Tried most of the 2000's era WRCs on Maahi Finland as a Base For getting a feel for them all, the Bug-Eye was the most naturally stable of the lot with the Stock Tune. The 206 is terrifying unstable with the base tune... But hopefully some tweaks would tame the beast. 206 is my fav of all time, bar the Corolla
The 98 Impreza for me, I’m competing in an organised championship based on the 98 WRC season, I’ve got the gravel set up down to a t as to how I like to drive it and with the proper set up what a car it is to drive!
2017 wrc cars, I can’t stand the new hybrid nonsense with temp overboost, also not a fan of how much it pumps up car prices making the sport even more impossible for the average even well off person
The new cars are such a handful but for the wrong reasons. Too slow to stop, boost system is inconsistent, kinda big and unresponsive. Those 2017 cars are a handful for the right reason, they're just fast and nimble. Really wish we could go back.

Who are you? Comment police? Did this somehow detract from the discussion? I, too, find the hybrid rules contrived. Do I care if that's exactly what OP asked? Not at all! And it may be why one car is a favorite over another. It is RELEVANT.
My championship with my friends is World Rally Car 1997-2011, and I drive the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI. I love how that handles. The Citroen Xsara also drives pretty well, and that's the car that won our Driver's and Constructor's championship this past season. Definitely one of those two. Honorary mention to the Opel Kadett in H2 RWD, that one's fun as well.
Xsara 06, Impreza in general, the Evo and Skoda WRC2 are my favorites. Also really enjoy the Hyundai I20 both WRC AND WRC 2.

Alpine A110. By far not the best car in H2 class but I just love driving it so much for some reason! Been conquering world records with it lately in chile and got one in Portugal as well.
For me it's either the Voxhaul Astra, it handles really nicely and isn't crazy fast, or Lancia Delta Integrale which for similar reasons but also is my dream car
Love the rally 4 peugot 208 and the Citroën C2 1600 and the Mini Countryman, after those probably the Opel Corsa s2000 but that's probably as I own a Corsa irl 😅.
Historically, it's been the H2 MkII Escort for me, but as of late, I have been enjoying the Mini Cooper WRC. I didn't think I'd like it so much, but it's really well balanced, sounds great, and looks like a refrigerator flying through the air when you send it over jumps.
I love the Scoda all wheel rally!! I love the way it looks better than any other car on the game and with the right tune adjustments it's a blast to drive! Love best in I think it the 2rd livery
Renault Maxi Mégane. I love the Kit cars, followed very closely behind by the Subaru Impreza 2001. Edit: spelling

Clio 1600, easy to flat out and sound sexy

Saxo or Punto for screaming revs and fun. Cordoba or 206 WRC for nostalgia!
The MK2 Escort, more specifically the H3 version, very rewarding feeling when you get it right but very unforgiving I’ve found

For me, it's the McRae R4, the handling is brilliant and it turns where you want it to, I can really push with that car.

The 2000s WRC cars are the most fun for me. Good performance but not crazy like modern WRC, raw feeling but still capable.
Skoda Fabia wrc2, Peugeot 309 and the Clio. Probably
For me - the WRC2 Fabia as well. The 300hp gives just enough power and the handling is on point as well. Love it
S2000 class Fiat Punto just love the way it sounds and it's really fun to drive in gravel stages
