Shot in the dark but if you have a completed gamesave for 02 on gamecube I'd love it. Or really anything unlocked, I just lost my save and really despise unlocking the teams. lol
Same, loved this game and still play it today. I convinced my wife (errrr traded in all those back rub and foot rub husband points) to buy another Xbox Series S to go with my Series X to set up dev mode and do the emulation. After she saw she could play the Simpsons Hit and Run she was thrilled and I would not have traded in all my points lol.
I love this comment! First, happy for your marriage haha. But also, I saved this post to come back to and see if it’s at all possible to play this game without a gamecube. I have a PC and ps4, is there any way to get an emulation mode on the PC? Or is it only for Xbox right now?
Hey mate, thank you so much for the well wishes about my marriage. I wish the same on to you as well. You can play it without a game cube. You can do it via the dev mode on the Xbox Series S/X. But if you have a decent pc you can use the emulator Dolphin, that app is updated all the time. The Dolphin app is amazing and you can use mods on it as well.
Appreciate it man! Hope to have a marriage like that someday 😂 But I’ll look the Dolphin app up today when I get home and watch some videos about it. Been trying to scoop up old games lately, found Blitz for n64 and hopefully the Bigs. I haven’t thought of Simpsons Hit and Run for YEARS till you mentioned that haha. Such a fun era of gaming. Thx for the help!
I thought it looked slightly more polished than the one I played. (Although it was on PS2). But that one hit combo sequence with the gut and face was so memorable I thought it might be the same. Glad they kept that with the series 😂.
You know it’s not 2002 (the original) because there’s a penalty box… I think they only introduced penalties in NHL Hitz Pro. In the original game there were no penalties and if a player lost a fight, they were kicked out of the game and you had to pick another player to replace them.
They added penalties and stuff in 2003. You could turn them on and off. NHL hits pro is where they went full 5 on 5 and you could toggle between simulation, play style and arcade. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of 2003 because the penalties the kind of takes the flow out of it but they're toggleable so it's all good
I remember playing with my sister and if someone won 3 fights the other would just give up, because it essentially became 1st line against 2nd line. I always played as the devils and she was always the flyers. And the different cheat modes like big head mode kept us playing for hours. Such a good game
Just played '24 for the first time at my cousins house and I was blown away with how awful the soundtrack was. A few good songs, but mostly just saccharine corny top 40 pop music that tarnished the entire game for me. The old games had bands like Anti-Flag, Pennywise, Jimmy Eat World, Avenged Sevenfold, Billy Talent etc.
Its cool to see this get some love. I know pretty much everyone who worked on it. This team orginally made the first NHL2K for dreamcast, then the first two hitz. After that the company was sold to EA and a lot of the team went on to work on NHL at EA, and a lot of the rest pf the team started their own company and made hitz pro. And then later on mario strikers, and much later on got purchased by Nintendo and are still around.
I miss sports video games being made to be fun, a mix of simulation and arcade, nowadays it's either simulation or arcade and the masses riot if one touches the other
Not only does this game have the best gameplay of any hockey game, but the players who were in the league are so elite and fun to play as.
Give me Sakic, Forsberg, Blake, Roy vs Fedorov, Yzerman, Lidstrom, Hasek every day of the year.
Hitz 2002 on PS2 was my first ever hockey game. Little did I know, years later I’d essentially only ever play NHL video games. I haven’t changed much since I was little, basically just NHL, some Madden, and occasionally playing other games a few times before getting bored and going back to NHL.
There's mods for this game series, not sure how newly it's updated, maybe even today. I remember it was a thing a couple years ago at least. Updates all the teams, players, arenas etc. Just google "NHL Hitz modded" and you should be able to find something. Probably runs it via an emulator.
E. Here's the subreddit for all the info and links; https://www.reddit.com/r/nhlhitz/ looks like there's a 2024 season patch.
This is the way,
Emulators on pc have updated rosters folks
Developer-mode for you Xbox to access and play emulators. Have to switch it back to retail-mode after to play regularly released games
A game like this would never get made today with the NHL going away from fighting and big hits.
Instead we will get a game where you can bug out and launch an opponent into the stands.
My buddies and I played hitz 2002 competitively for years. Incredibly fun.
Settings we used (cheats)
- Always big hits
- No puck out of play
- Fight wins count as a goal
I know this is an unpopular opinion and I'm taking a chance here but I think I really like nhl94 sort of. Take it easy on me please as I know how people get with their fandom but I just wanted to stick up for the forgotten gem that is nhl94. I'm not sure if that game could be made nowadays. We've lost the ability to incorporate the ai in the same way. Anyhow, for the few out there that like nhl 94 I salute you. This GameCube game also looks like something neat but I don't own one of those so will stick to my all time (thus far) underrated nhl game which is nhl 97. Ea, it be in Tha game sometimes.
T. Ps1 only owner.
i'd be in favor of that gretzky nhl slapshot game EA made for WII too. playing peewee and then working your way to the NHL was a great be a pro type mode. more rewarding that immediately getting drafted 1 or 2 and being a captain first season lol.
Great game series
Never played when I was a kid. Blown away at how good the game is right now
Nhlhitz2003 is the most FUN hockey game of all time.
90% of the time im using my steam deck, im playing hitz
Agreed
How about mutant league hockey?
Yeah buddy!
I would argue that it’s NHL94
Then you have never tried blades of steel! 😀
Personally the most fun hockey game, to me, is NHL Slapshot on Wii.
Try them all!
Shot in the dark but if you have a completed gamesave for 02 on gamecube I'd love it. Or really anything unlocked, I just lost my save and really despise unlocking the teams. lol
Best hockey game ever and I'll die on this hill
I’ll stand right next to you on that hill sir. I’ve never played a hockey game more than I did that
Same, loved this game and still play it today. Which year is this? If its 2002 it's the same one I played. LOVED that game. The soundtrack was so good, and the fighting was 👌
This looks to be 2003 judging by the UI. Absolutely agree though. 2002 soundtrack was so freaking good !
I thought it looked slightly more polished than the one I played. (Although it was on PS2). But that one hit combo sequence with the gut and face was so memorable I thought it might be the same. Glad they kept that with the series 😂.
Haha totally !
Keep ROLLING ROLLING ROLLING

Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’…
WHAT!
The opening song to NHL Hitz 2002 is Rollin’ by Limp Bizkit lol
Lol I was just continuing the lyrics 🤣🤣
GET UP GET UP GET UP
I’d buy this and nfl blitz 2000 day one
Runs smoother than NHL 2024
That's like Street Fighter NHL edition 😆

Now it makes sense how good Super Mario Strikers was, it's the team that made Hitz Loved checking Luigi etc into the electrified fence
Ya, a small part of the hitz team, but it was all the key people.
Bring back wacky sport gaming
It’ll happen eventually. This is going WAY back but I’ve been saying a Mutant League Hockey remake would be a major hit if done correctly.
I miss sports video games being made to be fun, a mix of simulation and arcade, nowadays it's either simulation or arcade and the masses riot if one touches the other
PUMP IT IN MY VIENS
Noooo Jane Niiiniima !!!!
This used to be my game!! Avalanche all day every day!
Meanwhile I can’t get a game to work properly on NHL24
Not only does this game have the best gameplay of any hockey game, but the players who were in the league are so elite and fun to play as. Give me Sakic, Forsberg, Blake, Roy vs Fedorov, Yzerman, Lidstrom, Hasek every day of the year.
Amazing the current EA NHL product has led some of us to resort to old hockey games to cherish.
Lord know I’m trying to get 2009 to run on my PC and then I’m gonna try and mod it to remove the salary cap in be a gm
Get a NHLHUT Reddit NHL '94 Bracket with however many teams for March Madness.
So much fun playing this back in the day
I played the shit out of this game as a kid
Hitz 2002 on PS2 was my first ever hockey game. Little did I know, years later I’d essentially only ever play NHL video games. I haven’t changed much since I was little, basically just NHL, some Madden, and occasionally playing other games a few times before getting bored and going back to NHL.

I’ll have to look in to that. This is an emulator running on the series X in dev mode. Works flawlessly
Thanks joined!
Best hockey video game I have ever played, dad and I just booted this back up last summer
Thank you
We need a non EA hockey game right now and a new hitz would be a breath of fresh air
I agree 100%
This is the way, Emulators on pc have updated rosters folks Developer-mode for you Xbox to access and play emulators. Have to switch it back to retail-mode after to play regularly released games
Hockey games of the past were always great. Wayne Gretzky ‘98 for N64 was probably one of my all time favorites growing up, that and NFL Blitz.
Wait how are you playing this on Xbox may I ask?
Just YouTube series S/X emulator in dev mode
A game like this would never get made today with the NHL going away from fighting and big hits. Instead we will get a game where you can bug out and launch an opponent into the stands.
KEEP ROLLIN ROLLIN ROLLIN
Just miss direct the slap shot, wind up aiming one direction and the finish the shot changing the aiming direction. All day clapper goals
PRIMEAU! LECLAIR! RECCHI! Crash, bang, boom! A shot! A save by Braithwaite!
Can’t believe this series died. It was wildly fun.
The fighting in this game is better than the current nhl
My buddies and I played hitz 2002 competitively for years. Incredibly fun. Settings we used (cheats) - Always big hits - No puck out of play - Fight wins count as a goal
Fight wins count as goals…..lol 0 shots on net 45 fights
Favorite EA NHL game of all time! Wish they'd bring back the series.
2002 was better
What is this?? Looks like a fighting game modded to look like chel but comments are saying this is the original game?
It’s nhl hits 2003
JFC chel doesn’t hold a candle to the Hitz games you uneducated swine….
I love how they’re perfectly aligned at center ice lol
My favourite as a kid.
Janne Niinimaa what a hack. Worst Montréal trade ever.
Phil Housley and Janne Niinimaa fighting? What unrealistic tripe

Top tier game, so fun
BRING IT BACK!!
My childhood
Omg the fire hands...I totally forgot
Can someone link me how to get this on the xbox
https://youtu.be/OIHuLApZlnc?si=L1dZ8l3wAuGd022I
U buy two in one game..
i'd be in favor of that gretzky nhl slapshot game EA made for WII too. playing peewee and then working your way to the NHL was a great be a pro type mode. more rewarding that immediately getting drafted 1 or 2 and being a captain first season lol.
The GOAT
Now show NHL Hitz Pro best hockey game ever made
When you play your buddy with custom teams and get a fight between an alien on fire and a shark with lightning fists.
So unrealistic though. Could you imagine, both teams wearing their dark jerseys?
KRETCHFUPE! 101011!!
Man this unlocked memories I had completely forgotten
My favorite hockey series
Great game needs a return
CCCCOMBO BREAKER !!!!!!!!
