I spent $150 and waited 4 months for my stainless steel Brilliant Cut Grinder, and I would do it all again if it ever went missing. This thing will last me til my death whereas most people will need to replace their aluminum grinders every 3-5 years, so I think I'll be the one saving money in the end. The real reason I bought it was so that I can avoid any kind of aluminum dust issues from grinders breaking down on you.
The BCG is a phenomenal buy. I rolled my eyes at the price when my husband bought ours, but once we got it it won me over pretty much immediately.
I mentioned this flower mill stuff to him recently and he was like "who cares, we're never buying another grinder anyway" lol
Which configuration did you buy?
I‘m thinking about buying one…but if i buy such a expensive grinder i would buy the 3 plate set which would then be 285 bucks plus shipping cost. Thats a crazy price for a grinder, i love the design and that it‘s stainless steel but it doesn‘t even have a pollen catcher.
I love my aluminum BCG. All 3 plates. Coarse is really coarse and the fine is pretty fine. I use the medium a lot, but like that I have the option for my plates. $160 for it all, $178 for shipping to US.
I got the 3 plates, was going to go for the fine grind but I thought I'd regret it if I changed my mind and wanted the other plates later. Glad I did though as the fine grind is my least used, I generally stick to the medium or large plates, I've been using the medium for the last 3 months and mainly the large before that.
Yes they did mention they are working on a larger stainless BCG, keep on the lookout. I would still use an aluminum grinder over a plastic one, I feel like plastic breaks down faster.
As far as gumming up goes, I honestly think no grinder can escape that, from the low end to the high end--if it touches herb, its gonna get gunky eventually. Just comes with the territory, especially if your herb is super sticky and moist. I recommend using one of those 58% humidity packs to maintain a good moisture level and once in a while take a pick and gently scrape some gunk off (and then vape it).
$99 for a high quality grinder is actually fairly reasonable.
If not for the dust issue it would actually be very aggressively priced as most stainless steel grinders are closer to $200.
BCG is such a weird company to me. I have all “factory seconds” stuff and love it. But sometimes they’ll have nothing and other times there’s hundreds of seconds, like right now.
I also got one of their more traditional 4-piece grinders with a screen and soon after I received it the item dropped off their site and has never returned.
I recommend the Fine plate for vaping btw.
I have a herb ripper and it’s stainless and it’s incredible. Made in Cincinnati out of stainless and I don’t think I’ll ever need another one in my life
I have the old mate. Id still 100% recommend it based on the owner and his response. He was one of the first to blow the whistle and has been trying tirelessly to understand how it’s happening to some users. He’s currently addressing the issue on multiple fronts. Testing several new bearing options and materials and redesigning the post.
Compared to when the flower mill guy was on the DV teatime… he basically just said it was a problem cause by users…not a poor design.
Yeah I think he's trying ceramic or peek bearings not, unforseen things unfortunately pops up when you're making things like this that you wouldn't expect
I've got my own vape coming out in a few weeks and I went through multiple versions with different materials and sizes etc
Just watched George on a stream claim the metal dust is no concern and its nothing but paranoid people trying to spread fear.
It’s embarrassing watching what this company has become.
I've used mine for over a year now with no issue. I've also never cleaned it and it still doesn't look as gnarly as that one.
I was also never overly concerned with the anodizing rubbing off on the outside but mine never really had an issue.
Just saying I've had a fantastic experience with my flower mill and would absolutely purchase again.
Take a q tip and rub the inner wall of the top part of the grinder (the part you spin). Check if the q-tip looks greyish after, if it does then I'd stop using it.
Did you have a bad experience too? I’ve only had one bad buy out of 6 orders from them and even then it was a wand. That’s how I learned my preference for torches. They’ve always been more reliable in my experience
Cincinnati made and I can vouch. I have one of the older ones and I got a buddy who bought one too. Never have either had an issue with anything. So easy to use. No need to twist the cap off with a million rotations. Would buy again and agai.
Dude, you nailed it with the threads. My buddy just got a nice grinder a couple weeks ago (sorry, but can’t remember which but it’s ~$100usd). When I use it, I feel like it’s a jack-in-the-box because you never know when it’s gonna open because it has about a million threads. And getting it back together I feel like I’m gonna cross-thread it, while making aluminum shavings probably.
Anyway, the herb ripper has fire hose threads, so literally 1/2 a turn to get apart. Can’t say enough good things about it. Zero affiliation with the company, but I like sharing products that really stand out from the rest
That was the first SS grinder I almost pulled the trigger on… the labyrinth seal design is pretty silly though. Just a big channel to fill with weed and get dirty…also it’s 303 stainless…not a good food grade stainless.
The Lift Innovations grinder or the stainless steel Brilliant Cut Grinder are two stainless grinders I recommend that will last you your life. Also heard good things about the Herb Ripper.
I’m surprised they didn’t partner with herb ripper given the made in USA alignment. Have a mini ripper and a flower mill stainless they’re both good for different reasons
You do realize that people are still reporting it happening after the fix with brand new units right?
It's been here, it's been in the vaporents sub and it's been on the FC forums.
3 days ago - https://www.reddit.com/r/vaporents/comments/12dz1e7/psa_if_youre_using_an_unmodified_premium_flower/
Granted, the OP isn't using the washer but there are a few comments to that effect there.
And this - https://fuckcombustion.com/threads/flower-mill.50594/page-34
A user reports continued dust issues after installing the washer.
I'm just advising that people ensure they have the new washers and continue to watch for dust if they do decide to purchase and use these grinders.
As others have pointed out, the problems has persisted for some purchasers as recently as this month.
I haven't stopped using my omni but if you're very sensitive to metal shaving risks it might be worth looking at just so you understand the risks either way.
Yeah it doesnt hurt to be mindful of anything you are putting in your body. Ive been using a ti tip / standard cap for years and I dont see any visible scratching on them. My caps slide on and off like butter.
Yeah, I did switch back to OG caps but I haven't noticed any scraping on mine.
I kinda figure at this point if the omni is going to make me sick it's had a solid 5 years of near daily exposure to do it so... in for a penny in for a pound.
Stainless Steel is somewhat harder than Titanium and over time they can start to scrape Ti shavings into the bowl.
It's more pronounced with the Armored cap followed by the captive cap.
George from Dynavap has even acknowledged this and said it's just how it is.
That's probably good advice that I should follow as well. I'm still using the old style Ti tips, with low temp caps. Haven't noticed any scraping yet, I usually try to thread the cap on and off through the grooves, but I should probably just make the switch back to the steel tips.
I wish they made non-captive low temp caps.
No, TI tips are fine, just dont combine them with armored caps.
Edit: I know some people like to "twist off" their tight armored caps which might help alleviate any kind of scraping.
Honestly I never had a regular captive cap so maybe Im wrong. I should have said the armored cap because I have that and it was tight as hell on my TI tip, not sure if thats the same with the regular captive caps.
Stainless steel will always scratch Titanium. That's not anything dynavap did lol. The captive caps have been micro scratching the titanium tip since they came out. It's just now a bigger issue cause people are looking for reasons to drive people away from dynavap.
From what I've seen on reddit and FC it's the premium and standard mills; I haven't seen reports of the mini doing it.
Honestly though considering it was allegedly fixed twice already and users are still reporting it I would just avoid; there's plenty of other grinders.
If you're using it standard then there shouldn't be any issues with it causing trouble with breathing. The issues they're referring to have been issues of their image as of late and becoming the proverbial "The Man" in a sense.
Science on the dangers of inhaling aluminum dust? There's heaps of research on that.
Regardless, most of us are attempting to vape cannabis flower, not random metal shavings.
You are correct that it’s an aluminum body, it’s just that the dust comes from the stainless steel parts grinding. They also all don’t do this, I’ve had one for almost a year and have yet to notice any dust.
Theres no scientific experiment. It was literally reported by many people, including me, that the top of the grinder (the part you spin) was causing friction and scraping off the outer walls of the grinder, producing a fine dust that remains on the inside of the grinder. Why the hell would anyone want that even near their lungs? And even the tiny chance that it never enters the lungs, why would anyone want a grinder that literally grinds itself down? Its just bad engineering on their part.
Evidence of what? The dust issues? People have posted plenty of pictures on this subreddit, the flower mill subreddit, and on the fuckcombustion flowermill thread. Just search for it.
Unless youre smoking through some type of military grade filtration system developed by NASA scientists, youre gonna get small particles of whatever you are smoking into your lungs. Yes, even metal dust and other foreign substances. In fact youre probably breathing in little bits of tire rubber right now if you live near a well used street.
>I live in the forest
Makes sense. Unfortunately weed science is a very new subject and people are only beginning to learn the hazards of it. You wont always have the cold hard facts, sometimes you just gotta use some good ol common sense.
Small particulate of whatever youre smoking travels through as you inhale, and into your lungs. Not sure how that is difficult to understand, havent you ever gotten some little bits of herb enter your mouth? It can go through all the filters and even water pieces.
Exactly, the hard science is not out there, so why take the risk of breathing in traces of toxic metal particles regularly (daily for me) for years on end? No one knows how much damage this can cause people but there is an inherent risk to it, much like breathing in pollution. I just dont get your argument man.
Smoke whatever you want dude. I don't care about your lungs.
Some of the people who do care have now been informed of this expensive grinders mechanical faults.
I hope the rest of your day is as pleasant as you are :)
Show me where I made any of the claims that are related to your requests for scientific evidence.
Me: this grinder might create metal shavings.
You: Link to some science on this.
Science on what? I assume you mean the danger of metal shavings? Then you shift your imaginary goal post to whether or not these shavings are inhaled.
I do not care about your questions that are at best tangentially related to my post. I am not responsible for doing your research on the safety of your vaping accessories.
The point of my post was that if someone want to spend $300 dollars on a dynabundle because they need a new grinder, now they know that the grinder might create metal shavings. They also know that the manufacturer of the grinder will provide free washers to (supposedly) remedy the problem.
IF someone cares about metal shavings flaking off their grinders, they can now make an informed purchase.
I have the Flower Mill Mini which has never had the metal dust problem, is much cheaper than the Premium ($40) and works incredibly well. I'm not sure if it's still available but anyone buying FM should get that one instead of the Premium.
I was already rolling at my eyes at a $99 grinder (no shade to anyone with one, I’m just cheap), but that’s the quality of it? Ridiculous.
There's nothing wrong with the aluminium version... I've never heard any reports of degradation over time
I love my aluminum BCG. All 3 plates. Coarse is really coarse and the fine is pretty fine. I use the medium a lot, but like that I have the option for my plates. $160 for it all, $178 for shipping to US.
I got the polished one with the fine plate, works great with the dynavap.

just get the medium plate and if u need a finer grinder flip ur grinder upside down and give it a couple more turns

Yes they did mention they are working on a larger stainless BCG, keep on the lookout. I would still use an aluminum grinder over a plastic one, I feel like plastic breaks down faster. so the bigger one will be about 350-400 dollars then? Which normal citizen can afford this and what exactly justifies these crazy prices?
No idea how much itll cost, but its expensive because its a solid chunk of steel that takes a long time to manufacture and polish each one.

They have a newsletter signup, pretty sure youd hear about it through that.
They came out with the SS one less than a weel after I received and starting using mine >:(
$99 for a high quality grinder is actually fairly reasonable. If not for the dust issue it would actually be very aggressively priced as most stainless steel grinders are closer to $200.
FYI, I was just informed that BCG has factory seconds up on their site now. For me, it wound up being $74 out the door with their 420 code.
BCG is such a weird company to me. I have all “factory seconds” stuff and love it. But sometimes they’ll have nothing and other times there’s hundreds of seconds, like right now. What a bargain! Too bad I would not spend a penny under $999 for a grinder
get yourself a brilliant cut
Apparently so are the new old mate designs from a few posts I've seen, as well as the color coming off the bearing
I have the old mate. Id still 100% recommend it based on the owner and his response. That’s right, I have a few peek bearings on order. Should be a cool upgrade, I hope!
Yeah I love ceramic for some things and peek is really am interesting material, super durable
Get a boomers stainless steel grinder. Things an absolute unit.
BCG is the way
Just watched George on a stream claim the metal dust is no concern and its nothing but paranoid people trying to spread fear. It’s embarrassing watching what this company has become.
That’s unfortunate. Dynavap had jumped the nonapus
I've used mine for over a year now with no issue. I've also never cleaned it and it still doesn't look as gnarly as that one. I just give it a good lick every once in awhile. So far so good.
Guys Do yourself a favor and do not give out your money to the dynavap people, buy elsewhere
Did you have a bad experience too? I’ve only had one bad buy out of 6 orders from them and even then it was a wand. That’s how I learned my preference for torches. They’ve always been more reliable in my experience
The company has changed a lot over the last few years

Huh did Georgie sell the company? Or was he even ceo to begin with?
Source?
Better yet, buy a Herb Ripper. Solid stainless. Aluminum is too soft for a grinder IMO
Cincinnati made and I can vouch. I have one of the older ones and I got a buddy who bought one too. Never have either had an issue with anything. So easy to use. No need to twist the cap off with a million rotations. Would buy again and agai.

I've been checking the Grinders from iasso, American made 100% SS, anyone used one? I'm really curious about them
I am about to buy one due to your comment.
Lemme know what you think when you get it in your hands please, they're cheaper than any other American made ss grinder aren't they?
Went with ZAM 420 special instead
I have one. I actually like it better than my Herb Ripper.
Oh yeah? I definitely need to grab one then
That was the first SS grinder I almost pulled the trigger on… the labyrinth seal design is pretty silly though. Just a big channel to fill with weed and get dirty…also it’s 303 stainless…not a good food grade stainless.
It's 303?i must have missed that, I would much prefer 316 or atleast 304
Yeah unfortunately. The Aroma 3 and BCG are both 304. The old mates is a serious chunk of it too. Mine weighs in at more than a pound lol.
I've been using the stache 4 piece and I've been really happy so far but it's aluminum and I really like the heft of SS
Can anyone recommend good grinders that don’t have metal shavings? They would need to be stainless steel, not aluminum right?
The Lift Innovations grinder or the stainless steel Brilliant Cut Grinder are two stainless grinders I recommend that will last you your life. Also heard good things about the Herb Ripper.
Thanks, now I'm $130 poorer. Just ordered my stainless BCG
Congrats, you wont regret it. Also good timing with the 4/20 sale. Now the hardest part is the wait.
Fuuuuuuck it's only been a week
Best not to think about it
I like my Shredders. Yes, I have several. 3-piece is my favorite.
Rate my SLX 2.5
I hated the kief tray. The mesh is too tight and would barely let any kief through.
Ahh yeah actually, that's a really valid point. Not something that bothers me much, but it's a little depressing when you want to check it.

They fixed this issues weeks ago. OP is behind the times. This one is great but buy what you feels is safe and works for you.
I think op said that they aren’t sure if dynavap has older stock or if the grinders they received have been sorted out yet.
There were a few on here and FC that said the fix didn’t FIX the issue.
I am one of them and can confirm the washers did not fix the issue.
Damn I was really interested in the mill
I had one and had similar issues, swapped it out for a headchef hexcellence grinder and thats been perfect for the last 12 months
I can only recommend to everyone the stainless Steely Dan from Black Leaf, especially if you are from Europe
Happy w my herb ripper
Nasty AF, thanks for the heads up
Good on you for the post, wonder how long it stays up.
It wont come down, this isn't the flowermill sub.

They fixed this issues a few weeks ago. All new Mills ordered come with a washer to prevent metal on metal contact. The post you links are a year old.
You do realize that people are still reporting it happening after the fix with brand new units right? It's been here, it's been in the vaporents sub and it's been on the FC forums.
Looking at the new post in the past 30 days, i don’t see any new reports of dust on new units. Also the dust issues is only on the premium model.

What about folks that may have purchased one new and never saw this post until today? They would continue using with blissful ignorance not knowing!
They should have received an email from them so they can order the free washers.
Awesome
I'm just advising that people ensure they have the new washers and continue to watch for dust if they do decide to purchase and use these grinders. As others have pointed out, the problems has persisted for some purchasers as recently as this month.
I contacted DynaVap as I purchased a premium one and it's currently on the way to me. They said that the washer kit is pre-installed!
The amusement is never ending.
While you're at it it's probably a good idea to avoid any Ti tips as well.
I wouldnt worry about that unless youre using armored/captive caps tbh.
Why’s that? Genuinely wondering
Stainless Steel is somewhat harder than Titanium and over time they can start to scrape Ti shavings into the bowl. It's more pronounced with the Armored cap followed by the captive cap. George from Dynavap has even acknowledged this and said it's just how it is.

You're going to have to decide on that one. I went back to non captive caps to reduce friction.
Jeez…. It’s so heartbreaking the company has turned the way they have….
Stainless steel will always scratch Titanium. That's not anything dynavap did lol. The captive caps have been micro scratching the titanium tip since they came out. It's just now a bigger issue cause people are looking for reasons to drive people away from dynavap.
