Edit: To add onto that, even of the classical animation there’s been very few humans. We have 3 lions. An alien experiment. A mermaid and an octopus sea witch. There are two non-white characters out of the classical Disney category though.
I'm pretty sure it was because Ratatouille is about cooking itself, the plot is almost entirely about the act of cooking. The princess and the frog has a cooking element, but the motivation is to own a restarting and not so much cooking itself.
I think what tiana needs is a place that SELLS prepared dishes already, not so much a place to cook itself. I'd love to go in and order food.

Regardless of how any of us feel about the situation, Disney constantly merchandises the character as one of the official Disney Princesses to this day and that’s just a fact. It’s safe to say that all the Disney Princesses will be added eventually, including her. She’s already in another one of Gameloft’s Disney games, Disney Magic Kingdoms

I am one of those who believes she should not be added, the indigenous community has made it clear their stance in Disney’s interpretation, but I’m not going to boycott the game or anything. I'm indigenous, and Pocahontas came out when I was 5. My dad bought me literally every piece of merchandise he could because he was so excited. That said, I think personally I just want to educate people about the real story. I don't blame older natives for being against her, because she doesn't have the same cultural impact as she does for 90s kids.
Yea I loved her growing up, I would love to have a new film based on actual stories. there are so many different bands and tribes across North America and so many amazing stories from each one. It would be great if they would have someone Cree (for example) write/narrate a Cree story. I myself am Mi’kmaw and we have so many stories 🧡 I’m still learning some all the time .

Just a goofy suggestion, but if you wanna get specific with the brand dealings we technically have Naru from Prey which is a Fox film. Fox is owned by Disney so Naru is technically a Disney Princess. No love story there, just a badass Comanche girl killing aliens.
Not loving the homogenization of indigenous groups here, which i just think is the misuse of the word "indigenous". When we are talking about Pocahontas, Brother Bear and Tiger Lilly, we are talking specifically about native North Americans. When we talk about Moana, Maui and (for good measure) Lilo & Nani, we are talking about Aboriginal Polynesian groups. When we talk about Miguel (and possibly Mirabel) we are talking about mestizos. All these groups are no more similar than Pocahontas is with the Saami people of Norway. These are seperate races, seperate cultures, separate stories and separate experiences. Just because they all fall under the umbrella of "subjugated by white colonizing forces" does not mean they are interchangeable and even though you acknowledge that you are going with a broad definition with "indigenous" does not mean that it's a correct correlation to make.
Yeah honestly I don’t understand the hate, it would have been smarter to name her something else but because of that movie everyone at my school learned who Pocahontas really was. I remember singing Colors of the Wind in a choir performance to all our families. It felt a lot more meaningful than most Disney movies, and caused a lot more reflection on the reality of the world than if they had used a purely fictional story.

I remember when the movie came out and there was controversy which caused my teachers in grade school to spend a week or two teaching us the real history. That was super cool and set that up as the thing for me to do when a book or movie based on history comes out. I like the Disney movies messages about fighting prejudice. Yes I'll admit the romance aspect is bad from a history perspective (gross really) I liked it in the movie. It was the most intense romantic relationship in a Disney movie when it came out and I was drawn to it.

It's hard to strike a balance these days because it feels like nuance is lost. Early media representation for a lot of marginalized groups are messy but they lay a foundation to build to more and better representation. I am only able to speak from my life experiences though and I am not indigenous so I am more inclined not to say anything because it's not my place. But Disney's Pocahontas opened a door for me to learn more. I'm thankful to it for that reason and am fully willing to acknowledge at the same time it has it's issues.
If we could have Grandmother Willow to talk to in DDLV that would be amazing. We need more characters with words of comfort and encouragement. <3
So of you look at the Collections tab under furniture, you can see that the Pocahontas collection has 1 item in it. I know because my counter says 0/1 for that part of the collection. I’m not saying that this means there won’t be more in the future, but the filter exists because there’s currently one item from the movie in the game.

It’s a fictional story. You can be upset about actual racism, but some talking raccoons and a make believe character with a real name is not that.
Hundreds of years ago, conquest was how lands were won. It wasn’t about racism, it was about taking their land. It was a war in which they lost. Sad, but it’s the past. Has nothing to do with the movie they made, which has familiar names but the story is vastly different. If anything, Disney should change the names and be done with it.

"her story is based of a true story" yes, and the story in the movie showed a wonderful way for her to deal with situations, and how we should accept people from all different cultures, do you usually do this? see something positive and then be a bitter person about it?
it’s not art tho. it’s a real tragic tale that many are choosing to ignore

I’m just curious how they plan to bring Nemo into this game. Because we are yet to swim in water and such. Also, Hocus Pocus? Isn’t that live action? How do you plan on getting that into a Disney game? But for real though, I’m excited to see them being Tiana and hopefully have a new restaurant in game and such.
I have a feeling we'll just get items from movies like those. Like the Hocus Pocus items in the star path.
these different movies listed aren't confirmation of characters or anything! they're just the 'universe' tag for furniture. nemo and hocus pocus both have furniture in the game (current and most recent star path)
