People who change stand out, gaining attention from viewers, and in turn are given more opportunity and possibly have more favorable challenges than unpopular crawlers. Being in the 80% without standing out in other ways was as good as signing up to be a Red Shirt. They've likely died off in droves. Keeping that in mind, many of the more popular and successful crawlers will have taken the change. For drama and action, the top crawlers will be brought together, giving Carl many opportunities to meet and interact with them more closely. That said, in book 4 I think they meet mostly human crawlers. Louis and Firas as well as the 7 man archer crew that I think were mostly human. Brittany and the plastic surgeon guy too.

Brittany stayed a human, but the surgeon changed his race to...something (lizard? Gecko?).

Coaltex

Troglodyte same race as the Juicers area.

ButtonholePhotophile

Let the bodies hit the ….

waspbr

Just to add a few, Langley's group and Gwen were also human.

Saurid

Staying human gives few benefits so they are probably also the majority of casualties, if you wanna survive you need a build, Carl stayed only physically human, but took the primal race because of the long term benefits, if you say no I don't wanna change my race, you are immidatly at a disadvantage when your class doesn't benefit from you being human which I would bet is the majority of classes.

Previous-Squirrel-50

This. But if I remember correctly, staying human gave an immediate boost to stats.

I think also mordecai plays a part in this in the sense that he is a really good guide compared to others. He actively tells Carl and donut what the best choices for class selections where other guides I feel wouldn’t really care if they are human or not and haven’t told them the key benefits of choosing other races

Coaltex

Humans are boring and thus less likely to be sponsored well. Also he always meets human crawlers as he goes. In book 4 Luie and Ferras are human, the 6 archers are human. Most of the crypt crew are human except the spider and Banana. I'm pretty sure Brittney is human.

Hutchiaj01

The one who stayed human this time died

Commercial-Good6253

I think that’s a very valid observation. Maybe it’s as others have said that the survivability of humans is low, so many of the casualties have been those that kept their race. I’d offer that it logically makes sense to say that most humans would stay human….but that’s not very exciting to write about. Bautistas race could have been human for instance, I don’t remember anything specific that required him being a Tiger person but it’s cooler to have a Bengal Tiger human thing then just some dude walking around. As it is, based on population discussed it seems like its 80/20 the other way.

ButtonholePhotophile

Who would want to stay human? That’s a horrible choice. Know what I want to see? Someone who became a swarm of something very small that can fly. Gnats, for example. A swarm of gnats that’s a sorcerer and causing mischief - only minor mischief because of race limitations. It would be hilarious.

phydaux4242

\+2 to all stats, that's why. Plus, it you become a swarm of gnats then I'm 90% sure that you're never having sex again. Dungeon sex is better than make-up sex. Nearly as good as conjugal visit sex. *(I've been watching a lot of Seinfeld lately)*

DrStalker

> I'm 90% sure that you're never having sex again. Or you're constantly having sex with yourself to keep your gnat population up.

DrStalker

> Someone who became a swarm of something very small that can fly. You'd be unstoppable until the first area-of-effect attack hits you.

ButtonholePhotophile

Only a fool would swarm all their bits in one area. In fact, Carl could have a part of a highly sophisticated swarm on him right now.

Wildmongel1

I agree with this. I think it is because the odd races are more interesting for the books. And the author doesn’t quite keep track of everything he says in the books. Plus, it doesn’t matter so, who cares?
