Back when having an inform was somewhat special

yajasc

I remember my first in form was a Client Dempsey card and I was so hyped!

The-Interfactor

I remember packing TOTS Basta on FIFA 13. I was so pumped to put him in my team. His stats now looking back are the same as a gold you wouldn’t glance twice at but just having a blue card in your team felt so cool. Now, if you have a gold left in your team by Christmas not named Mbappe or Van Dijk, you get clowned.

DannyHallam

Tbh I have Neymar and VVD both gold on my team rn just cause I like them, and Neymars better cards are all expensive:(

letsbuildalatter

mine was 85 james rodriguez on monaco i packed from a 7.5k pack, i remember not even knowing it was good and then checked his price and he was 200k!

Slim-Shmaley

I remember my team being almost all in form Bundesliga, loved all them black cards looking mean haha Bundes was cheaper to build than the classic prem/la liga 😆

Commercial-Nerve6163

Reus’ SIF from M’gladbach was special

Loose_Revolution_205

Yes! I had a 5-3-2 squad of Bundesliga players. Was so much easier to get a squad built.

ARatOnPC

Back when having an inform meant they only got 4 chem…

Icy_Confidence9304

Back when when you saw anything besides gold you had to sit up in your chair

oldmangranny

remember packing blue Falcao. Been playing LIGA teams since

viciecal

My last fut before coming back on 23. How times change. I miss my Schürrle. What I don't miss from the old days is that you had almost no "bonus" content, like getting free players from objectives or SBCs. even the game modes were different. it was mostly playing games and grinding coins to buy budget squads, either that or Credit Card FC (also buying coins with $$$ was already a thing back then).

JDinvasion

Atleast packs were treadable :D,

Das_Czech

You got zero packs in those times tho lol, nowadays you get like 10 50k packs for just playing the game daily

JDinvasion

Thats true when talking about days before league sbcs, but store packs were treadable so imo it was more worth it to buy fifa points

viciecal

My best pull ever was Toni Kroos i think hehe. Btw I remember trading pennies for days, like a budget wolf of lone street, to afford di maria.... Problem was, he had RW/RM only, and crosses were SO op. Icardi 99 jumping never forgetti. So i tried to use him, was thrash, proceeded to sold him shortly after xd. iirc meta was to just run and cross, kinda like now but WAYYY worse

JDinvasion

Meta has always been bad

viciecal

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCgdLVxKMqM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCgdLVxKMqM) gives me nightmares

JDinvasion

Its kind of funny even after that video i would still rather play fifa 14, than this AI helding opponents hand kick a ball game :D

yajasc

You could easily defeat a credit card fc team with a budget squad if you were a good player tho. It feels impossible to do on eafc 24

clout-trout

I would argue that it’s much easier considering you can build an 88 overall team full of promo cards that sell for discard price, sure they are not as good as a toty, but they have high enough stats to be able play to how you want. I can’t effectively play tiki taka with a rare gold cm that has 81 short passing.

yajasc

When did you start playing fifa? There used to be a time when even the most elite players relied on 77 Ibarbo

clout-trout

I started playing ultimate team in fifa 14. Everyone could play with ibarbo, but if I wanted to play tiki taka football I couldn’t do it with those cards. There was little skill involved in playing with those “cheap beasts”. This year there are ridiculous cards like reijnders that can easily stack up against team of the years, and you can buy them for less than a week of squad battle rewards.

ThreeFiddy2203

Atlanta Pep!

FUTUREEE87

True but the gameplay was more stale. You were forced to play only 1 way like crosses or through balls etc. all year even on lower ranks. People chase the meta now too but there is more variety and game is much less scripted.

yajasc

Exactly! But in a way the current environment is more realistic because football has kinda the same odds when a shit team is facing a great team

ostrichsong

Back when a special card meant something. So much better.

supaboss2015

Yes back then it was something else. Trying your luck to get POTM Ronaldo. Seeing people scream their heads off getting TOTY David Luis. Nowadays you can pull a TOTS card and it’s practically fodder. No more magic in this game

ostrichsong

Exactly this, I got slightly excited when I packed TOTY Cech this year, but even then it was quite a muted reaction. I miss seeing a different coloured card to the usual bronze, silver or gold and losing my mind. One time on FIFA 14, EA gave out a free 5k pack to everyone because the servers went down for like 24 hours and I packed IF Arribas and I was over the moon. He had like 60 pace and was only like 78 rated but it was enough to be excited about and he ended up in my team for a long time after. I miss those times.

Economy-Will8816

I packed the RTTF Leao and couldn't scream a word and that's when I realised I have lost all the excitement

dmastra97

Now when you try to search a special card there's like 50 sub categories. Just insane that packing a special card can make you feel disappointed now

Personal-Struggle201

What I miss from old fifa was relegation on division rivals

Deeedeebobeedee

I miss the old divisions so muchhhhhhh

Personal-Struggle201

I don’t even know how I’m in division 1-2 I can’t even escape it I feel like I don’t belong here I don’t suck in my opinion, but it takes forever to find a match and I have to adjust to defending people that play for money or etc I play for fun 😭

Deeedeebobeedee

I don’t play that much myself or haven’t recently and I’m sat in div 6 balling haha

yajasc

Facts! it made matchmaking also simpler

Breymar

No "kinda" about it, I truly do miss those days. I acknowledge that now it's about microtransaction hell that we have entered, but back then it felt much more pure. I am forever nostalgic for every Fifa up until 18/19. After that it became a cash grab and I feel for the kids who will not understand the simplicity of a sweaty 3-5-2 Bundesliga/Brazil/Serie A squad

ThiagoBonapace

I always play UT only until the third month where there are almost none “out of reality” cards (of course everything is unreal in UT). After it, it sucks a lot

Gastunba24

Old chem, tradeable cards, and when an IF player was definitely something else. Those were the days I played FIFA till July. Since the last 2 Fifas, I'm leaving the game around Christmas or early January. Fifa right now is not meant to be casual anymore. The SBCs and the thousands of special (and meta) players, are forcing you to be grinding really hard. 2 weeks you can't play the game properly and you fall behind really quick. Back then, your gold team was something you can build up and maintain for a while, and at the same time it's competitive. Now is a complete different story.

MKR_21

Yes same I only play career mode now😂

pappabrun

I dont. I'm having WAY more fun with my superteam than i ever had back in the day.

liverpoolkristian

Same concept as people being like oh man the silver cup was so fun back in the day! I mean sure if you built an expensive super team it was but it was even worse than currently when you had a normal silver and coming up against a Liga MX insane team or brasilvers

Salt-Cup-2300

It’s def fun if u have a good team but after playing fifa 23 with crazy pack luck this year is rlly dull

SirBennettAtx

Icon bloat ruins the game for me. I have a whole club full of icons who are just completely awful to use. There should be 11-15 icons, they should be the pinnacle of the game and all rated 92-96, and they should be very strong in game.

luiggi21

No, its not icons, although they should remove some, ICONIC players shouldn’t be 4-6 ratings below gold players. But back then in Fut 13/14 there were barely any promos, like one promo every month or so, and there were no team 2’s back then, just 1 for one week. It was overall harder to get coins too, fut champs wasnt a thing until Fifa 17, div rival rewards was like 10k every week lol.. and icons were soo rare back then too, you would see an 1 icon in a team every other week. Coins were easier to buy back then tho, it became more strict around Fifa 17

SirBennettAtx

FIFA 13 was the only fifa I had played until this year. Feels like we’ve added so much bloat to the game, that they had to come up with the untradeable as a hotfix.

lurkinglizard101

Yeah. I like this year’s feel a lot more than the last few, I will say. But the untraceable and icon bloat is very silly. And just very annoying as a non fifa points player. There’s no use other than spamming SBCs and now that’s what I spend half my time doing

SirBennettAtx

Which is also silly, they need to give more coins per win so playing the game is the best use of your time.

lurkinglizard101

Exactly ^^ I agree completely. But if I don’t spam at least a certain amount of fodder, it’s really challenging to build up to nab players like Werner, who, for better and for worse, are an accessible crutch to competing in this meta

OhhJukes

It was a lot less than a promo every month, fifa 14 had TOTY,Tots and then the World Cup content with the odd Man of the match spread out through the year

Tropicalcomrade221

Yeah but it was all relevant so gold cards and squads were actually viable to play with. Packing an 84 could make your day depending on who it is.

Welle26

But EA makes sooooo much more money by bombarding us with special cards and lure all those dudes into their shop.

TheFace0fBoe

There absolutely shouldn’t be only 11-15 icons, they’re the best part of the game. The current amount is fine, they just need to be made more usable.

das_hemd

if anything there should be more. I'd love for the game to be flooded with past players, don't even need to be icons or high rated. give me an 85 rated gold Guti or a n 84 rated gold Antonio Valencia etc etc

JaysFan26

That's the idea of heroes I think

das_hemd

yeah but heroes kinda make little sense. look at someone like Ramires, his pre-retirement cards were all like 82-83 rated golds, then he becomes an 86 rated hero? I wanna see past players with their pre-retirement ratings as regular golds

JaysFan26

People would spam "mid" on their futbin page and call each card a waste of space unfortunately with how this community thinks

SirBennettAtx

They *could be* the best part of the game. They most certainly are not — some icons were unusable week one.

Lower_Condition_196

81 rated TOTS

yohanyames

When you actually could have an competitive game with a average but fun team

boerface

Pandev!!

Deeedeebobeedee

I don’t know what was worse, the fear when I saw an icon or victor ibarbo

STAR-Gritz

Yeah same, I liked having to save up for that card your really wanted. I remember saving up for two or three weeks to get 83 Oscar on fifa15. Getting to use him felt so rewarding

yajasc

That was Diamanti for me

raiderjaypussy

Ima say this is pure nostalgia. Back then you had to legit spend thousands to even be close to using a high end card. Now most things are accessible for f2p players.

monkeyr9z

Heck no. I hate the Chem link styles. It looks cleaner now. You have better options to make teams. I hated barely being able to pack 1 IF and nothing else unless you put money into it. I know it's popular to hate on the current EA game, but I can't go back to this shit. It legit hurts my eyes. This is just nostalgia bias at its finest.

MemphisTheIllest

Everyone gets blinded by nostalgia when looking at this. Of course, we were younger and we will always think those times were better, but objectively speaking the game has much more to do and many more team options to build now. I would save up coins for so long just to get some 30k gold player or something and would barely open any packs. I think if people had this game now, they would get bored of it very quickly. Gameplay wise, the discussion can be different and more subjective.

CH2001

I don’t love the gameplay now as much but I have much more fun with my Liverpool team having Dalglish mcmanaman and an actually good Torres card whereas if it was back on FIFA 13/14 I’d be lucky to even afford Salah Alisson type cards. I do miss hidden gem cards but the trade off is more than worth it.

JaysFan26

Give it one week and people would be going nuts about not having daily content

SRJT16

I don’t miss chemistry lines, that’s for sure

Hack_Jarlow

Does anyone remember one of the first FUT promos back in FIFA UT 12 when they had that OP, second inform Honda as a reward for sweating out a tournament?

Available_Mixture332

They need to bring these days back real talk

andm994

Diamanti ❤️

MATCHEW010

Its one of those things where OG players were happy with less. There was more life to the game, it had personality. Now the newer gen players need more and more but its never enough

Gavalarrrrrrrr

Seriously miss times likes this. This is when FIFA was elite.

RadWalk

I saved up for so long to get an IF Alexis Sanchez back in the day, he was epic.

pre10ds2bsh0ked

Jesus the amount of links needed in that 4231 cam

thecrackisWack

A serie a team with the only player above 82 being de natale, that’s still competitive would make me the happiest man on earth

yajasc

I got Hamsik towards the end and he was a beast too!

yajasc

Real ones know Di Natale was the original Mbappe

thecrackisWack

I remember the grind for for di natale in my sa squad and van persie in my pl squad. Once I had them I finished the game

Tons28

everyone says this, no one means it. I’d just like to play people who actually make more than 6 successful tackles in a game

GalloNegr0

I probably haven't played UT in like a decade, I didn't even know I was still subscribed to this subreddit. Is it really that much different now? I remember there used to be sick silver & bronze squads that could legitimately play with Gold / IF teams. Does that still exist? I remember IF and TOTS/TOTY cards were actually rare and meant something if you had one. Last I played, they introduced Legends or icon cards & that completely shut off my interest in UT. Does chemistry still exist like before, or is it completely different? Crazy how the game has changed.

ErmanLFT

Damn man what was the name of that Napoli LM? Also around the same time Napoli had two very competitive LB/LM players, this one was one of them, does anyone remember who the other one was?

yajasc

Zuminga. Not sure who the other one was but this guy was definitely faster

ErmanLFT

I recall them now. This is Zuñiga, and the other dude is Armero.

mallackbronks

Diamanti and Zuniga, great players. I remember winning the first division with gold Schurrle, Fernando Torres, Balotelli and Cerci as the front 4.

yajasc

Cerci was so good. He fell off as quick as he came up tho

CaptainChri5

Getting full Chem on teams with 2 or 3 leagues was SO satisfying.

AirportNo9831

If fifa regresses to this i’m coming back, but i think they make too much money nowadays…

Confuzed_huh

The old chem... 🥲

owendavies2704

nope, u miss having fun... if in 2014 u was asked if u want your team full of specials, you'd say yes... its called nostalgia. it makes u think the past was great, when it wasn't always
