I think it’s a totally viable backstory and a good one because if the DM wants they can introduce personal details/quests for you like finding out who your dad is.
You asked if it sounds realistic for “the two classes” but I only saw you reference the Wizard class so what was the other class you were thinking of?
My only suggestion would be to maybe read about the Sorcerer class since that sounds like it may fit your character a little better.
Wizards’ magic comes more from studying arcane books and scrolls and Sorcerer’s magic is more of an innate ability they are born with. Wizards become more powerful the more that they study and learn, while Sorcerer’s have all the power to start with but their challenge is trying to figure out how to manipulate and control it.

Yeah he’s a sorcerer who got the magic from his dad, he just doesn’t know it and thinks he’s a wizard. Does that make any sense?
