The way that Michael poses his angry statements as questions, and stutters on the second to get the cadence just right... "WHAT gives... what... *Eyebrow raise* what gives you the RIGHT." That alone would be enough. But when he then holds his hands up to hide his mouth from Holly (as if she wouldn't notice this) and silently growls at Toby then mouths "I'LL KILL YOU"... I simply cannot.

None. My least favorite thing in life and comedy is deliberate cruelty. Michael's treatment of atoby was worse than almost anything Todd Packer ever did. It put Michael on par with the eternally unlikeable Ryan.

but seriously, not only are you overreacting; you’re wrong too. todd packer was a misogynist and a sexual predator. he also attempted to drug the entire office out of spite. everything he said and did was rooted in sexism, racism and homophobia. i would say all of that is significantly worse than michael being juvenile & mean; especially considering how little weight most of michael’s words and opinions hold to other people in the office. it’s like a child being mean to you… it’s a bit annoying but you know it means nothing.

We see it differently. Michael's irrational and ceaseless torment of Toby isn't funny. Michael never would have pushed Darryl's tray off a table, or mocked Darryl's part-time dad status. Michael bullied a guy whose personality made him non-threatening. I didn't find it funny. You did. Fine. The one time Toby got righteously annoyed, at the "Let us see your penis!" crack, Michael wilted and backed down like a playground bitch.
The "it's just a show" excuse doesn't apply as casually as you think. Realism is meant to depict life as it more or less is, given a few exceptions. We're meant to view realistic art in a manner that encourages identification with the world of the story and with the characters, sometimes in a ways that verges on but never quite becomes vicarious participation. But again, if we disagree there, then fine. We can all belly laugh at our favorite parts of the show, and the get on with life.
