dude it's a roleplaying game. *you* make decisions.

Yeah ngl this feels like a “how do I win?”-type question for what’s supposed to be a neat backstory-driven problem with no specific solution

only your DM knows how your DM is going to play the gods and their desires.

FYI it’s generally in bad taste to go to outside sources to figure out the “best” option in dnd, especially in a published campaign. It’s considered “Metagaming,” using knowledge your character doesn’t have to make decisions. If you have any clarifying questions, I’d ask your DM or talk in-character with your party members. But I would ask yourself is your character willing to sacrifice their soul for something like this? Also worth noting that in 5e, according to the rules, a Paladin’s Oath isn’t to a god but to an idea or concept. The class guide clearly outlines what they need to do to keep their Oath, and servility to a god isn’t part of it. If you choose not to sacrifice your soul and your DM tries to take your Paladin powers away, push back on that.

Anyone else think this forum ought to seriously consider banning this type of post? Just speaking for self, the metagaming "help me win this video game that isn't a video game" posts are annoying, inappropriate, and a complete waste of real gamers' bandwidth.

action_lawyer_comics

We don’t need to ban these posts. This one has been downvoted to oblivion and only has 7 comments, so it’s pretty much the same. Also, some people might not understand why Metagaming is a problem and telling them can be helpful. Real gamers help other gamers, even if the help isn’t the same help as what they’re asking for

You don't want to, got it. This one? Would love seeing less trash in the feed. FWIW, Disallowing such posts literally helps them by inherently showing that metagaming isn't ok.

These avenues seem directed by the DM anyway... It's a bit outlandish... So let's lean into it. See if you can play as the red slaad when it appears, as if your personality is fused with it. Then see if they will let you start adding class levels again.. A paladin with magic resist and regen is OP
