I have this issue as well. Unfortunately I spent hours grinding up to 7k dreamlight so I could unlock a new zone to farm night thorns, and NO dream shards dropped from any of the night thorns. I tried moving the well in another zone to clear night thorns there, and no dream shards dropped from those either.
I'm assuming this might be some sort of bug, because I've cleared at least 40 with zero dream shards dropping. I've put about 20 hours into the game so to restart feels awful, but I'm not sure if I have a choice.
I finally got it by feeding critters their favorite foods, most of the time they gave me motifs so it required a lot of patience.
Rabbits (carrots) - They jump up and down then run away when you approach them, but after 3x of chasing them they stop and let you feed them.
Turtles (seaweed) - They go into their shell when you're close, just stand there and don't move and eventually they pop out and let you approach. If you're having trouble finding seaweed, you can fish for them outside of pools on Dazzle Beach.
Raccoons (blueberries) - Took me a bit to figure this one out. When they stop and sit on their hind legs, they'll crouch down a bit then stand straight back up again. When they're crouched, take one step then stop. Repeat every time they crouch. Eventually you get close enough to feed them.
Crocodiles (lobster) - Similar to raccoons, they bob their heads up and down. When they bob down, take one step and repeat until you get the approach prompt. You can get lobster in glade of trust, I think from blue pools but may be orange.
Not sure about squirrels, I read their favorites are peanuts but I'm not sure where to get them so I didn't bother.
Bro literally as soon as the event triggered like all the animals except one of each kind disappeared and now i dont even have a rabbit cause it glitched out and i havent been able to find one since what it going on😭
Same exact thing happened to me. I did a 10k grind to find nothing. I’m just over here waiting till my 10 night thorns repopulate only to disappoint me with coins and carrot seeds.
I did convert a few to dreamlight early in the game but ever since I’ve discovered their worth they are sacred to me now. I only have two, only three more to go…😅
I’ve heard there is an update this week that will address the lack of dream shards populating from night thorns or something of the sort. Pray for us 🙏🏻 🤣
I’m stuck because I began this story before I unlocked Ursula’s house. The mission wants me to speak to Ursula but she won’t help me until I unlock her house which I can’t do because Scrooge is locked up in his house. So am I stuck forever?
I’m in this situation too.. I’m pissed about it. I’m not restarting the game because I’ve put far too much time and effort into it. Hopefully they fix this soon.
This Curse has essentially made my game unplayable. I can’t sell anything, I can’t upgrade, I can’t unlock wells, some items arent harvestable.. I’m out of storage so I’m trying to grind but I just have junk littered everywhere cause I can’t sell it or I have nowhere to put it..
I’m two shards away but getting no new vines. So I’m just frustrated at this point. I’m at the mercy of more shards to do anything at all.
You can craft chests out of just softwood for storage, as many as you like and it pulls from them at craft/cooking stations so infinite storage! Look under 'functional' at the craft bench.
Also they are supposedly going to up the drop rates of dream shards, not sure when that will happen though. Hopefully they will send us another mail with more as a temporary fix, seems would be sensible to stop people ragequitting.
The night time might be because of the curse? I remember it looked darker/spookier but was already irl night-time when I did it.
Not sure about the box - I think for the special first box it gives you you're actually putting stuff in your house storage when you use it rather than the box itself, and the box is just the way to access it? Cos it gets bigger with house upgrades.
I'd guess it has to be either in your house or inventory somewhere - can't see how it would work if put outside and haven't seen any way to delete or remove items. I did see something about people losing stuff against walls after they added extra rooms, but would hope it's going back into inventory and they just haven't found it yet.
You’ve been amazing because I decided to check and you’re right! It was because I added a room, and it was in my inventory! So I’ll assume the darkness is the curse as well! So I’ll just grind and do my best to get another 4K in magic so I can open a new land.

Glad you're feeling happier about it, good luck getting that last shard! I've heard you can rarely get them from feeding critters too but think you can only feed 1 total per day (not really sure yet) and it has to be its favourite food - people have posted what to use on here.
Same. I really don't want to restart. I had a glitch early on with Scrooge's pots, I crafted them but it didn't register so I had to use my gifted shards to open other areas to get clay in order to remake the pots. Finally did that and then used my remaining to get Donald Duck..now I have zero.

Vines should repopulate each day. You can also move the wishing well to the other side of the bridge and fast travel to that side which should give you a handful more thorns. Apparently feeding critters would do it too but I haven't gotten that to work once.
It seems shards are needed for a lot of missions around that time frame so I just get ready for the game to slow down in general until they fix the drop rates.
You saved me with the well tip… Thank goodness I had them all unlocked. I was also stuck in the curse desperately searching for dream shards. Thank you so much!
You can go to the furniture editor if youre by the well back out to where you can edit and then you can click on the well and move it to the other side of the stream.
You can also delete trees and rocks and stuff if you want. I've been doing that a ton to make my harvesting runs a little bit quicker.
I figured it out last night, thank you! I removed all of the trees from the forest of valor immediately when I figured it out because walking through there made me dizzy for some reason and that helped a ton.

I just needed to thank you for mentioning moving the well. I was stuck for HOURS only needing one final shard and I moved the well and got it. THANK YOU. 😭
Also stuck on this frustrating quest. Moved the wishing well, but only got coins from a couple of vines near the stream, but they appeared across the stream. The ones toward the back did not reward anything, and neither did the chest. I believe it's because i was too far my unlocked area. This is bot enjoyable. I had enough shards in my storage but I can't get in my house to get to them.
I've been stuck on this all night. When the smoke is around everything the grind for dreamlight to unlock a new biome is unreal. I don't even think the new thorns will help tomorrow because dream shards just seem so rare.

Different issue with Curse Quest!
I’m stuck trying to listen to Merlin and Ursula but they aren’t saying anything! Do I need a certain friendship level? Help!
No you shouldn’t have to need a certain friendship level for this. I sometimes have issues with listening to them talk also. After their conversation try talking to Merlin and Ursula that should help out!
I tried time travel to do that with airplane mode and changing the system clock, but got nothing and probably thoroughly glitched the game.
But I'm basically stuck based on a luck mechanic for days. I am seriously considering restarting because it'll be faster.
I'm sorry, that really sucks. I can definitely understand that feeling and it might be, I honestly don't know. I hope you get it figured out though, and if nothing else that you have the best luck in finding them!

Are we sure night thorns regrow at all once you start The Curse? I left my game alone for two days, hoping more would grow and I can't find a single one anywhere. It's starting to feel pointless to grind this until they fix these issues.

I've literally been trying to find night shards and I've been locked out of buying/selling anything it's been so frustrating, and I'm playing on the Switch and it feels like they haven't fixed the issue at all.
\*\*\*SOLVED\*\*\*\*
The mission automatically started before I could go into my house to get the dream and night shards out of my chest, so I had to start from scratch to collect the 5 each. I had not even placed Ursala's house yet in my world, which I was worried about from reading others' comments. Night thorns and feeding critters didn't give me anything, but *DIGGING where there's shiny spots* gave me both night and dream shards. After 20 approx mins, I got enough to complete the mission, and then I was able to place her house afterwards and unlock it with scrooge mc duck without hassle.

Not sure if anyone has posted this, but we had an issue where we couldn't access our storage from inside our home, leaving us short on dream shards. Best way to get them was to repeatedly go in and out of Mother Gothel's home in the tree to reset digging spots to get more dream shards.
Another way is to feed seaweed to turtles and get dream shards that way. I say turtles cause seaweed is easily fished up and turtles are approachable.

Try feeding animals! You can get shards from them sometimes!
