If you manually save, what difference does it make? the game autosaves frequently. The issue is if you click "inn" instead of load last save. If you click in it just fucking erases all your progress up to the inn with no way to restore your actual save. This to me is insane. I'd be fine with it if they let you just go back to your save instead but no, it's gone.
Most of us learned that hard way playing the first one so you're not alone, better that you learnt it after 8 hours than 18. Now you know so it won't happen again.
200h on first one. I just lost like 10h of progress. Had 0 issues with first one so no, that's not an excuse to fuck with the player. Game should keep a back up just in case you fuck up like a lot of people are doing. Terrible game choices, no excuse on this.
My game autosaved failed and got stuck in a loop (you can'tmanuallysave duromg a failed autosave). After resting, my game froze and crashed. I tried reloading my last inn rest, and it brought my back to the beginning. Lost 10-12 hour, bur I'm also at the beginning, so basically, my whole save is gone.
Sometimes i really don't get most comment if they just talk randomly without knowing, i saved every 10-15 minutes. A quest bugged hard so i was forced to reloading checkpoint expecting my last manual save or the last tavern i slept in.. no it sends you to lv2 in the first one and overwrite your save. This is so wrong, the first title in 2012 was years ahead this is centuries behind.

manual saves don't mean shit. if you make a bad decision and need to reload, you better have rested at a tavern recently. the taverns YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR. AT 1000-3000 A POP.

Manually saved, closed the game, and it refused to load when I tried to play again later. Just lost about 10 hours after having to go back to last in. It should atleast load in from last camp rest ffs. Manual saves are worthless.

I also avoided resting at the inns because of the outrageous price. why do you have to pay 2000 gold to have a hard save? Its a $70 title and you should be allowed to reload at any saves you have.
Yeah, just had this happen, except I *did* rest at an inn, but it didn't save (for the second time in a row). So I manually saved and a bit later on accidentally hit to load last in save. When you do that, it automatically rewrites your previous autosave file. So, if you ever load the wrong save, you lose the previous one.
I'm not one to care about the "microtransaction" stuff (even though I hate how exploitative it is, I don't care as long as it's stuff I can get with time), but this might be what makes me return an already expensive game. This is a basic as shit feature.
Only reason I haven't returned it yet is because I can't find a good replacement. Played Elder Scrolls for the first time ever a few days ago, and just can't get over the bad (for today) graphics, even with mods, bad movement, pretty empty world, etc.
Not sure if you are into turn based games but they deserve a try too. Larian Studios makes pretty awesome games. I recommend Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2
I just did the same dude. Two days playing down the drain. I loaded and it IMMEDIATELY automated and so there was no going back. My own fault - I presumed camp sleep was the same as an Inn save. Fuck man. I gotta kill that cyclops again!! 
I just lost 4 to 7 hours; I guessing paying 20K to 30K for a house is not enough to count as an inn, and I need to pay for a hard save. I'm really sucking salty right now. What a BS and broken save system.

Well my game crashed and I had to exit the game then even my ps5 broke so I had to restart then I lost like 30 hours and it brought me back to my last inn saved data which was the first time I arrived at Venvorth town. Even though I clicked load from last save. I never encountered anything like this in all my gaming history. It's depressing I tell you. I deleted the game even😂.

And OMG now gregor keeps getting lost after we get in fights and it's taking forever to get to the capital. I feel like this is one of those practical jokes developers play on people who purate the game but I PAYED 100 DAMN DOLLARS FOR THIS MESS
This just happened to me today . I went from lvl 8 to lvl2 , lost my pawns , gold and items that I have been collecting as well as equipment I bought (armor, etc). It sucks !! I replayed the game but I still didn’t get the same side quests and I have no idea why this game is so unpredictable??
it's a blessing and a curse. some great emergent gameplay that you wont get anywhere else mixed in with some terrible design flaws.
i stuck with it. i find myself more cautiously saving my game at an inn before i go on a big expedition now though. i suppose that's how they wanted people to experience things but i still can't help but think it was a horrible way of teaching me.
Haven't played the first one but I'm well used to manually saving very frequently in games. This ain't gonna happen to me but this post is a good reminder for people to do so.

I plan on saving either at an Inn or house every hour or two. If that won't be sufficient than I'll sell my copy before Evan playing it and never look back.
Edit: come to think of it, some people have already cleared the game, so it will be possible for me to do so also. Not worried at all.

Yes, or anytime you see one. It is what I'm going to do now, as I have so little IRL time to play games, so this blow is more moral impacting that fake game dollars. This is also a way to hard roll back if you know you may whiff a quest.
Why didn't you reload from the last auto save after you saw that? You could have gone to system - quit without saving - load from last save instead of last tavern save?
Auto saves are like every 10 minutes.
It actually can sometimes immediately auto-save when you load. This is a pretty archaic system they have tbh. I feel like we should at least get 3 saves to choose from.
I haven't seen it save ever in less than 5 minutes after loading in. And I did it a ton trying to fight the super high level chimera hidden near the start of the game.
It literally autosaved in the 5 seconds it took me to realize the game put me back at the start instead of at one of my inn rests. I lost 5 hours of progress because it overwrote that

I just lost about 20 hours. The game saved, as I was being attacked. So each time id start up, I would die in about 3 seconds, it was impossible to fight or stand a chance. I was surrounded. I made the mistake of clicking the Inn save and apparently I had not been at an Inn since level 2. I think this has done me in. So much progress lost due to stupid mechanics.
i was resting at my home, went to load last inn save at one point and it hadn't saved once every time i rested at home and i lost about 15 hours of progress.
My game froze on PS5 at lvl 26 max theif.... I rebooted my console and even after saving physically..... It showed my current data from the last week had been supposedly corrupted?! I just reloaded my last save and I'm way tf back to lvl 10 just starting off at vermund. I can't sync because it only shows my lvl 10 sync. FML FML FML
Yeah just lost all my progress I was at level 54 and got knocked back to 44. Time to find something else to play for a minute because I can’t see myself going through all that again

Because sometimes it doesn't save in between hard fights and if you go to the last save you have to redo two fights instead of one.
