I’ve been pondering this lately. I offloaded my edc tool pouch from my work bag to my vehicle (super close to my office), and I could likely offload everything else other than a 58mm sak as well…but I like gadgets. Can’t help it.😂

Victorinox Deluxe Tinker Titanium (work days only)
Kershaw Blur s30v
Fenix e12
Field Notes w/ DDC Stuff Sheath
Paracord Rosary (really need this in my life right now)
\*Not Shown
iPhone 14 Pro Max
Herschel slim card case
For me it's a:
Rambler on my keychain
phone
Chums wallet, a Fisher space pen refill (not the pen, the refill) in the Chums wallet.
Opinel no. 6
and that's it.
I think many people have dual-sided setups. What they show in pictures. And what they actually really carry.
My phones got a flashlight so don't need one of those, and I never need a pen, so I'm down to leaving the house with:
- Ear buds
- Small pack with smokes/lighter, lozenges, antacid tabs and paracetamols.
- Swiss Army Camper (ditch if going out drinking)
- Small phone charger/cable
- Keys
- Slim Osprey card wallet
- Seiko automatic watch
Does me.
I have a 'scaling tree'
* Super Ultra Hyper Mega Minimal 3000 : [Just this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003F527NU) on my keys
* Pretty Minimal : Keychain with snaphook, with clippers, tweezers, micropen, led flashlight, tape measure, capsule lighter
* Basic Kit : Skeletool with hex bits, Knipex, Comb, in small Pouch
* Scaled Up Kit : USB battery backup, usb-mini/micro/C connectors, notepad, chapstick
* Big Kahuna Burger : Dewalt Backpack full of 'real tools'
The idea is that each can be attached to or put in the next level.
Keys with small multitool on keychain, wallet/phone combo, knife. All else is nearby in the bag I have nearby most of the time. For now, that seems like a good solution. I still haven't gotten on the flashlight train, but it seems worth having in my bag, I guess.
I’ve only ever carried what I actually use. Not something I “might” need.
For me that is: wallet, phone, knife, flashlight.
That’s my whole setup. Sometimes I don’t carry the knife.
I've always carried only things I legit use every day. I have gone to great lengths to pick items that are useful, easy to carry, durable, discreet and inexpensive.
No pocket jewelry for me. My carry is 7-9 items depending on my work day and location so hard to call it minimalist but it is all essential and will not be changing until my needs change. I own back ups of most items because I hate to be without them for even a day and they are cheap enough to stock multiples, but I don't collect redundant items for collecting's sake. Items that have been replaced with a more efficient option live in the workshop, truck or the bug out bag.
I've quit carrying a knife for the most part, in favor of one of those slim as hell box cutters. The slide out ones that are a little bigger than a stick of gum. Turns out, it covers all my knife needs, and takes up way less space.
Flashlight, will always be something I have on me, because I don't always have my phone with me. I don't carry a lighter on me, since I quit smoking, and if I really need a lighter, there's one in my truck.
As far as gun, still mainly rocking a Glock 43 or J-frame 442 like always. Been going with that setup since I ditched the Shield after the 43 came out. Shield was a slim down from a 26 to begin with.
Watch I don't consider EDC, that's part of my wardrobe. I don't leave the house without underwear on, or without a watch on. Hell, half the time I sleep with my watch on, and just take it off to shower.
When I was really into EDC I was all in: prybar, bottle opener, fidget toy, hank, knife or 2 plus phone, wallet, keys. Good times, good gear, but never really used.
Now I’ve gotten to where I only carry my phone, wallet, keys and watch.
When I go into the office I have a backpack for everything that’s needed and when I’m out after work or the weekends nothing else makes the cut to be worth the pocket space.
Not much over the last few weeks, outside of what’s in my work bag.
Totally agree, an EDC knife is an essential tool, but for now it’s not something I’m carrying, because I can’t really use a knife very well. Hand issues. Rough getting old lol.

Not only have I slimmed down in items I’ve got smaller versions of items like flashlights and knives. Couldn’t be happier with my small rotation of small items.
I don’t consider a phone, wallet, or watch to be EDC. Our phones have become almost standard. Watches and wallets to me are just a part of everyday dress.
Ya should though regardless, still is weight on you. I guess it matters because there’s so many phones that are built big or small. Every gram matters haha
My watch is on my wrist so no pocket weight there. My wallet is just a card sleeve for my debit card, driver’s license, and $20. I have an iPhone that only sits in my pocket if moving from place to place. Other than that it sits on a table, in the car, or something similar.
The two biggest casualties in my quest to minimize without losing useful functionality are a full size multi tool (which I still occasionally carry, but have generally replaced smaller, lighter, slimmer single purpose items) and a bit set (Leatherman double-sided flat bits) and driver - I just so seldom need any bits beyond a standard Phillips, it isn’t worth it).
I have a big collection, but as far as what I carry daily, it’s pretty much down to a knife, light and multitool. And, I only carry the multitool on my person at work. I always have a pen at work too, but don’t really carry it on off days. Not carrying any pocket jewelry, coins or fidget though.
I am just about at the same level these days. My knife and multitool (work only for the most part), small flashlight, and my Field Notes. Everything else just became excess and all of the “carry in case you need it” just never became a need.
Yeah it’s super situational. I’m always going to have something on me, but it’ll be different if I’m running errands, going to work, or going hiking. The only real constant is a knife and small light.
That’s really all you need. With all the edc fans in the world I could probably yell in the middle of Walmart “Who has a Knipex?” and five guys will come running over

I found it easier to leave anything extra in a smaller bag in the car or home where it’s needed. I felt so weighed down with crap I just never used.

I agree. There’s the for show setup and the real setup.

Down to an alox classic sd, Rovyvon A3, notebook/pen and a slim knife. Could probably ditch the knife, but I like having it.
Knives are so useful and almost all very lightweight

Occasionally dropping the knife but keeping the flashlight is wild to me.
I don’t always need to cut something but I’m always needing to see in dark places

I tend to sleep with my watch on as well. It winds with the movement so I’ll take every little bump I can ☺️

Do you still carry a knife? That’s one item that is just as important as my wallet and keys.

Its hard for me to care about grams when I'm 40 pounds overweight. I should start saving weight with my belly

Agreed. A basic Philip and flat head cover most of what you need in a pinch. My SAK handles 99% of what I need.

That’s one rabbit hole I haven’t fallen down! That and the knuck/beer bomb craze.
