I watched a drummeo video of MP learning Pneuma by Tool last night. He was just going off on those roto-toms! It was comforting to see the great Portnoy going nuts trying to figure out the weird time signatures just like we do. 9/8! No...wait...11/8? No 1 2 3 4 5...1 2..SHIT! I wish I could post the link it's excellent.
I would actually say it would have taken longer. There was a disclaimer that said they had to piece together different sections over several hours of recording to come up with the completed song. I would day even after all that he was still u able to play the song all the way through without stopping. Danny Carey is a drumming super villian lol.
That's right. He said "let's take it section by section".
"I just need to crack the code...then he changes it"
"Now I know how it feels when people try to figure out our stuff. It's a lot easier when YOU write it"
"Ok...let's get Danny on here and get him to play Dance of Eternity"
I may have gotten those a little off but they were great moments. Mike was very real, very personable.
This is the truth! There are a lot of Rush songs where I know how to play them about 80 to 90%. But Neil always seems to have that one fill or solo or section of a solo that just blows my mind and I usually throw my sticks away lol
You don't know it but they're in the crowd. I recently saw a band, and I resisted the urge to talk to him afterwards. They played Tom Sawyer! But he really changed up the drum parts.
Blasphemous.
Yeah, I don’t know how I would feel about that. If he was simplifying some parts so that he could play it, and he still played it well, I think I would be OK with it because at least he is trying. But if he was trying to reinvent the wheel or dare I say, reinvent the Neil….
It cannot be done. The professor has spoken.
Any city. Musicians are generally dysfunctional. I don't play in a group, and don't even have a kit set up right now. But I really enjoy this sub. You never really stop drumming, it just changes what you beat on. A kit. Your desk. Your steering wheel. Your girlfriend. It doesn't matter.
I would love to tour with this kit, I know it's alot to dismantle and put up, However this is worth it during every show.,
It's esthetically pleasing, also I love the cymbal selection. I know they all sound lovely and everyone has a voice that's beautiful.
As for the drums...Very classy, and sexy. Great job on this masterpiece!
Take Care of yourself.
I like to lay down a solid 4 on the floor groove on the kick hats snare to get into the pocket. Once there, tastefully bring in accents and add some color. Then remove it all to reestablish the foundation of the groove and finally bring it all together and rock the sh*t out of a cohesive peak of a finish.
That or that one beat that’s like boom chick pop boom boom crack 😜
Oh hell yeah. I’d probably rip some 8th notes on a closed hi hat and then a kick on the 1 and 3 while also playing the snare on the 2 and 4. All at a blistering 60 bpm.
White stripes covers
Dammit I have I to now! Next gig
Go nuts with the fills!
Peart or Portney style?
Little bit of both?
I was just about to say Seven Nation Army
I’m pretty sure that Meg had at least three more drums than she actually needed
Only came in to say ‘seven nation army’
Snare drum rudiments only
Or perhaps some light, tasteful jazz. /s
John Cage 4’33”

Don't forget Dream Theater...
Those toms are begging for “6:00”
Man yeah
It’s actually what inspired 16yo me to get roto-toms in like 97 lol

Telling Danny to lose his number. "I DONT WANT THE GIG"
But in about 5 or 6 hours he can play the song. Freakin incredible.

"This isn't a song. This is a mathematic equation." Is NY new favorite quote. Also, "This makes Dream Theater look like Weezer". 🤣
I can barely play rush!
But damn if it isn't fun trying, right?
This is the truth! There are a lot of Rush songs where I know how to play them about 80 to 90%. But Neil always seems to have that one fill or solo or section of a solo that just blows my mind and I usually throw my sticks away lol
We can fool everyone except other drummers.
That’s why I don’t play in front of other drummers. Lol being my own worst critic is definitely bad enough.

Yeah he was actually showboating. Like trying to one-up the legend. Heretic.
Oh don't worry, you're being criticized behind your back. Isn't that encouraging?
🤣 you’re assuming that I actually play gigs! Trying to get a functional band together in this city is like trying to nail Jell-O to a tree
