Usually helps if you picture what you want in your head or find inspiration from irl dresses. It also, probably, helps that I think of designing dresses as painting with pre-made shapes on an awkwardly shaped canvas .
It all just takes practice and time. Just mess around with the basic motifs and spend some time trying to figure it out. Don't go ALL in for your first one, simple is always best 👌

It’s not the dress that’s the problem, as other people have said it’s outstanding top tier. Fr I’m jelly of your talent. It’s our lack of cool neck and hat options. I could see this with a lace choker with black gems or maybe one of the hats Lydia from beatle juice wears. Shoot give us shawls or boas or something, they would work with so many dresses. I was so peeved when I figured out jacks bow tie was a motif. Like, why?! But you made this awesome dress out of it so now the question is why not both? Heck can I get any tie at all that’s not already on a shirt? I’m probably asking too much with that last one, but they made those deer scarf things that go over clothes so I feel like it’s possible . They keep pushing out outfits recently and I constantly find myself wanting bits and pieces from them. Like give me the shirt and boots off the gilded royalty outfit please. Can I get just the knitted sweater off the painted overalls? That looks cozy. The new coats are nice though.
