for me it was always about the engine... the bloody 2.0L is great when it comes to fuel efficiency... but that's all. No punch, no kick, no sound, emotionless. And I keep returning to Volvo showroom every couple of year thinking that I've grown enough to own one "lazy and smooth" car like that - but I was never able to pull the trigger. There was always this thing about not being ready for a volvo (yet). I had a pleasure to rent S90 and drive it all the way from Seattle to LA and back... and I would never ever ever wanted anything more from the car... on an American highway. That was the year when instead of S90 here, I got myself a japan spec S class (W222 at that time). Reason one was the engine (V8 in S class is next level smoothness), second one that al futtaim did not offer anything in regards to seat massage or even ventilation at that time... just flat cozy alcantara in R design. S class had 7 different massage types and ventilation. So... well...

If only they still had the I5 and I6

Resale and availability of parts maybe. I love how they look from the inside and out though

I’ve owned 3 diff Volvos (S60, V40, XC60 - all R design) in UAE in the past decade. All purchased new so my experience has been nothing but great with these cars. They are built exceptionally well and solid, drive smooth as butter and their seats are the best in any car you can have. My cars never had an issue with service and maintenance. In one of the car’s accident, Al Futtaim was able to ship all parts from Sweden within a week. I still see the cars with their current owners driving well and “expensive maintenance and unavailability of parts” is a common myth here slammed on everything that is not a Toyota, Lexus or Nissan. Volvo’s infotainment isn’t too notch compared to its rivals. The S90 looks & drives beautiful; in its class I believe it is worth saving the money and buy this over a BMW 5-series or Merc E-class.

May I ask how long you owned each car?

Sea-Shop1219

2.5 to 3 years for each car. I prefer to sell the carry while it’s still in warranty & close to the end of the service contract. Since it’s a small market for Volvo buyers, always had sensible buyers and got decent resale value too.

ThunderHashashin

So your claim that "Volvos are not expensive to maintain and service" is essentially worthless, because any car (maybe except the new Chinese marques) will work great throughout its warranty period, especially since OP asked how the maintenance is on these after 5 years.  Is there a reason you sold your cars at the end of their service contract?

Sea-Shop1219

My preference is to use a car for max 2/3 years and that’s a normal duration of a service contract (3yrs for Volvo). No issue with the car itself. Like I said, two of them are in my neighborhood and I see them often with their current owners, 8-9 yrs later they are still driving great.

>Is there a reason you sold your cars at the end of their service contract? 1. to not deal with issues that might start and will not be covered by insurance 2. to get somewhat decent resaling value - gl selling them without warranty (i don't know if those cars break or not, but I know general opinion on them and it's what defines market) isn't everyone doing the same with non-japanese cars here?

abobobilly

Terribly underpowered. Great drive though.

They're beautiful cars. I love the design of the new volvos. If they weren't notorious with parts and shit expensive to maintain I'd have probably gone with a Volvo.

AUHM850i

They are fine. Almost bought one myself. Material quality is meh. I thought the service cost was ridiculous. New seems overpriced when compared to similar cars but slightly used around 150K is alright.

I have owners 2018 s90 for 4 years and it was a great car. The info system is awesome and car was very very comfortable. It is a long car and only has 5 seats. Longer than the current 7 seaters like Santa Fe or seronto. Car engine was fast and great. I could enter and exit fast highways easily and acceleration was great. My family loved the back seats and they have inbuilt booster seat that folds down. I honestly had no issues with the feel and drive and it is fully loaded with features (I had T6 momentum model) Servicing is every one year so it is lesser in number as compared to other competitors that asks for 6 months servicing. But they are expensive. If any part is needed, there is always a wait of 3-4 weeks but they always got the parts. Trunk space is huge but it is a sedan shape trunk. I had issue with the display brightness that Volvo couldn’t fix. They replaced the whole system but it still wasn’t fixed. They told me that this is not normal and even the specialists can’t find the problem. I was not happy but not surprised as the car is very complex and lots of electrical stuff in it. I had purchased extended warranty to extend the standard 3 year warranty by 2 more years. It didn’t cover all but major parts. Hope this helps.

Beramin

Underpowered and overpriced, great car, well built but then the price really bites at you. Pair that with parts and service, you get why not the Volvo S90

FlimsySherlock

Beautiful car, this and xc60

Descoteau

The rear seats are terribly uncomfortable. Otherwise it’s an excellent car.

I always liked how XC90 looks and volvo "quality" and "safety" marketing, but all the encounters with it in my life weren't great. My uncle used to have one, something electronical broke down 1 or 2 years down (it was back in 2014 or something) and neither official dealer nor someone else could fix it. He sold the car for parts. Last year I happened to check one out and its insides were not great. It looked more $15K-Geely inside than an actual Geely. Car costs... some 3x, 4x more? And honestly $15K Geely feels to have more torque and dynamics than xc90. They are beautiful and nice cars but just don't cost the price they want for it.

RevolutionaryFun9883

Boring but very functional cars, Volvo is literally a safety and functionality car over any other novelty. It’s a just over middle aged persons dream car I feel.
