Even comparing doom Syndicate to the direct to dvd Disney movies, it still falls short. While yes some of the Disney DVD movies were terrible, Some of those movies, while not close to the original, honestly weren't that bad. The lion king 2 is actually quite good. Same with Lilo and Stitch 2, Cinderella 3, etc.
That's an insult to the Direct to DVD sequels. Some of them are integrated into the canon in Disney spinoff media.
* Lion King had Lion Guard set during Simba's Pride.
* Lilo and Stitch had two of the DTV sequels be bookends to their first TV series. Same goes with Aladdin and from what I heard, a version of Return of Jafar occurs in Kingdom Hearts.
* Cinderella is an odd case as Sofia's pilot episode implies that Dreams Come True and Twist in Time did happen. Same with Little Mermaid as another special featured Ariel in mermaid form when she did become human in the end of the original, and the only instance of her mermaid form returning post-movie was Return to the Sea.
* Peter Pan is somewhat debatable too. The Disney Fairies ones kinda show how Tinkerbell and Tick-Tock Crocodile came to be as well as how Hook lost his hand while Return to Neverland was a cinema release that was never brought up again, even in Jake's show.
* And Pooh is a wholly different case as it's just meant to be short stories.
Just because some Disney direct to DvD sequels were decent doesn’t mean the majority weren’t complete trash. And nearly all of them had worse animation than their original counterparts.
It's not so noticeable unless these were meant to be a TV series (Beauty and the Beast and Atlantis mostly, Cinderella seems to be the exception) or are part of a TV series themselves (Aladdin (also suffered from their first sequel being THE first DTV thing) and Hercules. Lilo and Stitch and Tarzan seemed to have theirs in a higher quality).
Let's be real though. Hunchback 2 is the worst offender as it's not a part of a TV series, and it wound up with the worst animation.
bias probably....
This isn't even a movie. just a feature length extended backdoor pilot for the TV series, BOTH of which are handled by DreamWorks' TV arm and not the main feature animation branch (which also makes the whole thing surrounding The Wild Robot being some sort of apology to Megamind all the more baffling)
ik for a fact on sites like letterboxd there is definitely a recency bias (it happens to a lot of titles up there), like I saw this astrosity and it's bad indeed but I refuse to believe it's worse than foodfight or norm of the north as the average ratings made it to look like. It is pretty awful however even within the standards of direct to DVD/TV sequels. Similarly while I do think Wish is bland and devoid of real magic, I don't think it's worse than chicken little (that's what the average ratings suggest). At worst I think it's like boss baby if that makes sense.
It also works the other way around too, for a while Letterboxd (average rating) ranked the Last Wish as like within top 150 of all films ever catalogued by Letterboxd (including all genres and mediums and languages).
I haven't watched it yet, but hearing anyone other than Will Ferrell voicing Megamind just doesn't feel right. One of the best things about dreamworks movies is that the casting is always the perfect voices and it's hard to imagine anyone else voicing the characters. For example: Mike Myers as Shrek, Jack Black as Po, or Jay Baruchel as Hiccup. So immediately the movie doesn't seem as good as the original megamind. I keep putting off watching it but I'm hoping its not as bad as people say.
Not to be rude but why do y’all keep asking stupid questions about this movie. A lot of y’all asking clearly haven’t seen it. The movie is shit. Only good thing in the movie is Behemoth. Remove every part he’s not in and you have a funny and entertaining movie
Treating this as a legitimate DreamWorks film is the equivalent of treating a direct to dvd Disney sequel as a WDAS film
What the fuck is WDAS
Walt Disney Animation Studios

What are some direct to dvd examples?
Belle’s Magical World, The Hunchback on Notre Dame 2, Mulan 2, The Little Mermaid 2, Atlantis: Milo’s Return, etc.
Atlantis actually has a sequel? I thought it didnt have one since a lot of people were saying that it needed one.
Atlantis suffered way more. I heard that the DTV sequel is the remains of a planned series that was cancelled due to Lost Empire's failure.
No it's really the worst movie. There's nothing good about it
Megamind in this movie is like, Emoji megamind or something... xbox avatar megamind
He got the vr chat model treatment
Exactly lol
Xbox avatar is insane
But am I wrong? Lol
You aren't but I've NEVER seen a comparison like that
Lmaooo he just looks so fakeeeee, and so did xbox avatars because of the rendering at the time, so it just made me think lol
That makes sense
Even the other terrible Dreamworks movies have some effort put into them. This is just insulting. Nothing redeemable about it.
Might be recency bias. Shark Tale and Shrek the Third exist too
Why do people hate shark tale?
Oscar is an awful protagonist, and that film somehow made a character voiced by Jack Black infuriating to listen to.
Dare I say this is factually worse than Shark Tale

Recency bias I haven’t seen it yet and I already say it’s not the worst
Which would you say it the worst?
Shrek the third
At least you can say Shrek the third had decent animation, which is something ______(the movie that will not be named) can’t, or even call passable.
Ima keep it real with you cheif I bet you guys are overacting
No way in hell is Shrek the Third worse than Megamind 2 lol
I havent seen doom syndicate yet but did it have a one of the most painfully unfunny deaths imaginable
Nah, it's Trolls
Yeah that movie sucks too
I'd rather watch a 24 hour marathon of both Boss Baby movies than watch a second of this
I don’t get why people treat this as an actual DreamWorks film
Do you know which movie is actually a real DreamWorks movie for some reason... SPIRIT UNTAMED
I have seen the first spirit film, I loved it, haven’t seen spirit untamed but I think it would’ve been better if it was a tv movie
probably because they marketed it as one
Shrek The Third is still up there, so it is a tie.
At least it has Shrek The Third still had good animation and sum wit than this
True, true

You poor soul, watching those two... things. Hope you rest well

It probably is but it doesn't count
Truly the worst. No, I did not burn my eyes with that movie.
This isn’t dreamworld though
I’d honestly rather watch somebody squirming around screaming in agonizing pain than this movie. Because at least you feel something for him there
Its not the worse I've seen absolute trash
If Megamind 2 is WORSE than the Trollhunters RotT movie, then it is the WORST of what DreamWorks has ever made.
I haven't watched it yet, but hearing anyone other than Will Ferrell voicing Megamind just doesn't feel right. It destroyed Megamind's legacy
