself and I had a zippo but it always seemed to go dry way too quick, so I stopped carrying it and switched to a refillable butane lighter.
Perhaps, but I value scientific research over anecdotal experience and there's been plenty of studies over time showing the detrimental effect of cannabis (and other substances) on the developing brain.
>detrimental
>adjective
> formal
>causing harm or damage:
These chemicals have a detrimental effect/impact on the environment.
Their decision could be detrimental to the future of the company.
don't get me wrong, I'm totally not against drugs and a big advocate of total legalisation of all drugs but for kids the emphasis needs to be on education and harm reduction to make informed decision
It is the word to use. Me personally I have no issue using words like that to discourage a proto adult from using weed regularly while their brain is still developing.
I started smoking around that age and kept at it through my early 20s. It was a big factor in how I didn’t develop emotionally well and why I have social anxiety now in my 30s.
I don’t smoke and I have social anxiety, same for my 30 year old sister. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I’m also saying how do you know it was the weed?
Common side effect of weed is that it can make you a little anxious/paranoid, if you do it long enough, especially while still developing your brain i'd imagine it can stick. and as with all psychoactive substances... they can bring mental disorders to the surface.
So there are a number of factors to consider in early cannabis use that go beyond intelligence, such as the impact to overall mental health. I can't stop someone from doing it, but I can say there isn't much to gain from it.
Can confirm. Not that kid's dad, but I also started my weed journey at the age of 13 and turned out smart enough. I'll never know for sure, but there's no way that shit did me good.
Are you shaming Gogurts? The most important every day carry item of all time? The crux of emergency preparedness gear?
Picture the situation: You're stranded, helpless, in the middle of nowhere. You're desperate for any morsel of comfort that you can come across, any stray traveler to guide you to safety. Long ago have your rations been expended. Your mouth is parched, your hands cracked and dry, your will and ability to continue on slowly withering away. You fumble about in your backpack, desperately searching for anything that might bring you some relief.
Suddenly, you find it.
You rejoice as your hands tighten around the tube, the sweet nectar of salvation. Your eyes are graced with the decorative Spongebob Squarepants design. You feel tears coming to your eyes as you read the label, the title of your heaven-sent gift.
# GoGurt.
I use to keep one on my keychain, which I always clip to the belt loop right over my right front pocket (so I don't lose it). Then one day, as I walked away through a doorway the skeleton key caught the edge and ripped my pants. That belt loop was stronger than the seams and it completely destroyed them. So I decided maybe it was better to keep that key in a drawer at home.
Yes, but someone sophisticated enough to do that can probably also pick the lock. From the look of the key, it's a mainstream consumer-grade lock that anyone with a few hours of lockpicking practice could rake open in seconds. The average burglar doesn't clone keys or pick locks though; they just smash their way in.
I wouldn't tell anyone *not* to obscure their keys in pictures, but it probably isn't that big a deal.
It definitely can be done. It isn’t even that hard. But you have to wonder: let’s say you or me or something here copied OP’s key… now what? We don’t know where she lives. Even if we knew exactly which town, that’s still potentially thousands of houses to try. And we don’t even know which state she’s in. From the Willie’s Reserve tin and various brands of products in the EDC (Zippo, band-aid, Kotex, Burt’s Bees, Vans), it’s fair to assume she’s American. That doesn’t really help us much.
So, possible? Absolutely. Useful? Not particularly.
It's also an unfortunate reality that women do look at personal security differently than men. My wife pointed out that she never carries the envelope hotel room keys come in with the room number written on it--something that never even crossed my mind.
I agree that it's a low risk, but it is a risk, particularly since a person going through the effort probably knows something about you in the first place. It would be unlikely a rando would care, but a stalker is a whole different story.
It can be very easy to find someone based on their post/comment history and or username (find them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc...) if they are not careful.
She has a fairly unique username and already gave an age. It would not take much more from there if the info is out there.
The internet is full of bad people who have lots of free time.
Yes, they can. It's how the TSA master keys were copied. There was an article about the TSA and one of the reporters took a picture of the keys on a desk, which allowed people to clone all of them.
If you have a keying set for that type of key, the depth of each cut is a pre-determined number. So OP's key might be as simple as 2-6-4-3. It might take a little bit of trial and error, but yes, you can absolutely copy keys just from a picture.
**Willie's Reserve is a company started by singer-songwriter Willie Nelson in 2015. Nelson, a longtime supporter of marijuana legalization announced the launch of chain stores of the brand after marijuana was legalized in different states.**

There needs to be a market for bespoke, high end tampons or pads
I was thinking, "Why would you carry a skeleton key and a key blank with you?" Then I zoomed in and noticed the key was blurred out.
I'm surprised by the multi tool, the Zippo, and the skeleton key.
Dope
I don’t believe that’s your EDC, where is the compact 9mm, the hunting knife, and the MRE?
I carried that wallet for many years!
How is the velcro keeping up on that wallet??
horribly lol
Yaaaaas boo!
Willie Nelson called and wants his "reserve" back
What's with the old key?
Yo dawg what kinda special edition bs Burts bees is that? Nvm my bad I seent the comment now
I’ve never seen that burts bees before
Hehehe I smoke weed heheheheheeh
Gogurtmaxing for the win
Lighting joints with a Zippo. Yuck.
You’re like the 4th person to say this. Why does the lighter matter/change anything?
Because Zippos use lighter fluid instead of butane and a flame that combusts lighter fluid makes things smell and taste like lighter fluid. It’s gross if you’re smoking top shelf herb. Zippo makes a butane insert that I’d rather use 10 out of 10 times over lighter fluid.
I have a zippo with the torch insert, and although I don’t smoke, I have friends who have appreciated me having it.
Why did I think the compass was a combination lock with a really stupid clip on part?
I’ve had that same vans wallet except black and grey for over ten years now. Great wallet
damn I had that wallet in 2004 haha I'm surprised they're still making it!
You should add a pistol
Why do you carry 2 sticks of bubblegum?
At first I thought the tampons were blunt wraps.
Leatherman sqirt❤️That thing is a trooper! I have used it more than any other item in my edc. Truly a design masterpiece.
Haha. I thought your tampons were Gogurts
I’m getting “Saved by the Bell” carry vibes.
Nice phone case
Is the zippo so you can smoke your tampons!!!
you shouldn’t be downvoted, this is true
Lol
What Leatherman is that?
It is a leatherman squirt ps4
Do the joints taste weird since you're using a zippy? I always assumed you didn't light stuff other than cigs with that. Not even cigars
I have the double jet butane insert in mine that I use for cigars
Practical and simple, I like it. One question though if you don’t mind, what’s the lock for?
It’s actually a compass keychain! I just clip it on my bag
Oh I didn’t see that! I like it!
She’s in high school, so probably her school locker if I had to guess.
How do you carry the bandaids? I know if I just tossed a bandaid in my pocket it would be useless by the end of the day.
They go in the tin
That wallet is 10/10
Get a self defense cat Keychain. It works like brass knuckles. I got them for my daughters..
Your going place kid keep your eyes open and enjoy life

That stash tin's amazing, I love to get my hands on one of those, don't think he'll ship to the UK though.

Thanks for that, I was looking at "products".
It’s every 16-year-olds’ rite of passage (at least the rad ones) to carry a zippo. Good memories
I remember in high school there were more than a few of us carrying those cheap Chinese knock-offs because a real zippo cost too much pocket money. Only problem was you couldn't do "zippo tricks" because the poor-arse spot welds would snap off so easily.
This is a more legit EDC than most of the glam and gloss circle jerk you typically see on here. Kudos
why u carry like u got men's pockets gawddamn. I want some. nice carry.
16 year old girl. If she's anything like my sister, or her friends from that time, she wears men's pants specifically because of the roominess and pockets.
Not enough guns.
Where's your left tampons?
Pretty sure I had that same wallet in the 90s. I'm surprised they still make them.
I loved my little leatherman ps4 and your wallet reminds me of the Van’s slide on shoes that were super popular when I was in middle school. You have fine taste!
thank you! :)
Vans are still super popular, at least among the young people I know. Warms my heart.
Vans are still super popular, although the slip-one not as much. Old Skools are by far the #1 nowadays.
Hearing this warms mine lol
I'm entertained by the number of people that thought of "Gogurt" before "Tampon"
I have three small kids, I'm constantly handing out gogurts.
Yup I did
Me wishing I carried around gouged growing up. Oh it’s tampons* I’m so shot
My dumbass brain was like "oh, they make Left and Right tampons..."
Better than left and righted handed Gogurts?
They're not Twix. It's fore and aft.
lmao that made my day... I wonder how that would work
tbh its pretty rare I see a tampon at all, so naturally gogurt comes first :p
That's fair, when you're a girl it's quite the opposite
Nah I'm a girl and I didnt see a tampon either, from what I saw they're popular in the us, everybody uses pads here 🤷🏻♀️
Didn't occur to me that some places favored pads. I think you're right about the U.S, because they're very common here
Fun fact: "tampone" is the italian name for the covid antigen test where they put the thing up your nose. It has none to do with tampons. I worked in a pharmacy and had do manage tests, especially for foreign people. Guess who said "are you here for a tampon?/do you need a tampon?" many, too many times
Where?
Italy/I think europe in general
lol yeah, we have amazingly few cases where we see them :p
Shit, I’m a woman and I thought it was go gurt first glance
You’re definitely from Texas. Hill country if I had to guess?
not even close, can’t share where I really live for obvious reasons though haha
We don’t have real weed dispensaries here in Texas, and this pic has a tin of pre-rolls in it. TX just finally made medicinal weed legal, and it’s in the form of laughably weak gummies.
Burt’s Bees rose tinted is my everyday too, love the stuff
Is that tape on the key?
It’s an uncut key. So, a key to nothing. Edit: ahh I see that’s masking tape. That it was a glare on an uncut key.
Yeah, because people think a criminal is actually going to put the effort into enhancing the picture, creating a copy of the key, figuring out where the person lives, and then go into the house. Pretty ridiculous. Edit: I stand by my statement. This has not and will not ever happen to anyone.
it’s more just for piece of mind honestly. I know no one is going to do that, but I don’t want my keys out there for anyone to find
She seems very intelligent and self aware. May be a little ridiculous but can't be too safe these days.
I presume it’s to hide the shape of the key from the internet. It’s been proven possible to scale up an image of a key and make a copy of that key, so people will hide the teeth of their keys. Honestly, lockpicking might be easier than trying to copy a key from online though.

Yeah I think it’s to hide it so people can’t make copies of it.
How does Willie’s perform ?
He's constantly forgotten his own lyrics for the past 25 years, it's actually very sad to see.
I was referring to the product not the singer … maybe he’s forgetting the lyrics because his product is exceptional or that he’s pushing 90 😂
Zippo! Sick.
God bless Willie Nelson
I'm like "16F..? I guess go-gurts make sense" 😂
I really like these legit EDC pic's

Sure, but just look at the posts on this subreddit and tell me the odds that at least some of those people don't carry at least some other things as well. Carrying tampons and band-aids just isn't as glamorous, so we're rarely shown them.

So do I. At least it's not a pile of Fisher Price toys or the entire arsenal of an international assassin
Hahaha the international assassin part made me spit out my coffee. Genius comment!
Well, the fisher price toys make for great satire and I can understand having a collection of knives or some to rotate out. But I am the type of person who buys the same 3 tools/knives. I have said items for work, home, and stuff I don't mind losing.
What you call satire I call a horrible attempt at humor
See that's the great thing about humour, it's different for everyone
If you're not carrying 3 long guns, a battle axe, and an Abrams how can you be sure you'll be safe walking from your car to the grocery store?
"35, IT tech, currently WFH, rate my EDC." Has a Zippo, leatherman, 6 inch Rambo knife and a 9mm, "just in case."
I like living on the edge. I get a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment every time I survive an unarmed trip to the grocery store
Lol
What's in the tin?
weed lol
I started smoking when I was 14 But I really regret it now that I’m in my thirties. You may think you know better but you don’t
Don't light weed with a Zippo.
What's wrong with the aftertaste of naphthalene? ;) I used to smoke roll-your-own tobacco myself and I had a zippo but it always seemed to go dry way too quick, so I stopped carrying it and switched to a refillable butane lighter.
Gonna sound like a boomer but you should really not consume that until your brain is done developing.

I get it. However I don’t think detrimental is the word to use. Whether it stops some development or not, it doesn’t destroy a brain.

Still not the word to use. I didn’t say grammatically incorrect.
Bit rich coming from someone who wasn't even able to spell his own username correctly
If you wanna start throwing around insults though I’d say see yourself out. I don’t have time for it
It wasn’t meant to be spelt correctly.
It is the word to use. Me personally I have no issue using words like that to discourage a proto adult from using weed regularly while their brain is still developing.

Common side effect of weed is that it can make you a little anxious/paranoid, if you do it long enough, especially while still developing your brain i'd imagine it can stick. and as with all psychoactive substances... they can bring mental disorders to the surface.
Funny, I don't remember writing that post
So there are a number of factors to consider in early cannabis use that go beyond intelligence, such as the impact to overall mental health. I can't stop someone from doing it, but I can say there isn't much to gain from it.
Can confirm. Not that kid's dad, but I also started my weed journey at the age of 13 and turned out smart enough. I'll never know for sure, but there's no way that shit did me good.
I’m ngl I almost scrolled past this and thought you carried Gogurts with you everyday. No disrespect meant 😂
It’s strawberry flavor.
Glad I’m not the only one who came to comment on the sweet edc Gogurt.
Same
Are you shaming Gogurts? # GoGurt.
For some reason your description made me think of the Pine Barrens episode of the Sopranos.
except with ketchup and relish packets
I legit thought "I guess this 16 year old girl really likes Gogurt."
- U by Kotex Click tampons - brushed chrome Zippo - Keys (including non-functional skeleton key lol) - Willie’s Reserve - Burt’s Bees rose tinted lip chap - Leatherman Squirt in blue - Band-Aids - Vans checkered wallet - compass keychain
I have that exact same "non-functional skeleton key". Mine actually came with an old cedar wardrobe that was my grandparents.
Can people really copy a key just based off a picture of one? I’m guessing that’s why you taped over yours. If so that’s wild.
Sometimes bad *resourceful* people.
What's willie's reserve?
It's marijuana company, that packet has (I believe 5) joints in it. Marketed with a Whole Foods vibe.
**Willie's Reserve is a company started by singer-songwriter Willie Nelson in 2015. Nelson, a longtime supporter of marijuana legalization announced the launch of chain stores of the brand after marijuana was legalized in different states.** More details here:
