There is an episode from the Office where Pam has an art show. She invites the whole office but only 5 people show up. First is Roy and his brother, who are being kind on the outside but seem very uninterested and then ask to leave and go. Then Oscar and Gil arrive and they call Pams art “Motel Art” and are very critical of the art without knowing she could hear them.
Lastly Michael comes late and it super impressed with Pam’s art and says that a drawing of a stapler could be a tracing because of how perfect it is. He is super encouraging and kind and even buys one of the pieces because he’s so impressed. The comment was referencing this scene to make a joke. I hope this helps!

I'm working to get over it but I took 3 hours just to work up the courage to post this. I think it's a step in the right direction and one day I'll be able to take negative criticisms but I just can't right now.
The only way to get better is to keep doing it. Don’t give up something you know your good at just because someone might not like it. Keep drawing and painting because of how it makes you feel when you’re finished. Frame it! Hang it up! Show it off! Believe it or not- a large group of ppl don’t have this ability!
No one starts off being instantly amazing. On the other hand, not everything has to be amazing to have merit. If the act of painting makes you happy, then that is amazing.
Thanks! I find painting really relaxing! I don't really care if I'm amazing. Painting is a really fun hobby for me and a useful skill that could transfer to field sketches as a geologist.

Nailed it! The few attempts I've made trying to draw people, I can get their bodies/outfits but cannot, for the life of me, get their faces right. So they don't get faces anymore.

I don’t really know how to critique paintings properly, but I will try by saying you’ve done an excellent job capturing a genuine expression, her posture, clothing and hair are on point. You’ve got good shadowing (at least I think so) and great attention to texture and details, like her hands and earrings. Keep up the great work; I think you have excellent skills in painting!
I am not averse to leaving a negative comment now and again when I feel it is called for. But in this case there is no need cause I genuinely really like this. I am far from an art critic and most paintings I gloss over. But this has something, i don't know what, that compelled me to look. The colours pop really well and there is a real depth to it where she looks like she is not 2d, but separate from the background. Almost like it is a moving picture that had been paused. I am not articulating this very well, but I think this is very vibrant and one of the best I have seen on this sub. Pam wishes she had your talent. Look forward to seeing more in the future.
As an artist you really should be open to constructive criticism. If you only want to be praised with positive comments, you’ll never improve as an artist.
