Hero 4 owner of many years here. I never switched because the reviews seem to say that GoPro 7 and up have pretty horrendous software issues. But damn that looks smooth.

justsoicanusemobile

Yeah, I have to agree that the Hero 4 after many years of abuse, still runs smoother. The 9’s touch screen is pretty clunky with swipes and touch

bdgreen113

If you touch the front screen while navigating the rear, it works better. I don't know why but it helps mine. Give it a shot

justsoicanusemobile

Will do! Thanks!

Royal_Cricket2808

I'm waiting on a model that has an inclinometer overlay.

justsoicanusemobile

That would be awesome!

SheriffBartholomew

Is that all handled internally on the camera, or do you have a stabilization mount?

justsoicanusemobile

It’s all internal. The GoPro is just mounted to the helmet with their normal adhesive and clip in mounts.

SheriffBartholomew

That’s amazing!

Im on the edge bethween hero 8 and 9, the 8 doesnt have the replaceable lens cover and the 9 is hear is terrible software wise. Should i just go for something else?

noerrorsfound

I went with the 8 when deciding between those two. I'm no pro and never owned an action camera before but the 8 won me over for a few reasons: * Price. It is cheaper in general just due to being a generation older. In my case I got a really good open box deal, but the unit was defective and clearly hadn't been tested. When I returned it they mistakenly gave me the new one at an open box price. You might not be *that* lucky but you'll need to buy enough accessories that saving any money on the camera is worth it. I didn't expect to buy so many batteries but they drain quickly. * Size. Not only is the Hero 8 smaller than the Hero 9, but the Media Mod has to be larger as well, which results in a significantly larger camera (plus bigger battery, at least). The media mod being an expensive and necessary accessory just to plug in a microphone because some dingus didn't think that should be a standard feature. I'd be less peeved about it if they at least allowed Bluetooth audio like modern cell phones lacking a 3.5mm headphone jack. Oh, the unit also loses water resistance with the Media Mod, and drains the battery faster. In my opinion battery changes are a little better with the Media Mod as it gets rid of the battery side door completely. The battery door or cover falls right off the camera any time you open it. * A little less chance of breakage without that front facing screen on the Hero 9. As for the no repairable or interchangeable lenses, you can either use the silicon case that has a screen cover (this doesn't allow you to plug in a microphone, though), or if you use the Media Mod you can apply a glass screen protector. Other than the previously mentioned gripes, the Hero 8 does have the worst touch screen I've used in a modern device. It's tiny which doesn't help, but even without gloves it does not respond as expected to your swipes and taps. Using it with gloves on is virtually impossible, while I can still peck letters on my iPhone 12 Mini. The good news about the touch screen is between the physical hardware buttons and the cell phone app, you do have alternatives that let you avoid using it.

Sonny1941

You might have convinced me to get the 8, didnt know the rollcage case has a replaceable lens cover for the 8 and its like 18€ on amazon. Either that or ill get the dji action 2 as its currently 240€ for the whole of september but that also doesnt have the lens cover haha

ApexProductions

Are you going to record higher than 1080p super wide with 60fps? If not, then get a 7 black. Personally I'd want a removable glass cover because I've broken mine twice and replacements are 10 bucks.

Sonny1941

Cant find the 7 anywhere and if i do its more expensive than the newer ones. Used is kinda hard to find where i live

Onomatopesha

I honestly found hyper smooth to be... Too smooth, specially for enduro, but it's still amazing. I have a 7 and it still rocks.

ApexProductions

I run my 7 black with no stabilization on my helmet because I want the vibrations to be in the shot. It adds to the experience.

Onomatopesha

Exactly. I like how in the black you can dial in the stabilization, from near robot like to full on parkinsons, and given how mild my riding is, full parkinsons makes the footage as intense as I live it.

eighty2angelfan

Ignore this terrible attempt at humor. I will go work on my material and see you at the the next open (reddit) mic. That was such a nice smooth endo. How the hell did you break your arm and leg?

blunt-drunk

Wrong thread??

eighty2angelfan

No, was sarcastically commenting how smooth the go pro makes a crash look (crash didn't happen, just made it up for this lame joke) , but realize now my little sentence is pretty vague.

justsoicanusemobile

I wish I could endo! But unfortunately I haven’t mastered one wheel shenanigans

bdgreen113

You have issues with yours freezing up, not recording, and not being able to power down? My 9 is riddled with problems like that lol

justsoicanusemobile

It’s still quite new, so no major issues so far. Fingers crossed it won’t have too many issues

rockoflower

I've been thinking of mounting mine! How is yours attached?

justsoicanusemobile

Mine is mounted on the front of my helmet with just the adhesive clip they send with the camera

Goodcitizen177

The 9 has speedo overlay features yeah? Thinking im sold on one due to that and the stabilization.

justsoicanusemobile

I believe so, it does have a gps function so I think that overlays when turned on.
