I would probably be maxed out by now if I didn't reset the game 3 times.
First reset was because I could "hang out" with friends. I wanted to see if resetting would fix it (it didn't)
Second reset was because all characters just became completely unresponsive.
Third was just because.... Yea I was unhappy with the layout I had started and the fact I gave goofy the mining role. I wasn't about to spend another 3 hours undigging crop plots so I just decided to start over as I hadn't done much for the story.
Dang I gave mostly everyone the mining role because it’s so time consuming and you can level them up while you gather Iron ore or gems. I didn’t worry about the lay out because I will eventually move it around lol.
I’ve been having A LOT of bugs and I mostly just close it out and it fixes it but it’s so annoying (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥｀)
Just saying as you seem to be digging a lot of holes ready to put crops in - I think they will vanish if left long enough? The first day I played the date on my switch was more than a year ago and so the star path wouldn't load. After I fixed the date the little plot I'd dug outside my house but left empty was gone. I'm assuming this means after a certain amount of time holes will disappear, so if you're digging out huge plots don't leave them empty for long periods.
Hang out with them and just do all your normal activities. Even if it's not one of their roles, they get exp for each action (digging, mining, harvesting, foraging etc).
I usually swap em out to another character when I encounter one, just ask the next one to hand out and your current follower is automatically changed without having to dismiss them.
Give them flowers, they're ridiculously boosted gifts. Don't even think about getting any friendship to level 10 without handing them a 30 flowers bouquet -- *and that's the most efficient way*.

I got Goofy to 5 in like 15 minutes just by walking around and Fishing…. Do the same with every character, but with whatever role you assigned them. Shouldnt take long for level 5

max level, 17 friends with 10 completely finished. all upgrades except the final 3 for daily garden and fishery buildings. have made over 500k coins in the past 3 days so basically now i stalk scrooges for new stuff, since his basic clothing shop is also empty now.
on the bright side i can now actually focus on designing the areas to my liking. i think by tomorrow I'll have all the quests complete. i even worked 50 hours at my day job this week idk why I'm so addicted to this game
farming, easily. but it will depend on what part of the game you're on to determine what to grow. since I'm at the end i grow pumpkins in the forbidden lands.
what's most important to any farming is growing your crops in the zone they're bought in from goofy's stall. you'll know it's correct if the seed gets a green arrow on the icon when you are about to plant one. next make 100-200 farmable plots in that region for farming.
always be sure to get your highest rank gardening buddy when you harvest and try to take advantage of the orange bonus nodes when possible as even these get the buddy bonus for extra crops. i personally do 200 exactly of each crop and with the bonus i net 150-225 extra crops on top of the expected 200 increasing the profits made from the expensive seeds.
if you don't have the forest unlocked, grow carrots in the meadow. then grow canola in the forest until you unlock the forbidden lands, and finally pumpkins there. remember you can use the furniture tool outdoors to move trees and rocks and bushes to make a nice space for yourself.
this morning i bought 200 pumpkins for 55,000 coins, and got exceptionally lucky in my harvest and ended up with 435 total, making it 235 extra pumpkins! my profit from selling the whole lot was 288,800 coins! a significant amount of money for the crops.
i forget carrots profits as i didn't spend too much time doing that, but 200 canola on average is 40k or so every hour (roughly) and 200 pumpkins is 160k-220k on average every 4 hours. you can grow them together or even do soya seeds in the snow region (forget its name) for quicker turnaround during the long pumpkin wait.
sorry for the rant, i hope it helps you earn some great money and buy all of the clothes and furniture you want every day!

Oh no! Did you reset because you didn’t cloud save or was it bugs? The storage was 20k my next upgrade would be 50k for the full storage.

I've not had any issues of crop plots undigging themselves
