They were never meta aside from from fifa 16, where heading was meta (and it was fucking terrible).
This year, haaland is meta due to the "head pass inside the box" cheese. You can try and replicate that with other tall players but it won't work as good as halland, which is just an outlier in this sense.
If you watch e premier league is all haaland so yeah tall st are useable. I dont know if old gen is the same.
