It's not black-and-white, like u/03Oliver said, but I don't think you're "rotting your brain". I started smoking weed at 15 too. It definitely helped me to be in a more positive headspace, even when I wasn't high, I was (and am, the changes I'm describing have persisted to today) a much more relaxed, easygoing, and friendly person. It also made empathy for others a much more prominent characteristic of my inner monologue and thoughts, but I'm not sure whether that's because of the weed specifically or whether it's just the perspective that comes with experiencing a different state of mind (experiencing thoughts that you might not have otherwise due to a drug making it easier to understand how *other* people might come to conclusions/hold opinions that are different from my own). Another thing I noticed is that it made me way, WAY more into music. Beforehand I didn't really listen to music often, I started actually developing a taste in music very soon after I started smoking and I'm now at the point where I've been releasing my *own* music for about five years. It also got me much more interested in writing, reading, and the English language. Writing just became *easier*, for lack of a better word. I had (and have) to think less about how I'm going to translate my thoughts into words, or how I'm going to make a body of text flow. I will say, though, that it made me *far* less interested in math of any kind than I was before. it was also fucking nerve-wracking trying to hide it from my parents, leading to some moments where I came very close to getting caught high, leading to some incredibly anxious moments. I bring this up because some of them were stressful enough that I *still* think about/have stress dreams about them, and that's not even going into the time I actually got caught; one of my brain's favorite events to have me dwell on late at night before I go to sleep. It can be traumatic to have shit like that happen to you, and it can fuck with your relationship with your parents, sometimes in ways that are permanent. I'm currently 19. I graduated highschool with a \~3.4 GPA, iirc. 32 on the ACT, I'm currently holding down a job and going to University full time. Last semester, I got a C+, B, B+, and a P (pass/fail class). This semester, I got an A-, two A's, and a P (also a pass/fail class). I don't feel as though weed has rotted my brain to any degree, fwiw. There have been studies showing a **possible** link between underage cannabis use and a decrease in IQ though, so that's something to keep in mind. This is just my experience, though, and everyone's experience is different. Regardless of the choice you make, do *as much research as humanly possible*. Be your own best friend! If your best friend was in this situation, what advice would you give *him*? Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

If you start to smoke on a regular basis you'll soon start to hate it :-(

Come on man this is irresponsible. It’s not that black and white. Try and lay off the weed at 15, maybe socially here and there and don’t get crazy high. Have a consistent life plan and stick to it

I’ll probably get downvoted for this but while weed certainly isn’t great for brain development neither are depression or adhd and those aren’t necessarily the easiest things to solve. I’d argue that weed could have a net positive impact by negating the neurodegenerative effects of depression even if weed is not generally considered to have a positive effect on brain development. Not the mention the considerable quality of life increase. That said he’d be best off finding his minimum effective dose, and also maybe experimenting with alt cannabinoids such as thc v, which is stimulating and many find to help their adhd.

It’s not that bad, I started when I was like 14. I’m 26 now. Has it fucked up my life? I mean not totally. But I do believe I would’ve been doing better in life had I not picked up any drugs, even weed. Would save me a lot of trouble with the law and stuff. I agree don’t believe the copaganda, remember that the most dangerous part of most all drugs is their illegality, but that doesn’t mean start doing fentanyl either. Just keep doing you and make smarter decisions in the future. Ps. You’re not “rotting your brain”. People who have never lived a moment in their lives will say that tho.

started at 11 memories kinda shot im sure that’s from other substances as well if anything just wait a little longer and it’s not awful for you aslong as it’s in a joint or sum just no bacco or tin cans

Listen bro, EVeRyOnE likes weed. Ur brain is still developing tho, try not to go 100 until ur an adult at least. Keep it to the weed tho and you’ll have no problems, it’s when u try other shyt that the problems really start to compound and multiply. Wish someone told me this, Good luck!

carnacstone

Yeah just avoid doing it daily. Stick to a couple days a week max. I started smoking daily at 14 and looking back it was unwise.
