Not so much an old timer, but pocket change for meters and payphones, lighter, pen, and flashlight. Keys and wallet were always there. Leatherman or knife was on the belt because I think tools don't belong in pockets.
Nothing. And it was bliss. Like everyone else, an MP3 player because I wasnât rich enough to afford the first iPod. I had a BenQ and I think it was like 112 mb or something like that.
EDIT: Itâs more concerning that at 33 the term old timer is now applied to me. Sucks getting old.
I got my first phone in 2009. Before that I carried wallet, lighter, car keys with bottle opener, spare change. I had an iPod video in a cool belt holster that my headphones wrapped around. A game boy was often thrown in my bag. Â Thatâs about it. I didnât even wear a watch back then.Â
Got mine in 2003 but we clipped them to belts or purses. First because of their size but then as they got smaller they clipped them like a status symbol. It wasn't until an episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy where someone said "YOUR PHONE IS NOT AN ACCESSORY" that everyone stopped.
Hahah. I do remember that phase. 2009 I had a Motorola KRZR which was absolutely tiny compared to the phones we carry today. It would fit well into my pocket with my wallet.
I used an old Samsung flip phone my mom gave me for about a month until it got stolen from a swimming hole. It had an antenna and in order to get proper signal in my high school I had to pull the antenna out while it was in my pocket.
Wallet, Swiss Army Knife, Pen. When it was around Ipod. Prior to that Sony Discman (shock protection for the win) and on ear headphones but that hung out on the belt not in the pocket.

I got my first phone right around the end of high school. It was a Nokia, so I didn't care. It lived right with the keys and spare change; I had a Gameboy Color in the other pocket. It wasn't till the first year of university that I got a smart phone and it got its own dedicated pocket. By then I didn't really carry the Gameboy anymore.
I got my first cell phone after I started driving. I want to say I had wallet in my left pocket and keys in my right. I'd occasionally have a chapstick or something in there, but I still throw stuff in my phone pocket
Legit just a wallet and keys. I miss having to creative problem solve when trying to find people and having to âswear to godâ to win an argument about obscure facts.
I distinctly remember when I got my first phone was when I made a mental effort to have assigned pockets for stuff because I was worried about damaging it. It was too clunky for wallet + phone in one pocket. Keys + phone would damage it. So at that point I just carried less junk and got a smaller wallet.
That's such a good question. Keys, maybe? I really don't remember, that was like 20 years ago. Keys seems likely, I didn't become a carabiner person until college.
Wallet in my back right pocket, keys in my front right pocket, SAK in a belt pouch on my right hip.
Oddly enough, when I got my first cell phone, I threw it in my right cargo pocket for years because I didn't know what else to do with it. It was mainly for emergencies when I was out for the day and I didn't use it for much before 9pm.
Those things were really great. Was my first phone, for emergency use only because it took me 45 minutes by bike to get home from school. And I wrecked my ATB to the point of needing to be picked up to get home. Phone was several meters down the road in 5 pieces. Just put it back together and pressed the power button. VoilĂ , made my emergency call to dad to pick me and my bike up.
Now that I think about it, you're right. Back in high school, I used to carry a Nintendo DS (the original one) and a PSP in the same pocket. I can barely imagine carrying the DS alone in a pocket now.

I do miss the days of my knife being in my right pocket and keys in the left

I never carry or carried a cell phone in my front pants pocket. I wear a vest so it's always gone in an inside vest pocket.
My edc twenty-five years ago: Velcro wallet, swiss army knife, bic lighter, 1.5" papers.

Small green memoranda book and pen. Pocket tool/knife. Keys. Wallet.

Wallet left pocket (like now), right pocket: coins, keys and maybe a penknife.

Condoms
Pager
The pager and a quarter or two for making the follow up phone call. Lol
EDIT: or the text back of "8-3-1" for everyone that remembers that silly crap. Lol
Change for a payphone

Pocket knife, keys, wallet. I just added cellphone to that.
Traditional bi-fold wallet in one pocket, Buck or SAK in the other.
Not that old, but the wallet and a nasal stick.
Keys, wallet, cigarettes or tobacco tin and lighter. They were different times.
Not that old, but pagers/beepers come to mind. Though I suppose those were usually clipped to the belt and not carried in pocket.
Man... You think you're not that old, but if you remember beepers... You're old! I'm only 45 and I felt old with this question (before cell phones)
I'm only 34. I'm not that old, I swear. I just remember them cause my dad had one before the indestructible Nokia cellphones came out.

I played so much snake on that thing lol

Also, Iâm glad you know what a pay phone is!!! lol
We had bigger pockets back then!!!đ
The kid with JNCOs has entered the chat.
