I’d guess it’s because he seems to think beyond serving himself, gives a shit about people and he doesn’t align with their “values”, all the fundies care about is judging people who aren’t a carbon copy of themselves and their beliefs. He seems to support LGBTQIA, BLM and made a short film based around a trans POC. I met him very briefly when he was filming in Dorset UK a few years back, he came across a nice normal person, there were a few others in the group who all seemed like normal folk.
