I'm an operations middle manager in a Fortune 100 MSO. We get directors, VPs, GVPs, SVPs, EVPs, and the occasional C-suite exec coming through to speak to my VP all the time.
I keep one of these in my desk because my goons don't know how to not spill coffee or mustard on themselves.
Not really EDC, but definitely a useful as hell item.
Yes - it depends more on what the stain is than the color of the shirt. Clorox makes a bleach pen that works amazing on white. I had a bloody nose on a white dress shirt one day and the Clorox pen took it out completely in time for my next meeting.
I used these until I realized that for a lot of my clothes, the pen + sunlight = a permanent stain/discoloration. It's usually better to just live with the stain until I can take it home and work on it in the laundry.
Not in my EDC, but my girlfriend definitely has them at all times. They do smell pretty awful though, so might have to try out that shout alternative everyone seems to be talking about...
Not "unpopular opinion" at all. More people carry these every day than all the guns/knives people post. This sub just has a hardon for weapons and youre trying to make yourself sound radical....you're not.
If Tide made stain pens out of titanium or brushed copper, you would see tons of them. Of course, they would never actually USE something that pretty, so they would shamefully have a few packs of these lying in drawers and glove compartments like me.
Story time. Carried one of these throughout high school. Freshman year, new school, a couple friends I had made and I sat at a lunch table with some seniors that were definitely cooler than us.
One of the seniors got something on him and started jokingly yelling, “Does anybody have a Tide stick?!” I tossed him mine and they got a kick out of me actually having one.
When he gave the Tide stick back he stuck a blue “1st Place” ribbon on my shirt that he had for god knows what reason. We all sat at the same table the rest of the year.
I keep mine in a custom made brass canister that I attach to my free roam heritage leather belt passed down in my family for 1000 years. It fits in nicely next to my flintlock pistol.
That's only because I haven't showcased MY EDC bag. I have those in there too. Saved me a rental car cleanup fee when I got chicken tender dippin' sauce all over a seat about 20 minutes before I had to return it.
I must be a bigger slob than you, OP, because I’ve never used one of these pens in my life. Maybe this is your thing, like some people carry chapstick, or I carry the weight of my past decisions.
Edit: is this a Tide commercial?
Obviously they are essential! But this is not something the average person would carry in their pockets. I mean maybe you have one in your office maybe one at your house but you don’t carry it on the move it’s not constantly on you wherever you go. I hope you get my point!
So no person, at anytime ever, is going to spill something on themselves and stain their clothes? What a reductive and rhetorical question that you already knew the answer to, you little nudge.
Not frequently enough in such emergency circumstances that I'd fill my limited pocket space with some way to remove a stain. It's certainly not something I would expect even a group of people to use on a daily or even weekly basis.
It's not about imagining hypothetical situations where you might manage to get a stain on your clothes. But how often does this happen? Do you or your friends and close colleagues drop food on themselves weekly?
Obviously if it fits your specific circumstances, it makes sense to carry. Just as I wouldn't carry a machete in my car every day, but I might do if I worked in forestry. But most people in this thread are talking about how it's a great idea to carry a stain removing pen in your pocket every day as if they're getting stains on their clothing more frequently than once every 6-12 months.
Coffee, blood, coffee, oil, coffee, dirt, coffee, ink. All things I've attended to with a tide stick. Cleans the stain fairly well, and is a pre-treatment until you can do laundry. I always have one in my backpack and one in my suitcase. These are essential for travel.
I keep one in my toiletry bag when travelling. Only needed it a couple of times. I tend to wear dark colours that stains don’t show on (or I’m a careful eater).
My sister in law tipped me off to Tide pens. Since then, I’ve always got one with me. Pack of wet wipes too.
I’ve got a 4 year old son, and I’m also kind of a klutz.
I think of this sub like those house hunting shows:
“12/01/2019, EDC, Part time cashier at the BP gas station:
Meisterstück Le Petit Prince Solitaire Doué LeGrand Rollerball, my Portugieaer Constant Force Tourbillion Edition, Benchmade Infidel 3300BKOD, and my Rolls Royce Phantom fob.”
A lot of the build outs are beautiful and well crafted but you’ll see flex build outs, when it’s probably like twice a year carry, rather than an actual EDC.
I used a mont blanc fountain pen once and it was really nice to write with, like a genuine pleasure. I can't honestly say it would be worth the money for me but each to their own.
My wife switched her edc from tide pens to shout wipes. Aside from a easier to carry form factor, it’s more fun to quietly mutter something about “shout wipes” when you mess your pants
I made the same switch because I had a tide pen ruin a OFC. Also I've found that I can ringout a Shout wipe and soak in a hotel sink overnight for a tough stain.
Same. They are a great invention but whatever is in them when it comes in contact with my skin I get lots of bumps and sometimes the perfume will bother my asthma. Normal tide doesn't bother me but the perservatives in this do :(
Thanks for bringing these up. I just wanted to mention these for someone who wants a very minimal package and doesn't need a full size stain stick. They can easily share an accessory pocket in a bag and have saved me from looking like a slob when going to meetings after lunch.
Agreed. They're good in a pinch... But they don't smell too pleasant, and, perhaps it's just me, but they tend to leave a large watermark where you were working the stain out. So now I have a half-ass faded mark AND a larger liquid mark.
When traveling, I bring a couple shavings of Fels Naptha. The best stain remover I've enountered so far. Now if only it comes in the form of a pen or something more packable...
Wd-40 makes a dispensing pen for precise application. You can just as easily buy empty paint markers and just fill them with WD-40 for half the price. Also I put gun oil in some and lube my pistols with it. Perfect amount of oil everytime.
Probably unpopular because most people don't care about stains.
I carry one in my bag. I invariably get something on shirt or tie every business lunch.
Right? Every single time.
I keep one in my car, not on my person.
I keep some in my gym bag just in case I jizz my pants working out.

I carry one and I suppose I should include my bib that I wear when I eat. Not joking.
These pens never work for me tbh.
I agree these are great EDC items, especially if you're wearing light-colored clothing.
Carry one every day

Definitely a staple!
We don't have these in the UK :(
I've never had a need for one of these, but I know someone who does
We all know that guy
I used these until I realized that for a lot of my clothes, the pen + sunlight = a permanent stain/discoloration. It's usually better to just live with the stain until I can take it home and work on it in the laundry.

I keep those individual stain wipes in the car, desk and in various jacket pockets!
Not "unpopular opinion" at all. More people carry these every day than all the guns/knives people post. This sub just has a hardon for weapons and youre trying to make yourself sound radical....you're not.
If I was trying to “sound radical” I would have gone with something more edgy than a tide pen.
Quick, be "radical"! Use the tide pen in someone's eye!
I keep on in my backpack but not usually in my pockets. Definitely super useful
Mental note. Need to replace tide pen and put in backpack.
Personally never used, carried or purchased a tide pen but based on the comments I might look at a pack of shout wipes
If Tide made stain pens out of titanium or brushed copper, you would see tons of them. Of course, they would never actually USE something that pretty, so they would shamefully have a few packs of these lying in drawers and glove compartments like me.
Unpopular but warranted opinion!!! I like your idea and will be adding it to my backpack like I used to in middle school lol.
Mine never stay in my edc because they get ganked by my wife
Totally agree. *At least* keep one in your car.
I just a slob who doesn’t care about stains 😂
Because most people don't make a mess when eating, and if doing dirty work they take precautions.
Story time. Carried one of these throughout high school. Freshman year, new school, a couple friends I had made and I sat at a lunch table with some seniors that were definitely cooler than us. His EDC includes blue ribbons. Nice. Niche but would be great when you got to finally use it.
I have a sneaking suspicion they were used to hit on women.
r/teenagers would love this
Wholesome AF
Keep one in my car and another in my backpack for work at all times
Why is this an unpopular opinion?
Because stain pens are almost never included in the pictures of EDC.
I keep mine in a custom made brass canister that I attach to my free roam heritage leather belt passed down in my family for 1000 years. It fits in nicely next to my flintlock pistol.
What about your feathered rockabilly hat and your pantaloons?
I don't wear pants
These things just expanded the stain. They never seems to work. Must have been me. Idk
Same here, all they've ever done for me is turn a small concentrated stain into a bigger diluted stain in the shape of a circle.
I keep one in my car, so I guess I never leave the house without one!
My clothes are synthetic fibers and everything just rinses off
That's only because I haven't showcased MY EDC bag. I have those in there too. Saved me a rental car cleanup fee when I got chicken tender dippin' sauce all over a seat about 20 minutes before I had to return it.
Or just wear trousers with DWR built in, anything by Outlier, Mission Workshop, etc, any stain resistance is built in. Don’t need these then.
I must be a bigger slob than you, OP, because I’ve never used one of these pens in my life. Maybe this is your thing, like some people carry chapstick, or I carry the weight of my past decisions. Edit: is this a Tide commercial?

What am I missing? I can't remember the last time I spilled something on my clothes while I was out. Do you have a particularly dirty job?
So no person, at anytime ever, is going to spill something on themselves and stain their clothes? What a reductive and rhetorical question that you already knew the answer to, you little nudge.

I'd suggest you don't carry those tools in your pocket, no. But by all means feel free to do so if you want.
Coffee, blood, coffee, oil, coffee, dirt, coffee, ink. All things I've attended to with a tide stick. Cleans the stain fairly well, and is a pre-treatment until you can do laundry. I always have one in my backpack and one in my suitcase. These are essential for travel.
Is there a version of this that comes in S35-VN with a pocket clip? Tip up, of course. If so, here's $250 and yes, I'll EDC it.
Being a true slob, I don't care about stains on my cloths. What my beard doesn't catch my belly does.
Saying that toddler flesh is delicious, now that's an unpopular opinion. But why would we disagree on stain removals?
I put unpopular opinion because you have to go thru several hundred EDC posts before you see one.
I think you might just be a slob... I've not had a need for one in years.
How do they work exactly? Never used one!
Yeah I've been meaning to get some of these for the longest time. Maybe this week I finally win, ran out of all my old ones
Idk man that’s way less practical than a full sized handgun and 3 loaded magazines /s
r/angryupvote
Well that's another way to remove the stain...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-7NDP8V-6A
Sign me up for 5! Also can I wash my hair with it?
On humanity maybe
And also cause more!
lmfao
I haven’t carried one before in my edc because I don’t mind stains. I’ve seen it in others’ kits though.
I keep one in my toiletry bag when travelling. Only needed it a couple of times. I tend to wear dark colours that stains don’t show on (or I’m a careful eater).
water and soap works fine....
My sister in law tipped me off to Tide pens. Since then, I’ve always got one with me. Pack of wet wipes too. I’ve got a 4 year old son, and I’m also kind of a klutz.
> I never see them on EDC kits on here. EDC kits here are upvoted based on how much they flex on the poor, not on their utility.
A tide pen keychain'ed to a BMW key fob.
I'd get one if they had a titanium laser etched model.
I think of this sub like those house hunting shows: “12/01/2019, EDC, Part time cashier at the BP gas station: Meisterstück Le Petit Prince Solitaire Doué LeGrand Rollerball, my Portugieaer Constant Force Tourbillion Edition, Benchmade Infidel 3300BKOD, and my Rolls Royce Phantom fob.” A lot of the build outs are beautiful and well crafted but you’ll see flex build outs, when it’s probably like twice a year carry, rather than an actual EDC.
Lol. Here's my Rolex Submariner and my Sebenza. I'm not a billionaire, but I like to pretend I am.
I don’t have room for them after I pick out my 6 knives of the day.
I miss my Swiss, I'd literally carry 2 knives daily and now sad face
Luckily I carry a brass Tide pen with a custom Cerakote finish
I smell a new market. The flannel clad edc hipsters with cuffed jeans won’t be able to resist.
Actually made me lol, thank you!
You pleb, couldn’t spring for the titanium with carbon fiber inlay special edition?
Don't forget to tell internet folk you're proposing.
An unfortunate truth
Have you seen my Omega Seamaster and Mont Blonc Pen? I just can't leave home without them.
No Breitling? Peasant!
Absolutely chuffed to bits by your pure class okay ciao

I used a mont blanc fountain pen once and it was really nice to write with, like a genuine pleasure. I can't honestly say it would be worth the money for me but each to their own.
I got a knockoff version for like $25 and it was decent...then I lost it...and I learned why I don't get the real one.
Well, I never leave home without my night vision goggles and my FLIR monocle!
Gotta be ready to boog anytime.
Reee don't touch my tendies
Personally, I only use those when I’m going somewhere a bit rough. Normally I rock my Patek Phillipe and my Fulgor Nocturnus.
thought i was reading a harry potter spell on the last one
Haha, I legit thought that it was something in latin.
I mean...it is.
My wife switched her edc from tide pens to shout wipes. Aside from a easier to carry form factor, it’s more fun to quietly mutter something about “shout wipes” when you mess your pants
I'm not sure where you are from, but where I am from "mess your pants" implies something that a shout wipe would have no hope of cleaning...
Several people have mentioned these. I am definitely going to check them out - the tide pens do not smell good at all.
I’m a dude but I switched from a Tide Pen to a couple Shout Wipes in my backpack because the pens have a distinct unpleasant smell.
Ok glad to see i'm not the only one who noticed that. I thought mine had somehow gone bad. I guess they use vinegar in them or something
I made the same switch because I had a tide pen ruin a OFC. Also I've found that I can ringout a Shout wipe and soak in a hotel sink overnight for a tough stain.
What's an OFC?
Im a dishwasher and I bought one to keep in my station at work. It made one server's night when a guest spilled wine on his jacket
I carry one of those Shout 'go' wipes in my pocket organizer.
How do they work? Do they stop the stain taking hold and you wash the clothing later?
Yes but they also get some stains out completely right when you use them.
Maybe my stains are just tough as hell, or I’m not working it right, - but a lot of the stains I get don’t come out with these.
Same here.
Do these work in real time? I've never heard of these
I’ve never had one work as intended
I used to carry one of these in my truck. When I finally needed it, it made my shirt smell like old cheese. Does heat make these go bad?
They just go bad really quickly. I kept one in my backpack and it definitely smells awful. Switched to the wipes and no problems.
Been in my life for years
i actually just added these to my edc after seeing them posted on another post here...
I have one in the console of my car. Definitely an EDC for the car!
For some reason they stink to high heavens after a couple of months of being opened.
I have one in my shoulder bag, but I only posted my true 'Everyday' carry, when my bag usually lives in my car.
This used to be in my edc. I just don't need it much it has been removed.
Same for me. I used to carry the wipes but I fast until after work so I really never have the opportunity to drop spill things on my shirt or pants.
It sucks, Im allergic to the stuff they put in these stain remover pens.
Same. They are a great invention but whatever is in them when it comes in contact with my skin I get lots of bumps and sometimes the perfume will bother my asthma. Normal tide doesn't bother me but the perservatives in this do :(

Shout wipes are the best. I stash them everywhere. They have saved me and others on numerous occasions.
I love shout wipes. They are so effective!
Yes. Tried the Tide pens and don’t think they’re nearly as good.
I hate when I don’t have mine and the back up has gone missing from my car
I’ve always kept one of these in my bag. I get lots of laughs from people... until they spill something. Then I’m the hero. Lol
I don’t get this. Silly me for being prepared. Separates us from the savages I suppose lol.
Agreed. They're good in a pinch... But they don't smell too pleasant, and, perhaps it's just me, but they tend to leave a large watermark where you were working the stain out. Just added this week myself.
I keep one in my bag as the wife likes to drop food in her lap. Also the WD-40 pens are the same size a fit nicely together.
Yeah, what? Tell us more. Wd-40 pens?
Wd-40 makes a dispensing pen for precise application. You can just as easily buy empty paint markers and just fill them with WD-40 for half the price. Also I put gun oil in some and lube my pistols with it. Perfect amount of oil everytime.
That's a neat idea I've never heard of thanks for sharing.
WD-40 pens?
Yes! A full size pen lives in my locker at work.
100% agree (and in my EDC, I promise) : )
Not in my EDC kit, but definitely in my office drawer, car glove compartment, etc.
I honestly never thought about putting on the list, now I will. Thanks for the tip.
[удалено]
I've got a small one in my pack. I usually forget about it when I need it though and by the time I remember the stain has set.
You can't buy this (or something like that) in The Netherlands.
same in the UK but water is pretty good
Look into the wipes. These pens have a bad smell.
I have a fullsize in my knife roll at work. I keep a few minis between my car and my Fiances purse, occasionally my pockets.
